Story of the Year

I have been an avid concert goer since I was 12, I am now 27. I have traveled across the country for music festivals, seen countless shows of all sizes, and there are a only a handful that could even compare to the experience you get at a Story of the Year show. So first off, yes they have written a number of amazing albums over the years, but when you see them perform live it takes you to a whole other level of satisfaction. Every one of these guys is an extremely talented musician, But the way they jam together is like watching chemistry happen. Josh is probably one of the most underrated and humble musicians, He is on the same level as Danny Carey , Joey Jordison, and Mike Portnoy and it is such a treat to watch him play. Ryan has a hilarious sense of humor but is a straight up killer on his guitar, He is the result of raw talent that was tempered and shaped with dedication and passion over many years to forge the the powerhouse guitar legend we know and love today. Phil, is an artist I feel like he is misunderstood and has the potential to create masterful art on many levels. Of course he is a core member of story, a freakishly gifted songwriter, and a very dedicated pillar of the st.louis community, but he is just a good guy who is super cool and deserves more respect for everything he does and puts up with. It would be nice if the audience wouldn't talk and shout over him when he is speaking to the crowd, its just not cool. Well I think thats everybody important in the band......of course Im yanking your nipple chain, each of these guys are professional, highly skilled musicians, But what would story be without Dan Marsala. This Charismatic frontman captivates fans not only with amazing vocals, but his skill on the guitar (TFOAD) and drums (when he filled in for J venus), but he is very interactive with the audience, just a natural people person and was born to be a frontman. allot of bands fade in and out throughout the years, but for a frontman to keep the crowd involved, amped up and on the edge with excitement like he does, its no surprise how long and successful their success and fan base has remained solid even through their inactive years, . he is a hardcore St.louisian that has allot of pride in his hometown, Dan is not only one of the most talented people you may ever get to meet, while still one of the coolest, down to earth guys you could ever meet. When you are at a story show it is very easy to get out of touch with reality. The environment at their shows are so surreal and there is almost a static feeling of excitement, awe, and community. There is a reason why the people that go to story shows end up doing so every time they get a chance with nothing but the highest anticipation . It is and experience that is amazing to share with the ones you love, that is so much more than just a concert..

The Pageant is an awesome concert venue. As minor as it may seem, their air conditioning system is unrivaled, keeping the entire venue cool during the most energetic of concerts. That being said, the Struts put on a very energetic, amazing show. Luke Phillips brings a fresh taste to rock, reminiscent of Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson. While many in the audience had come for the last act, Story of the Year, Luke's audience interaction and captivating showmanship made fans out of everyone there.

Story of the Year, Greek Fire,and the Fuck Off and Dies out on an amazing show. Every single band member perform with suck passion and personality. I can't wait for the next show!

This was an awesome concert! I loved hearing some of the smaller local bands too. Several of them were "surprisingly" good, and I'm not even much of a fan of too much metal-ish rock. SOTY had fun stage presence too, and seemed to be glad to be back in their hometown. It was fun to actually see people from 105.7!

The F*** off and dies were opened up and were pretty good, but the songs were just kind of silly and nothing really notable. Greek Fire was up next, and they started the show. Singing their hits as well as some covers was great because the entire crowd know them so it was fun to sing along. Then Story Of the Year came on, and from the second the first drum hit, the crowd ceased being a crowd and turned into a turbulent tide moshing and moving together in unison. I thought for sure I was going to die multiple times during the night, but somehow I made it out alive XD. The vibe was unreal though! You genuinely get the sense that they are having as much fun on stage as you are off stage and it adds to this really warm welcoming feeling. When they played their hit songs like anthem of our dying day, and razor blades the vibe was just pure happiness from the crowd. I saw SOTY last year, and with all the bands I have seen since then, they are still the best I have ever seen live! Everyone should go to an STL Story Of The Year show at least once in their lives just to experience what it's like. It's unforgetable! Also my friend got a drum stick thrown to him that we got signed :)

Honestly I wasn't expecting much, have been a fan since the 90's. But never seen them live figured it would be an average at best show. But it was probably one of the top five live performances I have ever seen. This includes Eric Clapton. I'll be happy to pay more for a ticket to go see them again.

All 3 bands were amazing. They all sounded great, made funny jokes, interacted with the crowd, and played their instruments with incredible skill. Story of the year (and their side projects) really kept the energy all night and played their best songs!!

Best show I have ever been too... Got he crowd into it right way... The most energy given by a band and most fun I've had at the pageant. Awesome experience!!!

Story of the Year put on a great show. I love their music and was excited to see them live. They were very energetic the entire time they played. They are great people as well. They really engaged the audience and made it worth my time and money to come. I would love to see them again!

My only beef with the show in general was that, either they decided on an opening band at the last second, or they really just didn't care whether or not we knew who they were. I don't even know what the band's name was because I couldn't find it written anywhere. One of the singers said who they were once, but I couldn't understand what he said.... Hawthorne Heights was pretty good, although not exactly my cup of tea. Nothing against them, I just wasn't that interested in their sound after the first couple songs. STORY OF THE YEAR, however, was awesome. It was the second time I've seen them, though I've been a fan for a long time. They put on a great show, and they had SO MUCH ENERGY. I love how they're all wireless, so they can just run around with their guitars and go wherever they want. They are so good live. I have no problem with bands that AREN'T super animated and energetic at live shows, but it IS a big plus when they are. I love Story of the Year (and I've met a couple of the guys a few times since they're married to my ex-step-cousins. haha) This was a great concert.

Story of the Year sounded fantastic and kept you entertained by constantly moving around on stage.

Story of the Year put on one of the best shows I've ever seen. They had so much energy, and there was nothing but good vibes flowing. They are true musicians who paid homage to other musical influences and friends. I have no complaints! When's the next STL show?!

The opening band pistols and the sisters were outstanding. They had awesome songwriting and musicianship. SOTY Rocked their butts off high energy and a great all around show

Story of the Year was amaze balls! Haha! But seriously, they put on an amazing show!! They never fail to get the crowd excited and involved.

It started with Halthorn Heights coming out and getting us all pumped up and then Story of the Year just took it over the top. They really rocked with a great song set and stage show and the way they interact with the crowd is great. Thank you a million times over!!!!

They always go above and beyond and leave every bit of energy out on the stage. Bottom line, seeing story of the year should be in your bucket list. I've already seen them four times and still counting.

I really enjoyed Story of the Year! It was my first time seeing them and I took my BF who loves them and got me hooked, there were some mic issues but they had a great attitude with everything! I will see them again if they are down!

I was a little disappointed in Hawthorne Heights. They lacked stage presence and didn't put on a great show. JT, the lead singer, was sick so that may have contributed to it. Story of the Year was really good. I'd forgotten how much I loved Page Avenue. It's a really great album and so many memories came flooding back from 10 years ago.

Story of the year kicked ass!!!! Hawthorne heights also kicked ass. The crowd was dead but got closer to stage and everyone that there was pumped. Great show!!!!

Story of the Year was awesome, as expected. Opening bands took 4 hours though and got a little boring after a while.

the event that took place sat the 8th of june was PHENOMENAL!!!! i have seen THE LEOPARD, TOTH, and the members of SOTY in their side bands but this was the first time i have seen them live together!!!! all i can say is three words....... BEST SHOW EVER!!! i bought my tickets to see TOTH..... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that band but SOTY was beyond words hope to see them again in the near future.....SOON!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU THE LEPOARD TEAR OUT THE HEART AND STORY OF THE YEAR for the best show ever!!!!

Seeing Story Of The Year at my favorite St. Louis venue was an awesome experience!! I by no means claim to be a SOTY die-hard, and even so, I recommend everyone see them live! It's like a right of passage for any St. Louisan involved in the punk/rock scene. Such talented dudes who know how to put on a show!

The first band, the Leopard, was pretty good. I had never heard of them, but I liked them. The second band, Tear Out the Heart, was ok. I didn't like the lead singer (mostly because I don't like screaming/roaring in my music). I thought the bass player was awesome though and that he should be the lead singer instead. Basically, I hated all the verses where the lead singer "sang" and loved all the choruses where the bass player sang. Story of the Year was amazing. I've listened to their music for a long time, but this was the first time I saw them live. They did not disappoint.

I have been to many SOTY concerts and this show was the best one yet!! Dan was phenomenal, the sound was perfect, Ryan rocked some solos, and Phillip owned the backup vocals!! All around amazing show!! I haven't missed a single show and I won't miss the next one.. They raise the bar EVERYTIME they play!!!

Story of the Year was amazing. They put on one f the best shows I've ever seen. However, I wasn't really a fan of any of the other bands, and there were way too many of them in my opinion. But Story of the Year made it all worth it.

I have loved Story of the Year forever, it was my first time seeing them and it was greater than I could have expected. The venue, The Pageant, was great as well, I don't think there is a bad spot in the whole place. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute!

Amazing show as usual for Story of the Year. So much energy out of these guys! Backflips off of the speakers, guitar flips, walking out into the crowd with their guitars.... These guys always have great stage presence. Love seeing them, and the Pageant is a great venue for them.

SOTY rocked my face off! They did an awesome job (as they always do) and this show was unique because they played their PAGE AVE CD in it's entirety. I loved everything about it and love that they appreciate their fans and hometown enough to have done a show like this. My husband and I are longtime fans and go to every show. This show definitely trumped their others. I love their energy and humor on stage and the way they connect with their audience. They really outdid themselves this time! Can't wait to see them again!

The only reason I give this a four is because I missed the opening band, but from seeing Saosin and Story of the Year I have to say it was one of the most memorable concerts of my life. Cove Reber and Alex Rodriguez were on point as usual and Chris Beau and Justin brought a lot of energy to the stage and played even better. I got a chance to meet Cove after the show and he is by far one of the most interesting people I ever met. He speaks with excitement and enthusiasm regardless of the fact that he was sick. He has a lot of potential and if I had the opportunity to meet the other guys I'm sure I would say the same of them. Story of the Year was great. You can tell they were excited to be there, they love what they do and it shows. Their one guitarist I was very impressed by. He was the one on stage helping to get the set ready which I thought was really cool cause a lot of bands dont get involved(Chris Sorenson also helped unload Saosins gear which i thought was equally cool). They played a great set, a lot of older songs even though their new CD just came out. The lead singer is just as good on stage as he is on the albums which is awesome. Great crowd interaction and motivators. The rest of the guys played great. Their drummer had an electronic drum that hit a bass so hard you could feel it through your whole body, it was INTENSE. By the time Story of the Year was halfway through their set I was so exhausted I had to calm down. Sweat was pouring down to the bottom of my shirt.

minus the 3 openers and not going on stage till 10pm Story of the Year was so awesome! they rocked out, with great vocals and instrumental. I could have watched them all weekend!

First and third band weren't all that great, but For the City owned that stage like it was there show. And obviously story of the year was awesome. New Album songs were lit AF.

Story of the year, man do these guys totally ROCK! I ve seen them several times live now and everytime they put on an amazing show. Them, mixed with the incredible venue of the Pageant, provide an atmosphere that cannot be duplicated. A must see venue and band. Thank you, SOTY, for another unforgettable experience!

Even after all these years, story of the year is still the best live performance iver ever seen ive basically seen all the major punk/rock bands of my day. If you ever have the chance to see them do not pass it up!!!

So this is a bit old, but I saw them at the Gorge in 2004 at the Warped Tour. I was front row of the pit and it was one of the best concerts I have ever been. They are so energetic and ready to give you the show of your life. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to rock their face off!

Story of the Year performed well and had great stage presence. Very entertaining both during and in between songs. However, I was at the concert for the Struts, and they didn't disappoint. Absolutely fantastic set. The lead singer had excellent stage character. Songs were fun and they got the audience involved frequently. As a fan I loved the concert, but I can imagine it would be enjoyable even for those who don't know their music. Rated 4 stars because I wasn't very interested in the other acts.

The Struts put on a fantastic show. Great sound, the singer has an impeccable range, and looked like the love child of Alice Cooper and KISS complete with the gold sequin vest and boots. Everything I could have wanted from a British Punk Rock Band. Will definitely be seeing The Struts again

Me and the wife went all the band perform great. The staff was nice. My wife didnt have her id to show her 31 age but she got in with out paying a cover charge. The drink are high tho. Would come back in a heart beat thanks

One of the best concerts I've been to at the pageant!

There are no words to describe how amazing this show was, if you were there you understand. The fact that it was also streamed live on yahoo for those who were unable to get tickets was great. I love the Pageant as well, it's a great venue, and no matter where you are you have a good view of the stage.

This was a high energy concert. The quality improved with each band leading up to Story of the Year. I highly recommend these bands to everyone!

This show as every show that Story of The Year puts on was amazing! This is by far one of the best bands to come from St. Louis. When you talk about the staples of our city they should be included! Sold out show after sold out show! I would recommend this show to anyone who enjoys any genre of music!

Such a great show! From the FOAD, to moon going to the balcony for Greek Fire, to the insane energy that SOTY is known for, the show was incredible. I've seen them a bunch of times, and every show is worth every penny!

Starting off with the Fuck off and dies, the whole place got in the spirit very quick. Then Greek fire set the stage and the entire pageant was ecstatic. Playing for almost a full hour was for sure my highlight of the night. Was one of the best hoho shows I've seen over the years. Story of the year did a fantastic job finishing up the show for an all out great night.

This was two great shows for the price of one. Moon Valdean, lead singer of Greek Fire and vocalist/guitarist for Story of the Year, puts on a fantastic show. As the Greek Fire frontman, he was so much fun to watch. He crowd-surfed on a makeshift couch in the pit. He ran around the Pageant (which drove the security guards crazy). He climbed over the balcony and hung over the edge, looking like he wanted to jump. He interacted with the crowd. He explained what the "Greek Fire Family" is. He was awesome. Greek Fire put on an amazing show. Likewise, Story of the Year was kick-ass. They rocked the hell out of the Pageant and had everyone head-banging and thrashing. It was cool to see them onstage again.

I love them. I grew up with them, and I can't get enough of them. You rock guys. Keep it up. make more albums

This is the best band I've ever seen live! This is not the first time I've seen them and I would see them again in a second! Full of energy and amazing musicians!

Maybe I'm biased because this is my favorite band...but SOTY puts on an amazing show every single time they perform. I'm sure they really bring the best for the hometown St. Louis shows, but I always thoroughly enjoy their performances and I'm always very sad when it's over. It's like being on a whole different planet when you're at their concerts and when it's over you have to get back to reality. I've seen this band a bunch of times, but no show is ever the same and I think they just keep getting better. I absolutely loved their Page Avenue concert in 2011, this anniversary tribute was just as good. And it was packed, completely sold out- a lot of STL support for their homecoming.

I saw these guys back in 2006 at X fest and they were one of the absolute best bands there right along with Atreyu and it was by far one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Ive been following story of the year's career since the page avenue days. Absolutely the best live rock show you will ever see! Great to see a band put all that energy and emotion into their live show!!!!!!!

Story of the Year put on an amazing show Friday night at The Pageant. Lighting and sound could not have been better. And the atmosphere was perfect for the show. I have seen Story of the Year many times, and have been to The Pageant numerous times, and together it made one awesome show!

I love seeing bands at the Pageant. SOTY gave one hell of an amazing show! They went at it full tilt for the whole set! The momentum was at full throttle throughout. Amazing.

These guys coming back to their heritage and playing the whole page avenue cd says a lot about them. The pageant is a nice clean venue with 21+ area so you don't have to deal with little kids at the show. One of the best concerts I've been to in long time!

To just say that this was an amazing show would be a complete understatement. This show went above and beyond amazing into extraordinary territory. SOTY know how to put on an amazing show and this one was no exception. I suggest everyone experience one of their live shows. The energy that the guys bring to every performance is immeasurable and you can just tell that they love what they're doing and having a great time and it doesn't hurt that they are some of the most down to earth guys and truly appreciate all of the support they get from their fans. I can go on and on about these dudes all day. Point is, if you ever get a chance to see them live, take full advantage of it and enjoy.

It was absolutely amazing! This is not the first time seeing these guys. Started following them in about 2002, 2003. And they keep getting better and better. The are energizing and entertaining. They know how to work the crowd and they get worked up by the crowd. I would see these guys anytime!

Heard about them a while back and liked their music. But seeing them in concert was TOTALLY different then listening to them via our iPod! They are awesome in concert! And they're entertaining! Most bands will stay on stage and sing the songs and everyone likes it. But being right there with him practically in your face was awesome! He has a tendency to crowd surf, so be prepared!

Only at a SOTY show can the band on stage make you feel like your on stage as well. Probably due to the amazing amount of back flips, spin kicks, guitar throws, and full throttle energy that rivals the energy of the crowd!!! A MUST SEE!!!!!

Not only was the band amazing, but the iLounge is a great place for a concert. It is a very intimate setting. Story f the year rocked the house!!

I've seen Story of the Year three times; the first in 2003 opening for Linkin Park at a venue holding 11,000, then again at Warped tour. They were great these first two times. This time, however, blew me away. They balanced their song choice between the fast-paced, screamo songs and the slower, more heartfelt songs. They also played a great mixture of songs from all four of their albums during their 90-minute set. Their energy was great; they interacted with the crowd the whole show, and were joking around having a good time on stage. They're humble guys who love their fans are in it to have fun and play their music.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Story of the Year, they were amazing last night. Love the iLounge; great place for a concert. $5 beer is a bit ridiculous though. Was surprised there were not more people there, but it meant we could get super close to the stage. Great show!

Haven't been to a show in a while, it was well worth it!

I actually came to this show to see Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. I was expecting Story of the Year to be a whole lot more chill than they were. The only songs I knew of theirs were "Sidewalks" and "Anthem of our Dying Day." Chill was not the case at all. If you get a chance to see these guys live, I reccomend it fully. Had a blast.
