If this were a tour featuring his first album, it would have been fine for Justin Vernon to show up by himself. This show was a real disappointment. I've seen them with the full band, and it was incredible. It really should have been advertised as "Justin Vernon plays Bon Iver". Given that he had no band with him, he should have stayed away from a few of the songs the he chose to play. With no band to back them up (not even a bass drum beat), the songs are nothing like they are meant to be. A few times, I couldn't help being reminded of what it was like to be a teenage kid in his bedroom trying to pull off a song that he loves. Additionally, he wasn't very tight. Mistakes are much more obvious when you're the only one playing. Some songs were just fine, but the lack of notice that it was going to be just him was a severe disappointment. I would have set my expectations accordingly and not expected a full performance, and that would have been much better.

I thought that the seats and the venue were great for someone performing such as Justin Vernon and Bon Iver. The setlist was switched up from other concerts he played on the same tour which I liked. He played a cover that I never heard before. And I thought the live versions of some of the songs were much better than the original album versions.

This was my first time seeing Bon Iver and first time to the Fox: great show and great venue. The newly renovated Fox Theater in uptown Oakland is a phenomenal place to see a show and Bon Iver put on a good one. It was short and sweet, running probably less than 90 minutes total (excluding the opener Megafaun, also good), but I felt like I got my money's worth anyway. Really good sound and soulful performance all around.

Bon Iver blew me away at the Fox Theater in Oakland last night. Everything from the majestic harmonizing to the captivating lights, they rocked it! He strikes me as our modern day Art Garfunkle....you just don't expect such an angelic sound to come out of this burly vessel of a man. It's a show not to be missed the next time around!

More than I was expecting. Bon Iver still needs to add a few songs to their repertoire, but they put on a good show. The harmonies were there, although sometimes the levels seemed a bit off (the drums were too loud for some parts). I would definitely see them again. They are a young band and still finding their sound, but they have a unique quality that is hidden in the music and the voice.

Bon Iver was so amazing, it was done really simple with beautiful lighting. Justin's voice and his harmonies with his band were amazing. Mike's solo song was also beautiful. They really seemed like they were enjoying themselves. This show has to be in my top five.

Love the album, Bon Iver are certainly of the moment. Thought they'd expand on songs more with a four piece, kept it pretty quiet. Hard for the crowd to keep it quiet when they are a) a hot ticket and b) at a venue set up for bands to rock out. SRO on the floor, and we're supposed to stand quietly and listen? Can forgive the ego rock star excess of shushing and 10 guitars on stage since they are truly awesome and really seem to care. Might be a bit premature as a headliner - seemed to run out of material. Best moments were Justin by himself, says something about how to integrate the band with these songs. I was singing Flume and Re Stacks all the way home with my daughter. Haunting and beautiful. Needs to put out a Crazy Horse kind of album next, all feedback and mayhem, like the The Wolves - great fun!

It is rare moment in musical history when a band can come along and completely stun an audience. I was lucky enough to be a part of that magic last night. I have an avid concert-goer. I have never witnessed beauty such as that. The audience was literally silenced. I saw men and women wiping fallen tears from there eyes throughout the entire show. It is often times the case, that when a new band with only one album journeys out on tour...it may not be that great. Sometimes they sound new. They sound unrehearsed, or nervous or worse...they sound exactly like their album. No creativity live, yet. Bon Iver's power came in their live performace. Most of us, I am sure expected the show to be a one man show, but it certainly was not. Each band member was powerful and versatile. You could feel their excitement in playing in such a beautiful theater. It was so modest. This band and front man Justin Vernon seem to encapsulate the dichotomies of life and living. The only comparison I have is to Kahlil Gibran, the poet. You are able to feel the beauty of sorrow and joy, heart-filled and heart break all within a single verse. That is some powerful music!

My Girlfriend and I attend Bon Iver at the Fox, the Venue is stunning and created a amazing energy for the night's show. The Sold Out show was one that I won't soon forget. With the release of "Blood Bank" Bon Iver was able to add a few song's to their play list for the evening. This was my 2nd Bon Iver show (first being outside lands ) and they keep getting better. In a nutshell if you can get tickets ,,by all means go!

Beautiful show. The songs from Emma.. hold up well to expanded band versions and the full band harmonies were awesome. When I saw these guys at the first Outside Lands it was moving to see the "hipster" festival crowd lose the cynicism and actually sing along when prompted by Justin Vernon during "The Wolves". It still moves, more so now because of everyone still feels it after a couple of years of seeing Vernon get more well deserved exposure. The Fox Theater in Oakland is probably one of the best places in the Bay Area to see a show of this size.

Its not easy to get a group of hipsterish folks out on a Thurs (okay, maybe it is, but that's not the point), but Bon Iver did it. Running off the power of just one album, this group made it work. Not over-theatrical, Not spectacularly sparkling-but powerful. The Fox Theater is an amazing place too, so that combined with a show of down-hearted emotion that gets in your guts, is exactly what I think live shows should be about.

Justin Vernon and his band of Wisconsonites put on a remarkable show at the historic Fox theater in Oakland. Staying true to their midwestern roots, the show was efficiently and beautifully understated, as the crew sang soulfully harmonized lyrics which were expertly layered to the front of the mix. Warm lighting filled the room as the members changed instruments and positions on the stage, sometimes as a rock quartet and then in the round doing bluegrass. Musicianship was incredible and was led by Vernon's voice, as he ranged from a Nick Drake folk whisper to a D'Angelo neo-soul vibe. All in all, one of the best shows in Oakland this year.

I wish it was clear there was no opener as a lot of people showed up late, while the band played wonderfully the whole evening I would have enjoyed it more if everyone gave them as much attention as the second act. 10/10 would go again, the venue wasn't too big and the sound is better than the saddledome. The artists were incredible and really put on a magical performance that was so much more than just listening to their album.

definitely wasn't so excited to attend this show, but my boyfriend LOVES the band... I'd listened to a couple recorded tracks that he likes, and a couple covers and youtube videos that my cousins or younger friends had recorded... it was always "okay"... but live?? AMAZING. there was just about a full orchestra on the stage, and it was FANTASTIC. not to mention the crowd that attended this show was definitely one very different from the majority of shows i have attended in my life. It's one of the first shows in a very long time I purchased GA tickets for (usually, i go for the reserved seating, but nothing was available when i purchased these tickets) and was nervous about that aspect because I knew I would be showing up to the venue later than anticipated. HOWEVER, every tall person standing in front of my boyfriend and i offered for me and for him (who is less than 6ft tall, but a head taller than my 5'2") to move ahead of them so that i could actually SEE the stage and the show. That in itself made me love the entire experience that much more. NEVER has a crowd been so harmoniously polite as to allow not just one but two people to move forward into a position that allowed them better viewing and inconvenienced no one. that the show was also incredible just made everything that much more spectacular than i could have imagined. THANK YOU, BON IVER, for allowing me to experience such glorious humanity.

Bon Iver was amazing. I loved the set design (maybe because I'm an architecture student), it was very simple but the lighting and projections enhanced the whole experience. Vernon was amazing live --pure vocals. Drawbacks: Only one, by the Bon Iver came out it was 9:30 so there was only 1hr30min of Bon Iver playing. It went by really fast, but that was because there wasn't a boring moment.

First off was The Staves. The three very plain, but very beautiful ladies took the stage right at 7:30. Their simple set up (3 Mics, a guitar, and ukulele) balanced out the rest of the instruments that were strone about the entire surface of that stage (Bon Iver's stuff). The Staves delivered wonderful 3 part harmonies and bone chilling melodies right around a half hour. One of my favorite songs they played was "Tongue behind my teeth", which was accompanied by Bon Iver's voilinist. They definitely set a nice mood going into the rest of the concert. I highly recommend you checking them out! After The Staves, we sat until close to 8:45 or so until Bon Iver took the stage. The stage was, like I said earlier, filled with instruments. It was a pretty impressive sight, but looked very claustraphobic too. There were what looked to be burlap material hanging from the beams on the stage which created a nice organic, somewhat haunting vibe. Mixed with the light show that was displayed throughout the entire show it made for a pretty amazing display. The first 5 songs that Bon Iver played were the first 5 tracks off their latest CD "Bon Iver". The songs were wonderfully performed and definitely resonated in your chest! The mix was perfect! You could here every instrument and overall it sounded great. Throughout the rest of the set they played a mix of some old songs "Blood Bank" and some of the classics from "For Emma, Forever Ago" like "Creature Fear" & "Skinny Love". All in all the set was solid, well performed, and sounded great! The only thing that I had to get used to and sort of didn't like in some of the songs was that it got a bit too crazy and loud in sections of songs that I was used to being soft and bare (which was the appeal to it). However, with the light show, I can see where spicing up some of the sections was very appropriate.

Bon Iver sounds amazing. They are 9 pieces (including Justin Vernon) and sound just like the album, which I find amazing considering the intricacies of the instrumentation in their songs. They played most songs from "Bon Iver" as well as the most popular ones from "For Emma". Also, the opening act was fantastic! I wish the audience would have been quieter. I want to see them again because the audience in the mezzanine was quite rude. I don't know why people would pay for a concert ticket to just talk and drink beer. People even arrived an hour after the show started. Overall, I think Bon Iver is best in a smaller venue. The songs are intimate, so a basketball arena is less than ideal.

I'm not really sure where to begin to explain that night. This was my first concert ever, I went alone, and I didn't know what to expect. I've been a fan of Bon Iver for a couple of years now and I was extremely excited for the fact that I was given a chance to see him live. Kathleen Edwards open the night, and I had never heard any of her music. She's quirky, charming, and full of talent. Left me with my jaw literally dropped and definitely set the bar to how great of a show we were about to get. And then Bon Iver hit the stage, quickly opening with Perth and beautifully and effortlessly transforming into Minnesota, WI. The way every single track sounded live... You couldn't believe it. Infinitely more beautiful than the CD. Some of the greatest moments were when the crowd would join in and sing in a beautiful chorus like they did in -for example- Blood Bank, For Emma, Skinny Love, and I swear all of Kansas City could hear us chanting "What might've been lost" over and over at the end of Wolves. Every single minute, every single song was just astounding. To me, that was one heck of a first concert experience. I'm trying to find words, and struggling, to explain that night... even now, almost one month after! If you ever get a chance to see this band live, please don't think twice, just do it. I promise you will not be disappointed. There's no way you could be. You'll be like me wanting to relive that moment over and over forever.

I really have no idea where to begin writing a review for this concert. Bon Iver has been non stop playing in my life ever since I first heard Justin's voice back in 2008. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time dreaming about what it would be like to see him live and lemme just tell you, it far exceeded anything I had ever hoped for. I've been to a lot of concerts and this is the only band I would recommend that everyone see at least once in their lifetime. Vernon's skill as a musician is absolutely incredible, he's like an orchestra director live. 9 person band and each song was executed flawlessly! Of course it helps that on this tour he was backed by some of the best musicians around these days... absolute artists! All of them. My brother, who going into this show liked Bon Iver, but came away with a whole new respect for the band, put it best when he said "dude, Justin Vernon is one of those crazy rare musicians that actually sounds better live than he does on record." I couldn't agree with him more. That said there is nothing else I can say about this show other than, people... do yourself a favor and see this band live if you ever get the chance. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

They did not just play their songs and entertain the crowd. They had mesmerizing musical interludes between and during songs that just blew my mind. The musical capabilities of EVERY SINGLE band member was astounding! I think everyone played at least three different instruments. Such a musical eargasm. Justin's voice is fantastic live, especially a cappella. Not to mention the venue... Spreckles has such an old time flair that it just projects you back into the olden days. Complete with courteous ushers and reclining seats! I was in heaven .. such a magical evening. I never wanted it to end.

This concert was remarkable! The only problem was that there was this lady behind me who wouldn't stop talking during the opener.

Bon Iver is a beautiful musician and the music came to life with the 9 piece band/orchestra on stage. The whole performance was phenominal, beautiful lighting and the sound was so crisp. You can truely see each instrument contributing to the magic of the soundscape. The venue is also absolutely stunning.

The venue at Prospect Park Bandshell seems private, but yet seats a lot of people. The food was amazing, beer was fairly priced and the sound quality and stage was exceptional. Although, I've seen a lot of his shows online and I was really looking forwad to seeing this show, I thought it was, ok. I wasn't blown away by the performance but I also wasn't disappointed. His type of music and soft voice allows you to become mesmorized by the performance and not out of your seat enjoying the show. I felt like I would have enjoyed this show just as much from a webcast sitting on my porch outside with friends.

Bon Iver was amazing. You can feel it in your bones. Or was that the bass? Either way, Bon Iver has a magic about their music. Fantastic sound and great venue.

Bon Iver was incredible, I was absolutely speechless/blown away. The National was a great venue, and even had it be a "quiet show" (meaning keeping conversations to a minimum) which was really nice; Bon Iver is pretty quiet at times and it was lovely to be in the company of so many people who truly appreciate his moving music.

Gorgeous, gorgeous concert. Unforgettable experience and such a good live performance! The new album is definitely meant to be heard live. Ended up seeing Justin Vernon outside after the show and he signed my poster and took a picture with me and my family! Great guy who makes beautiful music. MUST SEE!

Bon Iver put on an even more amazing show than I had anticipated- the addition of the large multi-instrumental band only made his sound even more interesting. He played every song I could have wanted to hear and even an extra Bjork cover song. Very personable and attentive to the more than appreciative audience, Justin was charming. The rest of the band members showed just as much enthusiasm and excitement for being there as well. It was my first show at TCT and if I was a local I'd definitely see more- great crowd and amazing acoustics! Was on the 2nd row of the 2nd level of the balcony and had a perfect view.

Saw Bon Iver in Brooklyn last night. The show was absolutely incredible. They had one opening act (Who to be honest I didn't really enjoy). He played for about 45 minutes with a 30 minute intermission between him and Bon Iver. Bon Iver then played for about an hour and 15 minutes. They played mostly new songs from their album 22 A Million. The energy in the room was amazing. The lights, sounds, and visuals blew me away. It was all a magnificent experience. I would definitely recommend seeing them live because it's something that you have to really experience for yourself.

Not only did Justin and his new crew (as well as old favorites like my boy S. Carey) encompass and enhance the majority of the new album (9 out of 10 tracks), but he pulled out 5 tracks from his self-titled album (probably my favorite), plus Heavenly Father, and one from For Emma, Forever Ago. The lights were way beyond what I expected mixed with the awesome sheer loudness of the music in Hammerstein Ballroom. We are talking aspects of two of my favorite live bands, Radiohead and Sigur Ros, that were just as good if not better in parts of this live show. The plethora of screens at the top, giving random lyrics and artistry from the album were balanced perfectly with the lights (strobe lights were on point!) coming at you hard and in perfect sync with the sound. My only disappointment in in myself only seeing 1 out of 10 shows in New York. Thank you Justin and friends. Thank you for Perth!

Absolutely terrible performance and lacklustre energy. He seemed to not really care too much about what was going on and did not sing a whole lot. Leaned on his light show and background instrumental players to carry the show. Played mostly his new album as that's part of his tour. Crowd was unbelievably rowdy for a tame performer and people could not hold their composure in the venue. Talking and having conversation was more important than what was on stage since he was so boring. The crowd's reaction when he came back for "one more" and did not sing Skinny Love was quite funny. Overpriced for what you get.

I went mainly because my wife and I took her cousin who is a huge fan of Bon Iver. Show was great. Set was solid. Music was unique. Patti Smith also killed it! Sitting in the Garden Box seats is always an enjoyable experience. Apparently the lead actor in the HBO show, Silicon Valley, was sitting in our box as noted by my wife's cousin. I've never seen the show, but that's still pretty awesome!

This is the 3rd time I've seen Bon Iver and I think they only played 1 hour and 10 minutes :( I swear they have always played longer, especially since they are in such an intimate venue. We love them soooo much but hope they or their staff will read this and take into consideration that we invested over $50 a ticket for such a short show. Otherwise, it was a rad show!

If you've never seen Bon Iver before, it's hard to explain. They are all so very talented. The music is so rich. Justin Vernon is a humble genius! And the BOWL! It's a bit large, but if you get close enough, it's the most amazing venue!!

The Bowl is amazing so any show there is automatically kicked up a few notches. it was my second time seeing Bon Iver. First time he was still diving into the music scene and it was endearing that he had a limited line up and he basically played all the songs he had. It was great. This show was more intense, more lighting, more band members and felt like a strange combo of songs. There were some rough transitions between songs and I think fade to black transitions were overused. That said, the horns were fantastic, he had a couple of gems of songs and the overall vibe and tone that he sets is lovely.

Out of all the times I've been at the Hollywood Bowl, this has definitely been the best one! There were 0 technical complications and the sound was impeccable. It was actually louder than the other 3 times I went and Bon Iver's visuals, along with their lighting and the Bowl's lights made a wonderful performance.

Having seen Bon Iver perform the last few years in LA, I anticipated seeing an incredible show in line with previous tours. The whole first hour was just the new album and brought confusion, lack of connection and listlessness in the crowd. So disappointing to pay a good penny for this show four months in advance only to walk out due to poor set list. It was raining when Patti Smith played and Bon Iver, the musicianship was tip top (and Patti, worth the ticket price alone) and I would've stayed in pouring rain if more songs were filtered through from previous, well-known and love albums.

...because you are going to hear the whole thing. I certainly appreciate an artist s desire to evolve, and welcome the chance to experience that, but not at the expense of their entire history. Bon Iver's style has migrated from a very unique and haunting take on the Nick Drake school of introspective acoustic singer songwriter to large scale electronica incorporating a lot of practical musicianship. Justin is clearly an immensely talented musician and producer, and the group that accompanies him are also excellent musicians. If he had gone through his entire library applying the new stamp I would have been intrigued, but he elected to play his ENTIRE NEW ALBUM as a first act. This album is...challenging. I would have much preferred to hear a few select tracks from the new album, with the rest of the show being the composed of Bon Iver's remarkable library. If Justin had incorporated his new style to his old songs, wonderful, but he chose to essentially ignore what are and will be his best songs, regardless of style. It's telling that the best song of the night was his only acoustic performance, his biggest hit "Skinny Love". Despite its low volume, it carried more passion and energy than the remainder of the show combined. If I do see Bon Iver again, it will be with him and his guitar in a smaller setting. Also, with encores, the entire show was 85 minutes. He left a lot on the table. This is the Hollywood Bowl, buddy. You probably won't be back. You should have made better use of your time. Patti Smith in the opening role was fantastic, and played the songs you want to hear with grace and energy.

I have been looking forward to seeing Bon Iver live for the past 8 years now. I finally got the chance, and I was incredibly let down by the set he chose to play. I understand it's been a long time since his first album, but that first album brought a lot of his fans to the table. This show was 90% his new album (which if you ask me, is horrid), and a sprinkle of a few songs from his last album, not the most popular ones either. He only played one song from his laid back acoustic early years. There were so many songs that I would have loved to finally hear live, and he didn't play any of them. Also, it was a lease event, so forced to buy alcohol there, and the lines were insane. They also cut people off from buying alcohol at 8:50pm right as Bon Iver took to stage. So, you either waited in lines so long you missed Patti Smith open, or you just didn't get the chance to buy food/alcohol at all. I really wish I had sold my tickets and skipped this show altogether. Large amount of money for very little return.
