The Brotherhood put on a great show. from start to finish they played a great mixture of songs, even snuck in a couple of covers and a Crowes song. The band meshed well together .It was a small venue which made for an even better experience. What a great jam band. I would go see them again in a heartbeat.

The A and R was a great place to see a show and CBR did not disappoint\u2026\u2026.as long as you like jam bands. CBR is NOT the Black Crowes for sure but I thought it was a great concert.

I have been a Crowes fan for years so I was not sure what to expect being unfamiliar with CRB. My wife and I both really enjoyed the gig at the Aladdin Theater. CRB rocked the small theater and the music was excellent! I would go and see them again the music the songs and the attitude was awesome. Well Done CRB...come back to PDX soon! PEACE OUT :)

Good concert. Saw them several months prior and it is obvious that they are beginning to meld into a fine band. Keep it freaky! One con....they were about 30 minutes late causing me to lose my buzz to some degree.. :(

This band is becoming something to reckon with! The new songs shine with this group. Chris sounds relaxed and unforced while the band backs him up vocally with great harmonies. The sound is something out the 70's, in a good way. The band stretches out and allows guitarist Neal Casal to shine in extended instrumental and solo sections. Check out recent live recordings for proof and have fun at a show!

Eh, only OK. The show dragged as throughout the first hour he never played a song familiar to the crowd. We left early.

One of the best shows I've seen with Chris R. in any format. This lineup has a groove down that can't be denied. Do I pray for the Crowes to reunite?? Hell yes. Would I be be happy if CRB just kept rolling? I could deal with it.

Take the lead singer for one of the greatest rock bands; combine his experience with Phil Lesh and other rock legends; add some wonderful musicians; mix together you and you end up with a great new band. Chris Robinson Brotherhood is one to see! As a huge Black Crows fan, I wasn't even disappointed that he played very few of their songs. They played a couple of Grateful Dead covers and much of their sound was influenced by the Dead and the last couple of Crows CDs. Also loved the smaller venue.

I saw these guys when they came to the GA Theater in Athens, GA and it was incredibly lackluster. I would save my money if I were you. I am a big Black Crowes fan, but this line-up was BORING! Go see Rich Robinson's band if you want the heat!

Amazing how tight these guys were. The sound in that small of a place was absurdly clear. I was blown away by how laid back the band was, yet they jammed like it was a studio session. Very good vibe throughout the entire three hour show. I only wish that there was a recording of these live performances available. Even a studio recording would be desired but the real joy of these guys music is only transmitted from a stage.

I would of given 5 stars if they would of played another Black Crowes song instead of an Elvis Presley cover....and as a long time Crowes fan, about mid-show, I turned to one of my friends and asked "What the hell did Rich Robinson do again?"...:) Good riddens! Except 2 shorts breaks, Chris & the Brotherood played for over 3 hours....sounded good overall & great at times- when they wanted to jam. Would definitely recommend!

Great show at a great venue. This place is like watching someone perform in your basement. Small and awesome vibe in the place. Sound of the band was great and Chris's vocals were awesome. Best 20 bucks you could spend is seeing these guys and Rich and his band play this year.

This was my 14 time seeing Chris Robinson perform (12 times with the Black Crowes, once with the New Earth Mud, and once on an earlier leg of the Brotherhood tour), and it was one of his best performances that I have seen. It was easily comparable to the 2005-2006 era Black Crowes shows and superior to anything that he has done with the Black Crowes in the last five years. In this group, Chris seems to be truly enjoying himself, which bleeds into the music. Most of the songs are new material, which I am told will be recorded when the band hits the studio in January 2012. In my opinion, this is some of his best material in 15 years. However, those of you expecting a lot Crowes' songs or a Crowes' style rock show will be disappointed. In addition to the new stuff, Chris does a song or two from Before the Frost.... Until the Freeze and a number of covers. The band is cooking. The Chris Robinson Brotherhood lineup includes Adam MacDougall (of the Black Crowes) on keyboards, George Sluppick on drums, Mark "Muddy" Dutton (of Burning Tree) on Bass, and Neal Casal on guitar. Neil Casal brings great guitar playing and vocal harmonies to the group. His slide guitar playing was a highlight. Muddy is a great bass player and sing. George is solid on drums. Adam MacDougall has some big shoes to fill as a member of the Black Crowes but seems more at home with the CRB material. Chris is always fantastic. I would recommend CRB to anyone, but keep in mind that 1) it is not the Black Crowes 2) the songs are new, and 3) the setlists always include some extensive jams.

From the moment they hit the stage it was a non-stop good time. They had smiles on their faces at times throughout the show. They had a good time jammin' and it showed. The crowd really was into them, dancing and moving to the music, and an an occasional shout out to how good they were was heard throughout the night. Bottom line, no matter where your location during the show, the sound was great and people were having a good time. Even thouth some of the jams were long they seemed to flow and were intermingled between shorter ones so that this show didn't seem as long as a previous one I attended. By the time it was over I didn't want the night to end! All of the guys in the Brotherhood are great! They took time to talk to fans, pose for pictures, and sign autographs, even Chris posed for pics! People were very appreciative.

Is it 1975 in here? Tie-dyed shirts. Long hair. Beards. Pot smoke inside the club. Cigarette smoke inside the club. Lighters being waved in the air inside the club. I bought a ticket for The Chris Robinson Brotherhood because I love Chris Robinson s voice and what he does with blues rock. What I got was a jam band. And the evening had started out so well. August 10th was the last day in NYC that the sun would set after 8:00pm until May 2012. Sunrise was at 6:00am and sunset was at 8:00pm. I decided to eat at one of my favorite Williamsburg restaurants even though it s not close to the club. Café Argentino is a small friendly restaurant with excellent food. So far I ve only eaten the appetizers the portions are so big that two appetizers and a salad make a full meal. This time I had chicken empanadas that tasted liked the best arroz con pollo you ever had and rolled veal stuffed with carrots and hard boiled eggs and served with Latin American potato salad (ensalada rusa or Russian salad, which usually has hard boiled eggs and peas and carrots and depending on the region can have mustard in addition to the mayonnaise and lots of other good stuff). I walked the mile to Music Hall of Williamsburg enjoying the sun and discovering a block of regular homes and daydreaming about selling my house in Queens and buying one in South Williamsburg. I re-discovered some restaurants and bars that I ve been to but hadn t noted exactly where they were before. Maybe I could live here. Then I got to Bedford Avenue and Hipster Central and wasn t so sure that one mile would be far enough away for my new home. Since I hadn t gotten there early I couldn t get my usual spot up behind the railing and near the stage. Instead I was near the back on the opposite side but still behind the railing so I had a good view of the stage. While I was waiting I noticed that except for the appearance of one guard for a few minutes there was no security around. So once the show started people were smoking pot and smoking cigarettes. And they were taking photos and taping, which MHoW usually doesn t allow. Combining the fashion choices of the audience and the band, adding in the smoke rising to the ceiling, and deleting the light of the cell phones it was feeling very 1975. All the band members had long hair and beards. Chris Robinson (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) was wearing a flowered shirt and beads. Neal Casal (lead guitar) was in a tie-dyed t-shirt and jeans, Adam MacDougall of The Black Crowes (keyboards) was wearing a suit but still looking very hippie-ish, and Mark Muddy Dutton of Burning Trees (bass) looked like a miniature version of Rolling Thunder Revue Bob Dylan with the hat and glasses and scarf. The only thing keeping me in the 21st century was George Sluppick (drums) who looked totally ironic hipster in his black thick-rimmed glasses, cowboy hat and buttoned shirt. They started out strong the band is tight and the musicians are excellent. Dutton has a way of playing melody on the bass that just killed me. But after Robinson would give us some excellent vocals he would turn it over to Casal who would just play this endless jam. What do I have against jam bands? It all sounds so self-indulgent. I d be happier watching the musicians doing an actual circle jerk on stage. The music never seems to connect to how the song started and it takes me out of the moment entirely. I find myself daydreaming until I hear the song ending or the vocalist coming back to the mic. I know others in the audience don t feel so removed and there were moments where in spite of myself I was dancing. But I didn t feel connected to the music and the musicians that endless soloing pushes me away. MacDougall took a couple of solos and his were just as masterful and just as off-putting. There was at least once when Casal and MacDougall each took a blues/rock solo and I was in heaven. But the one song that started out very bluesy they managed to turn into jam band masturbation by the end. They played two sets and by the second set one-quarter to one-third of the audience was gone. By the encore they d lost half the audience. Partly in their defense, it was a long night the show started about quarter after nine and lasted until about 12:15am. The band played some familiar songs and some new ones. One of my favorite moments was during Blue Suede Shoes done as a country blues song.

This show , we actually left 1/2 way through, during the break.Up to that point, all the songs sounded the same. And like any other new band. Not a seasoned pro like Chris can be.I have seen him twice before as The Black Crowes. And that rocked. This did not.Maybe it picked up later. But it can't have been much.I was let down really.

The first set was extremely strong. I really dug the Dylan and the Band cover. CRB has some very good songs of their own, and they were very well displayed during this set. Set two got off to a great start with Poor Elijah, but sort of sputtered and became unfocused after that. I found the jams in this set to be somewhat messy and uninteresting. Obviously, any time Chris is singing the band had my undivided attention. The Dead cover "Sugaree" to end the night was fine, though I find that song to be a little flat. I had a nice time, but I think these guys can improve and really knock it out of the park. It's not the Crowes, but I'll take what I can get...

I have been a Black Crowes fan for 20+ years and a fan of Chris Robinson and the New Earth Mud as well. However, I was not sure what to expect from the Chris Robinson Brotherhood (CRB). That being said, I can only hope that I have the opportunity to see the CRB again. I was blown away. The sound was different from both the Crowes and New Earth Mud. It had much more jazz and blues undertones that lent to some amazing free form jam sessions on many of the songs. The band really created some amazing soundscapes that gave you the feeling that they had been playing together for many years. I was fortunate enough to see them in small venue. I highly recommend anyone to catch the CRB if they are making a stop anywhere near where you live. Tickets were beyond affordable and I would honestly pay double to see them in the same venue again next week.

In some wacky ways, I feel as if I have watched Chris Robinson grow, transform, struggle, shine and transcend. A Black Crowes fan since SYMM, I can honestly say that Mr. Robinson is the finest wine in the world. He's truly become a musician, not just some local hack with great pipes. If for no other reason than to kick back with some friends (though I'd recommend jumpin' in the river and enjoying the ride), CRB is a wonderful, soulful, fun-ky trip. Assuming I get to live to 80 and Chris does too, I hope I get to hear him live at least once every year. I didn't give it 5 stars because it was the first date night my wife and I have had in months, so in all fairness, I wasn't 100% plugged in 100% of the time, but this show was incredible! And the Vogue is an awesome venue! Long Live CR!

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood sounded great, and their original music was excellent. They played for 2-1/2 hours, with only a half-hour intermission, which was very cool, and the show started on time. However, it was way too mellow throughout the entire show for me and my party. There were no real kicking songs - just trippy jams. Not a bad thing, in and of itself, but it left me wanting. I had read reviews of other shows, and apparently they played a few Black Crowes tunes, as well as other covers. Not in Pittsburgh. I would have loved to hear their take on some of their favorites from other artists. The closest we got was when one of their originals drifted into the instrumental of an Allman Brothers tune - but that was all we got. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed their music. It would be a great album to listen to at home while relaxing with some wine on the porch. The Club at Stage AE was a nice, intimate venue, and I would certainly see a show there again. The staff was polite and the bar service was good. We were sitting all the way in the back, and could still see Chris Robinson. Overall, the show was fine. Enjoyable, but it didn't "wow" me.

Kinda like to see some more Southern ROCK, Chris. And for one of the top frontmen in the business that's another pretty tamped down performance. But really I'm cool with it. Omg, whatever, etc... Casal kicks ass on lead! He and Robinson share an other worldly musical medicated sensibility. Neal, you solo whenever you want.

Very good show, I will buy the album. Chris and band were very professional, the music sounded tight. Chris sounded great, and the guitarist and drummer were standout. I'm a big fan of the Black Crowes and Chris Robinson, but I found the Brotherhood to be pretty boring. I'm not a big Grateful Dead fan and it was very Grateful Deadish. Too much twangy guitar for me and the songs seemed to go on forever. I saw the show at a very small and intimate venue and I felt that Chris Robinson did not do a very good job interacting with the audience. He barely said 2 words even when the crowd tried to engage him. I was falling asleep through it and left before it ended.

So nice to hear real genuine soulful strait up rock and roll. I guess I've been saying that about the Crows for twenty years now, but this represents what I love most about their music. Soulful songs that build and grow in rhythm, volume and inspiration. Thanks, brothers. Also enjoyed partying with the bass player a bit after the show at the bar next door. Again, down to earth and genuine. How many rock stars will Karaoke with drunken fans... well, they were pretty girls.

I saw The Black Crowes when they came to Portland at the end of their last tour together a year ago this month. They were great! However, I enjoyed Chris Robinson just about as well in a much smaller venue (The Aladdin Theater vs. Arlene Schnitzer Hall). The harmonies were awesome between Chris, the other guitarist, and bassist. I was bummed that they started 40 minutes late, however. Chris' choice of songs and the setlist order was super great too! The only thing I would have changed would be to add one more Dead tune. He sang Bertha plus Tumbleweed in Eden which he performed with Phil Lesh and Friends. I loved Chris when he was with Phil and Friends. I would definitely see the band again. Chris has such an eclectic voice. He can sing straight rock, some gospel, and play some jazz rhythms as well. I also enjoyed his guitar playing. He jammed really well with the other guitarist. He only played the guitar about 50% of the time during The Black Crowes show I attended.
