If the Yardbirds come to a city near you I highly recommend checking them out . They played all the classic Yardbird songs and a few new ones too. They were loud and tight .They were true to form in the guitar style of Jeff Beck and Page and may i say even better . Johnny A , John Idan on the guitar, and Kenny Aranson on bass as well as Myke Scavone harmonica and of course Jim Mcarty on the drums were all amazing . Shape of things , Im a man , Better man than I ,Heart full of soul , For your Love , Train kept a rolling and other songs got the crowd going . A+ show

The steadily morphing persona of the Yardbirds has once again been anchored by the steadily rocking founding member Jim McCarty. It was sad to hear that Chris Dreja was no longer able to play due to health reasons. This news was offset by his replacement, the original lead guitarist and founding member Anthony "Top" Topham. Top left the group when the Yardbirds got signed to play professional gigs. At 15 years old, his parents were more concerned with his studies at Art School. 50 years later he is back in the group he helped start and sounded great trading licks with guitarist Ben King. The band covered songs from every phase of the bands original recordings. From a blueswailing version of Five Long Years to a psychedelic rave up on Happenings Ten Years Time Ago, the band kept the energy high and had the crowd mesmerized. The wonderful acoustics at BB Kings only helped to make the band sound polished and tight.

I cannot think of a single band that comes anywhere near these guys. Even though they are playing classic Yardbirds songs, this is NOT a tribute band. These musicians are for real, for now and will rock the house down wherever they play. Don't miss the opportunity if you get a chance to see them in your area. You'll be glad you did.

Yardbirds-good band but only one original Yardbird, the drummer. The band was very young but good. It was really a tribute band, rather than the original, except the drummer.

The show in Buffalo at the Tralf was missing one of the original band member that was recuperating from a medical problem. And the three "young" front men were extremely talented, fresh, and gave a "crisp" emotional performances. The songs were streaming from the stage with a gritty feel of the "spirit" in which they were conceived. It was an extremely high energy show. I loved it !

both yardbirds and vanilla fudge brought back the music when first started really listening when you are10-11 years old. listening to the radio at this age and acually remembering when you first heard these songs makes one feel young again. the new muscians of the yardbirds are very complimentary to the originals. the vanilla fudge was amazing to see after all these years.

This is nothing more than a Yardbirds tribute which is what we expected to see given that only the drummer is an original member. The guitar player was ill and could not perform. What we didn't expect was that the drummer would not address the audience and that the band assembled a bunch of "kids" to perform the music. Some age appropriate musicians who also dressed from the time period of the Yardbirds would have went a long way. Instead it was a bunch of guys dressed in workout clothing that the audience could not relate to. We left after 4 songs.

Although the band played very good and the songs were greatly nostalgic, this version of the Yardbirds was more like a Yardbirds cover band or a Yardbirds tribute band. It's hard to see how with only the original drummer intact (he must own the legal rights to the name Yardbirds) and everyone else newer and much younger (i.e. no other original members left) how they can still say they are the Yardbirds. If Ringo was the only original Beatle left and formed a band doing Beatles cover songs, would they still be the Beatles?

My husband and I did not think that this event was worth the price of the $95.00 ticket. We have seen this past year a lot better. The Beatles vs The Stones was much better and cheaper. Do wish that some people at these events would be more considerate of others. We had one guy sitting directly behind us screaming "YEAH" in our ears during the whole event. Probably had too much to drink.

I went to see The Yardbirds with this current lineup last August (2013) at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe because I have been a lifetime fan. So when they came back in June I had to go back. I wasn't disappointed. The band is tight without missing a beat in playing old favorites. Andy Mitchel's voice is right on. The new lead guitar Ben King is showing that he is becoming more comfortable in his role. The set could be a little longer, but I'm just being selfish. If they come around again I will definitely be first in line for tickets.

This was one of the best concerts we have seen in a long time. Andy Mitchell's vocals were incredible with the Yardbirds songs and Ben King more than held his own against the Yardbirds past guitarists. Jim McCarty definitely has not lost his touch and still keeps the beat going as well as he always did. It was nice to finally see an iconic band like the Yardbirds.

I was sceptical waiting for this show. Afterall, They started in 1963. The two original members were in fine form the three additions, who were born 25 years, at least, after the Yardbird's debut were excellent. This was the best band I saw at Summerfest this year. If you have a chance to see the Yardbirds, I would suggest you go.

Packed house on its feet. 2-guitar attack on top of solid bass, hot harmonica, good singer, AND A PILE DRIVING YET TASTEFUL JIM McCARTY STILL DRUMMING IN TOP FORM. BEFORE Clapton joined in 1963 they had a great 15-year-old lead guitarist & he's back: Top Topham. HUGE driving sound. Dig Topham on YouTube (topham double chordbender). Hear pre-Zep Yardbirds version of Tangerine on YT (Knowing That I'm Losing You).

I have been going to Yardbirds shows since the late 60's. I have seen enough of their incarnations to know that the Yardbirds are a classic rock/ blues band that never disappoints. That unmistakeable "train kept rollin" sound brings everyone to their feet with huge smiles on their faces. It doesn't get any better. We are so fortunate to have such a great band of this quality continue to pour themselves out to us when we are lucky enough to have them come across the pond. I will be coming to Yardbirds show as long as they keep putting them on. Plus they are just very nice folks. I am a forever fan.

I went to the Yardbirds being a lifelong fan through all incarnations. I must say this one did not disappoint. Although I would have liked to have more of the original band members, but it understandable considering who the alumni are.(Page, Beck, Clapton!!)The current line up is great, lively and they seem to enjoy each other. The South Shore Room is a small venue which is better these days than huge arenas. The band is tight and really cooked on all the classics like Smokestack Lightning!

Although I have seen the Yardbirds a number of times before, they amaze me each and every time! Each performance is new, as they consistently treat their audience to exciting arrangements and unbelievable energy. A mix of the most well known (For Your Love, Heart Full of Soul, Dazed and Confused) and the lesser known (Calling Out For Love, The Nazz Are Blue), all were delivered with power and perfection.

Trip down memory lane. For us "older" farts, the music will take you back to your early years, but still keep you in the present. Jim McCarty hold his age well and can bang a mean set of drums. Top Topham replaced Chris Dreja on rhythm guitar and was fantastic! Along with newcomers Ben King on lead (what a show), David Smale (bass) and Andy Mitchell on vocals/misc/guitar, put on one entertaining show! Definately something to see.

I saw the gang about two years ago before Chris Dreja retired, and enjoyed it entirely. This time they brought Top Topham, introduced as the very first lead guitarist for the Yardbirds before his parents pulled their young son away from that rough world, and they drafted Eric to replace him. There was a Journey concert going on across the street, so the ticket buyers for the Yardbirds were mostly my age and up, meaning 60+. Some appeared and acted as though they were still living in the 60's. Their enthusiasm was not just drug-euphoria, however, as the Yardbirds are a damn good band. While they do all of their hits, every one has been re-energized with a modern feel. They are not doing covers of their old tunes, they are a band that has played them so long and honestly that the tunes have drifted with the current of time and still feel fresh to today's tastes. Ben King is an outstanding and tasteful guitarist. The thing common to the well known guitarists of the Yardbirds is that they all spent a lot of time practicing, refusing to settle for just a repertoire of licks. All were, and are, intensely musical, emotive, and inventive. Ben King is in that model. He takes the well known notes, and turns them into scathing - or subtle - expressions. My date said he looks like he could be working for the Chippendales, but we'll ignore that for now. Andy Mitchell works his butt off singing and playing a top-shelf harmonica. Again - not singing them as covers, singing as though he's telling you his own life. Which brings us to Top Topham. I am certain most of the crowd never heard him, and wondered why he was there. Being a fan of true roots "blues" I could hear an authentic Delta Blues sound that would have been very much in keeping with the Yardbirds earliest music. He sounds as though he was channeling Hooker, with no regard for turning it up and wailing. I liked hearing what he had to play for us, but the rest of the band was wailing. Thank you Jim McCarty for keeping your group alive, up to date, and coming out where we can hear you. Damn fine work

Disclaimer!!! Been a fan since the sixties. Have heard these songs in my sleep, owned all the records, followed the bands story and the musicians that have been in the band since my teens. Have been a pro musician and guitarist since the sixties. Missed the band in the day and had to see them before I died! LOVED how Jim McCarty played the other night! That he got 'His' sound on a rental drum kit with not his own house audio engineer is a rare and beautiful thing. He nailed his drum parts and drove the band to some wonderful musical peaks. The bands 'rav-up ' jam arraignments followed the recorded versions mostly dead on. That being said, guitarist Ben King failed miserably to deliver the Iconic guitar parts that are every bit as important as singing the correct lyrics or the correct melody. I must assume he thinks 'his thing' is close enough. It is not. Or that he's too good? or too bad! - to attempt to try. Jim M needs re think here and ask himself why people bother come to see the Yardbirds? The answer might be that folks want to hear the band the way they sounded in their classic years, just with better sound and lights. Heck, even Jimmy Page played Jeff Beck's' solos on those hits note for note because he understood their importance. They were good enough for Jimmy Page but not for Ben King? Really? The band I saw sounded like an average bar band, loosely covering Yardbird songs. Also, they didn't play 'Mister You're a Better Man Than I'? but played a weak version of a 2nd tier Elmore James Style Jeff Beck B side "The Nazz are Blue" . The singer did a great job fronting and singing but sounded no where original singer Keith Relf. That was not a problem for previous singer John Idan, who nailed his voice perfectly, (check the Yardbirds CD Birdland 2004) Very good harmonica playing also. New 'original' guitarist Top Topham brought nothing to the party. No stage presence, very poor tone, and seems to be able to hardly stand and play. He's helping answer the question:' how many original members are there left" question, possibly. The Yardbirds captured the hearts and minds of a generation by performing great songs, with an original British approach to the blues, using stellar musicians, and a very defined and exciting band image. Sadly, all that's left are the songs. Could have been amazing...

The location was perfect. They even had a 60's style light show and there was a go go dancer!!! My brother and I brought earplugs, but didn't have to use them. It was plenty loud enough, but was not obnoxious like most concerts. They played a lot of the hits and favorites. The rave ups or jamming was incredible. The original live jam band did not disappoint. The musicians were all spot on. Ben King was phenomenal. Take Clapton, Beck and Page, put them in a blender, leave it on high for five minutes, and the result is Ben King! Top Topham even had some cool blues riffs. If he faced the audience once in a while it would have been better, but I understand this was only his fourth gig with the Yardbirds in the last fifty years, and was facing the band the make sure he had it right. Lead singer/harp player was better than he was a few years ago for sure.

I never got to see the Yardbirds in the 60's, so my wife and I treated ourselves, and it really was a treat! Drummer Jim McCarty was the only original member present, since Chris Dreja was ill. Still, the band managed to sound remarkably full, and did justice to the original. Singer Andy Mitchell actually is a better singer than Keith Relf, I think, and becoming a very good harp player. Guitarist Ben King, though no Jeff Beck, is quite "Respectable" if you will, and did his best to fill the gap left by the absence of Dreja. The set list was familiar to Yardbirds fans, and the band did the songs proud. Even "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago", which is a challenge to play with only one guitar, went off well. Looking around the audience, I saw many nodding, like "Yeah, these guys are good"! After more than 40 years, the band continues to show their blues roots, and not just playing the hits. This is not a tribute band, this is the real deal!

When I got tickets for the Yardbirds I didn't realize that I'd experience a fantastic evening of rock before they even came on including Blues Magoo, Canned Heat and Mark Stein. I usually get bored during warm-ups for the main act but not this time, each group was brilliant in its own right. Mark Stein did "You Keep Me Hangin On" so well people had to get up and move. Also did great Alice Cooper stuff like "School's Out for Summer" raw and real. Then the new and improved Yardbirds came out and I was totally blown away. Johnny A on guitar was brilliant as always. Played "You're a Better Man" so well. Jim McCarty on drums still going strong after all these years. Westbury is a great venue with no bad seats and draws a friendly down home crowd. I was aware that only one original member is still in the band, however, the performance was poor. The guitar player was not very good and had no feel in his playing like his predecessors, The sound was bad and frustrating. After the show I stood in line to get an autograph and a few of the members were so rude we left before meeting all of them.

Jim McCarty was the only original Yardbird at the concert. The star was the Jeff Beck look-alike guitarist who sang great and was the highlight. The band was good, the bass player was amazing but--and this is huge--this was a cover band and not the real thing. They played well but it was not like watching a vintage band play their music. I would pass on this band.

I saw this lineup earlier this year. They were a little better the last time. Idan's voice was a little raspy possibly from the previous nights free concert. Johnny A seemed a bit tired on guitar but still great. Bass player, percussionist and McCarty where great. Overall this is in my opinion the best replacement band since the oririginal performers back in the 60's.

Great music and a wonderful venue. Can't stop talking about how much I enjoyed the Rose in Pasadena. Beautiful facility and a very nice staff.

To start acoustics sucked in the place. The warm up band rocked the house, Yardbirds were too crowded
