Congratulations to the performers in Drumline Live! It was really thrilling to have such talent gathered on the stage for not just a mini half time show, but also a gospel-tent-at-Jazz-Fest performance, and a history of MoTown and HBCU marching bands. Truly spectacular. Everyone should be clarmoing already for a new tour. The bonus opportunity to meet the players afterwards made it even more special. Thanks to the crew who put this together and brought it to New Orleans.

The show was great and educational. It was not what I expected at all. The brass was amazing. And the drummers were out of this world.

Overall, I thought Drumline was very entertaining. I wish there had been more highstepping, stadium, halftime like acts. I loved the way the performers came out into the lobby of the theatre after the performance and mingled with the audience. I also loved how they allowed the children to play on their drums. I was very impressed with the humility and graciousness of the performers. I found this very refreshing. It was a wonderful evening!

Recommend for all ages, especially for the young musician. The show begins with songs from the past and ends with the present. They made sure to capture various styles of music, too. Great job!

I was really surprised at how diversified and entertaining this show was. I had no idea that it would be anything other than a spoof on the movie. How wrong was I? The tribute to Motown, (which including Diana Ross, Tina Turner, The Temptations, and Michael Jackson) the blackout with neon suits to the latest pop music, the swing music, the jazz music ,the blues, the big band, and not to mention the marching band show. Then meeting the fans in the lobby and playing for another 20 minutes. Hanging out with the students who came and talking to the kids and let them drum. Wow... What a show!

I must admit that I had no idea what the show was about. I am only sorry I did not take my grandsons. Everything was just great. The songs, the music, the audience involvement made for a truly amazing performance. I would recommend to anyone of any age. I will admit that it was loud but that is just a part of this type of music.

The show was okay. I expected it to follow the movie more or at least have a lot of music/drumming and formations than it did. The neon skit with the drums was excellent....The singing they could have left out completely - the singers weren't that good and it took away from the music. The girl dancers were also disctracting at times. A very talented group of musicians though. They should stick with the high stepping; high energy percussion that they are known and famous for.

The talent - the story - the fun - the entertainment...WOW I'm so sorry that my two teenage boys did not make the performance. I especially liked the "natural" beat, expression & interaction. I could have watched and listened for at least another hour. I was not ready for the entertainment to end.

We bought tickets expecting a take-off on the movie, and we got that. However, we got so much more. There was non-stop music, dancing and the most talented musicians assembled in one place. By far one of the greatest live music shows that I have ever attended. The show was well worth the money and very entertaining. They did tributes to motown, gospel, tina turner, james brown, caboret, swingout, blues, etc....plus performances from the movie drumline. Its a must see!!!!!

The majority of the show had very little to do with drums. There were dedications to Motown music, Michael Jackson's music, gospel music, big band music and rap music but not very much marching band music. The show was very random and disjointed as it jumped from subject to subject. The Motown part was very disappointing as the cast attempted to impersonate some of the big stars of that era, a very tough task for even the most talented. When the whole cast played the music was good but other than the trumpet solo and the drum battle between two exceptional drummers the talent just didn't stand on its own. The next to the last act finally brought out the marching band music.....it could have been so much better had they simply emphasized their strengths instead of trying to cover too much area.

Let me start by saying that my fiance LOVES the drumline movie, so we went to see this with high expectations. What we got was MAYBE 15 minutes of "drumline-ish" performance, and 1.5 hours of Black History Month. With reviews on their own site saying things like "a marching band extravaganza that parades out of the football stadium onto the stage" and " puts the black marching band tradition on the theatrical stage " I felt like a lot of false advertising was used. It started with a scene from Africa, talking about the very first drum. To which we jokingly looked at eachother and said "I dont remember this from drumline" but I could see the connection they were making (drumline, the very first drum). However this type of feeling continued the entire play. We waited and waited for the "drumline" scenes to start, but to no avail. We were taken thru motown music, swing music, modern music, spongebob squarepants theme song (really), and even (as they said) "black church" gospel scenes. There was even a 10-ish minute scene where all they did was talk (no scene, just a recording and a powerpoint presentation) about Historically Black Colleges and Univercities. All the while it was obnoxiously loud. At 23 years old i should not have to physically plug my ears to avoid pain at your theater.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. The tributes to past performers, the dancers, the subtle comedy and the fact that they were dressed like the actors in the movie made it all tie together. The drum battle and when they played actual songs from the movie were some of my favorites. I would definetly see this again!

Very good show but expected more drumline and less marching band. All of the advertisements showed drumline photos and videos so was a little disappointed with the minimal amount of percussion. The musicians were all very good and the overall show was enjoyable.

Low expectations with unbelievable results! I took my wife and daughter because she is in flag line at her HS and enjoys anything band related. I had reviewed the video used for advertisement on the Chandler Center for the Arts website and in retrospect it does the show injustice. It felt like I was at a rock concert! The energy in the show jumped into the audience and it was mayhem and fun from start to finish!! I can't say enough about the show and how well it was done. Just amazing.

Was sort of expecting a traditional Drumline type of performance but got much more. Was impressed with the way they depicted evolution of the drum in music history and the variety of ways in performance it was used. The variety of music and themes played and used was awesome! Some good comedy was added to numerous skits and made for some great laughs. Extremely talented performers.

If you wanted to see Drumline to see the wonderful marching talents of the bands where these performers originated, you will be very disappointed. It is a historical music and dance review of African-American music. At that it is just fine.

Most of the show was a review of the past 100 years or so of music, with little to do with drums. The musical recreations were mostly average with some high moments. However, I was expecting a lot more drum action and demonstration than what was shown. The few drum parts that made it were really fantastic.

When the horns were blowing or the drums were pounding, it was great. But since they felt they had to fill up 2 hours worth of time, there was a lot of filler that really had no business being in the show. The tribute to Motown was almost painful to watch.

Drumline Live took me back to my HBCU days in the band and on the campus of Morgan State University. My daughter attends there now and is planning on joining the band. My youngest daughter loves the band performing and hopefully will join the band when she starts her college education. I think the performers were excellent, especially Marcus, the announcer and the lady dancers. It was also great to know what HBCUs the performers attended and that they were the real deal, not just actors. Let them "rep" their school with shirts, so we can give our schools a shout out! The only thing I would suggest is that they sell commemorative items and recruit more women who play instruments in the band, since there was only one. I was also glad to see a very diverse crowd at the sold out show. I just wish it would have stayed longer or come back again to Baltimore!

Drumline Live was an incredible show. Having multiple acts allowed it to be a show that appealed to all ages. The history on HBCU's was awesome, it took us back to our roots and gave us a sense of pride. The Motown act took us down memory lane and considering I brought a 61, 66, and 72 yr old they were excited. The Gospel act brought in an element that touched our soul, which meant the producers intentionally revived us spiritually. We all thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.Thanks for allowing me to give my older family a wonderful night out. A night they'll be talking about for a long time.

The performers were amazingly multi-talented. The show was a tribute of sorts to soul music, and its influence, through the decades. A small portion of the show even involved current hip hop, which surprised and amused my teenage son. All-in-all a good family night out. Note that the female dancers are somewhat scantily clad at times, but not inappropriately so unless you are very sensitive. The costumes are typical of marching band dancers. I was VERY impressed with the performer who impersonated Aretha Franklin and sang with "Ray Charles".

Drumline was the best show that I have ever been to. My son is a marching band enthusiast and he loved this amazing show. The talent and energy the musicians showed was incredible. The show explained the history behind the development of black music in this country and we got to hear all kinds of different music from African, to jazz, motown, hip hop ......We had seats on the aisle and my son loved high fiving and seeing the band as they came out into the audience. After the show they hung out in the lobby to talk to guests and have pictures taken.

Highly entertaining show from start to finish. Loved the wide range of musical genres presented along with the power and energy of the HBCU marching band style. It was a most enjoyable evening, and I would see it again.

The age range in my group was 3-61. Everyone had a great time and learned a bit of HBCU history as well. Money well spent for a family night out.

My son who is 14 has been in the band in school since 4th grade. He lately has been completely interested in drum cadance. When I saw that Drum Line Live was going to be in town, I was thrilled to get tickets for me and him. Unfortunately, the show was nothing that he or I expected it to be. We thought for sure that drum cadance would be a big feature part of the show. And the BEST part was when the two guys had the "battle" on the drum. There were too many parts that we thought were strange and not exciting at all. I'm sorry to say that if we knew what the show was before we went, I wouldn't have gotten tickets.

The show had a little bit of everything. Music, story, dancing, comedy. Fun for every age. Would love to see it again. You get to meet the cast after the preformance. Just a wonderful night out with the entire family. More then worth it.

really enjoyed this show. my family and i are fans of the movie, and they brought elements of the film as well as lot of other stuff. music from several generations was brought to life and thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd. crowd was mixed in age from school students to older folks. lots of fun. great music, great display of musicianship. and my kids loved it. afterwards the cast greeted everyone in the lobby on the way out, posed for pictures, shook hand, played music. just a great and very festive time. we'll be back next time they are in town.
