Ottmar Liebert

Had seats in the left upper and the way they positioned Ottmar could hardly see him - he was definitely not placed in the center of the stage. But other than not being able to see him the staff is very friendly and helpful and the music was a great way to finish the week off. Ottmar is an awesome guitarist.

I went to this event as a main attraction on my trip to NY. Ass soon I know I was traveling to NY I check on Ottmar s live performance schedule and I can be more glad to find out that he was going to be there at BB kings. At once I get my tickets and wait to that great moment\u2026!!! Music travels long distances and touches many people. I was happy to travel a long way to see by my self one of the best musicians I ever know in my life.

I enjoyed the Ottmar Liebert concert musically. The 1st set was good but the second set was outstanding. What disappointed me was the venue. I paid for seating in the floor area in front of the stage. The seating was cramped and the seats themselves were folding chairs, very uncomfortable. Add those two factors to a poorly working air conditioning systems and it was not the most pleasant of conditions. Additionally, there was a constant hum of noise, voices and other distractions that the musicians may or may not have been aware of, but I was, and found it very distracting. Evidently, the House of Blues sold a number of SRO tickets and the area where those people were is where most of the noise and talking seemed to be coming from. For those folks, it was just a night at the bar with the local band playing and they had come there to socialize. In the final analysis, I will pay to see Ottmar again but would much rather see him in the Verizon or some other venue that is less like a honky-tonk. In the old days if I wanted to honky-tonk, there was always the Esquire Ballroom.

Ottmar was awesome. Clean, crisp sound; just awesome. I love the House Blues venue, but there were too many people talking and laughing in the SRO areas during this show. The sound guys tried to crank up the sound during the 2nd portion of the show (which I really appreciated), but the party crowd should have went to Pete's Dueling Piano Bar instead of this concert. It wasn't limited to the standing room only group though. A guy in front of us wouldn't stop talking to his date, which I don't really fault him. However, he could have whispered (he was disturbing everyone around him). It would have given him an opportunity to get close to her and allowed us to give Ottmar proper attention. Overall, the concert was great and I will be back to the House of Blues for another concert (and can not wait). One last thing; we love the seats on the floor level.

The MUSIC was wonderful and I plan on going to see him again. I will not be returning to The House Of Blues. It was HOT, the seats were on a level way below the stage and placed to extend past a wall. You could not really see very well. There was a door that was "for Employee's Only" that was right in front of our seats. Any time someone came out of there or went in a light shined into our eyes. It was EXTREMELY disruptive. There is also a bar area in the back, it was VERY noisy, so, there was background noise through out the concert. People were "shushing" the people in the bar...it was BAD. Ottmar's music is Terrific and the voices and noise was RUDE. No more House of Blues for me or my friends!

We really enjoyed Ottmar's show and the House of Blues setting. Hopefully he comes back to Houston soon again, as we will do our best to be there!!!

Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra were perfect. They played gorgeously. While it was hard for me to distinguish one song from another, the music created a mood that left me feeling peaceful and relaxed.

Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra NEVER fail their audience. They seem to enjoy entertaining as much as I enjoyed watching their performance. Bravo!!

The show was great! Ottmar and Luna Negra put on a great show! I did not like the SRO part of the venue though and will never do that again. People talked the whole time...loud..., people invaded my personal space..bumping me with purses, etc. The sound system at the House of Blues in Houston is WONDERFUL!!! No matter where you are seated (or standing), it sounds good, and the sound is equally disbursed throughout the building. Overall, I would see Ottmar Leibert again, and am listening to him while typing this. I like to belly dance to some of his music, but will not do a standing room only!! His live performance sounded as good as it does on the cd. The sound quality was phenom! He played for an hour, took a break and came back and played for another hour.

The stage set up at HOB was perfect for this show. There was lots of up front floor seating which put all the noisy, standup folks in the back. There were no distractions between me and the stage and the group did not disappoint. Every member is truely a master of their instrument. The live sound was better than any recording. By the end of the show I was mesmerized.

Absolutely Awesome!! Except for the idiots in the back that obviously bought the tickects because they happen to be in the area or on business and just wanted to go to a concert and didnt have a clue who the artist was. I actually enjoyed his first set more than the second but both were more than i expected. Awesome!!

Watching Ottmar play live was a dream come true since I bought one of his tapes in in 1992.... His band is amazing, professional players full of passion and music knowledge. I just missed his long hair!

The faithful were treated to another polished performance by Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra last evening at the House of Blues in Dallas. The Luna Negra line-up included veterans Jon Gagan (bass + keyboards) and Stephen Duros (Flamenco + electric guitars, keyboard); new to the Dallas audience were Michael Chavez (drumkit + percussion) and Rusty Knorr (percussion). Liebert was, as always, barefooted and in fine form. The material from his latest release, The Scent of Light, was as well-received as were old favorites, such as the set-opening "Snake Charmer." The ensemble's musicianship is outstanding and all were given ample opportunity to shine, weaving their contributions seamlessly, playing off one another in call-response, and soloing. Seeing a drum kit on the stage was definitely unexpected but Chavez, while apparently quite young, is thoroughly accomplished and his contributions were enjoyed by all - beginning with Ottmar himself. Acoustically, the HoB is well-suited for the material and the crowd OL + LN draws; it is unfortunate a bar is situated in the same space, as the (apparently obligatory for Dallas concerts) loud drunk chick was in the house.

I have been listening to Ottmar Liebert's music for over 15 years and this was the first time I have seen him live. It was truly a joy to become one with the music of Ottmar and Luna Negra. Every person felt as if he was playing only to them. It was the most intimate of music experiences that I will never forget. The strings of Ottmar's guitar were truly magic last night.

These beautiful and intoxicating Latin rhythms transported me to a place far beyond my imagination last night. The concert was amazing!! Non stop Ottmar at his best playing his new favorites as well as taking you back to twenty years ago, reminding you of what attracted you to his music in the first place. The drummer gave an outstanding performance and wowed the crowd. What a refreshing vision to have Ottmar on stage barefoot, eyes closed during most of the performance! One could tell he was just feeling the music with such passion and conveying it to the audience. 5 Stars!!!

This was a great concert, Ottmart Liebert was amazing and the folks of Luna Negra where Top Notch. I would definetly recommend it. Also the House of Blues was a great spot to have this concert at. I am definetly going back to the HoB.

Liebert plays guitar beautifully with amazing ease & grace. His passion shines through in every moment on stage. Although not much of a talker, when he did address the crowd he was cordial and in good humour. And his playing ability is unbelievable. His band, Luna Negra, is also incredible. The performers included another guitarist, a bassist, one person at a drum set who also playedother percissive instruments, and one percussionist (no drums). They were very tight and in sync, not to mention extremely gifted on their respective instruments. Employing some jazz structures, each member of the band was allowed to show his chops without becoming the focus of the show, and allways falling back into time as a cohesive unit. Great show!

This was my 3rd time seeing Ottmar live, and I have to say that this was his best performance yet. He and the band moved through the songs so effortlessly... not to mention, his rendition of older songs, kept them fresh and interesting, and the new material left nothing to be desired... Truly amazing!!!

Ottmar and Luna Negra are phenomenal. It's pure music; a no frills FILL of musicianship.

Nueve Flamenco is dead ! I came to get more energy and emotions. Instead it was hour and half funeral meditation. I respect artist's feelings and other blay-blay issues, but if you invited people you must give them performance and ENTERTAINMENT ! Boring, I left before the end and a lot of other funs even earlier !

Great concert.. Can't wait to see him perform again!

Had been looking forward to seeing him for quite awhile, and looking forward to the next time he's in town. Loved his versions of Bob Marley's , Waiting in Vain, Could You Be Loved, and Jammin' . A guitar master without a doubt.

I got the tickets for my parents and they had a great time at the performance. They own one of his Flamenco CD and was hoping to hear it but learned that Ottmar is more toward Raggae Music Now which they still enjoyed. Toward the end my Mother bought his new CD and my dad enjoyed listening and watching The Group of Four playing -There are no dancers - Just Musicians playing with their hearts.

Ottmar Liebert while playing was in zone all to himself, with eyes closed and never once looked to see where the strings were. Amazing songs, all players (bass, drums and keyboard) was like they were just relaxed and enjoying the "jam" session.

Ottmar was great and the venue was perfect. The combination of some of his old music mixed with the new yielded a fantastic evening.

Love his music. Puts me in a trance. I hate to give him a 4 but I just did not like the Bob Marley songs (at least 2-3) that he played. Stick to your own songs. I wanted to listen to Liebert not Marley.

The concert itself was amazing! Ottmar and his band were phenomenal. However, the seats were rather uncomfortable, being folding chairs on the floor, quite tightly packed together. Also, there were people at the bar who talked during the entire concert and were never asked to hold their voices down for the benefit of those listening to the concert. Otherwise, it was really wonderful.

I was really disappointed with the songs he played. My group and I were waiting all night to hear the songs he was famous for and he ended up doing a brief medley of them.

I have been a fan for over ten years. I left at 10:00 not knowing whether Luna Negra was going to go on. I was hoping for some announcements.

Ottomar and Luna Negra are exceptional performers. The music was awesome. The theater has great sound quality.

The individual performers are talented. The only thing missing was the Flamenco dancer. There is sparse parking at this particular venue. Watch out for the tire booter.

Ottmar Liebert and his duo, Luna Negra, played a variety of his familiar themes and tunes with some improvizations. Light, romantic music and a perfect summer concert. I've been a fan for many years and it was great to hear him perform in person.

Ottmar and his band played a lot of thrilling, upbeat music. His arrangements were very nice but as the evening wore on he seemed to repeat the sound more and more.

Venue: Fantastic, felt like stepping back in time. Lots of leg room in the aisles, ushers everywhere, and the best acoustics I've heard at any venue thus far. Ottmar: Incredible. His guitar playing can easily shift from flamenco to funk. Bass player: Precise. His timing was impeccable. Percussionist: Explosive. He maintains a cool and calm demeanor but can easily explode into a percussive wonderland of rhythms and sounds.

I have followed OL & Luna Negra since 1994 and own every disc he has produced. Probably have seen them over a dozen times in a variety of venues. Never have been disappointed until now. OL is disengaged and plays now like a robot. Although never much of a talker, he now barely addresses the audience accept for introducing the band. Didn't play any classics expect in a nontraditional format that few would recognize. Before the single encore (comprised of only one song), multiple guests had already departed early (never seen that before at his shows). Overall a boring show that lacked emotion except for the percussionist's solo. If you think I'm being harsh, simply watch some old clips of former concerts on YouTube and marvel at the difference.

I've been enjoying Ottmar's music since 1993! He is a brilliant musician and with Luna Negra, it is a perfect mesh of musical talent. Loved every minute of it and Parker Playhouse was the perfect venue.

Enjoyable evening with pleasant surprises with mini-solos by Ottmar's bandmates. Both of whom had CDs for sale, picked up one from each plus both of Ottmar's new albums. First set was with the standup bass and square drum that Chris sat on and played (I forget the name of it). Then after the intermission, they switch to different instruments. Second set seemed to run longer than the first. Would have been great to have a 3rd set :-) since I enjoy their music so much. Originally saw Ottmar in South Florida maybe 10 years ago. Their relaxed style goes hand in hand with the relaxing music. It's a treat to hear these instruments because you can really hear each one individually and clearly, nothing competing or running over each other. Enjoyable evening.

If you like the flamenco style, but want to hear/see something more modern that can give you a little rhythm and a little grove, then this is a good version of this band to see. Ottmar is more or less a virtuoso and his bass player and percussionist are very talented themselves. They trade off and play together and it was a very enjoyable show. The venue is intimate and it makes a show like this really nice.

I have been a fan for years and enjoyed the music, but they did not play enough variety. Liebert's playing was consistently good, but Jon Gagan on the bass was amazing, as was the Chris Steele on percussion. However, I would have liked to hear some of covers that he has done, such as Paint It Black, Little Wing, or Samba Pa Ti. I've enjoyed Liebert's take on those great songs and it would have been fun to see them performed live.

Ottmar and his co-players are great and innovative musicians, but showman they are not!

Long, boring and monotonous. Every song sounded the same. No interaction with audience. I felt isolated. No songs that everyone could identify with.

A little contemplative for my tastes this time around, but his musicianship remains outstanding, and the latest iteration of Luna Negra ably filled in the slow spots. A little more changeup in the tempos would have improved the sets.

I know it's billed as Luna Negra, but it was just a quartet. Percussionist, bass player and horn player backing Liebert. Great hour and a half show highlighting his career with some new songs added as well. Want a nice chill evening? Go see Ottmar

You may not get much as a visual spectacular,but what you do get is a spectacular feast for your ears.Ottmar Libert and his accompanying Luna Negra Band set an artistic escape thru music to wherever you want the music to take you.His work is astounding and beautiful.I would recommend Ottmar Liebert for anyone who can appreciate this New Age / Instrumental and his Enchanting Guitar.Five Stars***** Highly Recommend.

It was one of the best concerts I've been too as of late. We saw him at Club Nokia, which is fairly small and intimate. I love his music, we play it in our backyard every weekend. To hear and see it in person was an awesome experience.

Ottmar Liebert's music is described as "nouveau flamence". It's nouveau-nouveau. It's a heartpounding, soulful mix of Spainish guitar (Flamenco), Jazz, Bossa Nova, and a dash of heavy metal. Rhythym and more rhythym!

Ottmar Liebert showed that he can still perform with amazing skill. His band Luna Negra also had incredible talent. You could tell that they love doing what they do.

Never thought we would ever get the opportunity to see Ottmar much less at a venue as personal as the Canyon in Santa Clarita. His performance was even better than we anticipated. Magical night for us.

I am so glad I went to the Amaturo Theater in Ft. Lauderdale and saw Ottmar Liebert perform. The venue itself was exceptional. There is not a bad seat in the house. Amaturo is more intimate than the larger Au Rene Theater next door. It provided just the right atmosphere for Liebert's mellow tones. The artist is amazing! I was surprised to see him perform in his bare feet! His artistry with the guitar is unparalleled. The music has elements of flamenco and jazz blended with a Latin/Caribbean beat. It is instantly recognizable as vintage Ottmar Liebert. The music took me to faraway places and mellow, happy times. His bassist and drummer were equally up to the task of accompanying him. Liebert left them free to solo and shine in their own right. If you find him playing anywhere nearby, you must catch a performance! 5 stars without hesitation!

Ottmar played five or maybe six songs quite well, one encore and departed. Sad, very sad.

My wife and I are fans of Ottmar Liebert for many years. We finally witnessed an amazing performance at the ponte vedra concert halll.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Ottmar Liebert concert at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall! The music was fantastic, as we knew it would be, but the venue surprised us! It was intimate, yet a nice size, with an area for refreshments before the concert. Parking was easy. And the acoustics were great, making the music even better! We look forward to a chance to return again soon!

This is the third time that my wife and I have seen Ottmar Liebert, twice in California and once in Florida. This is music for the soul ... words can not do justice.

I have seen Ottmar & Luna Negra now for the 3rd time, never disappoints, evening had cooled off to make it comfortable to be outside and seating was great... always enjoy good shows at the Libbey bowl and this was one of them.

Drums and base gutar made it hard to hear Otmars playing.

My ticket said the performance would begin at 6:00 p.m., but we were told at the event - at 6:30 - that the performance would begin at 7:00. Curiously people were still wandering in at 6:50, so where did they find out the change in performance time? Aside from that, Ottmar Liebert and La Luna Negra were great. a 90 minute show including a bass solo and a drum solo. Heard many favorites and new material. At one point I said to my wife that one of the songs sounded like Bob Marley's "Jammin'". Turns out that is what it was, but with an Ottmar Flamenco treatment. Mid-evening temperatures had been in the high 80's and low 90's for over a week before the concert. That Sunday night they dropped considerably, there was cloud cover and the almost full moon kept peeking through the clouds. A very nice evening well spent in Libbey Bowl in Ojai.

Not even a wink or a nod that the opening show didn't show up. Yep, it was hot. We were there as was the rest of the audience. So where was the opener, or at the very least, Ottmar could have mentioned something and done an extra song or two (he's a man of few words, didn't even have a mic on a stand to speak) Speaking of not speaking, Ottmar didn't connect with the audience. No comments, no thank you's, no stories of how he got to this place in his life or where his music comes from. He only spoke once to introduce the bass player and the percussionist, who, in my opinion stole the show! I still like his music, but it now has less soul, less interest, less personality, kinda like Ottmar.

Seeing Ottmar Liebert at Libbey Bowl was a memorable experience! Libby Bowl in Ojai is a venue not to be missed...Excellent acoustics, natural ambience, and a view of the moon and sky that is like no other! Already have plans to return, and cannot wait to treat ourselves to this jewel of a setting again!!! And then there is Ottmar's performance...his playing superb, his presence...phenomenal! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I have seen Ottmar several times and this was his best performance by far! Everything seemed to click. He had the same percussionist and bass player and they were great also. Ottmar comes to play and not talk. He only had one time that he introduced the other two and explained a little about the coming numbers, otherwise it was one song after another. Good venue and a great crowd. I did not see one person get up and leave during the performance, which is unheard of. Only thing was the cocktail service was a little too often coming down the aisles. Could have done without seeing them every 10 minutes.

The show was great, just the flaminco guitar, bass and fantastic purcussionist. To bad the venue, Sunset Station was below par, the place stank like cigarette smoke badly, eyes burned, clothes and hair stank afterwards. If you prefer his acoustic playing, go see him this tour.

just like his name on the title, His performance proof he still has his skills. one of the best. but the venue set on Rose wasn't impressive enough. The food was expensive and the place wasn't great. restroom is dirty etc..the ticket is also pricey. it should have cost less so people can fill the place.

This is the second time I've seen Ottar Liebert and his show is always wonderful. His music is special and his guitar playing is remarkable. The birchmere is my favorite place for concerts. I've seen rock, folk, big bands and acoustic concerts. The acoustics and great. The free parking is great. The food is very good. The shows start on time and end at a reasonable hour. Very important for those of us who work in the morning.

Ottmar Liebert is a fantastic guitar player and the accompanying bassist and drummer are equally exceptional. He plays a acoustic set, no singing. His guitar skills and emotion put into the songs are without parallel.

One of our favorite "fusion" guitarists had another great performance at one of our favorite venues--Birchmere. The selection was ample and varied, and the playing, as always, marvelous. While always adequate, this time the percussionist was also a star of the show. Our only gripe was that Ottmar never seems to sign stuff afterwards. I know not everyone can do crowds, but he must know how many folks would love to get a little closer, and Birchmere is the ideal venue for this, being both big and small enough to accommodate a few dozen folks. I've got almost a dozen albums awaiting some ink! Pls let him know.

No autotune, no computerized drums, no choreography, no back up dancers, just true talent. Ottmar and his band were simply magnificent.

Ottmar Liebert is/was amazing. Music is lovely and filled with light and passion. My only complaint is that it was too short. See him anywhere if you can.

I didn't expect the level of performance to be as high as it was, but Luna Negra is a remarkable quartet of players. Ottmar Liebert has created a wonderful canvas of sounds. The sound, by the way, was everything the audience or performers could hope for.

This was my first time to see them. I well definitely see them again.

Fabulous. Ottomar's playing was so fine. Jon on bass made made the most incredible sounds. Sometimes it sounded like an oboe and others like a horn. The percussionist, Chris Steele, again played some sounds that I have not heard before that were perfect with the other's playing.

This was my first time to see Ottmar live. He certainly has to be one of the World's great guitarists.

His performance at the majestic theater was worth every penny. It's amazing that music that good could come from 3 people. He was unforgettable as well as the beauty of the Majestic theater only added to such a special evening. The acoustics were perfection.

I go to see Ottmar and his band whenever they are in the San Antonio/Austin area. As usual they did not disappoint. The band sounded great and the "Majestic Theater" helps to make it a special event. Check them out next time they are in town !!!

Great artist, great sound, great venue. The request for no photography was helpful in keeping the theatre dark allowing us to concentrate on the artists and music (I was able to really notice the few times that people broke the rules with their iPhones, but the request kept it to a minimum). Also, this was a good concert for me in the handicapped section because it was mellow music that people sat down for the majority of the time (at some concerts like for rock bands people stand up and I can't see). Anyway, great show and great theatre with helpful and friendly ushers. Thanks!

He is unbelievably talented. What an evening! I saw him 17 years ago at Laurie audiorium and this concert was just as good. Luna Negra is the perfect compliment to hIs amazing style.

We were just delighted with the evening's entertainer and his 2 accompanist. Your theater is so beautiful ... we appreciate that the 1929 structure has been refurbished/maintained so elegantly. I've been buying Ottmar's CDs for about 20 years but never had the opportunity to see him before. I live in Houston but had been in San Antonio the week before and happened to see the marquis with his name on it so I arranged to return for his concert. Thank you for providing such wonderful entertainment for us!!!

To describe Ottmar's performance as amazing would be an understatement. It was without a doubt...the evening of a lifetime. He plays with his heart and soul, you as the audience feel every chord that he strums. What a night!

Love the CD's but in person is beyond terrific!! The new song played just before break was so new he had not titled it -- exciting to hear a NEW not yet recorded piece from the group was exciting. Best of all --group did an ENCORE!!! Soooo glad I purchased orchestra seats!!!!

The music was absolutely fantastic!! The venue was great except it was freezing cold in the balcony. They didn't advertise that the floor was going to be a seating area (they set chairs instead of people standing), otherwise I'd have bought there. Also, the sound was ok but when we went downstairs we realized how much better the sound was there.

Ottmar Liebert is one of those underrated Flamenco guitarists who always puts on a great show.! I will always be in attendance whenever he comes to town. He doesn't say much, instead he and the band simply play their music, which is always great for any lover of music (no time wasted on other unrelated things). I only wish he would have played a few more songs. The ad-lib by the artists was nice, but it total only about 8 or 9 songs were played. It would have been nice to here 2 - 3 more songs, with less ad-lib.

The venue and the sound were great. Really enjoyed the evening.

My wife and I, having one of his CDs, decided to see him last Saturday. After a great HOB dinner, we went upstairs to our seats in the balcony. There we waited....and waited....and waited. Finally, one hour late, a trio, led by a bald-headed, bare-footed individual meandered onto the stage and sat down and started to play. There was no "Hello Houston, good to see you. Thank you for coming." They just sat down and started to play. The barefooted guy was Ottmar Liebert. Seriously?? Barefoot?? I would expect this in a bluegrass festival in the Tennessee back-country, but not here. The music was boring, one chord strummed repeatedly until changing to another chord with an occasional 5 or 6 note riff before returning to the same initial chord. I was thinking "Where is Eddy van Halen or some other guitar player?". After 3 pieces, Liebert finally spoke to the audience, only to advise that the three pieces were from their new CD and that they "did not have time to name them." All of this in a voice that sounded like it was in the throes of a demerol high. They played one more piece and then of all things, took an intermission. After only four pieces and less than 40 minutes, an intermission. My wife and I departed. One star is being generous.

Was a wonderful show. Scratch this one off my bucket list.
