The venue (location) was beautiful. The production itself (acting, lighting, choreography, set, etc.) was wonderful, but the storyline was far from Biblical. It had the same characters, but the writer took many liberties with the story itself.

Was not sure Ted Neely was the right man for the role,BUT ended up thinking he was amazing! He put everything he had into the role and I truly felt his angst! I am still hearing the songs in my head after 4 days..the cast had great voices. AND I loved how it was directed.

First of all Ted Neeley is an increadibal performer, the rest of the cast , vocals were strong and on key. the acting was great, I saw JC S S. last year and I did not think they could top it. When I saw that they were coming around again I had to go, especially beeing his farewell tour. To my suprise they some how did it. Topped last years performance. After seein g that I had to see it again. so I got tickets for the Scranton PA show, two hours plus from were I live in NJ, and it was even better. Im a forty year old Tattoo artist/ Metal Head,I have allways loved the movie and the music , Andrew Loid Webber and Tim Rice are giniuses and wrote a musical that can stand up with the times. To be able to see it with Ted Neeley was an honor and a unforgetable experience.

saw the production in San Francisco (about 15 years ago) wish this one was the same caliber seems like they have gone with a less expensive version... one of the apostles wearing a "jacket"...??? I don't think so change in "Pilot" an improvement...change in "Herod's scene" - NOT The focus which leaves the audience uplifted etc, is on the "Resurrection" not the crucifixion...the moaning etc. with the JC Superstar song being sung before the death was anticlimatic...

I saw Jesus Christ Superstar in 1971 in San Diego. It was absolutely fabulous then, so I was afraid I would be very critical of this production. Very impressive show this time around too. The actors playing Judas and Mary were beautiful singers as well as the rest of the cast. My only disappointment was Ted Neeley who portrayed Jesus. His voice didn't quite seem right on. But considering that the other characters were great seemed to overshadowed his shortcomings. All in all, I would recommend this production to others. I took my son with me this time around, and he was very impressed.

I thought it was great. Neely certainly has aged well. I originally saw the first tour in El Paso, Tx. The production has remained true to itself. I took my wife, who had never seen it and she thought is was very moving and agreed that Neeley's performance was amazing as was the rest of the production.

Awesome experience for our family! Such an incredibly full, resonant sound from such a small troupe of performers!! Usually there is one singer that "stands out" as being a favorite, but this group is FULL of stellar voices...it was such a wonderful evening for us!! I'd go again!

The only disappointing thing about this performance was the star. The sets were good, lighting and choreography well done, costumes ok. Singing of the supporting cast was excellent- Judas, Caiphus, Mary Magdalene, Peter especially, but all were good. Unfortunately, Ted Neeley who played Jesus seemed to be trying to channel the screaming rock stars of the 70's. When he backed off the screaming and sang, it was very good. His acting was good, the crucifixion scene in particular. However, he lapsed into the screaming at the climactic moments - it was incredibly distracting. I've heard this part done very well without the "rock god" attitude- it can be done.

While Ted Neely does not sing quite as powerfully as he used to, he can still hit it. Mary was fantastic. Judas and Caiaphas were both very good. All in all, a real delight!

This was my second time seeing this musical. The first time was in 1972. Back then I was not old enough to really appreciate what I had seen. This production not only exceeded my expectations but brought me to tears. Ted Neeley's portrayal of Christ was nothing but spectacular and his voice goes beyond description...what a range he has! Sarah Hanlon as Mary Magdalene and John Twiford as Judas where exceptional as well...they pulled you into the full emotion of the last days of Christ. I could comment on every member of the cast, as not one castmember disappointed..I don't think there's enough space! The movie was good but I am hoping all who have seen it go to this stage production because it is so much more moving, inspirational and uplifting. Bravo!

I was in my early 20's when JCS was first released as a movie starring Ted Neeley. So I had my reservations about this version. But I was totally amazed by his voice. This was the best "replay" of JCS. And getting to see Ted Neeley in person as JC was excellent. The entire cast was excellent. It's hard not to want to sing along or dance in the aisles. It's a MUST see for everyone! You will not be disappointed by JCS.

I had always wanted to see the musical but living where i do, i thought i would never get the chance. It was AWESOME. Ted Neely was great. Beautiful music, Beautiful voices, everything was just beautiful. I am never speechless, but after seeing this, i was just blown away, there was nothing i could say to describe how great this event was. I am so glad Bismarck is finally getting these types of event in town. I'd love to see more. Thank you to the cast and musicians of JCST for coming here and to the people who made it possible for them to be here. thank you

Slightly disappointing. Saw the presentation in Fargo approximately 4 years ago and thought it was excellent. This presentation seemed to drag. Singers were not top notch. Ted Neeley was good, however, not his best performance. Age may be a factor. People leaving were not raving with excitement. Disappointing considering the miles we drove to see a spectacular performance.

Jesus Christ Superstar was a great performance. Unfortunately, the weather in ND is different daily and we had a storm and it was tough to get there...half of our party didn't make it as they were 150 miles away further than what we were but we took a chance and made it. I grew up with the music and movie and it holds a special place in my heart and was fortunate to have the opportunity to go on Ted Neeley's final tour.

The energy was there! The voices excellent! The story well told! Thank you for this wonderful piece of art. When Christ was speaking to God about giving up His life, I felt a gut wrenching feeling inside due to His voice, His pain, and the light show. Even though the ending was done well, I wasn't quite sure that the musical had ended. I waited for a grand recession or "larger" music or something different than what I saw. Overall, it was excellent, well worth the price of the ticket, a memory not to be forgotten.

The actor who played Judas was FABULOUS! Amazing voice and by far the best. I also thought that the actor who played Simon was fantastic as well. The entire cast was very professional and outstanding. People all around us were texting and filming the show and I wish the ushers from the theatre would have been paying attention and not allowed this because it was causing a distraction to both the people sitting around them and also the cast.

Everyone was great, cast, staff, ushers, etc. would have been a little better if Jesus could have hit higher notes, Put more emotion into it. But all in all, it was great and I hope to be there again next year. Also, having the cast up and down the aisle so often was a little distracting.

I was so excited to see my family's Easter tradition last night, Jesus Christ Superstar at the Keswick. Why don't they do it every year?? However a lot was changed, I miss the one woman singer who sings with Caphias, the Mary was not like the last one and didn't have any emotions, but as always my cousin and I look forward to seeing the same Judas and Jesus and watching the big Superstar dance at the end. Such an Easter treat, but I wish they kept they same staging as last time.

Okay, not his literal grave. But if poor Mr. Neeley had seen this farce of a production, I'm pretty sure he would have dropped dead from the shock of seeing the atrocity that was passed off to the audience as a professional performance of JCS. Yes, it was that bad. The problems started early on, with Judas' "Too Much Heaven...", and got progressively worse from there. He started the song 4 words into the lyrics, because his voice was completely inaudible at the onset. And this was just the beginning of the issues in the sound department. The rest of the show continued this way-- with voices being muffled, screeching feedback at multiple times during the show, uneven sound levels (leaving one word inaudible, while the next was ear-piercingly loud), and a host of other sound issues. It was so bad at one point that during an exchange between Pilot and Jesus, it seems Jesus' microphone went completely out (leaving Jesus unable to reply), as the cast fumbled then tried to catch up to the music to disguise this sophomoric lapse of technical abilities from the sound crew. To add insult to injury, the usher informed me that they were well aware of sound problems from the previous evening's show as well. Then hopefully added that, "Maybe it'll get better for the second act?". Oh, optimistic little usher boy, it was not to be so. It'd be too exhaustive to both reader and author to describe in detail, the remainder of the flaws and flubs of this show. So here's a quick overview of the rest of the "lowlights": Simon the Zealot lacking all zeal, then falling down the middle of the set piece, choreography that would make the stage mother's on Toddlers & Tiaras cringe, Judas was incapable of doing any amount of 'acting' outside of grabbing his pant crotch a few times (to express his displeasure?), costuming and stage designs that look like they were borrowed from the local grade-school, and a hyper-venilating Jesus that seemed to go into panic attacks so often, that I wanted to give him a paper bag to breathe into. Pontius Pilot (Ben Vereen) was good, when you could hear him. And a granny sitting in front of me smacked an unsupervised kid, that was repeatedly using his cellphone during the performance. Those were the most entertaining points of the evening.

This was one of the WORST performances I've ever paid to watch. It was at the Wortham Center - usually watch events at The Hobby Center - won't go back to Wortham. The music was so loud that you couldn't hear the singers. The dancers were overweight, under-talented (I know, not a word), didn't know the choreography and the chorus performers were not equipped with adequate mics, etc... The ONLY highlight was Ben Vereen. He was magnificient. I feel badly for him to be associated with such a horrible production. He deserved more from his supporting cast / crew / technicians. At intermission, someone put a live guitar next to an amp and about blew our ears out with the vibrations. The second half was moderately better with the sound...but it was almost a joke by then. It was the first night of the show, so hopefully they got it right the following nights. I was extremely disappointed by this show. I saw it for the first time at The Kennedy Center in DC when I was a little kid. I was hoping to bring back some of the magic I felt then....Didn't come close. :(

I thought the cast did a wonderful job. Bright, and full of energy. Ben Vereen was fun to see. He can still command the entire stage. The show was very good. I do have to point out that I don't know when I've seen a show where the sound technicians almost ruined the entire performance. They couldn't figure out the body mics. They would have the wrong person up or not bring the singer up until the third line of the song. I felt especially sorry for the Judas singers, we missed almost half of their song. And I was on the second row. Boot your technicians or send them to body mic boot camp.

I have seen Jesus Christ Superstar many times, from the Broadway production with the original cast (Ted Neely, Carl Anderson) to Community Theater so small the players have 2-3 parts each. For the price of the ticket, we thought it was pretty pathetic. The set was boring and unchanging. Mary was the worst Mary I've ever seen and totally butchered "I don't know how to love him". I felt sorry for the orchestra as they struggled to make her sound good as she lagged behind on every line, dragging it out so painfully slow. The characters (Jesus and Mary mostly) were horribly unanimated, as though they were unable to move their arms. At the beginning, when Jesus and Mary sang, it was difficult to discern who was singing because they stood almost perfectly still, as if they had forgotten it was theater and not radio. Once we learned which voice belonged to whom, it was less confusing. And, finally, the sound man/company should be FIRED! Feedback more times than I care to mention, mikes muted deep into a characters lines, some characters too loud, others too soft, very unbalanced. I had to wonder if they had even one single dress rehearsal? How do you get to show time, much less the second showing and still be this bad? Quite frankly as a whole, the entire production was unmoving, uninspiring and for the most part lacked any emotion. What we enjoyed about the show was Ben Vereen. Mr. Vereen was amazing! Best part of the show by far. Although I was slightly embarrassed for him because of the sound team being so awful and he being an extremely talented actor/singer. Judas was wonderful. He has a beautiful voice, was very animated and played to the audience extremely well. The rest of the supporting cast was very good as well. The orchestra was outstanding! We spent more time watching the orchestra from the Founder s Boxes than we did the show because they were more animated. This was my first time seeing a performance by the Musical Theater of Houston. I would hesitate to pay any amount to watch any other production they may offer. I m unsure I would be willing to give them a second chance, even if it were free. That s two hours of my life I will never get back.

It wasn't awful, but it wasn't worth the ticket prices. I've seen better high school musicals, but high school musicals don't cost 80 bucks a ticket! Granted, that was a high-end ticket - if I try them again I will go for the cheap seats. Some of the actors had both the voice and the physical projection, but not many - most were lacking in one, the other, or both. Again, not awful, but not completely professional, at least from where I sat. Ditto for the other details. I think the pit orchestra was a weak spot as well - when the guitar player basically phoned in the opening solo, I was "oops, I hope this is not an omen." It was. Where I sat - now there's another story. I sat in a "Founders Box," which you'd think would be the best seat in the house. Not so, my friend. I can't understand why the Founders would want them. In most places, if you get a side box you are close to the stage. (In Jones Hall, for example, if you get the first row of the boxes you are practically on the stage.) I was in the second box from the side and still a mile away. The poor people in the middle were two miles away. Yeah, it's nice to have your own bathroom and all (the tiny one outside the boxes area, for the hoi polloi, had a line out the door 30 minutes before the performance - I'd hate to see it at intermission!), but it doesn't trump being a mile from the stage. I have to admit this review is only for the first act - I don't stay where I'm not being entertained.

We were extremely dissappointed. The microphones on some of the actors would go in and out when they moved around on stage. The quality of actors was just average at best. I have seen JCS production 4 times ------- I took my daughter to enjoy an evening together and I was so embarrassed that I wasted her time. The actors were not up to High School level. Awesome music as long as you are familiar with Andrew Lloyd Webber and the original score. Judas and Jesus rocked the place. Herod - talk about taking liberties, was hilarious. Ben Vereen as Pilot was an added bonus. There was an occasional mirophone squeal in the second act - not sure what happened there. Also a faded microphone now and again - technical difficulties, but not enough to change how much I enjoyed the show. Minimal props but the actors, music and songs carried the show.

One would expect that there would have been sound checks prior to the start. the entire first half was terrible. lots of feedback, sound was horrible, to the point where you couldn't understand what the performers were singing. Some mics failed to work. They corrected a little in the second half, but not that much. King Herrod scene, while funny and well done, we found inappropriate. The actors were courageous, but the sound was the worst I have ever experienced in professional theatre. Add to this the fact that when I booked tickets, the event was supposedly all sold out, but in fact there were HUGE orchestra sections available. We paid $85 per ticket for loge seats and could barely hear. The solos were somewhat discernible, but even though I know the lyrics to every song by heart, even these were mushy sounding at best. Very disappointing. Worthy of money back.

I truly enjoyed this performance, but it wasn't easy. The local talent and Ben Vereen were very good, maybe even excellent. The performance was well rehearsed and well executed. However, with the combination it was only average.

Musical was pretty good - came with friend hadn't seen for awhile - would have been better with longer intermission for a drink and some conversation before bells rang to return to seat - never really sure how long you have when bells ring before the production begins again. Production was a little flat - the set, songs, dance seemed all fairly average - was a little hard to hear what people were saying/singing.Don't like that you can't call theater directly to purchase tickets/ask questions about tickets/seats.

The show was plagued with mechanical/electrical failures. The microphones kept starting and stopping and the vocals were not broadcast for the majority of the first act and parts of the second act. I am truly disappointed and my money was wasted. Audience members from throughout the theatre were frustrated and many were complaining openly that it was the worst production of any musical they had seen. I felt sorry for the actors. I was very disappointed with this performance. The cast were almost college or high school students. The biggest problem however was with the sound and miking. There was lots of feedback, volumes fading in and out and generally difficulty hearing the soloists. The performance was promoted and priced like a first rate affair, but I, and my entire group came away less than impressed. I always tell folks from other cities that Houston puts on theater that rivals anywhere else in the country. I am certainly glad that none of them were attending to experience this!

The singing and staging was alright, but the terrible sound production would be objectionable in a high school production! What was up with that? I went on the second night so there was no excuse that they had no time to work out the bugs! Poor Caiaphas has a great voice but he was undermiced! They MUST crank up his great bass voice so it can be appreciated, not drowned out by the other singers. Damn near every song missed the opening note or two! The sound engineer appeared to be two beats off his cue every time. Why wasn't there more dancing? Big stage, great music but too much just standing around. As far as production problems, what was supposed to be on the back screen during the crucifixion? Something, no doubt, but all we saw was a momentary error message. All in all, it would have been passable if it was a $10.00 high school production on a school night, but for $150.00 on a Saturday night? I don't think so!!! That's $ 150.00 I'd love to get back but, more importantly, I'd love to have my wasted evening back! I won't be as quick to attend another production by the Music Theatre of Houston, whoever they are!

JCSuperstar at Detroit's Masonic Temple was very well down with strong vocals from the entire cast! Ted Neely getting a bit up there in age, no longer looking like a 32 year old man. Age appearance issue aside, Mr Neely delivered the goods. Glad I attended the performance. Forgot how entertaining, and profound at the same time, this play is and how timeless a gem it proves to be. I was disappointed. I felt as though I was sitting in the dress rehearsal. Stage production was minimal. I didn't think the new costumes toward the end of the play were fitting at all with the time period. It was totally discombobulated! Jesus seemed weak in voice and stature, not believably cast or someone to whom one could build a connection. The kings seemed unbelievable and comical which basically compromised the brutal, sacrificial death of Christ. Also they didn't really show Christ resurrected like they did when I saw it the first time.

First the Show: The production as a whole did not seem to grab the audience. I had seen the show many years ago and this was not even close. The high points were a few songs by the young woman playing the part of Mary Magdalene, her vocals were excellent. (sorry I do not have the show program to look up her name). Ted Neeley, over-acting the part of Jesus has a good voice for an old guy but seemed unable to keep up with the rest of the cast. It may be time to think of letting a younger man jump into the roll. Always best to get out as close to the top of your game as possible. The rest of the songs were pretty much a let down as was the stage production. Nothing really pulls you into the story. Question to several cast members; when did yelling and screaming lyrics become singing? Regarding the venue, the San Diego Civic Theatre is very run down. The view from our seats, front center Mezzanine, was good. The seats, however, were extremely uncomfortable. Not a patch on the stadium seating found in local film theaters. Recommendations: Save your money. The show was not that good and the venue is old. Because half the seats were empty, management might want to take notice. Prices should be slashed for this show.

Overall, the production was well done and filled with lots of talent from veteran actors. The singing was right on to fill a stage of simple, yet, to the point deco. There could of been a little less "fill in" dancing, since it was done with teens or young children. The in between time would have been enjoyed just as much by listening to just instrumental music instead. I come back each time and with the same excitement prior and after seeing it.

Most of the singing was good, Few were great. Costumes were bad, dancers had rips in their tights, outfits didn't seem to fit very well. Music was great. Glad I went but probably won't go again even though it is an annual show.

I was so so so so disappointed!! We started going to the show back in the 80's. I had not gone for the last 5+ yrs and was really looking forward to seeing it again with a large group of friends. :-((( I had everyone so excited and when the show started they all looked at me with confusion. I had bragged about how awesome the show was and this was the farthest thing from awesome. **It looked like anyone who tried out got a part. **The microphones kept going in and out, the actors did not articulate the words to the songs, and it was almost impossible to understand the show at all. **If I had not seen the show many times before I would have had NO CLUE what was going on.. I was constantly looked at by my group with ?????? on their faces. **Judas however was very good!

Amateur actors but good. Saw quite a few years back at salt city's old venue, theater in old church. So venue much better. Tickets kind of pricey though. Great singing. Ending spectacular. Just a suggestion, have actors (actors playing crowd) remove wrist watches. Lol. Not an item available in that time period.

Judas & Simon were terrific, but the only time I could hear Jesus was when he was shrieking. The rest of his sound was completely lost, due to sound board issues or his lack of projection? It was hard to tell, but either way when you can't hear the main character there's a problem. Mary's acting was great, I really felt like her heart was breaking when Jesus died, but she was obviously trained in opera which is the wrong style of singing for this show.

I have seen Jesus Christ Superstar multiple times since I was a child. My mother and I watch the movie religiously (no pun intended), know all of the words, and believe that the movie cast is the best cast, has the best voices, best acting, and best renditions. We have seen the movie cast (or certain actors from it) perform Jesus Christ Superstar many times and still, no one is as good as them. When I bought the tickets to see this show at the Keswick, my mom and I were hesitant. From the outside, the building looks like the performance could have been a high school or amateur show, but I must say we were very pleasantly surprised. The set-up of the seating around the stage was wonderful -- you had a good view no matter where you sat, and the acoustics in the room were outstanding. We loved how the performers walked through the aisles, sang in the aisles, and interacted with the audience during the performance. This all added to the powerful message of Jesus Christ Superstar and was a pleasure to the senses to hear singing and acting from all around the theatre. Out of all of the versions we've seen thus far, most the performers for this show were possibly second best to Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, and Yvonne Elliman. Carl Anderson was the ultimate Judas. The power in his voice and the notes that he hit in every song MADE the character. The actor that played Judas in this production was DEFINITELY the best Judas since Carl Anderson I've ever seen. OUTSTANDING. And the actress that played Mary Magdalene was one of the best singers I've ever seen since Yvonne Elliman. The actor that played Jesus acted well, and sang fairly well for most of the play, but it was kind of comical when he'd go to hit the high notes because he'd yelp, in a sense, and it ruined the dramatic moments for me. I don't know if he was trying to sing like Ted Neeley or what, and the program said that he opened for many famous rock singers in his career, but that trying-to-hit-the-high-note-yelping HAD to go. Other than that, I have no complaints. Pontius Pilate was wonderful, definitely held a candle to Barry Dennen in the movie, and King Herrod was comical and brought the right amount of fun to the movie, like he should. The choreography was outstanding, and we were pleasantly surprised at how moving the crucifixion scene was executed, since it can be so hard to act out on stage, let alone in a traveling version of the play. I believe that this event is held every year at the Keswick and I will definitely be seeing it again next year, and recommending it to all of my friends and family.

Awful Awful Awful. Horrible acoustics, horrible sound system, broken mics, mediocre band, a couple that could sing but none that could dance, and the stage setup was elementary school at best. Judas was great despite his broken mic. The rest were dismal. Big disappointment.

I have seen this show every year for the past few years and I am never disappointed. The cast is phenomenal. The only complaint I have is that the sound person didn't turn on mics at the right time, so some of the singing was missed. Other than that, I highly recommend the show.

I never saw Jesus Christ Superstar when I was young when it first went on stage. My mom wanted to see it at the Keswick Theatre this past March 30,2013; I really did not want to go, So, because I love my mom very much, I purchased two tickets. She had seen it before and loved it. This was my first time, and I truly, truly thought it was wonderfully portayed following the Bible. The actors were great, especially when they had to stand so still for a long time. The music and singing was great and so loud, I love loud music at a concert or in a movie theatre. It would be great if everyone could see it at some time in their life.

I did not know what to expect. I have seen it on Broadway. We traveled from South Jersey and WAS NOT disappointed. All the singing was right on the mark. They are exceptionally talented individuals. I was not all in agreement with the interpretations, but that is insignificant. The theater was comfortable as well. They may want to think about installing another women's bathroom. That was my only complaint was the long line to the bathroom that almost made me miss the opening. It was a beautiful way to include my teenager in Easter week "observance".

My husband and parents were privileged to see Jesus Christ Superstar on Saturday. What a powerful and riveting presentation of the production. The lighting was awesome! As a former Stage Manager, who managed three productions of Superstar for a community theater, I can honestly say that the Director is spot-on on understanding how to put on a phenonemal show... I can't wait until next year to see your production again!

I am sorry, but the production in no way lived up to one I saw decades ago. There was a family in front of mine in the theater that shared the same view. There was no energy on stage; the beautiful music and dancing I remember were not evidenced in this play. Sad to say, but I've seen better high school productions. I apologize for being so negative, but I thought I would be giving my grandchildren a memorable experience. When that didn't happen, I felt cheated.

From the first note that came out of Judas's mouth this play was awful. I saw this play on broadway and it was one of my all time favorites. The sound was attrocious! Amplifier feedback throughout the entire show, microphones turned on halfway through the song - if at all. The choreography was grade school amateur. I now have a new standard I can use for bad theater. "Well at least it's not as bad as Jesus Christ Superstar was!"

The acting and staging were fine, nothing to blow your socks off but a good job overall. The sound people should not be hired again for any work. The mics were either not working, not adjusted properly or giving feedback throughout the show. It wasn't even fixed properly during intermission so the second half was only a little better. I felt badly for the actors and the audience.

This was the second weekend we were at the Wortham and both times the sound was not good. At Superstar there was lots of feedback and many of the lapel mikes didn't work properly. I did appreciate the way they did adhere to the original sound score although Mary got off a couple of times. Pilate & Herod were particually good. Jesus and Judas had great voices but their acting was lacking. The set was wonderful but the costumes could have been better, especially the Pharisees needed better.

We were really looking forward to seeing a good show, but the terrible sound mixing and feedback from the microphones ruined the performance. I have never expereinced such poor sound quality before at the Wortham or any other Houston theater, including the Miller Outdoor Theater. Often times the audience was unable to hear the secondary performers, the voice of Judas was distorted through most of the performance, loud breathing could be heard during several numbers, and ear piercing feedback vibrated through the theater on several occasions. Some of the actors appeared to be unable to hit many notes during the performance, although we don't know this for sure due to the microphones not working properly. The loud feedback that occurred several times before and after intermission was terrible and unacceptable. If the Wortham wants to charge Broadway type admission prices for these performances, they will need to bring a less amateur style production to the stage. I now understand the half empty theater we saw. This was the worst production we have seen in Houston in 20 years,

Disgraceful for the Wortham to have allowed this show in their world class facility. Core group of equity actors teamed with grossly inexperienced ensemble cast from SHSU. Did not work - resembled a high school play. JC was adequate but not inspiring, Judas was terrible, Mary absolutely miscast. The sound technician should never work again: constant mike feedback and mikes off and then on were a huge distraction. I've seen this play a half dozen times - I'll have to see it again to wash out the poor taste of seeing this version/this performance.

What an unfortunate waste of money. It began with terrible sound, feedback from mic's, and a drummer who managed to play over everyone. The psychedelic background was trite and obvious...and annoying. The key dancers were always out of step with one another, and I couldn't help but burst out laughing when the lepers began what appeared to be a "Thriller" dance. When I could hear them, the leads sounded o.k.; however, the horrible interpretation of one of the best-loved songs, "I don't know how to love him," was the final straw...and I walked out. You ruined one of my favorite musicals, MTOH. Overpriced for the quality. So disappointed. Hope you enjoy the $80 donation. Maybe you can use it to help fix your staging, audio, and choreography issues. Best thing about this was Ben Vereen. He was fantastic!

This was a truly appalling excuse for a professional production - or any production. I have seen high school musicals that have had far better DRESS REHERSALS. I feel terrible for Ben Vereen. The other "actors" were so egregious that by merely being good, he appeared to be chewing the scenery. He was the only one in decent voice. I seriously wondered if this show had even been rehersed. The choreography was dreadful - the Michael Jackson zombie choreography was WHOLLY inappropriate. Judas DID NOT shoot himself as there were no handguns in 4BC. Since it was obvious that no money was spent on either costumes or sets, one wonders where the $80 ticket fee actually went - apparently it didn't go to engage the services of stage manager either. There was not a single song in which the singer did not go sharp or flat at one point or another. Often for the entire song. Besides Vereen, the only one who even ATTEMPTED to act was Tommie Harper as Judas - it was only a pity he couldn't sing and act at the same time. Sam Brown's constant nasal whine as Jesus could have etched glass. Frankly, I'd have liked to apply the 39 lashes myself. In the end, you couldn't pay me to see another production by The Musical Theater of Houston.

Was very excited to see Jesus Christ Superstar. We thought we got excellent seats. When the show started, the sound was muffled. We could not hear the singers; the orchestra seemed to overpower the performers. At intermission, I spoke with a representative @ the Wortham and she indicated other audience members sitting in the orchestra seats could not hear. They were adjusting the audio and she suggested we sit further back because there did not seem to be an issue with the audio. We did as she suggested and it appeared the person that handled the audio did not know when to turn on the volume of the microphones of the singers. Anytime someone started singing, the volume was turned down really low, then the controller adjusted the volume. Goodness! I would have expected this at a local theatre however, this was a major production and expected more.

I love seeing JCS on stage and this was a wonderful version. However the sound was below standard. I don't know if it was because I was close to the orchestra, but I had a hard time hearing the words of the singing especially Judas, so much that my husband, who had never seen a performance before, had some trouble following the plot because of the poor sound quality. Several times the mike would cut in and out during someone's singing. It was disappointing. Judas' finale song fell a little flat to me as well. On a positive note; I loved seeing Ben Vereen on stage!

We were impressed by the some of the singers, when we could hear them. The sound was horrible. Some of the singers' mikes were not on when they sang. It also appeared that the band made many mistakes during the performance. We were very disappointed. It looked like a college play instead of a major performance. The staging was poor. The lead, Jesus Christ, was too stiff during the performance. He hardly moved during his songs. This is our third or fourth viewing of Jesus Christ Superstar and we ranked it the worse.

Even Ben Vereen as Pontius Pilate couldn't pull this performance out of the dust. The sound engineer had no idea what he was doing. Half the time you couldn't hear the chorus. Sam Brown as Jesus failed to hit his notes and failed to evoke emotion from a very juicy role. Tommie Harper's Judas was forgettable and overplayed. The Soldiers were apparently chosen at Gold's Gym for their six-packs. Dillon Wright as King Herod was the most professional of the players. Still I want my money back.

The actual play and actors may have been decent if not for the terrible sound system set-up. Countless times the mike of the singer was not turned on at all or turned on after the song begun. Did not really care for sets, costumes, orchestra, but the sound system was by far the biggest problem. If there was a rehersal for the guy running the board, it did not show. Jesus and Mary had nice voices, and I could hear them most of the time, but overall it appeared to be an amature production all the way around.

The acting was wonderful. The minimalist set worked well. The orchestra was great...but the sound crew need several more days of rehearsal. The orchestra overpowered the singers on several occasions...most noticeably during the singing of the title song in the second act: the singers could not be heard in the loge boxes. On our way out we overheard another couple commenting that "this must have been a rehearsal." Very disappointing.
