New Politics

New Politics

Rambunctious, Danish indie rockers New Politics formed in the late 2000s around the talents of vocalist David Boyd, guitarist/vocalist/keyboard player Søren H, and drummer Poul Amaliel. The band’s high-energy, guitar-driven blend of punk, pop, and electronically induced dance rock (Boyd specializes in wildly unpredictable stage posturing) eventually caught the ears (and eyes) of RCA, who signed the group in 2009. Fearing American anonymity, the band relocated to New York City, or more specifically, the indie rock center of the universe, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Their self-titled debut full-length was released in July of 2010.

The concert was legendary. As soon as New Politics went on the stage the crowd went nuts. They put on an amazing show and kept the crowd amped for the whole night. They really connected with the crowd and interacted with them. The band made the night special and making me want to see them again. That was truly the best concert I've ever been too.

New Politics was amazing! They sounded great and were so energetic! You could really tell they love what they are doing and performing for everyone, especially Soren! But David has amazing vocals and Louis was killer on the Drums too! I love how intimate the Sinclair is, so if you ever get a chance to see a band perform there, it is well worth the trip/money or whatever else!

Not sure if it was the venue or what but new politics was way too loud and muffled. Couldn't hear the singer over the rest of the band. Way too loud overall. I ended up leaving after the first couple songs.

The show as a whole was very good. All three bands (Sleeper Agent, Magic Man, and New Politics) brought a great energy, and the crowd was into it the entire time. The set was constant without changing and minimalist production which lead to a good old fashioned rock show. Overall I had a great time, and to see three Altnation bands for $25 was AWESOME.

Actually, I gave two tickets to my son and his fiancee, for Christmas, for this show at Culture Room. They had a great time and were pleasantly surprised by the show, the music, and how entertaining New Politics were. They shared videos and pictures on Facebook, and honestly, I wish I could've joined them. They also liked Magic Man. Thank you!

Became a fan of New Politics after seeing them open for 30 Seconds to Mars earlier this year and instantly fell in love! Have seen them 2 times since then, with 1 more in the near future. Would follow them anywhere. They put on quite a show & after meeting them for the CD signing, found out they are amazing & down to earth guys too. Would HIGHLY recommend seeing a show if you can. Oh, and the folks at XL102Richmond and The National were amazing as well. The venue is great, love the layout and intimate feel. One of the best shows I've seen at one of the best venues!!

I saw them open for 30 Seconds to Mars at the Hollywood Bowl. They freaking rocked for an opening act. This is for sure one band that will be making it big. I'm not sure whether New Politics (NP) and Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness (AMITW) are alternating the order in which they play during this co-headlining tour, but after having seen them both, I can say that both are well-deserving of the show-closing spot. Both acts put on highly energetic sets, with AMITW probably a little more intense than NP's unbridled fun. Both bands' singers made use of the security railing at the foot of the stage to get as close to fans as possible, with NP's David Boyd going all the way out into the crowd with his patended standing crowd-surf. A fun show, definitely recommended. And stay until the end - no matter who's playing last on the night you attend, they'll be worth sticking around for.

New Politics is one of the most high energy shows I've ever attended. We saw them in January at a much smaller venue and smaller crowd and I attributed the energy in the room to that alone. I was wrong! No matter the size of the place, this band commands a dominating presence. The floors were shaking with everyone dancing and singing along. Very exciting show. Absolutely loved Bad Suns as well...they are a great new band. They were a perfect pairing with New Politics.

I saw New Politics open for P!nk last year. I had really liked them and knew I wanted to see them again. I was excited to get to seem them headline their own tour in a great small venue The Independent. Lead singer David Boyd stood and walked on the crowd during Fall Into These Arms . At the end of the song he fell into the arms of the crowd. In addition to performing their well-known songs Tonight You re Perfect , Harlem and Yeah Yeah Yeah , they covered snippets of Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time and Justin Timberlake s My Love . Their set was fun and high energy. David Boyd did his signature breakdancing moves and headstand during the show. The crowd sang along and jumped up and down during most of the show. They did a great job headline their own show. New Politics did a meet and greet with fans that included a photo, but no autographs. You had to have a yellow ticket for the meet and greet. Someone gave me her ticket because she didn t want to wait around for the band to come out so I lucked out and was able to get a pic with the band. Magic Man from Boston continued the momentum that was set by Sleeper Agent. They got the crowd dancing and jumping around with their upbeat music. The lead singer Alex Caplow hung around after their set and the show to take photos with fans. Kentucky s Sleeper Agent set the stage for the night. They had good energy and got the crowd going. It was obvious that lead singer, Alex Kandel and guitarist Tony Smith were in a relationship as they performed. Alex hung out by the band s merch and graciously talked to and took pictures with fans. That is when I found out that she and Tony are engaged. Every performance was better than the one before. Funnily each band had a song titled Waves that they performed. The energy was steady all night. New Politics picked the right bands to open up for them.

Get out and see New Politics while they are still playing small venues- will be with Fallout Boy and Paramore this summer~ These guys put out big sound and are high energy! Vinyl is the smaller sister to the Joint at the Hard Rock but has better acoustics and more intimate setting so I actually like it more. Bands sell merchandise out front after so good way to catch em on meet and greets...

This show was my 5th for New Politics, and they did not disappoint! They were so happy and smiley it was contagious, the room was full of energy. It was my second show with Dreamers and they were such edgy and fun performers. Their set was also really great, although a bit short bc I wanted to hear more songs!!! :) It was my first time listening to the Wrecks and they put on a solid show and definitely got the crowd going! The only issue I had throughout the night (which isn t the issue of the bands or the venue) was a few severely disrespectful kids who thought it was an opportunity to have a mosh pit where I was (this is an alt. show with slow songs, not Warped Tour thank you) and shoved me around/headbanged into me substantially more than I would have liked. Other than that the show was great and I d highly recommend. Just maybe bring a tall friend who can protect you if you re a short girl next time :)

Nick's voice is hypnotic. They were amazing and we are looking forward to seeing them again. New Politics put it all out there. This night was incredible. I saw the ad for the Wilderness Politics tour a few months before the show and after listening to New Politics and some more Andrew McMahon, (whom I already knew) I bought tickets and decided to go. I was pleasantly surprised by LoLo, who has an amazing voice, and also the Griswolds, who are great performers and super funny and energetic. Since it was the last show of the tour, New Politics came out in bath towels to crash "Heart of a Lion" and it was hilarious. The best thing was that you didn't have to wait that long in between sets, it was sweet. When New Politics came out, the place exploded. Everyone was jumping up and down and the lights and music were so well-coordinated. The bandmembers, David, Soren, and Lou are undeniably passionate about what they do and you can really see that. Not to forget David's incredible dancing, which is sure to win you over. In a music industry where all that seems to matter is popularity and looks, this band stands out in the fact that they don't care what anyone thinks and their goal is always the music, not money or fame. David's little speech before "Overcome" was really inspiring and they are all such good and talented people. I got to meet them after the show and they're truly so down to earth. If you have the chance to see them, do it! You'll have a night full of happiness, I promise.

I'm a huge fan of McMahon's, so unless something really odd took place, my review would be positive. And it is. I bought a GA ticket so I could get close to the stage to hand-deliver an essay I wrote a couple years back after seeing him at The Paramount. His song, "Swim," is sort of an anthem for my family. My son, like Andrew, had recovered from cancer and is now living life to the fullest. I wanted Andrew to read my piece about "Swim," and what it means to us, and now I finally had the chance. (I had tried last year to get the essay to Andrew, asking his sound guy to give it to him after the show, since I couldn't stay. The LIRR train I had to catch was my priority that night! But I don't think Andrew ever rec'd the envelope.) So, this time around, I made sure I'd get it to him! After a few songs, he sang, "Swim." My son managed to get the envelope onto the stage. Andrew saw it, and said, "Oh, presents for ME?" My son said that it was actually from his mom. Andrew said, "I like getting presents from moms!" People began chanting, "Read it! Read it! Read it!" Andrew wisely said he'd get to it after the show. That was good enough for me! Then it was back to the music. I was thrilled that the show opened with, "Rainy Girl," another all-time favorite of mine. It was so beautiful! I got a little weepy. He did a bunch of new songs, "Canyon Moon," "Cecelia and the Satellite," etc. I was excited that he played Lie-Lie-Lie, but bummed that he omitted "Mixed Tape." But the experience was one I'll never forget, especially since I know he got my essay. He actually picked my envelope up off the piano, and as he exited the stage, waved it at the crowd. I hope he likes it! I love Andrew's music and would watch him play every night, if I could.

Recently, I attended the Wilderness Politics Tour when they came to Boston last Friday night. I had seen New Politics in concert before when they opened up for Paramore and Fall Out Boy during Monumentour (summer of 2014). I loved their music, and I have listened to all three of their albums (a bad girl in harlem is my favorite). I was expecting a good show, considering lead singer David Boyd's breakdancing moves as well as their upbeat, jumpy, and energetic songs. What I was not expecting was to be blown away. New Politics have completely changed my perspective on what a live show should be. Never before had I witnessed a band interact and include the entire audience as much as they did. Their energy and passion for what they do just radiated off of them. They sang a mix of songs both old and new. I enjoyed how they brought out Chris Whitehall from the Griswolds during "50 Feet Tall" and Andrew McMahon during "Girl Crush". It added a sense of togetherness between the four acts of the show. After the show, I had the privilege to meet the band. Let me tell you, these guys are the real deal. They are so driven to make their fans happy. I still cannot believe that their live show does not get the credit it deserves. If you ever have the chance to see New Politics, take it. They will not disappoint.

This was by far the best concert I've been to in the past 10 years. What a performance! The venue was pretty low key, but it a good way. Wasn't so crowded you couldn't enjoy the show. The bands themselves were absolutely brilliant. I've been following Andrew since "something corporate" and was so happy when he played punk rock princess. I loved hear new stuff from new politics. So after witnessing awesome shows from Twenty One Pilots/Echosmith on Friday night (5 Stars aren't enough, exceptional show!) and Janet Jackson (more of a pseudo-fan but she and her entourage earned a solid 4-4.5 stars - Black Cat was metal, who knew?) on Saturday night, the Journey's Tour with The Griswolds, New Politics and Andrew Mcmahon in the Wilderness had a lot to live up to coming just 3 nights later. They proved ever the willing participants, making up for a lack of comparable visual technology with sheer energy and song craft. LOLO was a complete surprise, her opening 20 minutes a bit uneven but she can belt for sure. The accompanying guitar was just right and she was fun, would be a great front woman for a rock band. Next up, Australia's The Griswolds were excellent, kind of a throwback to 80's pop metal ("petal") with great songs and cool personas. The perfect choice for the slot. We saw New Politics last year and knew how much stage presence they command, two boys from Denmark and a New Yorker on drums with limitless energy and an amazing rapport with the crowd. The new album's better than the first two, and that says a lot. They were the surprise of last year's 20+ shows and they certainly did not disappoint! They pack more into an hour and 15 minutes than almost anyone I have ever seen. Backflips off the drum set and more breakdancing than before just add to the spectacle. Wasn't sure about the co-headliner on first situation, until AM in the Wilderness took the stage. Starting off with a very chill piano opening, he built to a high that is rare these days, inspirational life story, great musician and singer, and the kind of personality that brings a smile to every face in the building. The Wilderness album is my only reference point as I came to the party a bit late, admittedly only going to see them due to the New Politics inclusion. Fan for life now. The piano-centric show is different for my tastes (rounding out the year will be Heart,Winery Dogs, Motley Crue with Alice Cooper and Muse so you get the picture) but I would pay good money to see AM and Co. any time. The perfect pacing, skillfully ebbing and flowing with power and subtlety, new songs mixed in with old standards from previous bands but all songs enjoyable, and that is no easy accomplishment. Bringing New Politics out at the end is gracious and classy, always makes for a memorable addition when bands take the initiative to celebrate each other. The fact that there is a non-profit that does a bone marrow registry event at every show (over 1,200 registrants - 30 matches, lives saved by his fans all because of him) shows that as a 10 year cancer survivor, he is motivated to help others through it. THAT is heroic! Left with a big smile on a Tuesday in downtown San Diego on a perfect night. Best place on the planet is front row balcony at the San Diego House of Blues - great sound, awesome view and the most friendly and accommodating staff in every way...

I first saw New Politics when they opened for Paramore and Fall Out Boy on Monumentour. I only knew a couple of their songs and really just wanted to speed through their performance and get to the bigger bands. However, New Politics drew me in and blew me away. Even not knowing their songs I was able to really get into the show and have the time of my life. This prompted me to see them twice more on their own tour, at Bogart's in Cincinatti and Newport Music Hall in Columbus. I've already purchased my ticket for the next tour. Their stage presence is INCREDIBLE. It is evident that they really want to be there performing for you. They are super involved with the audience and want you to have fun! Even if you aren't a huge New Politics fan at home, I recommend seeing them live.

New Politics blew the doors off the TLA Saturday night. They took their high powered energy into the small venue TLA and it was an incredible mix. The only down side was Bad Suns opening up for them. Somekindofwonderful started the night with a very good set filled with their own brand of energy, and then the crowd went to sleep during Bad Suns. It wasn't enough of a damper to ruin the evening though as New Politics came out and gave a Grade A performance. The boys from Denmark know how to rock!

The day started off really badly with the snow storm but once we go to the concert New Politics and Bad Suns really turned it around! The venue was small but intimate with the band and they gave out a bunch of free things like one person got a guitar!!! The music was great and this was by far one of the best concerts I have ever attended!

Some Kinda Wonderful opened and they were awesome for a band that I'd never heard of. The Bad Suns were good as usual. And New Politics totally killed it! They were beyond amazing and shot past all my expectations!!

I was expecting great things as I had seen New Politics over the summer with Paramore and Fall Out Boy and they stole the show. But, New Politics completely blew me away. Their performance was AMAZING and I loved the meet and greet opportunity after. I was also already a huge fan of Bad Suns, but they were awesome as well. I had never really listened to SomeKindaWonderful before the concert except for one song, but after the show I bought their entire album. I would definitely recommend seeing any and all of the bands if an opportunity presents itself.

This was the second time I have seen this band and definitely not my last. They have a great way of interacting with the crowd and getting everyone to just live in the moment. Everyone has a great amount of energy and its one of the best places to be. It's a pushy concert and a lot of fist pumping and head banging. And if you buy a shirt from merch you can go to their meet and greet( usually) Overall it's a must see band!

I have loved them since i first heard them,. they are Fresh and Enthusiastically Current. I am 50 plus BTW, and been to over a 1000 shows music is my passion they are stage entertainers as well great performers. do yourself a favor and go see these guys. I want to see them in their home town Brooklyn I am pretty sure its one of ny city burgs. I didnt not get there to see the openening act. but being the show was in cleveland I would have paired the MOXIES as a opener. I would like to see another performance at this intimate venue and would be nice to have The Moxies open for them..

The staff at the venue weren't very nice. Didn't inform us until after they had scanned our tickets that we couldn't leave then come back. Not a big deal though. Starting off the concert was Somekindawonderful. They sucked. I won't be seeing them again. They rarely interacted with the crowd. I was thankful when they were done. Bad Suns were a little better. They put in an effort, but it was obvious that they haven't been on tour very many times. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I'd watch them again if I had the opportunity. Now, New Politics killed it. I saw them first when they were the openers for the Monumentour, and they rocked it then. I was not disappointed with this performance. I would pay to see them again any day.

We have now seen New Politics 3 times and every show is just awesome. They are so entertaining and fun to watch. Their humble personalities make it easy to fall in love with them, their crowd interaction is unforgettable, and never being disappointed will make my husband and I come back to see them again and again!
