The Police

The Police

From their early beginnings, The Police were hailed as a maverick live band - a group that galvanized an already impressive studio sound into something otherworldly when performing. Combining controlled energy and evocative melodies, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers played with the improvisational instincts of a jazz trio and the raw energy of a punk-rock band - a blend that made them one of the definitive rock groups of the'70s and '80s.The group originally broke through at the same time that punk was shaking up the music scene in the late 70's.  Each member came from a different musical background: Summers played with The Animals, Soft Machine and Kevin Ayers, Copeland was a member of Curved Air and had a brief solo career as Klark Kent, while Sting had played in various jazz fusion groups.

Fantastic from the beginning. The Gorge at George, Washington has been rated the top natural Amphitheater in North America and it did not disappoint, other than the high cost of the drinks. Elvis Costello was awesome, The Police were, The Police!! One of the best concerts I have attended.

The support band were better than The Police... paid a boat load for the tickets and was very disappointing with their lacklustre performance... Would definitely not recommend and wouldn't waste my money again... Shame really... we thought this was going to be a superb gig!

They were great! The sound system at DTE Energy Music Theater (Pine Knob), sucked.

I caught Van Halen in 1984 & thought I'd never see a greater concert. I thought David/Eddie/Alex/Michael would never be toppled. Then I caught the Police's tour in 2008, & watched from very far back, on the "lawn" at the USANA Stadium just outside Salt Lake City. The band was amazing; these 3 old boys absolutley poured their hearts & souls into their music. Had I created a playlist for them, they would have nailed almost every single song on it. Absolutely awesome, & I would pay $500 to catch them again. A once-in-a-lifetime concert. Incredible.

I saw the Police in 2007 in Detroit, towards the beginning of their tour. I thought the show was top notch from beginning to end. They did a great job of reconstructing and extending songs to give them a better live sound and feel. The set list was great. The live CD/DVD is an excellent package, well produced, and a perfect way to relive the show as I remembered it. To me, the reunion tour was a dream come true for any Police fan. Regarding the last reviewer: I remember the live TV benefit show (last show of the tour) in NYC, and thinking that Sting was losing his voice, not hitting high notes, and that they sounded worn out. That performance did not do them justice, as I feel I saw them at the peak of their world tour when they were outstanding, much better than the NYC show.

Public TV benefit, Final Police concert ever. Police were awful. Easily the worst concert I've ever seen. Could not tell what song they were playing. Would be suprised if it was ever broadcast. Hilights were the starting 'Message in a Bottle' with the NYC police drum corps. Purple Haze (or some other Hendrix song in the second set )was their best effort at power trio sound. And what was Sting thinking, getting his beard shaved during the break by two women and showing it on the video monitors. Warm up B52's were great.
