Kylesa
Savannah-based rockers Kylesa play what could loosely be called sludge metal, but putting a genre label on their music does a disservice to their multi-faceted sound. The band combines elements of psychedelic rock, crust punk, and experimental music to arrive at a truly singular metal hybrid, and they continue to push themselves in new directions with each successive album. Their name derives from “kilesa mara”, a Buddhist term for a delusory mental state, and in concert they live up to the moniker with trance-inducing performances of their epic metal masterpieces. With two lead singers, dual drummers, drop-tuned guitars and plenty of tempo changes in.

The show was great. The music was on point and I was happy to experience a 21+ HARD event so I wouldn't have to deal with the crowd that is Hard Summer. The special guest was Skrillex who paired with Boys Noize makes Dogblood. BN is worth paying for any club or venue event as he is from Germany and only comes to the Los Angeles region about once a year. He is a very talented and rare act.

The opening bands were nothing special. The show generally drew a crowd of mixed scenes which did not fair well for those in the pit, and honestly it should've been a 21+ show, but other than that I had a fantastic experience. Dethklok were not only great to the ears, but visually the animations were both exciting and hilarious (here's looking at you, Dr Rockzo!). Do I wish they played a few more songs? Yes, the set seemed a bit short, especially considering how expensive the tickets were. And frankly I would've liked to hear Brendan talk in their voices a little more :) Like I first states though, overall it was a great show. Die for Dethklok!!

Shearwater should be much bigger than they are. It baffles me that, say, Andrew Bird has blown up, while Shearwater, who are deeper, catchier, and more meaningful remain at the small-club level. Alas. It's great for fans, because we can see them infinitely. But they make so much beautiful noise that they really ought to be filling a larger venue with it.

WOW!! I have been listening to their CD (Mr. Green Vol 1) non stop since I got it. When I had the chance to see them at the BB in NYC, I knew that I had to go! The show was honestly one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen (and I am a pretty harsh critic). The music is exquisite. The vocals are absolute perfection. The passion for music pours out of this band. It is the most beautiful thing to experience. Each song is a brilliant masterpiece. It was unlike every concert I have ever been to. On top of that, they couldn't be nicer. They didn't leave until any and every fan had a chance to meet them/get pics/get autographs. They are as nice as they are talented. This band is my absolute favorite, and I can not WAIT for the next show!!! I will be there with bells on!!!

I've seen these guys over 10 times now, and they consistently kill it. High energy live dance rock for the entire set. Cute girls getting down all over the place. Amazing light show ... definitely gotta check this band out if you get the chance.

It was a good show. However, with a few of the launching members, it is not what you would expect if you listened only to their album. The new singers are phenomenal with voices that carry weight, but there is no warbling Antony Hegarty to lend his talents. The venue was excellent, with a mix of scenes converging on this band it was quite a sight. All the performers are humble, and if you chance to meet one they don't play up their status. My biggest gripe is the lack of a full band, the saxophone and other instruments were digitally manifested, and it just could not compare. This is understandable considering the size of the venue, but still, I would wait to see them again until its at a venue where they can perform with a whole ensemble.

Empires is on a roll. New record coming out soon. The new songs catch you the first time and are true to the Empires sound we know and love. Frankies was lame. Been there before. They did not open at 7 to let the band set up like they said and got there to open at 8P. Empires has to do sound check after the warm up band while we where all waiting. Easily avoided it Frankies had just been there on time to let the bands set up and do sound check.

Hot Tuna never disappoints! This was a killer show right from the opener, Hesitation Blues, it was a pleasant surprise to see Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams as special guests. Larry is such an underrated string player & Teresa wailed on my favorite Hot Tuna cover Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning! It's been too long since I've been to a Hot Tuna electric show and was blown away at how well these old heads can jam!
