Maps & Atlases

MAPS & ATLASES IN CONCERT:Chicago indie rockers Maps & Atlases create nuanced compositions that are as easy-feeling as they are complex, juxtaposing organic sounds with highly technical arrangements to stunning effect. Their carefully layered sound possesses the attention to detail usually associated with math rock, but there's nothing formulaic about the delicate instrumentation of "Old Ash" or the off-kilter rhythms of "Solid Ground". At their live shows the band keeps the energy high with virtuosic playing and infectious dancing, treating ticket buyers to an unforgettable concert experience that emphasizes stellar musicianship and heart-on-sleeve emotion.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Maps & Atlases was formed in 2004 by a group of Columbia College Chicago students.

There are no words to describe how awesome Maps and Atlases are. They played great, Dave Davidson's voice is even more amazing in person, Chris the drummer was tearing it up, and Shiraz the bassist was getting the crowd going with his little two step dancing. The opening band Young Man was pretty good. The drummer was killer! The bassist looked a little spaced out and was having Vietnam flash backs. Bit great show, 2 thumbs way up! :D

Not only was Maps & Atlases right on musically, but after the show they came out on the floor and did 3 acoustic songs for the remaining crowd!!! Who does that? Then they hung around to chat with the fans!! Their music is extremely complicated and I was worried that they wouldn't be able to pull it off live---I shouldn't have! It was perfect; just like the albums! I would DEFINITELY see this band again!
