Kurt Vile & the Violators
Kurt Vile is the shy guy at the eye of a swirling hurricane of beautiful sonic textures. With his hypnotic fingerpicked guitar melodies and mumbled, cryptic lyrics, Vile lays the dark and earthy groundwork of the group’s sound in concert. His backing band the Violators take the folk-inspired tunes into the stratosphere with lush, spiraling guitars, driving drum patterns, and melodic basslines as each song builds to a climatic conclusion that envelops the listener. Ticket buyers can’t help but get swept up in the warm washes of folk, indie, and psychedelia that Kurt Vile and the Violators consistently deliver in performance.

I enjoyed the show overall. If I had not already known Kurt's music from before, I would've been a little disappointed (like my better half) because the guitars were just too overwhelming AND I love the guitar sounds he generates. The problem was you couldn't hear his voice and I don't know if that was his or the technician's 'fault'? Still, Kurt's a musical savant and I enjoyed his songs from across the various albums. I would see him again.

Fantastic performance. Better live than I could have even imagined. One of the better live performances I have ever seen.

Band is cool, very tame laid back jams. If you are expecting a lot of stage presence or banter you won't get it. Mostly stuff from the new album with some old gems thrown in. I'm very into his music so for me it's just fun being there and singing along. With GA I hung out in the pit.

This show was epic! Kurt is an amazing musician with a beautiful stage presence. He played a bunch from the new album as well as from Smoke Ring for my Halo. The Violators were also outstanding! I can't wait to see him again!!!

Was not expecting a ton of energy out of Kurt but, Jesus Christ, the guy seemed so far removed from the performance. Violators sounded good; Kurt sounded off. Second time I've seen him on most recent tour -- same outcome both events. Love the studio stuff but unwillingness and lack of enthusiasm to re-create live is disappointing.

Having sung the last song of opening band Luke Robert's set, Kurt Vile started his portion of the show playing a lot off of his latest album. In the middle there was an acoustic set, marred, as usual, by people talking in the background. He kicked it back into high gear towards the end, closing the encore with a raucous version of "Freak Train."

Katie Crutchfield has evolved from a low-fi singer songwriter on her first recording to a full blow band on her latest Ivy Tripp. Waxahatchee was in good form Friday night. Great musicians, a tight band and the harmonizing with her sister (I believe?) was nice. I like Luke Roberts album Big Bells and Dime Songs but he played solo and was lost in the mix with everyone talking over him. Kurt Vile & the Violators struggled. Kurt spent more time between songs, fussing over his gear and hair, than he did actually playing the songs. It was like watching a rehearsal. A real let down considering he's one of today's best songwriters.

Mostly songs from Wakin and Smoke Ring. Band was piling on luscious layers of sound varying between long jams and more concise approaches. Had a couple of issues with the mix during the show, though. Encore was 14 m version of Goldtone. Loved it.
