Can't recommend these two enough...I am a seasoned Massive Attack fan and I saw them for the first time live. Amazing performance. Also saw Thievery Corporation for the first time but I was pretty much introduced to their sound that night, and they did not disappoint. A very dynamic performance, lots of showmanship. The lights and visual aids were stunning - it's not just a show for the ears but one for the eyes too. Everyone was on their game, Robert and Grant from Massive were fantastic and unforgettable, as were guests Martina Topley-Bird and Horace Andy. Do not fail - if you enjoy these two bands and are looking for a good time, go see them!
Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa Barbara, CA - Fri, Oct 17, 2014
This was the best show I've ever seen. This band knows how to put on a show and rock with a distinct heavy, cool, sleek style. Exceeded my expectations. Upstairs at Sound Academy, sound quality could be better- behind curtain security voices were louder than concert. Fire alarm went of multiple times, again louder than the music. Otherwise good vantage points from upstairs.

i'm a huge fan of massive attack but i was disappointed with the show. throughout the show, the stage was dark and dreary. it was hard to even make out if the artists were even on stage singing or if a recording of their music was just playing. the performance was less than entertaining or engaging.

Massive Attack returned after a four year absence as strong as ever. Their use of video and lights to enhance the emotional impact of the songs is unmatched in modern music. The Greek seemed to be the perfect place for their unique brand of trip hop, soul, gospel and reggae. The Great Horace Andy was missing but that was the only glitch

Massive always puts on a good show and this was no different. They remixed their material so that it stayed fresh and even managed to have Horace Andy sing even though he wasn't there. Opening act TV On the Radio were great and coulda played longer but we did get to see their lead singer do Pray for Rain with Massive during the encore. Great show all around.

A huge fan of Massive Attack, this is the 2nd time I've been underwhelmed by their live show. Whether it's rearranging Karmacoma to sound absolutely nothing like the original - not a bad reimagining but perhaps better left as a new track, or the underwhelming vocals and volume of said vocals, you could feel the audience (including me) waiting for a chance to stand up and cheer. Inertia Creeps and Unfinished Symphonony were concert highlights and if they could have done the same to the rest of their amazing music catalog, I could only imagine how the place would have reacted. Still waiting for a jaw dropping show from probably one of my all time favorite bands.

I have seen a lot of bands perform and I can definitely say that Massive Attack is now my top 3 that I have seen along with Tool, and Rage Against the machine. Those three bands are incredible and jaw dropping! All for there own reasons. Great concert! Massive Attack is definitely one of a kind and they are amazing. PLEASE COME TO AMERICA MORE!!!! P.S. Oh, and bring Adrian Thaws next time too!! I want to hear him sing "Angel" and "Girl I love you!"

Massive Attack brought a neat light show, and the sound quality at the venue was great - but they didn't really perform... at all. They were silhouettes against a back drop of shifting images with no contextual attachment to the music (that I could tell). Streaming brand logos, flashing binary code and violent images of dismembered human beings were all in appearance, stage presence was not. Maybe I needed to be high to get it, maybe I needed to have more than tepid feelings for the band before going to the show to really dig it, but I felt totally underwhelmed by their performance and I don't think they brought the kind of show you would expect from a band with a 30 year history behind it - it was kind of a bummer. The venue is pretty nice - like the Hollywood bowl, but in a cleaner neighborhood.

I've been to their concert in NYC couple of years ago and it was awesome. I was looking forward to attend their concert again and was very happy to hear that they are coming to play in CA. Unfortunately the LA tickets were gone with no time, so instead I spent $300 to buy 4 tickets for the concert in Santa Barbara. Venue was great but really poor performance by Massive Attack. They started late and played maybe for an hour, no more. No communication with the crowd, only one vocalist instead of their usual 3-4. Only played 3 songs out of their best 10-12. I invited 3 people who've never been at Massive Attack concert and non of them liked it. Massive disappointment, will never attend their concert again...

I've listened to massive attack for years. It was cool to see some of their classics being performed but there was really no introduction and it seemed as though it might have not even been the original guys. I just couldn't tell with the way the lighting was and a lot of it sounded off. That was fine. The reason I give this show a low review is because it was way too political. Their light show was so bright I had to close and cover my eyes for a lot of it. And it was full of an assault of greed corporate logos and scenes of war and typed out drone massacres and it was a constant onslaught about how we have no more privacy and were all just sheep and numbers and the world is run by greedy evil pigs and there's no hope kinda thing. Okay. I know this and agree and I think most of their audience are also people who know this. Kinda preaching to the choir. If I'm gonna pay good money I don't want to leave a show early because I simply cannot stand anymore negativity and blinding flood lights. I like heavy and loud insane shows but this one was no fun at all. If I hadn't paid so much for the ticket I would have left after half an hour and I still ended up leaving early from an already very short show. The Santa Barbara bowl has a 10 pm curfew. Probably won't be going back to the venue often either.

Why waste ink on tickets that say a show will start at 8 when it's really 9? Glad I raced to get there for no reason. I've seen massive attack in 3 other venues in LA and this was so so. Aside from the late start (I thought I'd get more than 90 minutes) they were great. Was there even an opener? You couldn't tell. Supposedly one was scheduled for 7 but as I said, you wouldn't have known.

Good, but not great. I became a little impatient when it took them an hour to get on stage after the opening act had finished. And when they took the stage I felt their show took a while to gain traction. I enjoyed seeing them play Paradise Circus and Teardrop. Inertia Creeps was amazing - though not my favorite song I thought the stage and light production for this one was terrific. But, the high points were tempered with lows - lighting that never actually showed the band. A rendition of Angel accompanied by prerecorded vocals. Overall I left feeling uninspired - except to leave early to beat the traffic.

Massive Attack blew my face off and turned me inside out! Massive Attack was amazing visually and auditory. I have always wanted to see them live and thought I would never have the chance to do so, but they changed my life forever. I was very disappointed with Thievery though, they only played one song that I like and sound quality was awful towards the end of their set. This had nothing to do with the acoustics of the venue, trust me. When Thievery Corporation ended their excellent set at the Hard Rock Live Venue in Orlando, I was somewhat worried that Massive Attack couldn't pull off as good of a set. I was wrong. The backdrop/lighting to M.A.'s set was truly amazing and appropriate in setting the tone of each song. The songs featured were some of my recent MA favorites, especially the ones featuring Marina Topley-Bird and Horace Andy. I thank all of the performers for such a great and memorable show.

This is the second time I have seen Massive Attack. I saw them back in Cali at the Hollywood Bowl and now at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The venue has alot to do with the sound quality, therefore it can make or break a show. The Hollywood Bowl was a larger and an open/outside venue, therefore the sound quality and acousitcs were better. It was my first time at the Fox Theatre and I was not totally disappointed although it was a smaller venue. I am a die hard fan and I have been listening to Massive since the 90's so I will never have anything negative to say about them. I love the fact that their performances were so organic. There was no track playing with a loud bass to it. It was all live instruments, organic sounding, and that is why I love bands like Massive Attack. Definitely go see their show, it was totally worth it and always a pleasure!!!

The light show was amazing. The floor area was perfect, closest i have ever been to the stage and the loudness was perfect. The floor had ample space, not too crowded. The EQ of the PA was a little off, it had to many mid ranges and they create a resonating effect that is undesirable for piano solos ect. The performance was unbelievable and i will definitely go to the Wiltern again.

Unfortunately the show that I saw in Roseland and Hollywood Bowl was even better, may be was the vibe or something else, but the show was impressive. The band delivered a great moments and even without having some signature artist from some of the songs the performance was great. Terminal 5 doesn't have the power of other venues and I think that sound wasn't as I expected.

Arrived at the Bowl around 530. Went to go get my tickets at will-call. The woman the window was very nice and attentive. I went and waited until some of us were allowed to finally go in. I arrived to the seating area with the help of the wonderful ushers. I had the nachos at the concession stand...I'm glad I did. A bunch of chips and a cup of cheese, and jalapenos and salsa are sold on the side for a dollar each, and it was quite filling. Massive Attack came on at 8:15. They were absolutely epic. This may sound a bit exaggerated but I felt like I was in a trance. The music, the loudness of it and just the crowd in general, made my body feel so amazing. I felt so, so good, and I was really enjoying the experience. Although there were many people smoking weed, that actually made the concert better for me. The crowd was great, and they had a guest female singer with really great sparkly pants (I forgot her name) Overall, phenomenal show. I wish to see them again in the future.

This show was great, I've seen both of these bands three times separately but to see them both at the same show was such a treat. Thievery Corp is able to recreate the awesome sounds on their records in their live set, which is pretty amazing considering the depth and intricacies of their sonic tapestry. Massive Attack's live show is something to behold, it's difficult to describe what an all-out attack on both your senses(hearing and sight) and your mind. They are like a 2010 combination of Portishead and Rage Against the Machine because of how their live show forces you to think about what's happening in the world and the possibilities of change through the revolution of thought.

I saw them a few months ago at the Wiltern and they were awesome, so my expectations were high. Needless to say, they didn't disappoint, the show was excellent! For a band who's been on the road for about 20 years I can only say that they keep innovating on the right direction, all the fans like myself were stoked. I'm fan of them for three years and never figured why they called Massive attack, after this performance in Berkeley - this is not a question any more. They attack you thru your ears, eyes, skin and finally "moving up slowly" along your the spine straight to your brain and totally blow your mind, but you feel so good of this! Sound was incredible, but visual show was beyond that. On the ticket was said "rain or shine" - it was definitely shining from the scene.

Thievery Corporation played forever and though they were ok, they weren't the act we were there to see. Once Massive Attack took to the stage, they played a very low key show and came out for only one encore performance. The main act ended up playing as long as the opening act which was very disappointing. I had high hopes for this concert because I am such a fan of Massive Attack but if this is indicative of the quality of their live performances, I will just enjoy the released recordings. It probably only deserved 2 stars, but I can't give Massive Attack 2 stars.

These two groups are great together and completely sold out the venue. Loved the light show in particular, which was great under a warm and starry sky.

Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation were amazing, but I can't say my experience at the show was all-around amazing too. The crowd was stupid and lame. Rude people are nasty and a lot of people in SB were rude, and inconsiderate of others. Also, who sits during a Massive Attack set? The answer to that is... lame people in SB. Nonetheless the talent was unforgettable!

Massive Attack has created one of the most unique sounds of a generation. To see it reproduced live was unequivocally badass! I was the only one in a group of 8 who absolutely loves the Bristol sound, whereas the rest just liked the lounge beats of Thievery. Both were excellent, but I love the heavy beats and political LED lightshows of Massive more. Plus, the Greek Theatre is an incredible venue, what acoustics!

The UCSD Rimac arena is basically a large college gymnasium (holds 5000) with bleachers and four clean walls for sound to reverberate and bounce off of. Thievery was late and didn't start until twenty minutes after 8pm. Since the tickets were GA we chose about 20 rows up at just about dead center. Thievery's mix was quite muddy most of the time and I couldn't understand any of the vocals. Being unable to hear the lyrics left me less than impressed even though I enjoyed most of the beats. Thievery ended after about an hour and twenty minutes. After 15 minutes to move out gear Massive Attack started. Massive was clearly mixed better, I could understand all vocals from the various singers. Some of the songs were re-engineered with some different sounding beats making some of the non die hard fans flee after sitting for about two hours. The lighting for both shows had a good variety about them, Massive used, in an interesting fashion, a long backdrop of LEDs to write political statements and messages on it. All in all a decent show, and I know that Trip Hop can't sound as precise, as say a classical orchestra, but for me it was a bit too loud and muddy sounding (especially Thievery Corp vocals) which can only be partially attributed to the venue.

I showed up to this event, venue fabulous, fashionably late only to find that the band that I was there to see, Thievery Corp. had already played and left! Being that Masive Attack was the first on the ticket I assumed they were the opening band, but no. After a while of hearing Attack I started to ask around only to find that many people had the same issue. I wonder if Thievery playing in So Cal the next night had anything to do with it? Anyways it was an excellent venue and Massive Attack was good, but not what I came for.....

I was in heaven. So happy Massive Attack played Mezzaine and new work like Atlas Air. Thievery Corporation was perfect playing Radio Retaliation and Babylon. The show was so perfect and so dead on. After the show was over everyone in the crowd couldn't stop saying how good the show was. I went to heaven

Both bands sounded great, but I thought that Massive Attack should have been the opener, only because of the energy of their music. They had high energy, but were definitely down tempo from Thievery Corporation, who freakin' rocked the joint! Massive Attack included a cool light show, but it was too much near the end. Lots of flashing lights and incredibly loud volume. Don't get me wrong, I like loud shows, but this was off the chart for me. I had to get a way from the lights after a while, it was uncomfortable. A visual massive attack, one might say :)

Thievery Corporation's live performance (by twelve people!) was great but they made the mistake of opening with their best-loved tunes e.g. "Lebanese Blonde" - some fans had not yet arrived or were still searching for seats. Massive Attack's propaganda machine blew my mind (again). A light show of incredible, infuriating and shocking statistics (that we strained to read from near the back/top of The Greek) was accompanied by a melancholic, Mezzanine-drenched soundtrack e.g. in Britain anyone can be detained without charge for up to 42 days. In USA, imprisonment is (still) indefinite. (Canada is a single day). The concert closed with the words "beyond petroleum"... PS A thick blanket to sit on makes all the difference!

It was my sixth time seeing Thievery, and I got just what I expected. I love them. Massive Attack was a new experience, and I LOVED it. So deep and dark at times, they were like organized fireworks. And that screen in the background made for a real theatrical performance.

Thievery Corporation used a lot of "San Diego" cheers to get the energy up from the crowd. I loved the quality of Massive Attack musicians. Matured.

Easily one of the best (if not the best) concerts I've ever had the pleasure of attending. A surprising amount of live singers added to the overall impressiveness of the performance. Very little sampling from both bands.

As good as I was expecting, actually Massive Attack was better. The set and the light show was pretty impressive, they played mostly the old school stuff, which made me happy.

At first I was confused as to why Thievery would open up, but after watching both performances it made sense!!! Thievery played all the right tracks for the bay area, and Massive Attack brought an amazing performance and message for the crowd. The overall performance had great balance and symetry. It just all seemed to make sense! Please come again soon!!!!

Massive Attack did not disappoint! We were in the pit so the view was perfect. Everyone on stage was absolutely passionate about the music and it was so fun to watch them perform. The light show and the displays on the screen were nice additions. I'm proud to say that Massive Attack sounds better live than in their recordings. If you have the chance to see them live, don't hesitate. They are worth it!

I guess Horace Andy "missed his plane from Jamaica" according to them, so he was sorely missed. But, Massive Attack was and still is magical. I just wish that Sinead O'Connor would make it to one of these events as her vocals are amazing on the songs she sings. Debra and Martina were their usual brilliant. The venue was just amazing, probably the best outdoor venue in So Cal. The Greek is also spectacular, but since this was in Santa Barbara, you really don't get that claustrophobic city feeling.

Any chance you get to see Massive Attack perform live is a dream show, and to see them at the Santa Barbara Bowl makes it even more beautiful. To have TV On The Radio open for them was the cherry on top on this party! Would love to relive this night.
