My wife and I try to hit several shows a year at the Tivoli in Chattanooga. We're more of a 'classic rock' couple, but we enjoy listening live to different types of music. Bottom line: we really enjoyed Dave Rawlings! Toe tapping Americana folk! Fantasic harmonies and lyrics. Will definitly see him again next time he rolls into town!

Dave Rawlings and friends were, once again, fantastic. I've seen him and Gillian (and others) play several times over the past 14 years, and I have never been disappointed. I love how well Dave and Gillian mesh and the ease and calm they bring to the stage. Dave's unique guitar sound always stands out and is a favorite. I very much enjoyed seeing Willie Watson, who brings a fun flare and talent (he was sorely missed at the last OCMS concert). Paul Kowert's deep bass and surprisingly sweet, melodic voice was a treat. And last but not least, I really enjoyed Brittany Haas on fiddle. She was fun to watch, and the addition of her sound to a couple songs I've heard live many times really opened them up and gave a wonderful deeper dimension. This was also my daughter's first concert. She's been a fan since she was about 3-4 yrs old. THIS band at THIS venue (a theater we both love) was the perfect choice, and I think she will cherish it forever.

Easily one of the top 5 shows I've ever seen and I've seen hundreds of concerts. Dave Rawlings is the best guitar player in that style I've seen. John Paul Jones and Gillian Welch and Willie Watson are all so talented as well. Bravo!

Dave was great, and so was Gillian, and John Paul Jones was wonderful too. Good mix of Dave tunes, Gil/Dave songs, classics and covers with fine sound in two sets. Problem was, the crowd in the theater seats stood throughout--those on the sides stayed seated. Never saw this before, and I did not appreciate it, nor did my friend with rheumatoid arthritis. The usher refused to do anything. :(

What an amazing concert by some of my most favorite artists! I have followed Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings for years. Just discovered Willie Watson recently and greatly admire his talent. JPJ on the mandolin... who could ask for more. But there was more.... beside loving the music so much... THE VENUE was perfect for this type of music. Dave played a song in the 2nd act that I had never heard before....I don't know the name of it but it brought me to tears. His instrumental intertwining with JPJ's work was seamless. Gillian's voice was rich and moving as always.

Incredibly tight musicianship lead by Dave Rawlings amazing guitar. Gillian's and Dave's songwriting rivals the best in any category of any era. The band created a loose, friendly, and energetic feel throughout the show.

I have a nephew who can do everything on a guitar that Dave did without all the bouncing and grimacing. Lines in songs repeated seemingly endlessly. Gillian Welch is probably better on her own. But it was pretty rockin', in a Santa Cruz way, and the final song had 'em dancin' in the aisles.

We attended their concert not being very familiar with them. We had only seen or heard them on the video of the Another Day, Another Time concert which T Bone Burnett put together. To say we were drawn in by their live performance would be understatement. They are musicians of incredible talent who blend together so well. Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch and Willie Watson make you feel you are listening to far more than three voices. If you get a chance to attend a concert, do so. If not, go to YouTube and be entertained.

UTMOST GRATITUDE TO THE PERFORMERS FOR COMING CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME TO EXPERIENCE A HEART FULL OF GLORY, IF ONLY FOR A MOMENT IN THIS TEXAS GIRLS' HEART.

Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch always bring the energy for a great show!!! The additions in the band have brought great their own amazing talents in to compliment with such solid performances. Tatiana Hargreaves killed it on the fiddle. Ol' Willie Watson brought in some great vocal accompaniments and great humor. And, finally Paul Kowert holding down the Bass fiddle and some fine vocals to boot.

The evening was wonderful with the group doing new songs from the new CD along with some of their standards. Each of the musicians played and sang at least one song alone (solo) and Gillian had a few more moments to star. Dave played his finger picking style of guitar to the delight of me and the audience. A Wonderful evening of music at DPAC.

This show was outstanding. I have long been a fan of Dave and Gillian's work, and the new album is excellent, so my expectations were very high already. That said, my expectations were exceeded with an impressive tour de force of superlative singing, exceptional harmonies, and phenomenal musicianship. I could not stop smiling all the way home. The next day I immediately looked for the locations of the next shows so I could recommend them to my friends and family and maybe even go again myself. What a great night and a real treat for lovers of great singing and musicianship.

I had read in many different venues that Dave Rawlings Machine is one live concert you should go out of your way to see. I was blown away. I'd never heard Dave Rawlings Machine live, and until the other night had only listened to Gillian Welch's music on CDs. But the band definitely won me over! Beautiful harmonies, tight band, interesting songs, and amazing violin playing (and I am NOT a violin lover most of the time - it takes a special violin player to make me smile). The audience was so enthusiastic, and it definitely helped the band bring their best. In the end, they even did a bunch more songs as encores! It was like getting a third set free. Every note was spot on, every musician was incredible, every voice was beautiful. Great energy, wonderful emotion. Loved every second.

The Dave Rawlings Machine definitely doesn't disappoint. This group is the greatest. Dave Rawlings masterful guitar, banjo. Gillian Welch ...one of a kind, angelic, haunting. Rawlings and Welch set a new standard for songwriting. Or maybe they reach so far back they're able to send listeners soul travelling. In NY's big stage Beacon Theatre -- only five musicians -- and they fill that place with sound. No tricks, no gimmicks, no foolin around -- just bare bones brilliance. Happy to be able to say, I WAS THERE!

We drove all the way down from far eastern Maine to attend this concert, and I would have driven even "500 miles" further! What a treat - Dave Rawlings has put together an amazing line up for his Nashville Obsolete tour, including Willie Watson,Paul Kowert, and Brittany Haas on fiddle. The concert featured some new tunes from the Nashville Obsolete album, some older tunes, and Gillian singing "Miss Ohio"...I can't just pick one favorite moment, the entire show was over the moon for me. If I could, I would be a "tour junkie" for this one - if they come anywhere near you, and you love Americana music, don't miss it!

Dave Rawlings, accompanied by by Gillian Welch, Wille Watson, Brittany Haas, and Paul Kowart, performed two sets and a lengthy encore over about two and half hours, delighting an enthusiastic crowd with virtuosic instrumentals, gorgeous three-part harmonies, and a set list that spanning The Machine's two albums, a few choice covers, and two entries from the Gillian Welch songbook. In addition to Mr. Rawlings unique, mesmerizing, style of flat picking, Brittany Haas (of Crooked Still) provided some thrilling fiddle solos, and also very capably replicated many of the string parts from the album Nashville Obsolete. And in addition to his contributions to the vocal harmonies. Willie Watson took the lead on tow folk songs, "Long John Dean" and "Stewball," both from his fine debut album, Folk SInger, Vol. 1.

Now that I have moved on a little in age I only see between 6 and 15 concerts a year as opposed to my youth going out all the time. I must say that this show ranked up with probably my favorite in the past ten years or SO. The song selection, the musical and vocal accomplishments their musicianship was all TOP DRAWER. I even loved the venue and the easiness and price of parking. My only complaint was that it was too damn hot in there. A little cooler, a little mor eair and concert would go from a 9.5 to 13.

Excelant show, would recommend to everyone. Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch (both Berklee Alumni) perform and surround themselves with the very best artists for their genre. Willie Watson has a very unique voice and is a very talented musician. (I look forward to seeing his solo work). John Paul Jones (A rock legend) impressed me his versatility and his willingness to stand in the shadows! Paul Kowert, like Willie Watson, I'm unfamiliar with, but demonstrated a very good voice (when called upon) and very musically inclined. Both have associated themselves with very talented people.

The music as good. Expected more than a glorified salute to Dave Rawlings. Had hoped that Willie Watson would be singing more of his own songs instead of being part of the entire set. There was no connection between Dave and the audience. Awkward silence while instruments were tuned. Won't be attending any of Dave or Gillian concerts.

Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch, John Paul Jones, Willie Watson, and Paul Kowert rolled the Machine into Nashville and put on an amazing show! They performed standards such as "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", "This Land is Your Land", they covered Bob Dylan's "Queen Jane Approximately", Neil Young's "Cortez, the Killer", Led Zeplin's "Goin' to California", and the "Go To Sleep Little Baby" a Capella refrain from "Oh Brother Where Art There". They performed many of Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch's catalogue. They played over 3 hours with only one brief intermission. They gave 3 encores. The audience was absolutely spellbound.
