Hadouken!
One of the many indie bands that fought for the title "Voice of Young Britain 2008," Hadouken! arrived with the manifesto "We are the wasted youth/And we are the future too." Naming themselves after a special move from the video game Street Fighter, the band combined indie rock, rave culture, and grime influences to create music that sounded like Lords of Acid, Dizzee Rascal, and Test Icicles played all at once. They came together in late 2006 when two Leeds University students -- James Smith and Daniel Rice -- decided to do things backwards and first form a record label -- Surface Noise Records -- and then form a band. In early 2007, Mike Skinner -- the man behind the U.

I loved all of their songs! I wish they'd played "Abigail" but I realize there were logistics in the way. They were also very nice after the show, talking with everyone and being very friendly. They even gave my sister one of their CDs because even though she listens to their songs on loop on YouTube, she has never owned a hard copy. It was so sweet!

The interview dialogue was too long and musical selections too short. Most of us that were of age when he came up, wanted to hear more of his discography. We knew it was to be scripted as a combination interview and performance, but it was not balanced.

The venue is quite cavernous and echoey - it was consistently difficult to hear clear vocals with all three bands. Of course Surfer Blood ruled - awesome energy for the very first night of their tour!

Great show! Bowery Ballroom is a good sounding venue, and the crowd carried the band along. Good times!

This was a great show. A few rain delays and it got cut short due to a storm but none the less it was awesome. This is a really nice venue with the two stage setup. I didn't like that you couldn't get back to the second stage until after the first stage performers were done though. Can't wait to go back to The Woods at Fontanel for another show.

His genius seeps through the walls. I've never seen someone so able to anticipate their own moves, looping several string parts over each other, improvising left and right, singing over irregular meter. Classically trained and with the times, absolutely recommended.

As always this tribute band makes you feel as though you are watching the real band. Everything is accurate right down to the manorism's of the band. To top the experience off the are the nicest group of guys and down to earth. This was a great show and we will go see them whenever they are in NY..
