This was a truly special event. The small size of the venue enhanced the level of intimacy that Jeff shares with his fans through his music. I waited a long time for this and was not disappointed. Julian Koster opened with his band, The Music Tapes, and he accompanied Jeff on Ghost with the singing saw. I had goosebumps through the whole show. I actually got to meet the man himself because of some perfect, but unintentional, timing. A magical, magical night. We sat in the very back of the balcony for this show. The next night we had tickets in box H. With the view I had on night number two, it was even better than the first time around.

For the past few years, once I truly got into attending live concerts, I've been waiting for the day that I could see Jeff Mangum play live, and I was absolutely thrilled to have such an opportunity. When I first purchased my tickets, I was honestly unsure of what to expect. I had seen fantastic reviews of Mangum's show, but I wasn't sure if I could actually trust those reviews or if those were just fans with such extreme bias that the show could have been terrible and they would have still had a fantastic time. Needless to say, the show lived up to the hype. Mangum was truly a fantastic performer. He kept the crowd involved and played each song with such great emotion that you could not help but have a good time. The setting was so intimate and personal, as Mangum sat center stage with 4 acoustic guitars. It was honestly such a great experience, and I would urge any fan of Jeff Mangum to take any opportunity to see him that presents itself.

It was the show of a lifetime. Unforgettable. He has clearly had enough time out of the public eye to really sincerely be into touring again. Such an emotional experience. His voice was beautiful and it carried throughout the theatre perfectly, even over the audience singing along. Truly life-changing. He played a lot of both albums, and also some unreleased stuff...and then graced us with an encore.

The show was everything NMH fans have been waiting for. Jeff played all the greatest gems, with the exception of Baby for Pree. Why no Baby for Pree?! His singing and playing were powerful and mesmerizing. Don't miss this show!

It really doesn't get much better. Voice was perfect, felt an close connection to him. At times it felt like we were all sitting around a campfire for a sing along. I knew it was going to be epic, but it exceeded even my highest expectations.

The venue is beautiful and the staff managed the madness of the crowd very well. Andrew, Scott, and Laura were fun and eclectic and, of course, Jeff Mangum did not disappoint. At the very end, when Jeff was playing Two Headed Boy, he invited the crowd to get out of their seats and stand near the stage. I have seen numerous shows ruined by aggressive security personnel, but this time security respectively stepped down upon Jeff's request. I was on a balcony and couldn't join the crowd, but nonetheless that was probably the highlight of the event for me.

Is there really anything to say? It's Jeff Mangum. It was how I imagine the return of Jesus to be. Some were watching reverently, some were crying, some looked to be praying. All sang loudly and happily. Jeff played magnificently and sounded better than on the albums. That's about it I guess.

Jeff Mangum's performance at the Lincoln Theatre was simply astounding. His voice delicately carried each note that seemed to hang just above our heads. The show was short due to Jeff's finite setlist, but each song brought back special memories as the crowd sang each tune back toward the stage. This was a chance of a lifetime, and I am so thankful for his return, although brief. From the first moment I heard NMH in Ruston, LA in 1994 I knew Jeff was a magical gift to music.

It was incredibly moving to finally hear Jeff's beautiful and haunting lyrics sung live. Amazing show. Unforgettable performance. One great moment was a bit of an irreverent comment that Jeff made after a bunch of the audience members were shouting out specific songs. To these he asked if we had any from the past ten years. It's a pretty grounding thing when an artist as talented as Jeff is to be able to laugh at himself.

Unforgettable! The only time I've seen a musician come back for a second encore after the house lights came up and half the crowd had left, because we all continued to cheer so hard. He gives all of himself and more to each song. Must be exhausting! I'll be first in line to see him again. Well worth the decade plus wait.

From the opening band till the encore this was far and away the best show I've seen in a long, long time. Mangum's voice is as strong and instrumental as his glory days and the theater sound system captured it perfectly. Props to the whimsical opener, very entertaining stuff. 5 stars hands down.

Over the past few and next few months many people will be able to say they've been graced with the presence of Jeff Mangum but not many can say they saw him front row, standing General admission with no barricades separating the stage from the fans. During "In the Aeorplane..." and "Engine" Jeff and Julian even came into the middle of the crowd just like at Occupy Wall St. It was magical. Even fewer will be able to say they have a drawing made personally by Jeff and Julian Koster. This was most certainly one of the best experiences of my life. The echoing voices of the happy crowd and the smile on Jeff's face time and time again are grand memories I will take to my grave. I am so thankful.

Jeff Mangum is rumored to be a lot of things: a recluse, borderline crazy, a total mystery. That said, he was none of those things when I saw him last week in Toronto... he was just one of the most humble, talented musicians I have ever seen perform. His voice was flawless. His guitar work was spot on. I have not a single complaint about the show. This show was one of the top 5 shows I have ever seen. Furthermore, I would recommend this venue to anybody who has a chance to see a favorite band at St. Paul's. That said - regardless of who you see, it won't be as good as this one was.

So many of my close friends admire Jeff as a person and musician and have little stories of some fleeting connection they had with Jeff and or the past members of Neutral Milk Hotel I felt very fortunate to be able to witness Jeff perform his songs that I and everyone at the show can agree mean so much to us for various reasons, mostly because we feel the love. Jeff conveyed that same love that came through recordings we're all familiar with. His performance was pure and transcended any previous notion I've had of musicians I like not meeting my expectations with their level of talent and expression. Jeff met my expectations and exceeded them. I probably dont ever have to see Jeff play ever again and at the same time I would watch and listen to any and every performance he will ever do again if I could.

I was excited to see Jeff Mangum live for the first time in my life. The openers were pretty good, but didn't blow me out of the water. I was pretty happy with how many instruments they could play. What's up with the 45 minute set change for 8 guitars and a bassoon? Mangum started out slow, and by slow I mean that he was trying to pump out the first 5 songs extremely quickly and his voice was a bit rough and his playing was a bit rough. As the concert went on, both his voice and playing got way better. Overall he played a good show. It was good to see him.

Incredible. I am a huge fan and he did not disappoint. He came out for two encores and demanded that the audience sing along. Absolute home run. I feel so lucky to have seen Jeff Mangum perform live. Oakland's Fox Theater was an excellent venue. This was a pretty bare bones performance and if you want to get a flavor for what this show is like, check out Jeff's album called Live at Jittery Joe's. A notable exception was that on a number of tunes members of The Gerbils and Elf Power came out to accompany Jeff with horns and other exciting instruments. A must see event!

What in this world has awakened the sleeping giant Jeff Mangum to grace us with his powerful and meditative droning once again? The humble genius doesn't say, but those fortunate enough to keep an ear to the ground carry the vibrations from the dream that was Monday night's show with them for the rest of their lives. A bare minimalist set, a rag tag of band mates, and a simple set of guitars fused with such unearthly synergy that one wonders if an experience could be matched ever again.

I just never thought I was ever going to see Jeff on tour. I'm really happy that he was at the Fox. The acoustics were great, the crowd was manageable and the show was just straight forward. Jeff Mangum was great. Put on an impressive show largely on his own with a guitar and sometimes with members of the opening band. Speaking of which ... Elf Power? Elf People? I can't remember. What I will never forget is that they might have been the worst opening band I've ever seen. It was the dissonant cover of Frank Sinatra's "It was a Very Good Year" that really took the taco for me. It hurt my head. It hurt my sense of tone and rhythm. And it made me sad for Frank Sinatra. Mangum, however, did not disappoint and I would recommend him if you're a fan of Neutral Milk Hotel.

Jeff was great to see, and I'm glad that I did, his show was short though for the amount of money it cost, only an hour or so. I also wish he had a band with him like he did on the albums, and since he didn't , I wish he played his earlier stuff more like "My dream don't exist" and "everything is", but that's just me be a sucka eating sour grapes, he performed really great and I would see him again, I'd just sit closer to stage so he could here my request better.

Fantastic show and a fantastic venue. The acoustics are great at the State Theater, so that is sounds and feels like a much more intimate venue. And boy, did Jeff fill the room with just his guitar and his voice. He really gave each song everything he's got. The energy in the crowd was just phenomenal, ecstatic and transfixed at the same time, and Jeff seemed to feed on the vibe, reaching new peaks again and again. I was disappointed by the opening act\u2014from Elephant 6 bands, including Gerbils, I believe. They're great musicians and seemed very talented, but neither my wife nor I liked their set choices. They performed various cover songs, folk/traditional tunes and some of their own with plenty of subtlety and emotion. They *never* varied the tempo, however, and each song was just as sleepily meandering as the next. All they needed were rocking chairs to complete the picture. Their set therefore seemed much longer than it probably was, but in any case I was about to scream in frustration by the time they finally quit. Jeff Mangum immediately made me forget any bad taste in my ears, and I still give the show 5 BIG STARS\u2014he's *that* good!

Jeff Mangum's rare performance at the Spreckel's Theater was primarily a solo acoustic affair, although he did have a cellist accompany him on a couple of numbers. Drawing exclusively from the Neutral Milk Hotel records on the 1990s, Mangum's warm reception was disrupted repeatedly by overzealous and inconsiderate audience members who apparently wanted to be seen and heard by the reclusive songwriter. One low point was when a young woman in the balcony screamed "Impregnate me!!" Mangum sang throughout all of the audience's infantile stupidity, although one can't help but wonder if the brevity of the show was not one result of the audience's rude treatment of him.

It was truly spectacular to finally catch Jeff live, and his performance did not disappoint. However, about a dozen drunk and/or inappropriate audience members seemed to visibly frustrate him and distract the more respectful members of the audience. Yelling "I love you" and things about how you want to have his babies? Taking flash photography or videos when it's clearly posted that that's not permitted? Come on. This is a quiet indie-folk show. That kind of behavior is clearly disrupting the connection the performer's trying to make with his audience. At one point, he seemed to me like he could easily have walked off stage in frustration. I'm surprised he did an encore at all.

Jeff was fantastic, as expected! Wow, he grew a big beard. If you enjoy Neutral Milk Hotel then you will enjoy his show as he plays almost the entire Aeroplane album among other great selections too. Julian and the Music Tapes were really great too if you enjoy their style. I thought the Tall Firs were a little boring, but not bad at all. One venue issue is that they serve a lot of alcohol here and the audience was a bit obnoxious because of it. If you want to stand and go up front, it might be a bit better, but if you want a chair be warned. There were noisy people behind me throughout, except when Jeff came on they had the sense to can it.

Second time seeing Jeff, like a lot of people there his music is hugely important to me and hits close every time. His shows are almost beyond description in a weird, hypnotic way. After the first two songs he called everyone out of their seats and encouraged us to come closer, lean on the stage, so we did. Like some type of religious service except in attendance are a lot of hooting hooligans that shout "I love your sweater" and "nice beard" between songs, hoping to get a response from Jeff on high, who often does interact, gracious humble often funny. Jeff's songs, to me, are as cleverly written as any, and the lyrics, though sometimes cryptic or just nonsensical, are somehow really identifiable and touching. At most concerts, there are some songs you cross your fingers for and others you hope aren't on the setlist, but every single song Jeff has is someone's favorite and none of them disappoint. Poor thing was squirting throat drugs into his mouth the whole time - he must've been getting a cold or something, but he sounded positively fantastic. Saying this was the best concert I've ever been to doesn't really cover it. Once the show had ended and the house lights went up, I walked out of the theatre into the lazily falling snowflakes. There is no more appropriate weather condition for a Jeff Mangum concert and it was amazing and the icing on the cake. I will go anywhere, pay whatever I've got, any time to see Jeff play. There is a peace and a happiness I feel at his shows that I don't get anywhere else. Sounds ridiculous, but it's absolutely true.

There are no words to describe Jeff's performance. I was blown away. The fact that I was seeing him play, on stage, at Liberty Hall was enough to get me excited. It was one of the most intimate concerts I have ever been too. I will most certainly be telling my children, many years down the road, about the time I saw Jeff Mangum play in Lawrence, KS. Thanks for coming out, Jeff, and playing the music we love and appreciate.

Mr. Mangum's performance was absolutely delightful! I'd pay twice what I did just to experience it again. If you love his music, I don't think anything more needs to be said.

Jeff Mangum is the lead songwriter of the near mythical indie group, Neutral Milk Hotel. After spending most of the 2000s in silence, Jeff has finally emerged in the spotlight and began touring yet again. His show at the Southern Theater in Columbus is part of his "final acoustic tour" and he sure put his heart into it. The openers were meh (very bland and sleepy music) but they meant nothing once the real show began. The INSTANT Jeff walked onstage, the room burst into cheers. After a minute or two straight of clapping, Jeff broke into the epic "Oh Comely" (whose start was also met by many cheers) After the first track was over and the applauding died down, Jeff invited the audience on the ground floor (including myself) to come closer! I bolted from my seat and ended up on a stair, eye-level with Jeff, about 25 feet from the stage. I stood in that very spot for the rest of the hour and a quarter performance, singing and cheering along with the rest of the crowd. Jeff was very relaxed and looked happy to be on stage! His banter with the crowd (I did a lot of joking with him inbetween songs) was very happy and he was just grateful to have an audience. When the show was over and Jeff had concluded his encore (the crowd wasn't leaving until it happened!) I left in utter awe. It was a religious experience, and Jeff was the priest who lead the entire crowd. God bless the King.

Jeff howls out his vocals and strums his songs on acoustic guitars. It is an amazing sight to behold and I felt lucky to have been there. Buy the records and go to a show, if Jeff has the desired affect on you.

Great crowd, great venue, and even greater music. This was the best show I've been to so far this year. I never thought I'd get a chance to see Jeff Mangum play so this was a real treat and surpassed all my expectations.

I've probably been to hundreds of concerts over the years in LA and this has to be by far the most special night of music I've ever seen.

No words can describe the joy Jeff Mangum brought! I literally left speechless and in awe of how powerful the show could be. he preformed 80% by him self and brought out a horn section on the necessary songs.

Jeff Mangum is my religion. Period. Thank you for creating your words which call us in, a gorgeous raw voice, sometimes screaming, and humility which is rare and real. That concert on 4/23, which was packed to the rafters (literally... standing room only for the back row of the balcony), and I hope everyone lucky enough to be there basked in the glow of what for me was a very spiritual experience.
