Pimps of Joytime put on an entertaining show, mostly funky and bordering on trance-y at times. They have a great rhythm section, with a super-tight drummer and a Sheila E-style conga player who occasionally transitioned into some tribal grooves. A few songs made it obvious that they were playing to a track with some instrumentalists who clearly weren't on stage, but maybe that's just their stripped-down touring lineup (they're originally from Brooklyn, NY). However the opening act, Con Brio, was every bit as good and entirely live. Con Brio put on a nonstop dance-funk groove, fronted by a lead singer who's the second coming of Michael Jackson. Definitely try to catch these guys if you can.

Jared is the next big thing. his compilation of various styles of music is unique and unforgettable. You can tell through his performances that he is meant to be on stage. He has great chemistry with his band and they work together to make an unforgettable show.

There were approximately 8 cast members, half male and half female. None of them sounded or looked remotely like Johnny Cash. Hearing high voiced women singing several of Johnny Cash's most popular songs left lots to be desired. We could not believe the cast member singing Man in Black was not dressed in black ... but a dopey outfit that looked like it came from Fiddler on the Roof. We had never heard of two-thirds of the songs. The singers were not bad singers .. just not appropriate for the part. Rent a Johnny Cash movie or play one of his albums but do NOT go see this.

I had listened to a couple of Cloud Nothing's songs and bought a ticket for $20. Always like the Teragram. Wow and wow and wow, This band is so in sync with each other. Every song pulled me in a little more. Had had had to get closer to the stage and the energy of people dancing. Played I think 3 songs for an encore. Coulda stayed for more.

They performed on Memorial Glade at UC Berkeley for Cal Day. Long 1 hour+ set, played most of their songs. They sound great live. They even included a Berkeley local in their show. Miles and other band members interacted with fans after the show, chatting and signing posters. Miles seemed truly humbled by the number of fans that showed up - kept thanking the audience and making self deprecating comments. I will definitely watch them live again.
