Lulu
Leo Sayer and Lulu two legends of British pop unite on stage for a special and rare concert tour. While this is Lulu’s first ever tour to Australia it also will be her very first time performing together with Leo Sayer in a full concert programme.Lulu was the wee woman from Glasgow with the huge lungs who went toe to toe with the big boys and frequently came out on top. On the scene since rock ’n’ roll went pop in the mid 60’s, the raw-throated emotion of her calling card To Sir with Love was the theme song she sang for the film starring Sidney Poitier and in which she also appeared.

This is the second time I've seen Lulu at BB Kings in NYC. She was SUPERB!!!!! I hope she returns again and again. Her voice is like fine wine, it has gotten better with age (68 years young).

The concert was terrific. Lulu has the energy of a teenager. Her voice is still strong. She fascinated the audience with stories about her past including her childhood in poverty, her mother's love of all things American, and, my favorite, the one thing that led her to superstardom. It was a wonderful night at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, hearing and seeing the legendary Lulu!!!!

It was such a treat to see Lulu live! Her concert was fabulous. She had a short introduction to almost all of the songs, which added to the show. It is obvious she loves to perform. I thought she was cute in 1967; she's still cute in 2017!!!!!!!

Lulu rocked the house at B.B. Kings on Tuesday with a vocal style like no other. Mixing in great stories of her career, especially her relationship with Maurice Gibb, and the BeeGees. Had not heard "I could never Miss you " in years, and remembered the connection I had with the song. The band was terrific, with great Guitar playing, and singing support especially on "I don't want to fight" and" Wait for me" Can't wait for her return to the states for another longer tour.

We saw Lulu at B.B.King's club in New York City four years ago and she was incredible. Now back on a limited US/Canada tour, this was her first concert. This icon from England had phenomenal success here in the US with "To Sir, With Love" (the number one record of 1967) and went on to have some other Top 40 hits. She performs some of those : "I Could Never Miss You," "The Boat That I Row,"and "Oh Me Oh My" and sounds even better than on the records. While at B.B. King's, she did an Al Green arrangement of "To Sir," here she did it like on the record - and proved that her voice is intact - if not even better. This is one artist who has the power and strength vocally of a 30 year old ! She is in her prime now vocally - which is absolutely amazing. She performed her number one British hit "The Man Who Sold The World" in a tribute to friend David Bowie, a couple of outstanding covers of Bee Gees tunes in a tribute to them, and tells stories about her career and other singers she encountered along the way. Her version of "I Don't Want To Fight" which she co-wrote and Tina Turner recorded is outstanding and very heartfelt. "Everything Single Day" from her 2015 studio album is a rocker that proves just how contemporary she can sound. If you saw her at B.B King's and were amazed, too, you will definitely want to see this show. Some new songs, new stories, and a voice and stage presence that can only be described as masterful. There is no one like her vocally - past or present. A genuinely brilliant vocalist. Our friend said afterward that Lulu was made by God to sing and that gift to us just keeps on giving. Talented back up band, too.

LULU and her special night band put on a great show Saturday night at BB KINGS. It was cold outside but LULU had the venue hot and rockin with her arrangements of great songs. LULU with a little help from her friends the band and backup singers, gave a stunning performance, the sound was tight and smooth, as if they play together every night. You could hear & feel the talent of each person on the stage and LULU looked and sounded amazing. If you weren't there you really missed a good one.

Lulu looks fabulous and sounds great. Enjoyed the performance. She has so much material over the years, though, that you will only get a small sampling of what she's done, especially since she likes to sing songs recorded by others. Not crazy, however, about the venue (BB Kings) Had to stand in line from 5:30pm to 7:45pm to get in....only to be seated in the far right upper level. Lots of people who were never in line got in and were seated in the choicest of seats. They were called "special guests". Website says "first come, first seated"....very misleading.

Lulu was great. Far better than what I had supposed. The problem was ... too many people in the house. Lots of standing audience blocked my sights. I never had a chance to glance Paul Shaffer. She was always standing in the far left side. Why not center, where the guitarist was sitting. Audience on my side .. everyone was complaining why she ignored us.

Lulu's performance and voice were outstanding. The venue was sold out and packed. Standing room only. When Lulu hit and held certain notes, the crowd screamed and applauded. Every song was met with thunderous applause. Many standing ovations. No diva here - Lulu was down to earth, friendly, very appreciative of the crowd, funny, youthful, and amazingly energetic. She's mesmerizing to watch and hear. Lulu's stories before she sang songs were fascinating as she recollected an over 40 year career, singers she has known, and unrivaled experiences. Even our 20 year old son (a college student who regularly sees other concerts and club acts) said she was amazing - the best live singing voice he has ever heard. The crowd loved her, and she loved them back. Lulu was obviously having fun - and so was the audience. A great time was had by all ! Highlights : Unchain My Heart, 25 Miles, Oh Me Oh My, I Don't Wanna Fight Anymore, Shout, and, of course, To Sir With Love. It's time for Lulu to release a new U.S.-made album - and re-conquer this side of the pond.

Lulu sang a great set of her own songs and classic American r and b songs, backed by members of the fab faux and the inimitable Paul schaefer. Her voice was strong and the band, consisting of some of the best musicians in town, was impeccable. Her al green inspired version of to sir with love was perfect.

A great band, an iconic singer and that oh, so great iconic song -- I guess for us Boomers who saw the film and never dreamed we would hear Lulu in person it was a bucket list moment. It sure was for me. Lulu stood on that stage for near two hours and gave her all. She even admitted her age -- 64 -- which drew gasps from my friends but damn, she looks great and sounds great. Sure, it's not the same voice when she was 16 but we knew that. We were just happy to be in that place at that time listening and watching. An evening I will never forget. The only crinkle in this review -- BB Kings. My goodness gracious, did they crush us all in there. I'm fairly certain I got the blood type of the woman I was sitting next to as I was sooooo close to her and at one point I looked around and the place was not just standing room only, it was MOBBED. An unbelievable crush of people but dear God in heaven was it worth it.

A fantastic set of '60s R&B covers. Lulu's singing was strong and gutsy, the band and backup singers were spot on. It was a pleasure to hear this veteran singer performing songs that she loves and by performers that influenced her. Of course, To Sir With Love was a highlight, done with a touch of soul, ala Al Green! I have one major complaint, though. The venue was oversold. We bought tickets a week before that even had seat numbers on them. We arrived an hour before showtime to find it was standing room only. Only there wasn't any place to stand! People were packed in like sardines all around the side of the room and bar. It was worse than the D train at rush hour. Who wants to pay nearly $100 for two tickets and have such an uncomfortable experience? Plus, the guy next to us sang along loudly on every song! We finally asked him to stop, which he did, but then he talked incessantly. But that didn't spoil the show, which was thrilling.
