Back N Black - Ac/DC Tribute

Let me make this clear: to the best of my knowledge, the Back N Black I am reviewing is NOT the same AC/DC tribute band that plays all these shows in Georgia. This group is Bay Area-based and they don't seem to stray too far from there, also, they used to be called Riff Raff. These guys were actually not the headliners, that would be Roses N' Guns, a Guns N' Roses tribute, whilst the opening band of the night was the Iron Maiden tribute group, Maiden California. Their renditions of Iron Maiden songs were fairly impressive and they even had the spoken-word intro to "Number Of The Beast", but there was one thing that bugged me: the lead singer would sing noticeably higher at certain parts in the songs than Bruce Dickinson does on the recordings. I mean, I could understand not being able to sing as high, because Bruce is an opera-trained vocalist, but how do you sing HIGHER than that and not have your bandmates say "you messed up"? On to Back N Black. They were the audience favorite. They did a remarkably good job on the Bon Scott-era songs and likewise on the Brian Johnson-era songs. The only real problem was that during most of the latter songs, their singer would briefly do this, sort of, I guess I would call it high-pitched rapping. To their credit, I saw them about a month later and he was singing normally. They were better that time (I submitted a review of that show a couple days ago). The headlining act was Roses N' Guns. I can legitimately say the first thing I noticed was that their lead guitarist's top hat was too short and their lead singer looks more like Bret Michaels than Axl Rose. They put on a great performance, despite this. I would say they probably sound better than the real thing, at this point. They also had the amp for the bass guitar turned way up, but it was less annoying, as opposed to interesting.

These guys were really good. Some really cool early Floyd with some Animals and Meddle for good measure. Highly Recommend. Oh by the way, which ones pink?

Acoustics were amazing and they sounded just like they do on the cd. By far my most favorite band to see in concert... 4 times now. Played a great mix of new and old. Must experience concert that's for sure!

Best desert stoner rock band ever. This dumb review plat form says my review text is to short so I'm writing something dumb like the fact that it thought my review was to short and stuff.

Travelled from Florida to see this event, and was not disappointed. It's a great feeling to walk away from a concert feeling high on life. Great music, amazing voices and the musicians are second to none. Check out Whiskey Gentry every opportunity you get! Merry Christmas Y'all

That was my first event at the Union, the layout and the sound was amazing. Monster Truck is now on my top 3 list of most loudest bands I've ever seen. Not only that, the stage presence was unprecedented. Greatest rock band on the scene right now.

Austra

Having seen them three times in the last year, this band has grown from being an opening act to the main event--but never anything less than an amazement, an ever-evolving ensemble that is as exciting to see as they are to hear. (This is pure, young concert-going without the pretense, stripped of everything but terrific music and shattering talent.) Stelmanis, in particular, now *owns* the stage--the fact that these guys haven't stopped touring since May, 2011 is indicative of their incredible dedication and passion, and the fact that they have become one hell-of-a live act to experience. Confident, quirky and bold, there was no surprise that this particular venue sold out...or that Austra was cheered-on to do a double-encore. And yet, as always, they remain humble, quietly chatting with fans in the lobby after the show.

My wife's grandfather sang in the Glee Club in the late 1890's. And the tradition continues. What a display of a cappella singing.
