DevilDriver

DevilDriver has carved out a place for themselves in the metal world by churning out groove-oriented, riff-heavy music that serves the artistic vision of the band, rather than the whimsical trends of mainstream music. This approach is ever apparent on Winter Kills, the band's recent release on Napalm Records. Live concerts give ticket holders their money's worth and feature the band's founder and frontman Dez Fafara engaging with audiences in a one-on-one style exchange that uses the band's best to bring out the crowd's best. The legendary circle-pit concerts deliver a seamless sonic blast of DevilDriver's hit songs.

Didn't let me down. Tix were $15, and one the best shows that I have seen. Sick of paying $60 for shows in a huge venue and crappy seats. DevilDriver is ON!

The Culture Room has the atmosphere and sound that fits loud, powerful Metal music. The main atraction for me was the dinamic due of Goatwhore and Suffocation playing short but intense sets. Goatwhore's style encompases everyhthing that makes extreme rock appealing to old scholers and younger audiences wanting to experience trends-free Metal. As for Suffocation, I was impressed, thrilled, and happy to see them finally for the first time. Being an old fan of their pummeling Death Metal style, I was a bit aprehensive about how the sound will affect the bands performance. I'm glad to report that the power of the music was preserved and the sound came clear and loud. Overall, the night was filled with excellent music and great people. I'll come back in the future for sure!

This was possibly the best event at Starland Ballroom I've ever attended. The crowd was small, so nobody was pushing towards the front. I got there after the first opener, but Thy Will Be Done and all bands after were amazing. TWBD's performance even as an opener was impecable. I greatly anticipated seeing Goatwhore since I got the tickets, and was in no way disappointed. Suffocation could have done better, I hadn't heard any of their music before and I wasn't sure if it was just their style or if their performance as louder than they could handle, but it sounded like a lot of noise. Of course, Behemoth was definitely a hilight. They are always exciting and theatrical, but seeing them UP CLOSE in the famous little venue that is Starland Ballroom was a far beyond epic experience. By the time DevilDriver performed, I was crowdsurfing and just enjoying the hell out of the whole experience and finishing off my night. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED

Behemoth is one of the most intense live acts touring. Not big on listening to their albums but will alwys keep an eye out to catch them live. Devildriver was an added bonus. Frontman Dez is really into what he does, and singing for a metal band he does superbly.

I did not attend to see Devildriver, I wanted to see the opening band Suffocation. They were technically incredible and their energy was unmatched. LOVED IT!! Only thing I hated was this is supposed to be a non-smoking club and there was smoking which kind of ruins it

This is my third time seeing DevilDriver. I saw them when they were supporting the release of The Fury of Our Maker's Hand, then for The Last Kind Words, and how for Pray for Villians. Both times prior, they were amazing. This time, the band was still spot-on, but Dez looked high as a kite. My wife thought he was going to fall over between singing. His eyes looked almost all closed, and the only things he said were "how are you guys doing" and "I don't have anything to say." And he said both of those a lot. Then he made some comment about "focusing on performing, not talking," which I took to be his botched attempt to say "look guys, I smoked too much weed and I at least owe it to you to perform my best as I struggle to get through a 13-song set." I wondered how ironic he felt when he performed "I've Been Sober." His vocal performance was pretty on par with the last two times I saw him, although he left out a few lines here and there as he struggled to get by. It was probably like 5 or 6 times total. The most annoying part was the first 100 customers won a meet and greet at 6pm. I was probably 30th in line to enter the building, and upon entering around 6:10 or 6:15 there was no band. We stood around maybe thinking they'd block off the pit before letting the rest of the ticketholders in at 6:30, and we'd have a bit to get things signed until the opener would come on. So we waited and waiting, and something the owner at Alrosa said before the opener came on led us to believe they were meeting fans for all of 5 minutes. Not sure if that was the venue's fault, the band's fault, or just a communication breakdown, but after seeing how high Dez was, it was pretty disappointing.

Awesome to see bands come together like this at a small venue. Sets: Local Band (Skeletonwitch?) - was in line Thy Will Be Done - heavy as hell, heh Goatwhore - heavier and satanic Suffocation - brutally heavy, ruthlessly loud, I think the devil was their lead vox DevilDriver - heavy and groovy, really got the crowd going

Devildriver topped the list of acts I'd wanted to see and they didn't disappoint. Played many of my favorite songs including Grinf..cked. Devildriver energy was lacking. Maybe they have been on the road to long and need a break. This is not to say the show wasn't awesome. Even at devildrivers worst is still better than most bands.. The band that stole the show was Lincoln NE's DIRTFEDD. Those guys were fricken awesome. Talk about energy. If ever given the oppurtunity to see either Devildriver or Dirtfedd and you dont take it well................shame on you.

I give this show a 5 star rating because it was absolutly amazing. My only severe disappointment is that Devildriver only played for 50 minutes. They are the headliners now and need to play for at least 1:45 min. It seemed that they havn't stepped up from the Ozzfest scene where they are only allowed 45mins to play.

With only three CDs under their belt, Devildriver put on a great show that was an amazing mix of new music (Last Kind Words) and some fan favorites of their older music (Fury). The professionalism, atmosphere and stage presence that these guys bring to a concert is second to none - everyone at that show was having a great time and you could tell it really fueled the band. If you're a hardcore Devildriver fan, and you haven't seen these guys live, don't miss the next chance you get!

this show was unbelievable! i walked into the doors not even knowing who thy will be done was and ended up being a fan of them. ghoatwhore played a lame setlist, i only knew one song but this is were the amazing venue started warming up. suffocation had too long of a setlist but it was awesome seeing titans take the stage. even tho behemoth got frustrated with the sound issues they destroyed everything in their path as always. the crowd was chanting for more yet no more songs came. the night changed there on out. people started to clear out not knowing what they were missing. devildriver came to the stage with the classic track "end of the line" and it was a raging party for the rest of the night. dez got in peoples face and was having a great time, greeting crowd surfers and opening up the circle pits. all in all, devildriver was a 10/10 and they need to come to the philidelphia region more often!

This show had to be one of the BEST metal shows I've seen in years. The first band, a local group from Columbus called Blackened Dawn, needed to work on their chops. They really couldn't hold a candle to the rest of the bands. Next up was Thy Will Be Done who I'm told is a Christian band but they were rocking the house nonetheless. Then the real fun began. Goatwhore took the stage and pretty much shook the rafters with their straightforward in your face style. There wasn't a pit until then and when that started, the security guards really earned their pay, having to keep the people in the pit IN THE PIT and not flailing about and knocking bystanders about. Suffocation then turned it up another notch and the pit seemed to grow a few more feet in diameter. Their set had the horns flying and the voices raised to maximum volume. I personally am hoarse at this moment. It was that good. Finally, DevilDriver came on and took it the rest of the way home. Dez, with his usual flair and vocal style had the entire floor at maximum energy level. All in all, as I stated before, this was one of the BEST metal shows I've seen in a long time and I'd recommend it to anyone with this type of taste in music.

Whitechapel have been paying their dues the last several years and with the release of "Our Endless War" are ready for equal status with the big boys, in my opinion, such as Lamb Of God, Slayer, Machine Head, all the well established and successful metal outfits. The show in Atlanta was the fourth time I have seen Whitechapel and their stage show was freaking awrsome! PhillyBo can sing and shout better than most and the musicianship of the band was pedantic and soul edifying. Don't miss these guys. Get the album!

Not all metal is created equal. If you're a fan of DevilDriver, don't assume that the rest of the show will be relevant to your interests. DevilDriver is heavy, but also rhythmic. For this reason, they are Melodic Death Metal. This is NOT always true of the warm-up bands and/or co-headliners. I saw Carnifex, Revocation, Whitechapel, and of course, DevilDriver. To a DevilDriver fan unfamiliar with regular death metal, Carnifex and Whitechapel are just noise. They have no concept of music. Revocation was enjoyable, and exactly what a warm-up band should be: not amazing, but sound good, and get you even more excited to see the headliner. DevilDriver was fantastic as always. Great music, great stage presence, and they obviously enjoy what they do. If you're a fan of any kind of death metal, you won't be disappointed by DevilDriver.

Devildriver was very good live. An awesome stage presence. If I could change anything about the event it would be eliminating most of the opening acts. I understand that bands need to get their band known from the stage but there was too many. Doors opened at 5. I got there at 7. I still had to sit through 4 or 5 bands. Devildriver didnt get on stage until after 10. That would have been fine but it cut into their stage time. They were only out there for about an hour. And for me that sucks considering that they have 5 albums and hours of gread heavy metal music they could have played.

I'll never understand why Devildriver is not more of a draw than they are, at least in Detroit. The venue was only half full. For selfish reasons I like that though. But I do know that those who do come are true fans. I have seen them four or five times at Harpos and they have always delivered. These guys bring a blistering set everytime! Dez and the boys come hard and pack the show with mosh inducing pain. This time around they played a little bit from each album. From songs like "I Could Care Less" to "Pray for Villans". My neck was very sore the next day from rockin'...perfect! Whenever they come around, I'll do my best to be there.

The best act was Kataklysm. Devil Driver had a good show i guess. Im just not into them. Devil Driver had strobes and everything. Kittie was disappointing. Hostility was pretty great and not to mention a good group of fellas. I could not stand Misery. I think the fact that Kataklysm have been doing this since like '91 and they are metal legends. Im sure there is a good reason they didn't headline. I guess it is Devil Driver's tour so the should headline but, kittie should not have played after Kataklysm.

This show was so amazing. It was very intimate. Kataklysm played excellent, Kittie was so fun and those girls keep up with the boys. Devildrive... jeeze. Dez had gone early to make sure the barriers were taken down and made sure the fans knew we were all "family" and would take care of one another. He said "our stage is your stage" and just asked people not to touch the guitar players, allowed stage diving, stage dived himself. So much energy, it was impossible not to smile. AWESOME SHOW

The bands that came on, not just devildriver, kittie, and kataklysm, put on great performances but the final 3 bands made the show what it was. Being that the venue was a small place, these bands didn't have alot of people to play for and gave great performances. I was a little upset that kataklysm and especially Kittie were kinda rushed for time and were only able to play a couple of songs, but they played like there were alot more watching. Devildriver put on one of the best performances I've seen in a while, just because of the small venue, they were reaching over into the crowd and really gave the audience what they wanted. I would absolutely say this was the best show I've seen in a while.

The Culture Room is sort of an icon in the Florida music scene almost up there with the House of Blues. They really have it together with organization and putting together a killer line up. But that didn't mean the bands would be any good since I had never seen any of them live. Not to my surprise, the line up was solid gold! Every band was top notch and up to par on their A game. Even the band Goatwhore who I had never really paid any attention to, really impressed me. But out of all the bands, DevilDriver made the night, hands down! It's very cliche to say that about the headliner, but I'm not one to care much. Since I had purchased the meet and greet, it was basically a dream come true getting to meet the guys is DD. Awesome dudes with a really great attitude toward the fans and giving out signatures. I mean, there are some bands who just do it because of their management, and they have no true positive attitude toward the fans, But, beside this, DevilDriver's performance was outstanding! I really didn't have any doubts that it wouldn't be anything shy of incredible, but you don't always know what to expect. To make it simple, the band was tight and played all of their songs to par, almost exact to every recorded version. It was like going out and having someone play the recorded songs really loud over a PA system, but minus the energy. It did not disappoint! When DevilDriver come back, I would hope to see them play at the Culture room again, and I would recommend it to every fan out there! Enough said.
