Hiatus Kaiyote

Hiatus Kaiyote

Australian neo-soul quartet Hiatus Kaiyote has been stirring up significant stateside buzz with their hip hop-influenced sound, jaw-dropping musicianship, and vibe-heavy live performances. At the group's jazzy, laid-back shows stylish frontwoman Nai Palm flaunts serious guitar fretwork while the rest of the band ups the ante with virtuosic keys, bass, and drums. Their instrumental skills are impressive but the real star of the show is Palm's sultry and soulful voice, which she playfully weaves through groove-heavy tracks like \"Nakamarra\" and \"By Fire\". With their cosmic lyrics, outré stagewear, and prodigious chops, Hiatus Kaiyote take ticket .

I saw Hiatus Kaiyote in concert when they opened up for Erykah Badu at the Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn about 1.5 years ago. I never heard of them before but their vibe, style and sound was so refreshing, smooth and experimental that I immediately became a fan!!! I can't wait for them to return back to NYC! This group is highly recommended.

The venue was small, Park West in Chicago, but believe me when I say it was jam packed! This band is one of those rare gems that sound just like, if not better, than they do on CD. For this particular show, August 10, 2016, they did the Choose Your Weapon album (out of order of course) with a few of their earlier works sprinkled in and some new goodies from the upcoming album. It was the best $25, yes twenty-five dollars, I ever spent in my life. If you were skeptical please listen to my advice- SEE THIS BAND LIVE!!!!

This was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Every songs sounds just as it did on the record, if not, better. True musicianship and creativity at its finest. And the opening act Hawthorne Headhunters was amazing-- they gained a new fan.

Flawless performance, I think they were getting bummed that people weren't dancing but it's hard to dance when you are standing there with your mouth open drooling because of the breathtaking sounds coming from the stage

The show ran a little behind and had some technical difficulty, but was STILL AMAZING. They performed songs from the first two projects as well as some new ones. Unbelievable musicianship and vocals. Sounded as good as, if not better than recordings.

The last time I went to Irving Plaza to see a show, I was down on the floor. This time I chose to spend a little more and get VIP tix. I had THE BEST spot. I was right behind the soundboard and I could see everything. Not to mention, the sound was killer. Hiatus is by far one of my favorite bands and I'm so glad that I made it to this show. Can't wait until they come back around. The only downside was that I was supposed to get a poster with my ticket purchase and when I went to claim mine, THEY SOLD OUT. Ummm... REALLY? Bummer. Made up for it when I got to meet the band afterwards.

This group is really popular, but I don't get the hype. The groove switches up too frequently and the band has a lot going on at the same time. I didn't enjoy this concert but the audience seemed really into it so it must be a cult following sort of thing.

Probs one of the first real and talented non theatrical concert I've been to. I've never heard anything like their music. It's so hard to put into a simple sentence. I had a hard time explaining how amazing their sound is to people hen I would talk about listening to them on a record. It's even more difficult trying to capture their musical presence live. If anyone has the chance to see them go and do it now. You truly won't be disappointed unless you have terrible taste in music or too boring to try anything new. The venue was okay. Not very great views if you don't get their early. I could barely see everyone onstage including the singer because there was a pole in my view.

From start to finish the show was amazing. My only request I have for when they return is to use a bigger venue. I believe they are well known enough now to use a venue like the Sinclair or maybe Royal.

The show was insane. What this band does is light years ahead of everything else that's happening in music today. They are telepathic. Mind blowing concert.

Haitus Kaiyote sold out the (standing only-general admission) venue of a downtown Detroit landmark on a fall Friday night. I was lucky enough to be in the house to witness the perfectly performed set! The musicians that make up this band ( their lead vocalist on guitar) were brilliantly skilled in recreating that soul-funk-jazz fusion blend that they have mastered. They weren't arrogant about it either, just obviously good at their craft. They went on...on time and played a solid 90-minute set that never allowed for a moment or an urge to check one's phone! True talent, in my opinion, is always better LIVE and they were brilliant LIVE! I can't wait to see them again!

Over the last few years, I've discovered some awe inspiring musicians hailing from Australia - Hiatus Kaiyote is one of my favorites. Since discovering the band, I've dreamed of seeing them perform, and thanks to Center Stage, I finally got the chance. The sea of people grooving to their music reflects the group's diversity in terms of genres and styles, which only reinforces their staying power. A swirling cacophony of jazz, funk, rock, soul, and hip-hop - how could you not love them!

You could feel the rhythms and Nai Palm's ethereal vocals fluttering and jabbing in some orgasmic ectoplasm that just left your ears confused, but in a good way. The command of melody and rhythm the group has is masterful. The musicianship and ability was without doubt.

I wasn't sure what to expect because I haven't been an HK fan for long. Easily ranked as one of the top 5 shows I've seen. Very chill. Loved watching others watching (true fans) having so much fun too. Center Stage is a great venue. Not a bad seat.

The sound guys lost the band's sound check, which was a major screw up, however the band needs to roll with the punches. They made a huge production of it, complaining and parading around on stage about it. Any artist who has cut their teeth playing music has dealt with shitty sound, don't make the whole audience deal with your sound problem too, just play and adjust as the set moves along. I was a bit disappointed, I am a huge fan of this band but I sensed that their heads are getting a little big, I didn't expect that from them.

Only wish they could have played all night. For me, they live up to the hype. Such a talented group of musicians. The venue...is ehh. Get there early and anchor a spot with a view. We shuffled around most of the show trying to find a decent vantage point.

i had such high hopes for this concert but the sound was not well balanced throughout the room or at all. in fact, most of the time the vocals sounded muddled, and there was too much bass drowning out the room. so many lows and not enough highs. the band is great and it's unfortunate that the sound took away from it.
