As always Devotchka put on an incredible performance. The lights, the music, the Slavic Sisters. They are amazing musicians. Gregory Alan Isakov was just plain awesome and to be honest, I think he should have played second. While Mariachi el Bronx were good, they did not have the same "wow" factor as the other two. Overall, fantastic show!

Such a fun show! I've always liked Devotchka, but after seeing them live, I LOVE Devotchka. The lead singer's vocals blew me away and the surprises during the performance were awesome. I brought a friend to the show and she had never heard of Devotchka before, she now says that they're her favorite band!

The performers were amazing, however, there were several people standing behind us that were talking so loudly, that it was distracting. Why even go to a concert if you are not going to listen....or at least have the courtesy to let others hear? Saw Devotchka last fall in Grand Rapids and the crowd there was way more into the music. Too bad because these guys pour their hearts into the performance.

My friend and I got to the show really early and secured a place at the front row in the very center. The opening act, Quixotic Fusion was very impressive. DeVotchKa just blew us away with their performance. They are phenomenal musicians and know how to play a great show.

First, the venue was perfect for a sound like DeVotchKa's. But there really is no sound like DeVotchKa's. Their set list contained something from every album. Songs that seemed to be just fillers at one point now took on new meaning and sentiment. Tom Hagerman's sweet violin and accordion (who'da thunk I'd ever like the accordion?!) were perfect and sometimes heart-wrenching while Jeannie Schroder's upright bass and tuba were immaculate. Her dancing added a little cuteness to her performance, too. At first, I thought Shawn King's drumming was a little marching band-ish, but then I realized, it's what their songs command. Lastly, Nick Urata. His pure vocals extracted some dormant emotions that surprisingly burst forth. This was by far the best show I've EVER seen/heard.. and I'm old. Mariachi El Bronx was a fun complement.

I was only recently introduced to Devotchka by a friend who's crazy about them so I didn't know what to expect. The first two bands were surprisingly good so I was already happy with my decision to go. Devotchka then blew me away with their live show. It ranged from awesome lighting, to a vast array of instruments, and even acrobats. Even though the only I songs I knew well were How it Ends and 100 Lovers, I loved every song. I will definitely see them again if they come to town.

Simply put one of the best performances I have seen. Which confuses me with the next unfortunate experience I have to share: Growing up i've ran into many genres, many concerts, shows, gigs, raves, festivals and 95% of the time dance/cheer seem to be a common factor. You had the pit area, the outskirts of that pit and if need be sitting area. Ever since I can remember, I have chosen Floor/General Admission due to the simple fact that if the artist/band playing is one of my favorites I will not have the patience to sit; simply put I want to get into it, pit if there is one and experience the show. The fan base here was simply a bit much like that of an orchestra. Even in the standing/floor area no one moved, danced, cheered ONLY after a song had finished. I wasn't prepared to PIT since I knew the style of music but I still seemed limited so much even when clapping. Confused, as much as one could be, I took the liberty of simply getting into the music, clapping, cheering but it seemed frowned upon, as people stared and snickered away. I was even asked "do you know concert etiquette " I simply replied "I do, the mezzanine/sitting area seems more suitable for you". I soon after bit my tongue as right after that I looked around and nearby everyone else seemed to be calm ( until the roar of cheers between songs ) as well and I was right in front . It seems i don't know concert etiquette , at least for this band. I learned a great lesson: either 1: follow along with the rest of the crowd for a non-judged time without people snickering and becoming snotty with me or 2: DGAF and get into the music As a sign of respect, I shall choose wisely depending on the crowd around me and move if need be, unfortunately this time we only found another 2 people as confused as we were as to why the floor crowd was so reserved and even would complain about "clapping". In the end, my group enjoyed the show. Confusion still lingered after but we brushed it off with the amazing entity: DeVotchKa Their performance was so vibrant and they showcased many instruments, from the rare theremin to lit-up horn instruments, violins, trumpets, accordion.... all of them used to perfection and with soul. they even showcased some rope dancers, armed with beautiful fabrics falling from the ceiling. The music box and it's deco seemed perfect for them as their style seems to be almost timeless. I strongly recommend watching them live and I soon will again.

Devotchka is amazing live. I saw them last year in Chicago this time was even better. I will see them anytime they come into the area. I thought that Mariachi El Bronx was good for about one song. They play mariachi well and are true showmen, but all the songs sound the same. Hands had a great sound and were a great opening band. Overall the whole concert was good. The venue was a great small intimate size with good acoustics and sound I recommend getting balcony seats though. Standing for four hours was rough. The music made it worth it though.

It was a stellar performance from a truly talented band. Nick Urata has so goddamn much passion in his voice.. It's insanely sexy. I feel like this band may have appealed a bit more to the ladies of the audience than the men. Even still, the gentleman who accompanied me to the performance agreed that Devotchka is more than enjoyable.

Ambiance was incredible! Enraptured by their seemingly effortless and natural talent. Truly felt like you were in a desert as you took in a fusion of gypsy like and Mariachi sounds. What an ensemble ~ the violin, accordion, sousaphone, bass, maracas, etc. really set a mystical, magical , and sometimes melancholic yet circus like tone. Had a little bit of everything and it all worked flawlessly with the enchanting vocals that sounded like a cross between Jeff Buckley, Alex Ebert, and Bryan Ferry.

Opening act Mariachi el Bronx was fantastic, delivering a heartfelt take on a classic sound... DeVotchKa, though extremely talented and musically diverse put on a great show, with attention to detail -- augmenting their act with live dancers, shadowplays and projected images. However, all of the skill seemed to be for naught, as their stage presence didn't really seem to stir the audience and the tunes all ended up coming across as a generic melange of international instrumentation, all averaging out to the same basic song, over and over. I was hoping to be blow away, and was neither under- nor over-... I was simply whelmed

The Gregory Alan Isakov was a musically talented bunch but made me quite sleepy. I think we all wanted something more danceable at that moment. Mariachi El Bronx was a lively group with an entertaining singer and energetic horns and percussion. They were definitely worth seeing. Devotchka was amazing. They soud exactly like their albums. Although I would have liked more interaction with the audience, they were great entertainers. To advertise their upcoming release, they had a special treat for us: rope dancers. This was a moment that I will always remember. A beautiful duo of women that danced above the band using just strips of fabric. This was a great show and I would encourage anyone to see them!

The 6th & I Historic Synagogue is probably the coolest venue I have ever been to. The fact that the concert was actually in the temple was awesome, and there truly is not a bad seat in the house! It is also an incredibly easy venue, period: easy parking, easy entrance/exit, and it's in a part of town that is not shady (which is always a plus). My husband and I plan on seeing more shows here in the future. Devotchka was A-Mazing! My husband has been listening to them for years, so I jumped at the chance to get tickets. They were incredible live, and the best part is that the band was having fun performing. You could truly tell that they love their jobs and the music they play. It was awesome :) I would see them again in a heartbeat.

The weather cooperated and cooled off nearly 30 degrees before the show started. That helped tremendously. The zoo venue is totally awesome. I had never seen Devotchka before so didn't know what to expect from a live show. They delivered! They were tons of fun to watch, and played a lot of up beat tempo songs. The energy was intense, especially during the encore. Loved the band, loved the venue!

A really great show. Opener Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps were superb. The outdoor venue that is the Zoo is truly unique and spectacular. DeVotchKa started playing as a relieving cool front blew in, followed by a lightning show- the band was excellent, playing new and old songs that blend Mid Eastern world music with straight ahead rock. They take you to a different place.

Gomez is a great band to live in concert. Would like to see them again as headliner or as solo act. Not a big fan of DeVotchKa ...along with a lot of others. Many fans left after Gomez finished their set. Mountain Vineyard could do a better job with taxis and shuttles especially after the concert. Cabs should be in the parking lot after the show since the road is one way until the parking lot clears.

Gomez rocked but man was it annoying that we couldn't dance because of the venue adn their tight securitey. Dance in your seats and not in the aisle..boo. Gomez should have been headlining. hardly anyone was dancing for Devotchka and we left early cause they were putting us to sleep.

We got there early as requested by the Gomez band, but not sure why other than they told us the concert started early. Unfortunately we weren't there for a nice night. It was very cold and windy. I could see how it would be a fabulous venue on a nice warm night. We liked the Kopecky Family band. The female singer was fabulous. The reason for being there was to see Gomez. They came on 2nd and we were confused because we thought they were the head liners. They were fabulous. But their time on stage was way too short. The DeVotchKa band: we stayed for 3 songs then left. We didn't think the 3 groups were a good mix together. The DeVotchka people were very happy to see them and got into the music and you could tell the Gomez people weren't and they left. We saw Gomez last year with Blind Pilot in SF and they were a much better combination. The ride down the hill was a little hairy. Going up the hill the beginning of the hight we saw taxi's coming down. We could see how taking a taxi especially if you are drinking would be the best idea.

I'm sure other reviews praise DeVotchKa and Gomez. Both bands sounded good through the sound system, and their music is a wonderful fit for the winery. But on a down note, we were near several groups that talked loudly over the music. I was sadly disappointed that so many people, all of whom seemed fairly young, seemed possessed to practically shout at each other as though they were in a bar. Having some twerps behind you loudly talking about astrology or some such nonsense, while the band is working so hard to build a beautiful moment is such a waste. And this loud over-talking seemed to erupt in numerous places in front and behind us. If that's what's become of the concert going experience, then I wont' be spending my hard earned cash to go to the Winery to see concerts. Too bad, too, because it's a beautiful setting where I generally feel comfortable.

It is always a treat to see true artists who love their craft, and the band members of Devotchka definitely qualify.
