The Wailin Jennys

The Wailin Jenny`s are one of those groups that sound better live than any studio album! This is because they have the talent, personality and overall musicality and presence on stage to pull it off. This was a show like no other and the music was on a different level, amazing is an understatement! 10/10 on all counts.

We loved The Wallin Jennys. We had not seen them live before, but did have a few of their CDs. But seeing them live was special. They were informal, folksy, and conversational -- but hearing them sing, with multi-instrument use and great harmonies was very special. They were Fabulous. Would love to see them again. Why do so many great groups and singers come from Canada?

Always a treat. Glad they survivied the snow and travel troubles to be able to make it. NICKY! OK, if you ever get a chance to see them, GO!. Even if you never heard of them. You will be glad. Thanks for coming to Durham this time instead of Raleigh. Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC is always a GREAT and historic place to see a concert. You are now part of history.

The 'Jennys were great. From their first breath to their last, the 3 part harmony, backed up with a solid arrangement made for an unforgettable show.

This was our second time at a Wailin' Jennys concert. The first was at the Albuquerque Zoo Park's concert shell a few years ago. While both venues are excellent, the KiMo is a more intimate setting with much better acoustics. For most groups, this would make little difference, but the Jennys' astonishingly intricate, subtly shifting harmonies and range of instrumental expression are best appreciated in an acoustically refined environment. Just as what is omitted in the visual arts, or left unsaid in literary works, can powerfully define what is presented, the Jenny's achieve optimal emotional impact with each song by manipulating the aural white space -- masterfully employing sparse, simple instrumentals and frequently singing a cappella. The Jennys bring in rousing, densely textured instrumentals in other pieces, managing just the right balance to keep the audience alternatively in deep reverie or at the edge of ecstasy.

The Wailin' Jennys are in the folk/singer/songwriter tradition. They all three write their own songs and play instruments (2 of them play multiple instruments). But their exceptionality lies in their ability to harmonize.

Congrats to both AMP and Wailin Jennys for advancing to KIMO status. The KIMO is always a pleasant venue for musical performances. The evening was a relaxing and enjoyable evening of great music from talented musicians. Very professional, yet connecting with the audience.

Should have charged more for the tickets. They were well worth it!!!!!

The Wailin' Jennys put on an incredible show. Exquisite harmonies, meaningful lyrics, and some nice storytelling thrown in between songs. It was also sweet that they came out to meet their fans after the concert. I hope they come back to Albuquerque again soon!

We try to see The Wailin Jennys every time they are in this area. We've been fans for more than 10 years. They never disappoint - we just enjoy them more everytime we see them!.

At long last I have finally been able to see the Wallin' Jenny's in person. I listen to them most everyday while traveling with my job. In celebration of my sister's birthday, my family gathered (including my 90 year old daddy) in Raleigh for dinner and the concert. Our seats were great as we were seated on the handicapped row. After the audience settled in their seats, the lights went low and there they were in person! They sang in perfect harmony, played lots of instruments plus introduced us to some of their new songs. I plan to keep myself informed on another performance in my area so I can hear them again. I highly recommend going to a concert soon!

The Wailin' Jennys are an Americana band from Manitoba that blend 3 beautiful female voices in some amazing harmonies. They are currently touring supporting their album Fifteen, which celebrates 15 years together as a band and is full of cover songs of their favorite artists like Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Simon & Garfunkel, Tom Petty, and more. It's a great, relaxed show. Highly recommended.

The Jennys are amazing...simply amazing. Not only do they bring incredible talent to the stage, but their stage presence and audience connection put them over the top! Wow! This is the second trip to see them. I already have tix for their Greensboro show. And, as always, the Birchmere is a fun venue!

The venue and music was great. I enjoyed the harmony and the excellent violin/ fiddle play. Plus they were fun and got the audience to join in. Good show!

So happy the Wailin' Jennys were only two hours away! Great venue (Uptown Theater, Napa) and stunning performances by insanely talented women (and brother, and friend)!

These three women have the most angelic harmony I've ever heard. They are vocal geniuses as well as musicians and songwriters. And they are quite witty and sweet. I was mesmerized for the entire concert. My only gripe is that it was too short. Only 7 songs in the second set and one little encore.

They are one of our all-time favorites and this show did not in any way disappoint.

This venue was beautiful and there wasn't a bad seat in the house... The harmonies of these women is amazing!

I usually prefer rock shows, but I became a fan of the WJ's through hearing their exquisite harmonies. They played 17 songs interspersed with banter about the songs and their personal lives. Every song transported me to a place of joy. The voices blended seamlessly and the instrumentation was perfect- you could hear each instrument distinctly. Best of all- you could tell they were having a great time performing- nobody was mailing it in.

I'm so thankful The Jennys decided to make a stop in Muncie, IN. They gave an amazing live performance. I love how relaxed & personable they are on stage. You leave the show feeling like you know them each a little better. I love how they share their lives with their fans.

Pruis Hall was a great facility to see The Wailin Jennys. I sat in front of a speaker on the front row and it wasn't overwhelming. These women have amazing voices individually but their harmonizing is flawless and smooth. Most of the songs were familiar but there were a couple of new songs. They had back up musicians Richard Moody,(Ruth's brother) on the violin and Andrew ???? on guitar and mandolin. Great addition. They had good rapport with the audience and their songs and banter flowed seamlessly. After the performance they signed memorabilia and had pictures taken with fans. Would absolutely see them again.

This was my second time seeing the Jennys at the Birchmere. If you like beautiful harmonies, you will not be disappointed.

The Wailin' Jennys set the bar very high with their performance at The Birchmere on Tuesday evening October 20th. Their vocal harmonies never sounded better to go along with their fine sounding and varied musicianship. Ruth Moody's brother Richard provided exceptional fiddle, viola and mandolin playing. They played a lot of their usual favorites like "Arlington", "Bird Song" and "Glorybound". They played a new song written by Ruth called "Far and Wide". Ruth has actually performed and recorded this song with her own band. Whether done by The Ruth Moody Band or The Jennys it sounds great. They also did a song they hadn't done live in a while, Heather Masse's "Sweet Mona Louise". As usual their banter was funny and entertaining led by Nicky Mehta whose upbeat personality really knows how to delight and amuse an audience. These girls are very enchanting to go along with their great musical talent. I just can't get enough of them.

The Wailen Jennys were stunning. I was utterly floored at how much I enjoyed their concert. Here are a few of the reasons why: 1. They really seemed to want to be there singing. 2. Their voices are even better in person than on their CDs - and in my many concert experiences, this is seldom if ever the case. 3. They had such a great crowd presence. 4. The Birchmere is an amazing venue to see them. I CANNOT WAIT until their return! I will be there!

This was an astonishingly good concert. Wonderful singing and instrumentation. The violin accompaniment was also excellent.

The Wailin' Jennys are my favorite band and this show gave another good reason why that is so. Their harmonies are always perfect and beautiful especially when they sing acapella. A song I heard them do tonight for the first time, a traditional song called "In a Churchyard" was a fine example of this along with several others. Their song list included a number of songs that were different from what I've heard from them before with several songs they did for the first time live. I just love this band and very much look forward to another opportunity to see them again. I also had a chance to talk to them and have a picture taken with them after the show which they always generously do. They are very delightful to talk to.

Their voices are lovely and they sound wonderful together and singly. I'd have liked (personally) a little more traditional music and a little less of their own music, which is all right but not outstanding, although their apparently besotted fan base couldn't get enough of the personal details. Bottom line -- concert excellent, endless patter about themselves tiresome.

The Wailin' Jennys once again delivered an extremely enjoyable concert. They performed several new songs for the first time. An acapella version of a song about a churchyard (I'm not sure of the actual title, possibly "In a Churchyard") was one of these as well as "Orphan Girl" by Gillian Welch and a new song written by Heather Masse about her son August. These were all performed excellently. As usual their banter with one another and with the audience was a lot of fun with Nicky Mehta leading the way. You can always count on meeting nice people at Wailin' Jennys shows, a testament to the type of crowd they draw. And It's always nice having a chance to talk to the girls after the show.

They are just so full of talent and energy and are so darn fun to watch perform that everyone really should find the time to see them.

Heather Masse, Ruth Moody and Nicky Mehta have absolutely gorgeous voices that blend together seamlessly. The harmonies are beautiful and the intonation is always spot on. The impression is of one voice singing three or even four parts at the same time. Yes, I know there are only three of them. Their concert was a mix of original songs by each of the band members as well as beautiful and interesting arrangements of songs by other artists. You could call these covers, but by the time the Jenny's finish with their magic, the seem almost like new songs. It was a particular thrill to hear some of their new material including a new a capella number they debuted at this concert. For anyone who is a fan of vocal harmonies, this is a group not to be missed!

I saw the Wailin Jennys for the first time in Vancouver in 2011, and they were even better last week. They are outstanding live, and everyone in the hall was entranced with them. I only wish they could have played more.

I could have listened all night! The Jennys did many of their standards and also did several Jenny arranged covers. With the addition of their very talented male guitarist, they did sound like a rock band at times. Even did a Tom Petty tune. But, they also did a jazz like vocal. Too bad they wont be anywhere near the east coast until about May, 2015. This was one of the most exciting concerts I have ever attended. It might even be worth traveling to Canada to see them.

Three incredibly talented women musicians along (and the talented Adam!) made for an incredible show! Please never quit playing your annual Birchmere shows!

The Wailin Jennys are enjoyable for sure. Their harmony, musical talents and song selections were "easy listening." They are good at what they do and are worth hearing, seeing and appreciating.

We drove nine hours from Nashville to see the Jenny's for the first time. Well worth the trip. Smooth harmonies, multi-talented musicians, great audience rapport... would do it again!

This honestly was my favorite concert. It helped that I have been obsessed with them for a while and knew every song, including their cover of Tom Petty's Wildflowers and another cover that is slipping my mind for right now.

...despite tough travel due to the snow and the fact that Nicky had picked up a bug that affected her voice. Nice job by her battling through a tough evening, and by Heather, who (I think) traded out for Nicky's [higher] part on a couple of songs. I did miss Jeremy and the variety his fiddle provides. Some of the songs just aren't the same with a fuzzy electric guitar standing in for a fiddle. All in all, though, another sold-out show for musician-singers who clearly love what they do, who craft meaningful, intelligent songs, and whose voices, individually and collectively, are the perfect instruments for those songs. Nitpicking aside, I'd not have been disappointed if I'd paid the whole shot and just gotten to hear "The Parting Glass."

Take three sweet young women, add a trio of touching voices, and a charming selection of songs and you end up with a genuinely special evening of music. Add the Uptown in Napa, CA and you have a wonderful night of entertainment. I warn you. The Jennys are addicting.

This was in my all-time top three concerts of my life. The Wailin Jennys were fun, personable, funny, and most importantly, *incredible* musicians. Lots of variation in the sound, tight original harmonies, unique use of many different instruments (like brushes playing the side of a snare drum), and so warm and delicious to listen to. Thank you, thank you, thank you Wailin Jennys! I'd drive an hour to see you ANY DAY.

One of the best concerts I've EVER seen. Perfect harmonies, fabulous instrumentals, mesmerizing tunes and lyrics. And they were so personable. Loved hearing snippets from their life. Very approachable and real. Amazing first concert for my 12-year old.

The concert at the Birchmere was perfect from start to finish... Even when a few words were forgotten, the audience loved it. The Jenny's have an amazing blend especially for a live performance. They are better than the CD's. Their new addition, Adam, on the guitar and mandolin was an excellent find. I plan to go see them every time they come to town.

Better than ever! Niki has a future in standup comedy. A great show and a lot of talent.

Group has nice voices and good musicians but didn't reallly like their songs. Recommend another group called Red Molly that is similar but who have really great songs

I would see these women play & sing anytime! What a beautiful evening of song & voice and gifted musicality. Wish I had brought my sons who are in high school but both play instruments.

The Wailin' Jennys concert was a fabulous night of enjoyable entertainment. They sound just as good live as on cd. Their harmonies are out of this world.

What can you say about Ruth, Nicky and Heather that hasn't already been said. The sweetest, most precise, angelic harmonies you will ever hear in your lifetime. Multi-instrumentalists, creative song writers, insightful coverings of classic tunes and, of course, the humorous and engaging stage show. Can one ask for more? No, I say. Since these ladies don't tour as much as I would prefer, it is a treat to see them whenever possible. You walk out of a Jennys show believing there is still hope for the human race. The closest thing to Paris architecture in the music world. Long live the Wailin' Jennys!

We saw them perform at the Birchmere and they are amazing!

Pure songwriting talent, pure harmonies, talented musicians on a variety of acoustic instruments, good rapport with the audience. Played old favorites in the first half and introduced selections from the new CD, Bright Morning Stars, in the second half. Very beautiful voices from some very beautiful talented women.

Awesome is all I can say. If you like great harmony and great voices go see them. I d call their music folk-country with blues & pop overtones.

Terrific show. I didn't know much about them before the show - my wife did. I ended up buying 2 CD's and have been listening since. Highly recommended!
