The show started with an hour of New Order songs. Absolutely brilliant. Energized. Followed by 2 hours of Joy Division. Peter Hook has an incredible vouce, a huge stage presence and energized the crowd. It was incredible.

The first time I ve seen them live and I was very impressed with the sound and energy. Songs were played in original form and the mix was great. The band had an amazing energy and made me feel as if I had been transported back to 1979 until the mid eighties.

I never got to see Peter Hook when he was in Joy Division which is one of my favorite bands, but this came close! It was an amazing show with so many great Joy Division songs as well as New Order songs done to perfection!!!

When I purchased my tickets to see Hooky, at 20 buck or so, I thought "Oh well, at least I'll be in the venue". It was my first time at the Music Hall and I figured that a rafter or something would block my view for 20 bucks. But no... at 7:30 I entered the hall. I was amazed. I felt like I was in Manchester in 1978 and Joy Division was going to come on stage. I was at the equivalent of the 4th row. That in itself was Worth more than 20 bucks. But then,Peter Hook came on stage and started the bass line for "24 Hours". It's impossible to put that into words. And the songs kept on coming. More than 3 hours of music, more than 30 songs from a time when music was still music. Need I say more??

What an amazing band! For the first 25 minutes I felt like I was seeing Joy Division and it brought tears to my eyes. I have been to over 150 concerts in my lifetime and this was the best 25 minute stretch of songs that I have ever seen performed. I am not the biggest New Order fan. They played over two hours of New Order and did it very well. I wish there was more Joy Division and less New Order. How could they not play "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or "She's Lost Control?"

Peter Hook played an early show at the Royale in Boston, first set was older material, he had a full back up back so he could play when he wanted or just sing. The Joy Division material was great to hear and the sound system and levels were good. Second set was some New order material and other newer material, all great. It was a treat to be able to dance to the music that is so familiar and loved.

He gave it his all. Joy Division for over an hour, then New Order material for over 2! Played for a total of 4 hours!! Covered a lot of songs. Amazing band with him, including his own son! I swear it was 1987 again...in the best way possible!

This is the third time I've seen Hooky and the Light and he keeps getting better. Blown away by how tight the band is as well as how much fun there were having. I have seen New Order with Hooky as well, but I prefer it this way due to a much higher energy level. A must see. At a boy Hooky.

Peter Hook and the Light played a Joy Division set along with the entire Low Life and Brotherhood albums. It was a rare opportunity to hear some old favorites and obscure songs that aren't played on regular New Order tours. The songs hold up and hearing Peter Hook's high bass melodies shows that Hooky was responsible for New Order's distinct sound. Charming guy and great with the audience, but the music was incredible.

I will always love Peter for not having an opening band and playing the set himself and doing all Joy Division. This is the second time he has come to NYC to play New Order shows but opened with Joy Division sets. The set containing New Order albums "Lowlife" and "Brotherhood" were great, stellar band... Looking forward to the next two albums...

Fantastic show in NYC. Peter Hook and the Light played about 3 hours, which is so rare these days. Joy Division and New Order. Incredible set list. One negative comment - Hooky needs to sing fewer songs and let the guitarist sing instead. Hooky can handle the vocals on most Joy Division songs, but should defer on most New Order songs. He is still the premier alternative rock bass player in the world.

and the band played for nearly three hours including all of Brotherhood and Low Life as well as a bunch of other great songs. Peter Hook's band is absolutely terrific at recreating the songs, but the weakest link is Hook himself as his gravelly voice just isn't strong enough to get above the music and it's noticeable enough to really kill my enjoyment of the show. I was pretty tired this night so I didn't even stay for the encores but I kind of wish that the sound mixer did something to help boost Hook's voice since it was pretty much lost in the mix and the lyrics are pretty important for New Order/Joy Division. Still, it was a pretty decent show for the fans... New Order were never that much better when they played live and at least The Light seem to generally enjoy playing live (which I never got the impression New Order did)

Why leave the stage 3 or 4 times?? It took a lot to start, then had too many stops between one album and another.

It was like watching Joy DIvision in their prime. And a New Order concert to boot. Little Hooky is a bass player in his own right. I never truly realized the importance of Peter Hook to the sound of Joy Division and New Order until seeing and hearing it isolated like that with the focus on the sound of the bass. Incredible. A must for all New Order and Joy DIvision fans. How else will you be able to hear Joy Division properly?

I went to the show expecting it to be very good, I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power,Corruption and Lies and Movement but the big suprize came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division it was so awesome! I have no words to really express how pleased I was with this show it was everything and more than I ever expected. If PHTL ever come back to LA I'm so gonna be there he's an amazing Artist with so much love for the music and for the fans. Easily one of the best shows I've EVER seen!!!

The overall concert was great. It. It felt like watching a play since the curtains were drawn as though they were ACTS. Great show they played for about 3 hours of great music from Joy Division to New Order. Don't miss out next time he is in town I know I won't.

Absolutely fantastic show... Hearing the first two New Order albums, "Movement" and "Power, Corruption & Lies" in their entirety was pretty special. Closing With "Temptation", "Blue Monday" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was great... But a surprise opening set of Joy Division? Absolutely stellar. The band is powerful and tight. Hook's son doe a great job on bass, a killer guitarist and drummer along with keys give a serious energy boost to the Joy Division and New Order sets. I personally prefer Hooks vocals on all of the New Order songs. He has a presence and power that aren't Bernard Sumner's strong suit especially live. I only hope Hook returns to New York soon.

What can you say about Hooky? No backup band required as there no time for one with the marathon set list the band went through. Hooky and the band were simply awesome! They "warmed up" with 7-8 of the best of New Order, then took a break for like 5 minutes. They came back out, did a couple of Joy Division songs, before playing the entire "Closer" album, then taking another 5 minutes break. They came back out, played "Digital" (the last song ever performed by JD), then played the entire "Unknown Pleasures" album. For the encore, they played "Atmosphere," "Dead Souls" and finished up with "Love Will Tear Us Apart." They played for 3 hours!!! As a fan for the past 30 years, it was awesome just to hear the songs played live. Hooky is not Ian Curtis, but after all this time, it was great.

Peter Hook always puts on a fantastic performance, and his latest "Substance" tour is no exception. He performs two albums in each show: "Substance" by New Order and "Substance" by Joy Division. Having been the bassist in both bands from the onset, Hooky knows how each song should be performed to give it that unmistakeable sound. His band The Light does an awesome job, and normally Peter Hook's son Jack Bates is also playing bass. On this tour however, Fred Sablan is playing bass and he nails it like he's been playing these songs for years. If you have the opportunity, don't miss this show!

I've seen these guys 5 times now, and I will every time they come to town. They always put on a fantastic show, and play great songs. The sound mix at The Neptune this time was atrocious though. I'm reasonably sure there was some singing, but the vox could barely be heard, the lead guitar could barely be heard, and the keys were almost completely drowned out. The thump and rumble was way too hot - fine if the rest of the band is loud enough, but in this case that's all there was. Perhaps next time the sound guy (name withheld) will unmute all the channels.

This show was packed. When I saw they were selling out at a few venues, I thought there would be a good crowd, but I didn't expect it to be that full. There was nothing but love for the music as all in attendance were clearly long time fans. The set was impressive covering both albums from New Order and Joy Division. I was pleasantly surprised with how good the vocals were for the Joy Division songs. If you are a fan of Joy Division or New Order, definitely go see this show!

I've never been to a show where the lead singer just didn't want to be there. Yes the music was played but it was so flat. The crowd fed off of the (lack of) energy from the band. Felt more like a lounge act than the energy that is from a New Order show.

The song list was fantastic. Substance songs as promised. 3 from Joy Division. Sound mixing was poor. Venue was very small, a dance club, which does not help. Most of night, music drowned out voice. Minimal backing vocals from other band players. Lost a lot of the intricate sounds that make New Order great. As a former member, and advertising that Substance would be played, thought Hook would have had better sound quality.

Hooky put on a great show at the Wiltern. He's been playing the back catalogues of Joy Division and New Order. To have the band playing both Substance sets was great luck as there are a ton of great songs on both albums. Hooky and the band sounded really good. I did not realize they had been playing together for quite so long; it seems like just a couple years ago when he was doing Revenge and Monaco. The Wiltern is such a great venue. Moby did a walk on during both the NO and JD sets, with his better song being the vocals for Transmission. Pottsy did a nice job with the Bernard Sumner vocals on the New Order songs. Overall just a very good show and remarkably good for the low ticket price. I hope they come back next year and play another couple JD/NO albums at the Wiltern. I would definitely go again.

This music is powerful and always great to hear live. The JD set was stronger than the NO set, however. PH seemed tired during the NO set (this was third show in 3 days, with the first two in NY, that plus the flight plus the time difference had a visible effect). Also, PH is stronger in the rawer form and this time he added more electronics, which I thought took a bit away from it. He was more inspired and authentic in the JD set. I prefer his imperfect rawness to the super polished but cooler presentation of NO shows. Would definitely see him for the JD stuff, everything else is extra.

We bought tickets with no expectation. For about $20 per ticket, my husband and I agreed that we would walk away happy with one or two good songs - but the songs just kept on coming. The band didn't give its audience time to breathe - they just kept on pounding. What an adrenaline! The band performed with such power, I felt it in my soul! We were all blown away with all 31 songs. It was so good that we also bought tickets to their Philadelphia show in November. If they are visiting your town, DO NOT MISS IT!

This show was amazing!! To hear the Joy Division songs performed live with such power and conviction was way beyond my expectations. The opening set of New Order songs was excellent too. He included some of my favorites from Lowlife (Sooner Than You Think and Subculture) which was a surprise. Once I heard Hook left New Order, I was very disappointed as he is, to me, their signature sound. This new band is great and carries on the legacy of both classic bands.
