Silversun Pickups

One of Los Angeles' most treasured new bands, the Silversun Pickups are soon to become a national favorite with the release of their full-length debut, Carnavas. The album delivers on the promise of the alt-rock quartet's earlier EP, Pikul, and its large, fuzzy sound is sure to please fans of the group's stellar live shows. Ticketmaster recently spoke with frontman Brian Aubert about the new album and the band's current tour in support of the release.Ticketmaster: You're in the middle of a U.

It's been only three days but I would go see SSPU again tonight if they were still in town. That's how good the show was. I saw them last year and it seems many others like me have gone back and done their homework to catch up on the body of work this phenomenal band has created. The band members engage with the audience between tracks and with hardly a chance to catch your breath blast into the next. The set list was driving and relentless. Brian is a genius and soaring frontman, Chris is a show unto himself, Joe is a virtuoso on keyboards and Nikki is an Amazon goddess - and possibly the main attraction!

Nice rock music, the only issue is the venue the LC pavillion. if you are not at least 6 feet tall, you will not get a good view unless you are lucky.

The entire show was amazing, starting with Cage the Elephant and Manchester Orchestra. Both performances were well worth the money. But Silversun Pickups stole the show, playing for nearly 90 minutes. I was a huge fan of the band, but after the concert - I fell in love with them.

This was my first show at Ram's Head in Baltimore, and I could not have picked a better one to make a first impression. All 3 acts played longer& louder than I expected - the end result was one of the best live performances I've experienced. I spent the next day doing nothing but talk about what a great show it was. If you missed this one, I would still recommend seeing a band you like at Ram's Head, and definitely try to see SSPU if you are into that kind of music - they know how to do a live show!

Quite possibly the best concert I've been to. The two openers were pretty good in their own right and the Pickups knocked my socks off. All four of them are simply incredible musicians in their own right--put them together and you have one hell of a band. Go see them now while they are still humble--these guys are headed for the top.

I had a great time at the concert! I took my sister and two other friends. We drove down to Richmond all the way from Silver Spring, MD because we like the venue so much more than Ram's Head in Baltimore. It was awesome seeing Cage the Elephant and Manchester Orchestra live for the first time. Cage the Elephant sounds completely different live than on their album. Not really diggin' it. But Silversun Pickups were amazing! The lighting, the sound, their songs! It was all good!

The whole evening was great. Venue was awesome. The bands did a great job. Each band has the potential to become so much more. A little too loud and over amped for Silversun Pickups and Manchester Orchestra. With earplugs I could actually appreciate the music and understand the words. With out earplugs it actually hurt and became white noise on many levels... I am used to load rock concerts so this was not just me... I think all three bands could become superstars if they find their niches... Silversun could really use someone on vocals that has more range... Over all they sound really great but are missing that EXTRA sparc to put them over the top. Manchester may just need to mature a little... It's really a good mix and close to hitting it. Cage could take a page from Panic at the disco and work a little more towards the one hit they have now and push themselves over the top... The more intense stuff is great but won't take them to the top...

Silversun Pickups is an incredibly talented band, and this was one of the best live shows I have seen. Their music is beautiful and complex while still unmistakably hard rock- nobody sounds quite like them. I loved their albums but they don't hold a candle to the live show. These guys (and girl) are real virtuosos.

The band was great, the venue was beautiful, and the equipment was quarky. The opening bands, Cage the Elephant and Manchester Orchestra were pretty good, but through out their sets there were annoying feedback sounds. This lasted through into Silversun Pickups' set, although it was better but not much. Nikki's mic wasn't set loud enough so she had to almost yell anytime she had lyrics.

Cage the Elephant by far should have been the headliner here. Awesome show they performed. Manchester Orchestra was pretty good and overall enjoyed their music. Silversun Pickups = Suckage. I think they were playing the same song over and over just maybe changing the lyrics (not quite sure, they could have been the same too). Watched all of Cage and Manchester...left after 5 songs of Silversun.

this was my first time at Rams Head in Baltimore. It's a nice venue - three tiers of viewing. Even in a sold-out show, you can make your way to the front if that's where you like to stand. i was in the second row for all three bands and had no problems getting drinks and making my way back to the front and center. if you've been to the fillmore in san fran, this is a similar style... cage the elephant was a phenomenal opening act - tons of energy and great sound. manchester orchestra sounded louder than i expected - a good thing! - but didn't play 'i can feel a hot one' - a bad thing! silversun pickups sounded great...they seem like genuinely cool people. if i could only see one of the three bands again, i would definitely pick cage the elephant.

the bands and the venue were both awesome. the ram's head live is the largest and nicest place i've been to see music in the baltimore/dc area. it was well maintained and featured several places to eat, drink, and buy band merchandise. the balcony provides a nice view of the bands, as long as you can get there early enough to snatch up a good spot. my only real complaint with the venue is that the food sucks and is fairly expensive, so don't even bother with eating there. i was somewhat familiar with all 3 bands that played here (silversun pickups, manchester orchestra, and cage the elephant) and they all put on a good show. i'd have to say that they all sounded better live than they do on their albums, which is pretty cool.

Silversun Pickups put up one of the best acts I've ever seen; by far the best concert I've been to, and I've seen 42 bands live. They love their fans, they have so much passion playing music, and they go through every single album (from Pikul to Swoon). Brian is funny, admirable, and has an amazing live voice. One of the most amazing bands I've ever listened to in concert. You can tell they love what they do. I drove 5 hours from Plantation with a fever and a cold to see these guys, and it couldn't have been more worth it. The music they make is truly inspiring and it's hard, as an artist, not to draw or create art to their atmospheric sound-scape. The Florida Theatre was also one of the finest. intimate venues I've ever been to, and would love to see them again at the Theatre the next time they come around.

First off, I can't believe SSPU is touring in small venues. This band is the best thing that's happened to new music in a long time. Nobody is even close to doing what they're doing right now. I'M VERY THANKFUL they chose a small venue like Hoyt Sherman Place, because it was a great opportunity to see them up close and on an intimate level. I gaurantee the next time they tour they will be hitting the arenas. I was very impressed with their live performance. Brian has an outstanding voice and the band plays very well together. There were a few mic hiccups in the beginning of the show, but over all I thought the show was great. SSPU is touring with two other great bands. Cage The Elephant and Manchester Orchestra. They were also impressive. You have to check these guys out if they come to your area. I can't believe the tickets were only $25. We saw 3 great bands play in an intimate invironment for less that what we would pay to go to the movies. Unbelievable!!

This was a fantastic show. I was kind of bummed that Manchester Orchestra didn't get a longer set, but they made the best out of what they had. They were loud and let everyone know who they were. Their emotion for their music was definitely obvious. Cage the Elephant put on an awesome performance, and this is coming from someone who wasn't even a fan. The vocalist had excellent stage presence showing a lot of emotion towards the music. The guitarist even jumped into the crowd for a song or two to play. Silversun Pickups were equally awesome. Halfway through the set Brian and Nikki took off their monitors and they still played phenomenally. It was by far the loudest show I've ever been to but it still sounded amazing. Three extremely talented bands in one show is definitely a good deal.

Rams Head Live is an awesome venue. Besides the floor it had 2 more levels above. It was nice because there was moving space while standing on the floor and it wasn't overly cramped. Cage the Elephant was much better than I expected. The lead singer was crazy, his jumping into the 2nd floor and jumping off was great. Manchester Orchestra wasn't as good as I had hoped. I only heard one song by them before 'All my Friends' and I like their recorded versions of the songs better than the live ones. Silversun Pickups was amazing! They played all the songs I wanted them to play plus more. I would definitely see them again. They looked very happy to be there :) Silversun played a 3 or 4 song encore which was unexpected. Overall good show was worth the 40 bucks.

Cage the Elephant: Fab performance. Could use some professional development. Manchester Orchestra: Freakin awesome. I didn't like them until I saw them at this show. Now I love them. Very passionate lead. (Keyboard/drum dude was quite entertaining in a muppets/animal kinda way...but that's neither here nor there.) Silversun Pickups: They were great. First time for me. Super sound...maybe cuz The National venue has one of only three state of the art sound systems on the east coast (out of seven total in the U.S.)...or maybe cuz the band's sound is just incredible. SSP was very gracious to crowd and openers. Always a plus when the performers aren't azzholes. Heard all my favorite songs plus some bonus material. Very talented band..i don't care what they say about them being a ripoff of smashing pumpkins. Everyone is influenced by someone else in some way.

Was great to finally see Silversun Pickups in concert, and from the third row, too! Crowd wasn't rowdy at all, and our little cohort in the middle toward the front was probably the most excited in the hall! Was elated to hear so much from their latest album, though I would've also liked to hear Cannibal, Connection, Cradle (Better Nature), Currency of Love, Kissing Families, Seasick, and The Royal We; however, for a great band like SSPU, which has a large repertoire of great songs, they can't play everything in one night! They played just about everything else, though. :) My one complaint was that vocals were a little hard to hear; the technician should've done a better mic check. Kiev, the opener, was really good, too. Might have to check them out. Kind of long and jazzy, if you're into that sort of thing.

I know Silversun Pickups isn't even that old of a band but they drew in a really weird crowd. Lot of old white people on drugs, very awkward and uncomfortable to watch their interactions. Even the lead singer of Silversun was weird, I don't think I'll be seeing them again. But the music was okay and that's what I went for. Saw the Silversun Pickups for the first time at Bogart's in Cincinnati. Must have been an amateur sound crew. The vocals were unintelligible the whole show. Usually they adjust things so that you can hear them after a couple of songs. Thanks Bogart's for the shower of water dropping from the ceiling. Great atmospheric rock and roll from group that has been delivering well over a decade but still toiling in some obscurity. Good songs and guitar. Only blip is weakness of lead singer's vocals. He has a soft voice that gets lost in the group's big bass, big drums and very big electric guitar mix. Heavy duty party mix, no matter what. Crowd loved it. Warm up act A Silent Movie also excellent.

I love the pickups. Their music is awesome and I'm my opinion they are one of the few artist currently putting out good music. The Silent Film was great, loved heir stuff. That being said, I was a bit disappointed by the frontman. He was obviously drunk and it showed in the way he played. The band did a great job compensating for him either being too slow or muffing some notes. He played the older stuff flawlessly though. The GSR music guy could've been better too, it's took them way too long to adjust sound. Overall good show.

First of all, the show was kicked off by an amazing band! Kiev was so unexpected; I'd never heard of them before but they were epic. They were the perfect band to set the vibe, but then A Silent Film came out on stage- not such a huge fan but i do admit they got the crowd chanting and dancing. Silversun Pickups were unforgettable as always! They played so many great songs and had just the right amount of banter in between songs. The auditorium was very cool and personal. Big enough for a big mainstream band, and small enough to really get up close and personal with the performers. Overall experience was seriously unforgettable; i will always get chills thinking about that night.

I love the Silversun Pickups, but to no fault of their own, this was not their night. Blame it on bad acoustics or poor sound engineering, their mix was muddy and the vocals were set so far back in the mix that they were barely audible. They deserved better then that. This was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. The band was tight on stage. The vocals were clear. The fill in base player was awesome. She was having the time of her life. Still missed Nikki though.

The smallness of the venue and the closeness of the stage just made for an intimacy with the group. The announcement of Nicky having twins was a mixed feeling. As she was not going to be playing on tour. So it was really cool being at her last show for a while.

Five great bands, one stage under the blue summer sky. This was a fantastic experience. All the bands were fabulous, but my favorite had to be The Naked and Famous. I am a big fan now. Love the SB Bowl. Nestled up in the hills, there was a great view of the town and ocean below. When nightfall settled onto the Bowl, the stage lights hitting the surrounding trees and the stars and moon above turned the place into a surreal landscape. Unforgettable show. My only regret is not buying my ticket earlier. I had a nice seat but it was too far from the stage. Next time I will buy earlier before the pit tickets sell out, so that I can stand up close and get a better look at the bands.

Loves the early start concert at the Bowl. Great local opening band. The sun was beaming and so were the fans. Garbage ROCKED the house. We, here in SB are so lucky to have such an AWESOME place to enjoy music.

I had a great time at the Greek! The Silversun Pickups are so talented! And the sound engineering was perfect....they sounded just the way they sound on the album. Nikki is the best bass guitarist, I love her. I just wish the drum kit had been moved forward, because we couldn't see the drummer at all from the south terrace. Also, the opening act, Against Me! were pretty good. I enjoyed their old-school punk sound.

They were great at Pet aid in 2009! They were fantastic with Muse in April, and they were even better when they played the crystal! I'll always come to see them when they're on the west coast!!!

Silversun Pickups performed to an excited and eager audience at the Palldium in Dallas last night. They performed with an intensity and vigor that energized their already complelling songs. Performances of their big hits like Lazy Eye, Panic Switch and Well Thought out Twinkles were well done. But it was their execution on songs like The Royal We, Three Seed and Catch and Release that really demonstarted their greatness. Front man Brian Aubert engaged the audience with his vocals and lively guitar playing and distortion-filled solos while the much more subdue and unassuming bassist Nikki played impressively at bass. And one cannot be quite certain how drummer Christopher Guanlao mananges to keep his head attached during his energetic playing. It was a great show in a small venue that will surely be remembered.

Silversun sounded as good if not better as they do on their albums. Brian Aubert was excellent and wwatching each of the musicians individually was very entertaining. The only problem was Aubert seemed very full of himself (never introduced othe rmembers of his band, talked a lot between songs, stayed on stage two or three minutes after his bandmates left) all in all it was a very, very good show. silversun pickups are one of the best bands i have seen live. Against me! was also surprisingly very good.

Silversun Pickups are are by far the best band ever!!! I've seen them 3 times in Chicago and all three times were inSANE! they perform with full intensity. SSPU is a state of mind. Words do not explain. The only explanation would be that this band is from some unknown world. Alien Gods of music.

Really. Gone to hundreds of concerts since 1983, and this is without a doubt the best concert I can remember. Maybe because I was in the front row, but mostly because of the amazing work of the main act.

Great show. They sound amazing live, can't understand why this band isn't massive.Nikki the bass player is so cute you just want to hug her and the way she acts on stage, it's like watching a little girl put out some amazing kick ass sounds.( Muse should have opened for them) The venue is great easy to get to and from, views of New York unreal have a few more shows there can't wait.

Silversun Pickups did a very nice job entertaining the crowd last night. However, if you are looking for a wild and crazy "rock-n-roll" show this is not for you. The stage is very simple and so is the light show, though both feel like enough when you are watching. Small venue - and I would see them again there in a heart beat.

Though my overall experience wasn't stellar, the actual show put on by SSPU was. So I will give it 5 stars. The venue was not great and the opening bands were terrible. But let's face it, you're there to see Silversun Pickups, and that part of the experience was amazing!

I've seen several of their shows in the past where they were the headlining band and once when they opened for Muse. This show was definitely a step in the right direction for them. I prefer the venue to be smaller rather than large, and this was about as big as I would like it before it gets too big. Not as intimate a setting as the Cannery in Jackson (December 2009) but much better than their opening set at the Toyota Center where they opened for Muse (March 2010). They come with a light show of sorts this time. Not overdone with huge amounts of strobes, LED boards, or lasers, the stage is nicely themed with a backdrop of a plain white sheet that changes in patterns of color along with the intensity of the music, small strobes on the stage floor, and side lights that illuminate SSPU in some cool lighting affects. They stuck to their usual set list from concerts past, playing an excellent mix of songs from their EP Pikul, their first LP Carnavas, and their latest Grammy nominated LP Swoon. Unfortunately, if you have a good memory from previous concerts of theirs, you already know what their opening, closing, and encore numbers are, but at least you're prepared on what to rock out to. They were opened by The Henry Clay People and Against Me!, both groups that I have heard of but haven't listened to. Both were different types of rock (first being hipster-ish and the second being anarchist punk themed) but were very enjoyable. Rather than get to know an opening band before I hear them live, I like to experience them firsthand in a live setting and then look them up after the fact. Crowd surfing was "allowed" by the staff, and it happened about 5-10 times during the entire night. Being new to concerts, but seeing about 10 decent to large sized ones in the past year, this was new to me. Enjoyable to watch, so long as the crowd doesn't get too out of control (it is a rock concert, after all).

Although the opening band, Against Me, did only an average job on most of their songs, a couple of popular hits made the opening act a fun experience. Once Silversun Pickups walked on the stage, the light show began and the band absolutely rocked! The light cues on the large, white screen behind the band was entrancing and suited their music. The drummer had a very simplistic drum setup with the crash symbol adjusted so that he had to almost stand to reach it. This made his drumming more theatrical and he did not fail to impress with his flawless skill. The four-piece band was in perfect unison the whole time and played about ten to twelve songs in their set. After the band was finished the audience demanded an encore, where after approximately ten minutes of cheering ushered in the band to perform a final three songs for their encore! It was a great experience and I would definitely see them again.

This was my first Silversun Pickups concert and I loved every minute of it! They are amazing. Sounds just as great live as they do on the radio. I completely forgot how wonderful Foals is. They rocked the house!! Would totally go see their show next time they are in town. Love both of these bands. Not crazy about Highly Suspect. They were okay. I believe their music maturity level is not as great as was Foals and SSPU. BUT overall an awesome show. Thanks!!

The only reason I went to this concert was to see Foals, a British band from Oxford, England. Foals did not disappoint. They know how to get the party started. Yannis Philippakis, the lead singer, has a powerful voice that echoed through the Aragon. From the very beginning to the end they will keep you singing and jumping. Foals are absolutely incredible and everyone should experience them live. Silversun Pickups were alright, but they weren't really my cup of tea. So basically yall, go see Foals live.

The show as a whole was amazing! The local opener was ok, nothing that stood out though. Circa Waves and Wolf Alice were good, I enjoyed Circa Waves more. For the Headliners, Foals was amazing! They put on a great live show and they sounded great! Siversun Pickups were also amazing! We have seen them 3 times now and they never disappoint! They even played a small "tribute" to Scott Weiland, (R.I.P). Foals and Silversun Pickups are definitely worth seeing if you get the chance!

The only bad part about it was my friend drove all the way with my friend, my husband and I and she couldn't get a ticket since it was sold out. The venue is cool! We didn't stay for the rest of Foals (unfortunately) or Silversun Pickups. We left early after meeting Wolf Alice.

This was my first time seeing Foals and SSPU live (I missed the other acts, sadly). It was a great concert! Both bands play an excellent live show with a great sound. Foals has a high energy and exude the definition of rock. SSPU is a band I've loved for years and they did not disappoint. It's amazing to see only 4 people produce such a large sound!

Great event and venue. Stage crew did a really good job of quick and efficient set changes (~25 min. between bands) to keep the music coming. I was REALLY disappointed with the opening act Clubhouse. They were like one of those fake bands from a Disney TV teenager sitcom. I KNOW there are better bands than that in Columbus. Luckily they were the only bad act to play that night. Circa Wave was up next and they were a GREAT start to the rest of the concert. They came out and played fast, hard, and loud not stopping until about the third song. The rest of the concert continued in that fashion. Silversun, the headliner, was good but their vocal mics were a little too low to hear them clearly. Overall though, a great conert and a fabulous price! Thanks CD102.5. Merry Christmas!

We came in after the first 2 bands were finished, so I can't speak to them. But when Wolf Alice hit the stage, my entire being became focused on the music and it didn't stop until after Silversun Pickups' set was done. It was one of the most amazing concerts I've been to. I came to see Silversun and walked away a huge fan of both Wolf Alice and Foals.

The opening act Mona was pretty good, which get the night off to a good start. When Silversun Pickups took the stage it was flawless. Each and every song was executed perfectly. In fact, they are one of those rare, rare bands that actually sound better live than recorded. I would recommend this show to anyone. The venue was pretty cool as well. A nice laid back vibe and friendly concertgoers.
