John Butler Trio was unbelievable. From start to finish I never wanted to look away. Incredible performer and a great band. The spectrum of the music was all over the place, but always felt cohesive. Can t recommend seeing him/them enough. Also, getting seats at HOB is definitely the way to go and worth the extra money

JBT pulls every type of music genre; rock, blues, blue grass, tribal, jazz and combines it into one of the best performances I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. His guitar solo had the crowd in awe and the sound coming from the stage was sure to shake anyone to their soul. JBT doesn't only put on a show, he makes you feel the music...every beat, every chord, every octave...it's an experience. An experience that one will never forget and a concert that raises the bar on how music should be played...undeniably from the heart and soul.

It was in front of 500 people, and they rocked the crowd as usual! The crowd was fantastic...clapping in time and singing along with at least 50% of the songs. The set list was a typical set from last tour, but 3 new songs were played, and the crowd seemed to like em. John thought this was his best LA crowd he'd ever played to...it was cool. It's rare to see a performer of his caliber in such an intimate setting. Great show, Great crowd!

Seriously, this is one of the the best bands you're not listening to. Wickedly entertaining, crazy solos, and John Butler is hands-down one of the most exciting guitarists you'll ever see play. Seriously, I got this from a wizened bartender at Lincoln Hall who confessed that he's seen a helluva a lot of rock shows but this guy can really play guitar.

John Butler as usual was awesome. I didn't know what to expect as the last time he had a different drummer and base player but new members were just as good. The Lincoln Hall was a great nenue for this show and I stoodf right next to the mixing board so acoustics were perfect. Can't wait til he comes back to the Riv this summer though now spoiled being able to see him at a smaller venue. Also, drinks proces were reasonable unlike other venues. No doubt a 5+ star rating

The last JBT show was 3 years ago at Palladium NYC and that rocked as well. Here we are 3 years later and he is better than ever. I was first blown away with the cutting of dreds. But that not matter his face is most beautiful and his new songs seemed to sound out of his norm but still has the original JBT sound. Being at Bowery made it even better. A smaller venue definately made the experience even better. The trio are most talented musicians I have seen in awhile. I am going to see Citizen Cope tonight at the same venue. But I know that Cope may not give such a great show as JBT had last night. Go guys and keep on rocking! Hope to see you guys in a concert on the other side of the world. 143 - Love Love Love!

This show was really so fantastic. There honestly isn't a bad "seat" in the house and by that I mean it is standing room only on the main floor and that is ok because you are so close to the stage all the time! John Butler was FANTASTIC! The band, his voice and his charisma were electric. I love seeing him at this venue and go every year :)

The Mama Kin Spender opening act was shear delight with insightful lyrics and enchanting storytelling. The 'band' (duet) offered a few amplification tricks filling the amphitheater with much more than one could hope for. The inspiration for composition showed an intelligence rarely publicly displayed. John Butler Trio came out as a quintet with visionary compositions and harmonic motion lifting the audience off its seats. Exemplary instrumentation and execution was rewarded with obvious admiring fans. This reviewer was impressed with the depth of the troubadour Butler and his willingness to share his most personal journeys via musical energy. Bravo.

If you like a few John Butler Trio songs, please make an effort to catch a live show. While I LOVE love love the recorded music, I was completely blown away by the concert. The guys-John, Bruce and Nikki-all superb musicians and a live show really sets them free. It's obvious that all of them love to play in front of an audience, and they knew how to entertain, too. It's not very often the drummer engages the fans in a reparte, but Nikki does. The music drifts between jam music, reggae, rock, blues, and rap. I know, it sounds crazy, that's the beauty of it. Only three incredibly talented guys could pull it off and make it fun, too. Check 'em out! You won't regret it.

Great show! John Butler gave it his all and the fans loved him for it. What talent! Great sound, great venue. Played an extra 30 minutes! Only suggestion, shorten the drum/bass solo. It went on for 10 minutes!

The band was great...just feel good happy music. But seeing 'Ocean' played live, especially in a small venue, is one of the greatest things you will ever see. It made me realize again why I spend so much money on live music....just breathtaking.

John Butler killed it yet again! His dazzling ability to ignite the crowd and share his love for music prevailed on Friday night in Oakland. John Butler Trio played multiple greatest hits along with some personal songs that lie close to JB's heart, ie. A Star is Born. The band even came into the crowd for a Call and Response drum session. They walked in the heart of the crowd and had everyone sit down and generate our own music with the drum beat. The band created an intimate experience with the crowd uniting everyone together as a community. They thanked their longtime friend and manager for the many years of success and love on their tours. They played for a good 45 minutes after their first departure. With out a doubt, John Butler, with his electrifying personality and inifinite zest for sharing his love of music, stole the stage yet again and blessed all Fox theater attendees with a night to remember and a story to tell.

Show was amazing!, Packed full of energy and the mood in the first ave venue was awesome as usual. I drove 600 miles to see John play ocean and i dont regret any moment of the trip.

This was my 4th time seeing state radio and it was probably the best show I've seen. The weather was perfect in the outside stage in central park. It took us a while but my friend and I managed to get in the second row and were right in front of Chad Stokes. The performances were amazing as they went all out like usual. They had so much energy on stage and connected so well with the audience. John Butler Trio was also impressive although I wasn't too familiar with their music. I would recommend anyone to go see either of them! (Especially state radio!)

Going into the show, I never heard of State Radio, but coming out I can say I am one of the newly converted! These guys rocked the foundation to its core. And when John Butler Trio came out, they blew the roof off! JBT just took it to a whole new level. I have not seen this type of skill display in a while. Switching between multiple electric guitars, to banjo, then to slide guitar, this was trully a mind blowing experience. And then the bodacious drum and bass solos, that was over the top. I always said, as good as the music might sound on tape, you can really tell how great a band is by their live performances (think Britney Spears who lip syncs). Last night, State Radio and JBT delivered tenfold. Do yourself a favor and see both bands, you will not be dissapointed.
