We really had just a vague idea what Peter and the Starcatchers would be about. We understood that it was somehow a prequel or origin story of Peter Pan. Doesn't matter. A cast of 11 men and 1 very brave gal bring us a new way to tell us a robust story about kidnapping, high seas drama, shipwrecks, native tribal killers, and a blustery captain who starts the evening with two hands. What makes this show fun? The cast is having fun. From their horrible non-sequiters and corny jokes to the man-playing-nanny and leg kicking, scrap bra wearing all drag mermaid chorus line, the incredibly fast and energetic cast will win you over, wear you out, and let you in on all the fun they're having. Nothing is better than seeing a new way to tell a story. There are too many creative fun ideas used in this play to describe, but this was original theatre at it's groundbreaking best.

The show bears little resemblance to the books and has none of the magic and charm that Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson put into the stories. The pacing is frenetic. The cast is constantly working; therefore trying to connect with the narrative and actors is difficult. Parents who are not ready to explain a cross-dressing nanny named Mrs. Bumbrake, or parents who are not ready to explain how two men could be attracted to one another will want to avoid this show. It's really not kid-friendly for those kids who are still sheltered. That said, my 17-year old didn't like it at all and we both couldn't wait for intermission to arrive.

Sorry but did not think this lived up to reviews. Certainly not a good choice for children-with all the snide asides and crude meanings and "gay" nanny. I took my ten year old granddaughter-she got some of it and some of the jokes like "time for bed-Pan" ridiculous. Some clever things done with ropes etc. and may have come off a bit better in small off-broadway production. Also after all the "tongue in cheek" and strange doings to have the very END come back to the original with Wendy going home to "grow up" and Peter remaining a boy had no connection to the weird goings on before. Also could have benefited from more music. Would certainly not recommend-I'll stick with the original!!

This show was a hit for both the adults and kids (8 and 12) in our family. The best of Dave Barry's humour from the book was cleverly translated to the stage, along with ingenious sets and clever musical numbers. Black Stag really stole the show, but everyone was terrific. We highly recommend it!

One of the funniest and most entertaining shows I have ever seen. The writing is brilliantly ironic and cleverly creates thevintroduction forms the basis for Peter Pan. It was nothing like I expected. I guess I expected a story like Billy Elliot. This was too Improvised for my taste. . I guess parts of the dialogue were supposed to be humorous. But someone forgot to tell the audience when to laugh. My husband and I gave it 45 minutes and then we got up and left.

A completely wacky and thoroughly entertaining musical portrayal of Peter Pan and how he arrived in Neverland. Vocally and dramatically exceptional. Particularly interesting visually was the use of a long rope to create impressions of ships, waves, boxing rings, and more. Actors never seemed to stop moving during the scenes and transitioning between them...always something to watch.

60 minutes of my life I will never get back, and I say only 60 minutes because that is when we gave up our expectations of getting our moneys worth of entertainment and opted to head home to watch paint dry instead. A high school play has better set production, not at all what a five time Tony winning play should provide. Confusing interchanging actor rolls, sharp quips that garnered more laughter from the actors themselves than the audience soon became more annoying than entertaining. We passed more people leaving the theater than those heading back in after the intermission. Very disappointed.

My wife and I are fans of the theater stage and have seen most of the large touring Broadway productions. We were not entirely prepared for what Peter and the Starcatcher delivered! This production was crafted in such a way that it forced the audience to use their own imaginations to complete the set. The show was also quite humorous in a Monty Python type-of-way! We would highly recommend it and actually see it again given the opportunity!

The show had a rather abrupt start and it took a little while for me to become invested in it. However, after a few scenes, I began to enjoy the entertainment more. Some of the dialogue was difficult to hear/understand. Also, I was expecting more of a musical, but this performance only featured one true musical number. Black Stache was the stand-out role/performer. Overall, fun story and wonderful exercise in using your imagination!

This play was darker than we thought. The first half hour Peter is a tortured orphan afraid of of the dark, with scences of his beatings. There is very little music too. As a mom of two young boys I did not enjoy how much cross dressing there was. Definetly not what I signed up for. It is inventive acting as it is the same 12 actors switching roles. However the only people laughing at the jokes were teenagers.

What a fantastic way to go into a blizzard weekend! Surprisingly, because this was a road company and not a new production by a regional theatre or a Broadway show, this is one of my top ten favorite plays I've ever seen. For me the show started upon entering the theatre. The preset setting and false proscenium were magical and breathtaking. This proscenium rivals the magnificent one produced for the Broadway production of 'The Secret Garden.' Like a facade of antique gold and other metals and gems, it shimmered and gleamed. Then, as you examined you realized it was composed of found materials - not fancy plaster work at all. Clever artistry at work - which was exhibited through the production in both sets, costumes and awesome lighting effects. The cast was brilliant - no one was inferior to their job - and they had plenty of work to do. The staging was intricate, constantly moving, smartly choreographed and beguiling to watch. With the exception of Peter and the Starcatcher (who will grow up to be Wendy), everybody plays multiple roles and they do it adroitly and cleanly. During the musical numbers (it's not a musical, but there are several songs sung), the voices are clear and pure. It would be easy to pull out Peter, Smee, the Starcatcher, Black Stache (Captain Hook) as the stand out performers, but I believe they were part of an ensemble in which every person made every moment count.

This show is honestly the best play I have ever seen. The props are so simple, that it let's your imagination take control, a the while not letting the plot veer off focus completely. The jokes are so witty and the quick one liners make this show stand out from the rest. Also, the connections of accidents that happen in Peter and the starcatcher to how things happen in Peter Pan create multiple aha! moments.

I left mesmerized from the theatre after seeing Peter and the Starcatcher. I had just been on a magical journey with the cast, a journey that made me feel like a kid again. Without any special effects, I was transported to a world where the magic of starstuff felt like a reality. The cast was incredible - everyone was complete spot on at all times! Perfectly choreographed from the first moment, each formation and motion helped set the scene as actors played not only many characters but also served as walls, doors, etc. Though it is not a musical, they sang (and made sound effects too), adding to the magical moments. It was no shock to me when Christian Borle won the Tony Award as his performance as the Black Stache was beyond incredible! Celia Keenan-Bolger as Molly is also such a treat...really, the whole case worked so well together you could tell they were enjoying every minute of it! ... and so was I :)

To say that I enjoyed myself at the Theater watching PETER AND THE STARCATCHER is the largest understatement of the century! This show brings storytelling to a new level of frivolity and entertainment. At the intermission I was able to gather my composure and let my muscles rest from laughing and smilling so much. And I was glad I did. The 2nd act had me gaffawing! Which I didn't mind as those around me were laughing so hard it became contagious. I was totally bowled over and surprised by this play/musical. I see almost everything on Broadway...especially musicals and the title and cast attracted me. However, since I never read reviews I was not expecting the irreverent humor and almost seemingly improvisational nature of this inventive and often hysterical play with music. Of course I can not imagine the production being a success without the enormous talents of Christian Borle who stole EVERY scene. He was so funny and adorable that it appeared that the cast (who were EXCELLENT in their own right) found it difficult to keep a straight face in his most animated scenes. I personally...a confirmed comedy cynic, found myself screaming with laughter over Borle's acting. SUPERB. SEE THIS SHOW!!!

Comedy like this is hard to come by. It was completely refreshing to see and be surrounded by families who all sat with thier kids to watch Peter and the Star Catcher and just laugh. There were jokes for the young and old. Nothing was off the table so to speak. The best part for me was the simplicity of the wardrobe and the imagination of a simple rope. My daughter and I walked out chatting about how we can now make a simple mermaid outfit and what fun and how funny the entire show was. Not to mention the wonderful cast that needs no extra mentioning but I will say they each have their own unique role and no role is bigger than that of the other for they all had big roles. It was non-stop the entire show. Energy was at an all time high for every moment. We can't wait to see it again with my older daughter when she comes home from school and we plan to take my Mom as well because it is not to be missed and should be seen by everyone and anyone who can attend. In the end we went out back to see all the stars come out and get autographs. Our biggest perk was getting to meet and get Christian Borle's autograph. This is one show where the book is was great, but the show is even better.

I felt like there was a lot more things they can do to improve this show, they definitely need more people for the cast because it makes it really confusing when you re watching the same cast from one ship become the cast for the other ship. Basically most of the characters had double roles and you just didn t know when they switched. Also each character was narrating and I also felt like the show could ve been a lot better if they had a single narrator. As I said, this show need a lot of improvements. I left during intermission because I was very confused and was so disappointed with the show.

I rarely so strongly disagree with the New York reviewers but I thought this play was confusing, disjointed, and hard to understand. The fake British accents meant I understood about half the dialogue missing all the jokes. The performances and actors were great but the material was boring. Many left early. I am familiar with Peter Pan and know this was a prequel but it seemed like it was assembled by a committee of 7th graders and not rewritten. I only stayed cause I thought it had to get better

Very different than expected, But very entertaining! I think the way the cast performed each scene was very creative. Not only are they decent actors/singers, but they improvised for many of the props they didn't have on stage, using themselves as the actual items! They also would rotate from scene to scene, explaining the situation of each character. The comedy was slap silly. I especially liked "Black Stache" in a hilarious scene involving his hand. All in all, it was a great show! Glad I got to experience seeing it!

Saw this show on Broadway and wanted to see it again, it is very unique and won a lot of Tony awards for its creativity. I would categorize it as a sophisticated comedy more than something for children or a musical. It is very funny and not inappropriate for children, they just will not understand most of the humor. It is very fast-paced and you'll need to pay attention from the start to catch it all. The Touring company is very good but two of my favorite moments from the Broadway show were disappointing in the tour show: The place where Black Stache becomes Captain Hook (no spoiler here!) was done completely with physical comedy on Broadway - facial expressions and body language that had the whole house in hysterics (literally tears from laughing so hard) but a boring/blasphemous verbal tic on tour. And the yellow bird was a treat on Bway. Otherwise I'd give it A+ for a touring version. Sound quality could have been better but that was probably the venue.

Entrance to the Energy Center was good. This was all NEW to us. We've been searching for a good play since visiting the Orlando Repertory center in downtown Orlando while on vacation. Unfortunately, and comparatively, "A Christmas Story" and "Peter and the Star Catcher" were at opposite ends of the spectrum. The actors were acting, it was even cute at times, our seats were Front Row, "H", but with the given acoustics, my wife as an ESL student was lost. I being collectively astute and thoroughly fluent in English had a difficult time following along. The plot was simple but actors conveying it were "mumbly" or somewhat over anxious to deliver their lines. Perhaps they were trying to contend with the given acoustics in which they must perform under or in. The girl was the best, a wannabe who portrayed her part well, and the same wannabe that also had to contend with this hole-in-the-wall theatre. In light of this contentious review, we did not know this story and thought of it as a "Peter Pan" thing that was at best a tangent of an undeveloped crew trying to express the story line of what could've been a good story in a poor venue. All in all, it was cute but unimpressive. We suggest a trip to Florida.

I have read the book, and know one of the authors personally. All I can say is that the first half of the play was good, being interesting. The second half, however, was tedious. Too long a time was focused on one topic. By this I mean the characters are together in the treasure chest of stardust, and too long a time was spent debating over the dust, when it could have been done in half the time, and then moved on to something. My date and myself found ourselves wondering "when is this going to end?" If only you would shorten the scenes, and maybe add other scenes from the book, it would improve.

The show would have been a good college or community production, but disappointing as a professional work. I paid $105 dollars for a $30-40 show, and that makes me less likely to throw away my money again. This tour is a non-union low-budget shadow of the original production. The playing area was pulled way back to make a tiny stage in the middle of the huge stage, which suggests they didn't even expect to perform in a real theater. Stay away from this one.

This was not what I had expected. More a comedy and quality of a high school play. Not worth what I spent. Sorry to say. I was looking forward to this with my daughter who read the book and loves Peter pan

The actors in this play were very good at keeping the audience wanting more and they made you feel as though you were part of the show.

One of the worst plays I have ever experienced. To call this a "musical" is quite a stretch.

Peter and the Starcatcher was a surprise to me. In the age of sequels and prequels, I had never heard of this one. In a salute to all things slapstick and Monty Python, the audience was kept on its toes by the rapid dialogue and constant insertion of modern references in addition to the physical comedy and fluid set changes. I know that if I saw it again, I would enjoy laughs that I had missed. All the performances were spot on, but the Stache adds the candles to the cake in Act 2. See this if you can, but come ready to give it your full attention.

I was surprised altogether with this show. I didn't realize it would be like Spamalot! There were definitely some funny parts but overall it was confusing and sleepy. Truly almost fell asleep twice.

I was looking forward to this show, having enjoyed the books with my kids and having read glowing reviews of the Broadway show. It was surprising to find myself feeling underwhelmed after half an hour and quite let down by the end of the act. During intermission I did some Google research and learned that this was one of the increasing number of non-Equity touring companies of Broadway shows. Local venues and production companies, in an effort to reduce expenses and increase profits, create a "xerox" copy of the original with young, less-experienced actors who are not yet union members and take it on the road. It can be a great opportunity for someone trying to break in to Broadway but it's not the same thing. If I go to a small community theater or university, I'm prepared to make allowances, and if "Peter" had been staged by students I would have been an enthusiastic audience member. But when it's billed as a Broadway show I expect a level of professionalism that makes the ticket price worthwhile. I know that many audience members don't really see the difference and are ready to give a standing ovation to any production with enough energy, but from now on I'm going to make sure it's an Equity company before I buy the tickets.

I was tired at the end of a long week as we took our seats. I also don't remember much about Peter Pan. So things started a bit slowly. But as things went along, I got into it more and by the end, walked away saying it was actually pretty good. It actually inspired me to figure out Peter Pan again. While I had thought about my six year old grandson going along, I now realize that he would have been a bit young, although nothing would have offended him or his parents if we had taken him.

The performance was just "ok". Yes, it was funny. However, a lot of the dialog was missed because it was hard to understand with the thick accents. I wish I had spent my money on another play.

The comedy for the most part was very original, but had a hint of Monty Python to it, which I love. The story was difficult to follow at first since it was so fast-paced and complex, but about a quarter of the way through the show, we were able to figure out exactly what was going on. Once we did, it was very enjoyable!

It's was hilarious. It's worth going just for the second act. The first act I thought was more cool, creative, and impressive as far as how the actors used themselves and their materials to create a world on stage. In the second half of the play my friend and I were laughing so hard we were crying, and the audience was laughing so much at certain points we all broke into applause for certain people on stage. I highly recommend this show to anyone particularly because of the second act.

I hadn't heard of it before checking out the show listings and it was well worth it! It was funny, entertaining, didn't die down part way through, and presented the story in a unique and captivating way that also made you use your imagination as well. Highly recommend.

Peter and the Starcatcher was a hilarious event. The actors were wonderful and the story was entertaining. The Black Stache stole the show, he is a very talented performer. My 13 year old son came along and enjoyed it as well. The lines were a tad hard to decipher in the first 10 minutes of the show - the actors spoke too quickly and didn't project very well, but as the show went on that wasn't an issue

I came with high expectations. Some people who saw this play in NYC said it was fantastic. I fell asleep in the 1st half. It was hard to hear the actors. The staging was pretty static. It picked up a little in the 2nd half. I suspect that I was not the only one, because I saw a number of people leave at intermission. The only saving grace was the actor playing the future captain hook. He had energy and played it over the top. I would not recommend this performance.

My daughter and I had read "Peter and the Star Catchers", and we were excited to see the stage presentation. What a disappointment. The show vaguely resembles the book, but only very vaguely. Very minimal stage props and music. Often looked more like a high school play. Badly written script - very hard to follow the plot. I was glad I had read the book in advance so I had some hope of figuring out what they were trying to present. Humor often ranged to far into modern times. Felt out of place. Highly disappointed in this show.

I know that plays and movies almost always differ greatly from the books upon which they are based, but this one went so far over that it might as well be an entirely different story. I loved the book but would not recommend the play.

LOVED this show!!! I have not read the books, so I knew very little about what to expect. The cast had me in stitches at moments( especially during the "Ohmigod!" scene), and close to tears at others! I enjoyed every moment of it, and I even bought the script for a perfect souvenir! I will definitely see it again if I ever get the chance!

hilarious dialogue, whimsical story, amazing set work! The actors create a wonderful scene every time they move! A fabulous combination of great theater, and theater of the mind. Best for kids 9+ (my 7YO was a bit lost, the 13YO loved it). Whether you've read the book, the series or neither, the story of how Peter Pan became Peter Pan is clever, inventively staged and hugely enjoyable.
