Bob Newhart and his take on humor is still as fresh and funny as it was 50 years ago. What a delight and pleasure it was to see him live at the Chicago Theater. His routines were fresh and new, and even the reprise of his driving instructor routine was performed as if it was done the 1st time. Anyone who ever has a chance to see this legend perform live should grab it with both hands. I will never forget that evening.

The historic Chicago Theater was ablaze with charm, humor and class on Friday, October 22 when famed comedian, Bob Newhart, returned to town. Born and raised in the Chicago area himself, Newhart had never graced the Chicago Theater's stage before, making the venue all the more historic on the night of his first performance. Attendees were greeted by friendly and smiling theater staff, refreshments and drinks were available in multiple locations within the venue, and additional staff was readily available at every hand to provide directions within the venue and seating assistance. Once seated, the art deco grandeur of the Chicago Theater, with its colonnades and extensive period artwork, made for a truly unforgettable first impression. The night's entertainment began with a full big band, of the style Newhart would later recount seeing on-stage as a Chicago-area youth in the 1940's. Solos by an accomplished clarinetist/saxophonist, trumpet player, and the band's trombone-playing leader along with the superb vocal stylings of the band's lovely singer made for an appropriately classy introductory act. Following the big band's performance, Newhart himself performed for more than an hour, sharing his signature brand of understated and quintessentially sweet humor. In addition to his classic "Driving Instructor" routine, Newhart shared a great many other jokes, often delivered in a wide-range of accents. He also told stories about growing up in Chicago, what it meant to be "raised Catholic", his collection of country music song titles, humor in-the-news and more, often surprising the audience with less than "politically correct" (though usually quite funny) observations that fans of his network-sanitized television shows may have never experienced the like of. The evening ended with two encores and, for those who braved the cool autumn air outside the stage door until his departure, personal photographs with the star himself. All in all, Bob Newhart's historic Chicago performance was most definitely a night to remember!

What a great show! I laughed more that evening with a veteran like Bob than I have hearing many current comics. His timing, delivery, and material are still spot-on. The classic stammer, pauses and double-takes really sell the jokes and stories - and help make for a hilarious performance. Bob has you feeling like you're spending an evening at a party he's giving at his house where he's entertaining after dinner. Even the video he played of classic clips from his TV shows and other television appearances (Dean Martin show, Tonight show, etc.), and photos of his family, felt like he was showing you his home-movies in his living room - just another example of his likeability that made for his successful TV series. His affection for Suzanne Pleshette (who sadly passed away in 2008) is clearly apparent when Bob led the applause while the famous "dream" clip from "Newhart" played. The evening was best summed up when after his encore and final bow, a few people in the audience yelled out "We love you Bob!" and he responded "I love you all too!"

Bob Newhart has been a stand-up comic for 50 years and he's still got the timing and wit we have enjoyed throughout his career. We're glad he's still touring ;-)

Opening act was out of place. Newhart was very entertaining. Peabody's intimate atmosphere made it seem like " An evening with Bob". I could have listened for another hour! Let's not wait ten years to bring him back. Flash photography was a bit distracting.

Bob Newhart was excellent. Could have done with less from the singer. I paid for a comedy event not a jazz event.

It was delightful. It kept us entertained and laughing for the entire performance! We also were impressed with his timing.

Mr. Newhart is an amazing performer and even more so due to his age. He did a full hour of stand-up without batting an eye. I hope I'm that sharp at 80! We're so glad we got to see him while he's still performing. Just wish he had included the "telephone" routine.

This Vegas-syle show was awesome. The band and singer were unbelievable. The show started right on time and Bob Newhart hasn't lost a beat. We were rolling in the aisles. This show is definitely worth the price of admission!

Mr. Newhart's comedy was as you always knew it be would......having you crying with laughter.

It really is hard to believe that Bob Newhart is 80 years old! He did a solid stand-up routine, interlaced with some of his classic material from his best selling comedy albums, for over an hour and a quarter! That was after a solid warm-up performance by vocalist Connie James whose voice is very reminiscent of Dionne Warwick. At 80, Newhart is not afraid to be irreverent. I guess after 50 years on stage, TV, and the big screen, he can do whatever he wants to do. I was amazed by his energy and enthusiasm. He didn't "call it in" like many veterans. I hope that he stays healthy and continues to perform for years to come!!!

The show opener (singer, Connie James) was dated in her selection of songs. She should have stuck with more sultry tunes, such as the "Fever" number she did. When she tried to sing other songs, you could not understand her mumbled words. She was trying too hard to sound like a lounge act. I am almost 50, but the audience seemed to lean towards the high end of the 50's. It was thrilling to see Mr. Newhart whom I have always admired for his professional adaptability and personal character. The jokes were funny, although his delivery is not as sharply "Newhart" still. The old video clips were great and his encore was well appreciated, by the crowd. I gave this 3 stars, but could have been coaxed to a 4 star rating if the opening act had been another comedian (more contemporary) or Mr. Newhart's time on stage was longer. All in all, my husband and I enjoyed the evening. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Newhart.

I cannot remember when I laughed so much. The audience was roaring with laughter. Bob Newhart is a true classic comedian. His humor does not shout at you. Bob's stories gently roll across the audience and pulls you in until his great timing produces the ending gesture or punch line. Then the true definition of "laugh out loud" takes over and vibrates throughout the room.

Bob Newhart's show was a refreshing experience. No politically correct jokes, no pervasive profanity, and no red faced feelings. It was the clean, fun loving insightful moments that we enjoyed in his two sitcoms of years passed! He has the timing of a great performer! The evening ended too soon...it made me want to go out and buy another ticket for another show! The auditorium was packed and the laughter was none stop. It was a lovely evening.

The Bob Newhart show was 5 stars. He did some vintage Newhart skits. I did like the little film at the end. It was just a very enjoyable evening.

Bob was great and enjoyable. I would have liked him to go longer, but I understand the nature of the job of comedian. Personally, I would have liked to have skipped the singer and just started with maybe a song or two from the band and then right on to Bob.

Bob Newhart presented a lively 80 minute show including his famous 'driving instructor' site. The nearly sold out house was in constant laughter as he covered a wide range of topics in his humor. A highlight was a video review of his early career and clips of several of his TV appearances, most notably an appearance on the Dean Martin Show. A most enjoyable evening.

I laughed through the whole show. Can't believe he is 80 years old. Loved the clips from his earlier television shows. Great evening!

My wife and I bought tickets for a 53rd aniversary for my 83 year old father and 80 year old mother to see Bob Newhart last night. I couldnt have been happier than when they showed up at my doorstep last night after the show beeming like teenagers. They loved ever bit of Mr. Newharts show. They recited many of his bits with big smiles. There were moments when the two of them could not stop laughing to recite the joke. Moments like that are very special to me!

What a pleasure it is to sit and enjoy just good, clean humor. He is right... "you can't make this stuff up"! My husband and I roared through the whole show. It brought back great memories of his television shows and the great recording of "The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart". His humor never goes out of style and appeals to both the younger and older generation.

I thought the show was great. Classic Bob Newhart comedy from the minute he took the stage. Show lasted 1 hour. Laughed more than I thought I would!

Have loved Bob Newhart since the 70's! Finally got to see him! Room size was pretty good for venue. Opening act was unexpected, but, she had a great voice! Bob is indeed, King. I laughed the entire time, along with the rest of the audience. Great show!!!

A dream come true to see a living legend. At 88 Bob is still as witty as the best of them! Harrah s gets credit for booking such a great act at their venue. I d pay any amount for this event!!

He is still entertaining Even my 30year old girlfriend really enjoyed the show. Although, i was hoping for a Larry, Darrel and Darrel joke And a Big Bang Theory reference.

bob was on for an hour...the pre show could be cut

Bob Newhart ad-libbed, told stories about his life growing up, and even did an old classic or two from 30 years ago (the driver instructor). He had the crowd laughing for a full hour and got TWO standing ovations.

Bob Newhart is a blast. Just left his show tonight at lindenwood in st Charles MO and am still smiling. His timing and sense of humor is priceless . If you get a chance see him. A Must!

Saw Bob Newhart last night at the La Mirada Theater. I first saw him 45 years ago in Chicago when both of us were much younger. I have seen hundreds of comedians over the years, even dabbling in it myself over 30 years ago. For a little over an hour, without notes or even a glass of water (would have recommended that to him if I could) Bob spins joke after joke. His act over time has evolved into kind of a career retrospective, including a clever "home movie" that he narrates which includes a nod to his various TV shows. He did the Driving Instructor last night as his routine from his albums, which belongs in the Comedy Routine Hall of Fame, if there was one. THAT wasn't even his finish. The show was a very satisfying night. How many 87 year old comedians do an encore? Bob does.

At 87 years of age, Mr. Newhart did a solid, tight, warm, witty 85 minute set, no notes, with consistent energy and fun. It was a thrill to see an absolute master share his talent with us.

One is always cautious making reservations to see an 87 year old performer, now matter how great. I have to admit keeping a careful eye on the news as the concert date approached. Yet once the performance began, it was obvious that Bob Newhart has lost none of the impeccable timing he had in his youth. He mixed fresh material with a few flashback sequences to his "Button Down Mind," days, and he added some stories of past stars he worked with. I would not hesitate to recommend your catching Bob's next performance. Hopefully, it will be one of many more.

Starting with out shout out to the Cubs World Championship and memories of going to his first Cubs game 81 years ago, Mr. Newhart told a variety of very funny jokes and stories, including the classic Driving Instructor from his first album. He did live narration of a video of his family history which including some of his favorite clips from hist TV shows.

We attended a packed show in Boston @ the Wilbur. No warm-up acts - it started right on time. Bob had us all laughing immediately, and the laughs lasted throughout the evening. So glad we got a chance to see him in person, very impressive, even at age 87!

From beginning to end, Bob was hilarious. I laughed all night, not just little chuckles, but outright belly laughs.

Bob still knows how to tell a joke. Always a pro. I just lov d the show from start to finish!!!

Bob Newhart is still the guy I remember His humor is wistful and funny. He sees the funny side of life. There were many laughs and he did some of him memorable routines from the past.

I have been watching reruns of "The Bob Newhart Show" since I was a kid. I so enjoy the dry humor of Bob and the comedic timing of the ensemble cast. I have the entire DVD set of "The Bob Newhart Show".

Didn't realize Bob Newhart was 87 when I booked the tickets and was somewhat concerned. However, he was great. His timing was on, he was funny and able to ad-lib and interact with the audience as well as any comedian we've seen. Only criticism was the show was a little short, but then again, not bad for his age.

I have enjoyed Bob Newhart my entire life. I love his humor and delivery. His TV shows were great. At 87 he still has it. He didn't skip a beat, still sharp, funny and witty. It was a most enjoyable show.

The venue itself needs some freshening like a fresh coat of paint. The staff was friendly and helpful. Bob Newhart was just great; an icon.

Bob still has great timing. I could tell the same jokes and they would not be as funny. He also took a nice trip down memory lane. He started with the Cubs wining the world series and never missed a beat. He is getting up in age so the show was only 75 minutes long.

Saw Bob Newhart at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, CA. Absolutely great show, with a great comedian who is as original and fresh as he was back in the 1960's. Anyone can go to his shows without fear of filthy language - even your priest, rabbi, preacher, and your grandma - just plan on laughing constantly throughoujt Mr. Newhart's entire performance! If he plays anywhere within driving distance, we are going again!

Bob Newhart was a delight and funny as ever. He did new and old material and gave a very worthwhile performance. I would do it again and felt it was an honor to be able to see him in person. Everyone stood up and clapped.

Great, great show. I know he is 86, but it's hard to believe. He gave a great show. I laughed the entire time. The clips that he had of his appearances on Ed Sullivan, The Tonight Show, a skit with Dean Martin and he had Dean laughing so much he had a hard time delivering his lines. The look back at his TV shows was wonderful. It was a delightful evening and I'd recommend it to anyone!

I grew up listening to Bob Newhart records with my father. He still is hilarious. Laughed through the entire show. Don't miss it.

I can't think of a single joke he told that couldn't have been told 30 years ago, but he had a few times when he made some jokes in the moment and he's still got it!! His show is funny, wonderfully politically incorrect and surprisingly musical with his 10 piece orchestra playing before he came out and they were truly the best of the best. The piano player was close to us and he was unbelievable. Good show! Was worried about the smoking at Morongo as the last show we saw was also at another Indian casino and it was horrific and this time it was so minimual it was REALLLY ok for myself who is on oxygen with lung related illness and my daughter with asthma.

It was a real treat to see this icon, his dialogue was so broad and touched on so many issues of people in everyday situations with a humor only as he can express.

Once he gets going, there's no stopping him. He tells stories from the past and the present and they're all hilarious. He also showed clips from the past that were classic. Loved every minute of it!

The casino did a great job with there nice theater, Newhart was so funny and has an excellent show. The entire show, including the Jazz group, with Newhart having everyone laughing non-stop.

With 55 years of material, I was hopeful of a bit more show than we got, but what we were given was a lot of fun.

My husband and I really enjoyed Bob Newhart! We had never attended his show before and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that he is really a super nice guy. We felt like we were in his living room listening to him tell jokes and stories. We really liked the montage of his appearances from years ago on the Dean Martin Show and Ed Sullivan and snippets from his prime time shows. In person, he isn't the deadpan guy you are use to seeing on TV, he was really, really nice and very, very funny. The guy is 86 years old, still going strong and is as funny as ever!

Great show for folks who grew up watching Bob! Show starts with some live jazz, then Bib does an hour of standup (old and new stuff). He ends with videos and photos of his shows with jokes along the way. Great guy!

Bob Newhart has always been a favorite for my wife and myself and seeing him ion stage was really a wonderful experience and time. We really enjoy Bob's standup and we would not hesitate to see him again!

He still has it. Arrive late to miss the opening act, but Bob still has the timing, the voice, to deliver a monalouge like no other.

I was excited to take my father to see Bob Newhart. Paid for seats up close, in the front section. Much of this performance was tired jokes. There were a few zingers but the show was not worth the price. I found myself fighting off sleep and did indeed fall asleep more than several times because the material was just not funny. My father, who really liked Bob, even said, 'well that certainly was not worth the price of admission'. Go to your local comedy club and take in some tried and tested or up and coming comics. Better atmosphere and a better chance to have a good time laughing.

We saw Bob Newhart @ the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City, Louisiana on July 11th. Bob put on a really good show and was funny as always. The 5 piece jazz combo was great, too.

Bob was as funny as I expected. I have watched him for my whole life. I hope I can see him again.

Bob was right on target, well rehearsed, and deserved the standing ovation. The sound system at the theatre had a mumbled sound which made some of the words hard to understand. Overall, a very enjoyable night with a legend.

I've been a fan of Mr. Newhart since The Bob Newhart show. Newhart was also a favorite and I would have stuck with Bob if the network hadn't cancelled it. I enjoyed this show although I missed a few punch lines. I blame my hearing more than his delivery. I really enjoyed his video. The scene from The Bob Newhart show is still hysterical . He is a class act and very refreshing in this age of "dumbing down"

The show was great!! We loved it. What I was disappointed in was that I had purchased a package deal with the buffet and show, but I misunderstood and thought the buffet would be available at the show since I had never been to this theatre before. When I realized my mistake, it was too late to eat at the buffet because it closed before the show was over. Is there anyway we can get credit for something at the casino? Thank you. Maureen Moke

Bob Newhart is still funny, but I could have done without the 1/2hour or so of an unknown band and singer before he came on. It would have been better to have more Newhart, or another comic opening for him. It was like seeing a show on a cruise ship. The sound system did not work well, and even though I was in Row 3, I had problems hearing Bob Newhart. The " on-screen" review was overly- long. Where were his famous phone conversations?

It was great to see Bob Newhart to perform in person after watching him so many times on television. He is a treasure and I hope that he comes back to the NYC area again soon. We missed his last visit to the Bergen PAC a couple of years ago.

We enjoyed Bob Newhart's show. The opening act was lame. Could have done without the female singer and just listen to the band which was actually relaxing. As for Mr. Newhart, he's 84 and a legend so a bit of a break is necessary here. His jokes are worn and more geared towards the 70's and 80's but it's Bob. We would have liked to heard more about his life/times/experience working in Hollywood and the other celebrities he's worked with. A little bit of that came through when they showed video clips of him during his career, but the taped music was louder than Bob's voice and we couldn't hear what he was saying which sucked. Overall for the price of the seats we sat in and a night out, it was worth it.

Newhart isn't doing too many shows but if you get the chance to see him GO! I went reluctantly and was more than pleasantly surprised. He still has IT! I laughed from beginning to end. A must see.

Bob Newhart is a funny as ever; a great entertainer. He could use a more lively warm-up act. The singer's choice of songs were such "downers' that the audience got restless.

The show was great. Mr. Newhart's humor was dry but funny. It may take some getting used to but was enjoyable. There was very little swearing and he told some funny stories about his career and people he knew.

Bob Newhart was his usual Funny self with material that makes you roar...He is a StandUp Comedian first and foremost. Becky Orsatti opened the act and it was like listening to Liza Minelli, Judy Garland all rolled into one. A powerful evening...Ready for more...

Mr. Newhart was everything you would think he would be. He was charming and very funny! I never new what an impressionist he was. He was just great fun!

Bob Newhart was always one of my Dad's favorite comedians, so when he was going to be in Mpls near his birthday, it was a no-brainer. That was Friday. Last night my parents spent all of dinner recounting the sketches and jokes! They loved the show and we were all laughing till we cried when they re-told those jokes last night! Highly recommended!

While I grew up with Bob Newhart, I never really appreciated him til I was much older! His dry sense of humor and lack of the f bomb was very refreshing and a lot of fun. His jokes weren't hurtful and based on funny things in every day life! At the end of his show, he showed a short video clip of some of the shows he's done and people he's met...amazing to think he has spanned from Ed Sullivan to David Letterman! I thought he was fantastic and would go back again in a heartbeat!

I grew up watching "The Bob Newhart Show" and I LOVED it! I also loved seeing Bob Newhart on "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson. I remember a skit he did as Sir Walter Raleigh justifying growing tobacco in the colonies, that was a HOOT! His humor is so droll, yet sophisticated. I am SO glad I got to see Mr. Newhart perform as a stand-up comedian before I died. Bob Newhart truly is, An American Treasure!

We so enjoyed Bob Newhart! Classic comedy. He still has it... His style and his dry humor are so natural - he doesn't "force the laugh." Great memories of years gone by.... And - Heather Moran, the warm-up performance - WOW!!! I would go somewhere just to hear her. She was really good! Great date night out!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening with Bob Newhart. We have always loved his comedy, but we have never seen him do stand up. We were not disappointed. We had front row seats because my husband needs the leg room. It was great to be that close but the front row was actually too close to the stage and it was uncomfortable to look up the whole time. Also Bob showed a video during one of the encores and the only screens were very hard for us to see because we were actually in front of them. Not his fault, the venue should not have added several rows of chairs in the "pit" area. Also the singer that was the warm up was good, but not great. Not sure if she tours with Bob or was hired by the venue.

What a privilege seeing Bob Newhart, a living legend. Quite worth the 100 mile drive to see him.Even after so many years of stand-up his sense of comedic timing is unmatched. I always believed it is much harder to do a clean act and Newhart is a master. He also struck me as the consummate gentleman. After the show he was willing to take a photo with each person in line at the stage door. An unforgettable evening!

The man is an American GEM!! There's not much else to say.
