I took my two four-year-old granddaughters to see this, their first live play. They both were entranced by it and each told me it was fun. No prompting parents to say so. We had a lovely time. This play was lively and engaging. The girls loved the dancing and costumes.

took my 2 & 4 year old grandchildren to their 2nd Children's Theatre event. Although I & my daughter-in-law enjoyed the show, we felt that the "all ages" designation was not appropriate especially for the 2 year old, and just barely for the 4 year old. Based on this, only rated the performance as "fair". I would not recommend this event for children under 5. It did not keep their attention and without some intermission, it was too long for them. Took them to "Giggles" last year and they both were captivated.

My 6 year old was mesmerized! When it was over he asked if they were going to come out again and if we could come see another play. Charming performances and the play worked in many of the best lines from the three books. Liked the overall message of everyone is special in their own way.

First time at this theatre and seeing a play from the OCT. Great first experience. My 4 yr old son and husband loved it, as did I. The cast, set and music were wonderful. My son was glued to the stage and characters. Would highly recommend seeing this play.

Couldn't possibly have learned more while having that much fun. It is an original production that challenged us to understand environmental issues, multi-cultural interaction, and the tug-of-war between fitting in and being an individual, all the while impressed by the score and acting talent. The next day my wife and I overheard our two daughters swapping insect facts. The older daughter (12) exclaimed, "Now where did you learn that one?!" The younger (10) replied, "It was in the play!"

Not having attended a Rock Opera before I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The scene unfolded with out a hitch and the set changes flowed right with the music. The cast was highly skilled at encompassing the young audience and making them feel a part of the show.

My husband and I took our grand daughter to see Alice in Wonderland, The Rock Opera. It was a delightful mix of great music and a wild story. Perfect show length for kids, too. We all enjoyed ourselves and appreciate the opportunity to spend a fun time with our sweet girl in a theater setting.

Fabulous twist on the age-old story of Alice! As always, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum shine as outstanding characters in a surprising interpretation. The Rabbit carried the show with a great voice! Technically, some actors seemed to not be on microphones which made their solos almost inaudible- like the opening Alice! Choreography was refreshing and fun!!!

I know, I know ... it was a rock opera, nevertheless it seemed very loud to me. But I enjoyed the color and the fun. Some wonderful songs -- especially the Mock Turtle. It helped to know the story ahead of time. My 9 year-old granddaughter was bemused. She is active in musical theater for children in San Francisco, but when I asked point-blank if she enjoyed it, she answered "No."

This is the first time we went to this type of play. It was fast and very entretaining. It reminded me of "CATS" The "tie-in" of Alice being bored, bored, bored, and her trip to Wonderland was a good twist, and well done. The actors, players, were talended and very athletic. A very enjoyable play.

WonderWhyWeWent
Just before we left to see this rock opera, we talked briefly about the somewhat once popular idea of how this children's story was either loosly or purposefully connected with a drug-induced LSD "trip". Surely, we thought, it being a children's rock opera this idea wouldn't be given a second thought? But no-- we were saddened and disappointed to see that it most certainly was. Alice's original Wonderland, which was a colorful, whimsical, creative "free for all" was updated here to be more closely related to a "wonderland" that might be found in any inner-city's dangerous back ally. At one point, it even appeared to my adult daughter that bubbles were being blown through a bong. Costuming and sets were unimaginative, dark and dreary. Definitely, we were disappointed. However, a congratulations to the singer/actors for seeming to make the most of what they could with what they were given. Although we thought the choreography/dancing was at best fair, the music itself was enjoyable, overall. Though we adults could barely understand the words to the songs ( without the basic understanding of the original story, one could be pretty lost) melodies were strong and predictable enough to carry the story. In the end, there definitely was not enough for us to be excited or enthusiastic about for us to become subscribers, a sales pitch that was made to the entire audience before the opera began.

My granddaughter was troubled by the cast who continuously picked on the only child in the play. She saw them as "mean" to Jack, the narrator. The ugly duckling scene portrayed an ugly duckling becoming an ugly duck being bullied and teased by the other characters. Somewhat funny, but then again not. The original tale had a redeeming message. This had none and was a bit over the top. The humor was more for adults than children. The subtleties were lost on my granddaughter. I didn't find it all that funny either. She was bored and a little upset. I actually snoozed through a few minutes. Overall, disappointing.

We were near the front. A few times in the first few minutes people entered from off stage to "surprise" the narrator. They shouted very loudly (as actors need to do to reach the audience in the back) and scared my 4 year old so badly that we had to leave the theater and didn't come back. (There were a number of other young kids in the lobby who experienced the same fate) We had grandparents with us who offered to stay in the lobby while we watched the rest of the show. Curious and sometimes creative alterations to standard fairy tales, but a lot of the humor was a bit negative and mean spirited. For kids who don't yet make a distinction between appropriate behavior in the "real" world vs the "theater" world, I think this would require a lot of explaining. (Why was so and so shouting so much at ...? Why did so and so play a mean trick on ...? etc) We've been to a number of performance over the past year. Each has been magical in its own way (ZooZoo and Return of Cats, a few of the Tears of Joy puppet theater, Curious Garden Theater). We had high hopes for Stinky Cheese Man, but even if our 4 year old hadn't been so scared that he had to leave 5 minutes into the show, I think we would have been disappointed. In my opinion, the show lacked the imagination and the sensitive to be successful for an audience under 5 or 6.

I purchased these tickets for my 5 1/2 yr old granddaughter's Christmas present. This was her first play, and we had tickets front and center. She was mesmerized throughout the entire show, and when it was over, I asked her what she thought... "OH, I LOVED IT!" Afterward, it was nice and very organized, the way they set up an area for the children to meet the performers and sign their programs. In addition, all the staff were very helpful, and thanked us for coming to the show. The costumes were great, lighting and scenes were fantastic, and the performers did an amazing job! I will certainly be taking her to more plays here in the future!

Knowing the storyline and some of the dark things that happen, I opted to leave my 3 year olds at home and was glad that I did. My 7 and 9 year old loved the play. We had front row seats and they felt very much a part of it all. I did notice some screams or crying from little ones who had come (as there were some scary parts). I would recommend this for kids aged 5 and up. My 7 year old even covered his ears and eyes when the witch was slaying aslan. I would definitely go again. It was a lot of fun.

The adaptation was perfect for small children. The violence was cut back, and the length of time...an hour...was also appropriate. This was my two grand children's first experience with live children's theater. The loved meeting the actors afterward and can't wait for their next play. I also appreciated the price reduction for their seats over adult prices.

Decent production that most children will enjoy. Quality of actors varied quite a bit, from enthusiastic apprentices to solid veterans, which I suppose is to be expected from an OCT production. Props were good. Costumes for certain characters seemed a bit odd (e.g. Fawn was a bare-chested young man. . .???) Overall, good weekend entertainment for 6-10 year olds.

I thought that the price for an hour long production was a little high but my niece loved it and so it was worth it. She was in awe that she got the casts; autographs and she loved it. A couple of hiccups were that we were not made aware that we could purchase a gift bag with a poster, wand and tiara and they only sold them before the show so my niece didn't get one because we didn't know. Also, they hand out coupons for a free cupcake but it is not the cupcake stand in the lobby. You will get to the front of the line and they will ask you for three dollars. It wasn't a problem for us but just a heads up.

My grandaughter and I had a very good time we both laughed. We thought the actors we're very good and you could hear them well. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is at the end of the play they handed out coupons for free cupcakes to the children, Then having the refreshment stand seem to be handing out cupcakes only to be charging 3$ per cupcake. You hate to disappoint the child after such a fun time you get sucked in to the scheme.

Pinkalicious was my 6yo Granddaughter Lexi's first play and what a doozie it turned out to be. Stepping into the pink festooned rotunda and just feeling the pinkness bubble up around you. Entering the theater where the pink-expectation just sweeps you into your seat and then and then Pinkalicious has you in a spell of suspended pink-fascination for 55 glorious minutes.

Gathering Blue by the Oregon Children's Theatre was sensational! My family and I enjoyed the performance immensely. We were so sad when it ended. We all loved Lois Lowry's book and hoped this performance would match its intense drama and storytelling ability. We were not disappointed! The set and costumes were terrific. This is a perfect musical comedy for the young child (ages 4-10) and their respective parents and grandparents. The acting, singing and dancing were great; the pace was appropriate, except for the section on Christmas which was slow, uninteresting and lacked energy compared to the rest of the show. The sound system at times seemed to fade in and out, however overall it was a very good quality production with wonderful actors! It's a gift for Portlanders to have this organization in town.

This was a great show. The performers were outstanding. My ten-year-old was thrilled with how true to the book the show was.

Show was quite good for kids. The physical humor content was just right for the target audience.

I was expecting something more interesting but I totally got bored with this play. Although my son (5 years old) had fun but mostly I think all the jokes were totally silly (the mouse falling down or throwing stuff on the floor).

This play was recommended for "all ages" and it most certainly is nothing that a 5 year old could relate to. Please be more specific about your target audience in the future.

The play was entertaining and educationally fun. My 3 boys loved the music and songs. It was just the right length to keep them engrossed. It ended before the antsy pants set in.

My kids (boy 6, girl 3) loved the play. My daughter laughed and danced in her seat, and my son has been saying lines from it. I loved the theme too, never too early to start this important conversation, and a fun way to do it too.

I enjoyed the show. We did end up moving as neither one of my children could see the stage (we were in the front row balcony). The singing was good and both my 5 & 9 year old children were kept entertained throughout. However sending the 4 of us to see the show was over $100....just too much to recommend to others without letting them know the cost. I want to go see more plays, but will have to limit this as a "special treat only". :-(

The cast did a great job, but it was way over the head of small children...not much for the children to visually react to. I would not recommend it for all ages.

The play was great, a little loud and felt rushed but my 5year old enjoyed it, especially the jokes.

Dreadful adaptation. Took the fun out of the book; message driven with Portland inside jokes and offensive product placement with large Kaiser Permanente sign in MD office. Wouldn't recommend it at all.

My friend and I took our daughters, ages 3, 3, and 4.5. They loved it. They were able to pay attention the whole time, which is impressive. The show was adorable.

I took my 3 1/2 yr old daughter to see this show because she's been so into the whole Pinkalicious series. She dressed up in pink... pink dress, pink headband, pink wand, pink boots. She was surrounded by all the other pinkerellas in the audience. The cast did a great job engaging and interacting with us. The music was fun. I'd definitely recommend this to any parent who has kids that love all things pink!

Olivialicious
My 3yr old granddaughter and I attended Pinkalicious... Olivia was dressed in Pink from head to toe... it was so fun to see all of the young girls in their Pinky Best.... This was Olivia's first theatre experience... she was totally mesmerized... The set, music, and performers were amazing... it was such a fun experience..... We stopped and purchased a Pinkalicious Book on the way home, which I read to her that night... When I took her home the next day, we stopped at the market, and Olivia asked for pink marshmallows and pink jello.... I look forward to bringing Olivia, and her brothers, Connor and Desmond to more childrens theatre productions in the New Year... Thanks for helping me make such a wonderful memory with my Granddaughter...

My 5 year old was in awe the entire time. It was a little much for my 3 year old but she handled it well. Just the right length for kids and enough of the wonderful visual stimulation to keep the interest even if the story line was over the heads of the littlest viewers.

I couldn't believe that this musical latest 1 hr and that was with a few scenes missing due to an injury with the brother, Peter. I understand that plays are live and accidents do happen. But what happened with extras to fill in now and then.
