Seen unclose at The Madrid Theatre in Kansas City this was a real treat. The core musicians all present and their high energy current vocalist made for some great energy as they ran through selections from their longstanding body of work. Tried to see them last year in their hometown during Jazz Fest and couldn't get tickets. Funky and danceable the whole floor at Madrid was moving. Just wish more of KC would have made it out to support this great band.

Had an awesome time. JJ Grey and Mofro rocked as openers - gotta love their sax player and bass guitarist! Although I've never heard a whole lot of Galactic, they had some incredible musicians, especially the guest trombone player! However, the fans seemed to be less than polite to say the least. Talking the ENTIRE TIME so you couldn't hear the bands play. There was hardly any moving or dancing in the pit. And if one more person tried to con me out of my place for a better view,..... Even heard there was a men's room discussion about how terribly rude the fans were!

Wasn't sure what to expect when we decided to see Galactic because this line-up sounded 'sorta hiphoppish ... not to worry (anything Stanton is involved with can't be bad) - it was fantastic !! You gotta see Corey Henry striding through the crowd with his trombone flailing away, and people ducking the slide !! The energy level was through the roof, and never a dull moment. All the musicians were on their mark, and of course Stanton was layin' down the groove like a maniac !! - Great big buckets of Funk.

I've seen enough live shows to know that I prefer the fusion jazz freestyle sound of the hippie concert to anything else. I went to Bonnaroo '04, not knowing what to expect 5 years ago and was completely amazed. By the bands I knew I'd enjoy: The Dead, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews; and even more so by this amazing fusion jazz sound from Medeski Martin and Wood and Galactic. I went back in '05, determined to listen through the entire show for Galactic and my mind was blown. Honestly, their album is lacking, but live, I can say there is not a better performing band that I've seen. Or that has even come close. The way in which they control the intensity of the music to a degree that manipulates the crowd is incredible. It makes you almost beg for the imminent climax of each perfectly timed song. Five Stars.

What an amazing set of musicians. Have now seen them 3 times in the last year and I appreciate them more each time. Stanton Moore on drums and Corey Henry on trombone are the highlights but there is not a weak link anywhere on that stage. The funk jazz jam band were spot on in Atlanta from the opening song. Never stopped dancing the entire time. Might have to become a groupie!

The show was just ok. They didn't have the same singer as before (Maggie Koerner). They brought in several singers and special guests, had lyrics borne on a few tracks. The vibe was good not great and they were better last year with Maggie who stayed w them all night. Con brio singer was amazing! He's a good singer but an AMAZING showman!! Hope he succeeds in the future. Closest thing to MJ that I've ever seen. Through the last 15 years I've seen Galactic a dozen times and will continiue in the future. Would love it if they brought back some of the old tunes!!!!

Hadn't heard of either band prior to the show and I am SO glad that I went. And I actually liked the opening act better. Don't get me wrong, Galactic killed it too but Monophonics just brought it from the heart, could really get in the groove with them... (having the crowd sing along with you is always a pleaser!)

Galactic has the same five man core, along with Corey Boe Money Henry on trombone again. This was the same as last year. Additionally, they have a Maggie Koerner on vocals. She looks to be about 25 years old and looks a bit like LeAnn Rimes. She has a soulful Cajun voice and danced around a lot. I liked her poise and stage presence. Yes, she s young but she s got talent. Obviously Galactic have had her for almost a year now. I noticed many people wereless impressed. I get that most came here to see Galactic but Galactic definitely takes on the personality of the vocalist. Sure, not as funky during some songs, but we all agreed that we respect Galactic for trying a new endeavor each year. I like Maggie, though, and was happy she has a run with Galactic. From what I remember, she sang nearly half of the songs tonight but I think much of the crowd would ve preferred more like just a quarter of the songs. Once again, though, the energy they brought was great. As usual, I wore my earplugs and stood to the fore of the group. I can t really hear the conversations with that much noise and I think by now many of the people understand that.

I have been a fan since the late 90's and have seen the band 20+ times. They are always different because they now change the lead singer. Could be Blues, Rap or ? vocals. I have only seen them with men lead singers but this was the first time they had a lady singer that I know of beside short stand ins. . She was very talented but i would say she was more of a jazz singer than blues. They had the crowd going early than slipped a few slower songs in the middle of the set. There is so much talent in this band you have to go see them. I will be seeing them again in a couple weeks...and whenever I'm able. One of my FAVORITES!

JJ Grey & Mofro were awesome! Really loved seeing them. I did feel the event was misleading, I purchased tickets thinking JJ Grey was headlining when he was the opener. He played for 90 minutes. We then waited over 45 minutes for the tear down and set up of Galactic to go on. There was only what sounded like a radio station being played over the speakers during this time. We stayed for the first 3 sounds from Galactic and then left, just weren't into the music style. The venue itself was very no frills, maybe a low budget converted warehouse. Standing room only. There were bar tables and chairs upstairs, I would have paid more for the option to sit up there, but was not given the option when I purchased the tickets.

Galactic came out and played an amazing set Saturday night. Instead of Corey Glover singing lead vocals, they brought along Louisiana native Maggie Koerner, who was amazing and really added punch and vitality to the show. Galactic played their usual tight, tight set. So tight you'd think they're reading each other's minds. JJ Grey & Mofro, with whom I was not familiar before seeing them for the first time opening for Galactic, were also excellent.

I've been listening to Galactic for more than 10 yrs, both in various concert venues and on CD. Their music is fantastic, in that I love the instrumental styles; however, I was disappointed in some of the songs involving the female vocalist who joined them on this tour. The encore session was a let down for me. Ending the concert with a Michael Jackson cover instead of their own music was a big disappointment.

Galactic Funk blew the roof off the Electric Factory. Alternating between laying down funk jams and the vocal talents of Maggie Koerner, the band played two hours of awesome. I have seen Galactic many many times and they never disappoint. They usually play their annual Halloween and Lundi Gras shows at Tipitina's in New Orleans, and I must say I do like that venue more than the Civic Theater. That is not to say the Civic Theater was disappointing. The small venue made for a very intimate concert and the small crowd made it easy to go in and out of the show as you wished. I would not only suggest, but encourage people to see Galactic live. They put on a show that cannot be duplicated or recorded.

I had seen them back in '99 and loved them but had not seen them since. My wife and I were not disappointed. They did covers from my two favourite groups ever ( The Beatles and Led Zepplin) and nailed them both ( I Am The Walrus, When The Levee Breaks). their own stuff was amazing as well. I am both glad and sad that they are not better known. Glad because watching them in a small venue is great but sad that more people aren't turned on tho this incredible energy that is Galactic.

What to say? 1st I have seen Galactic several times and they always bring massive energy and positivity. Corey Henry is the illest on trombone! They had a guest singer, David Shaw, and the guy killed it. Very soulful singer but pulls off a wide range: "I am the Walrus", "When the Levee Breaks" What!!!!??? So sick! And the guy had a smile from ear to ear like he fully enjoys being on stage and having fun. Toots and the Maytals!!! A legend that is a must to see. Charisma, chop, humor, amazing super soul voice! The guy's songs have spanned generations since the early 70's. "Pressure Drop" "What's My Number" (no that is not Sublimes song, they cover it)... the songs are timeless and beautiful live. Go see either of these bands if you have not yet!

I can start by saying that The Space at Westbury is a great place to see a show. Its really small without a bad seat in the house. We bought seats but ended up standing by the stage. Galactic rocked. The band was tight and what I really like about them is the horn section which really gives the music a full rich sound. It was my second time seeing them and they as before, they were good but this time they had a secret weapon, Maggie Koerner on vocals!! she and the band killed it on Hey Na Na!!!! they played a few covers as jam bands will do closing with Gimmie Shelter. Just a really great evening.....

Toots was amazing and got the crowd going wild, so by the time Galactic took the stage the place was in a frenzy. Great mix of instrumental songs, vocal ones, and cover tunes. The band was very tight and the trombone player was giving it his all. David Shaw was a great fit on the vocals. House of Blues is a great venue to see a show and the sound is excellent.

Another great night for Galactic at the Fillmore. We're so lucking to have Stanton Moore, Richard Vogel and the rest of the krew coming to San Francisco so often and this time they brought back with them the great New Orleans sound of the Soul Rebels! What a show! Its always great to see Steel Pulse wherever you can, and they didn't disappoint. I hadn't heard of Galactic, but I played some of their songs in the weeks leading up to the concert and was excited to see them too. Well... they rocked it! Great live performance band. And the ticket price was reasonable! And that's how it should be. I also gotta say Terminal 5 is a pretty dope place to see a concert. Really open, full, but not a sardine can. Access to beers was pretty decent too. I love going to GA venues, and I'll definitely see another show here.

An amazing show, with each musician plying his instrument with absolute mastery (including guest trombonist Corey Henry and guest vocalist Cyril Neville). I normally don't care for solos, but Robert Mercurio's occasionally distortion laden bass solo and Stanton Moore's drum solo (including grabbing a snare, walking to the front of the stage while playing with one stick while sounding like two, and having bandmates hold and bend tambourine and cowbell to round out his mobile drum kit) were riveting. The crowd was enthusiastic, but ethereal, so you could freely move around without feeling packed in, and of course everyone was movin'. Great show!

Once again Galactic prove that they are an amazing and highly energetic band. Their live performances are full on emotion and sheer enjoyment. This is not a band you could ever call going through the motions. They enjoy themselves and by extension do the same for the crowd. Seeing and hearing Cyril Neville was another treat and one that I shall remember for a very long time. This is a band you need to see live. Their recording are great but nothing beats that edge that they have when seeing them in person. The opening band, John Brown's body, did a great job getting the crowd going and were thoroughly enjoyable in their own right.

This was my second time seeing Galactic and man am I glad I went. I was pretty beat from the week and almost stayed in, but the show was more energizing than any cup of coffee or cold shower. The usual singer was sick, so Erica Falls filled in and she tore the roof off the place. What a set of pipes. The audience was really into it and everyone was dancing and grooving. There weren't a whole bunch of guest musicians as is sometimes the case at Galactic shows, but they didn't need them. Fantastic musicianship and great pacing with the set. Go see them.

I have been a long time fan of Galactic and I suspect this was just a case of mismatched expectations when they had a female lead vocalist. Do not get me wrong in that she was talented vocally but it just felt out of place and I think would have been better suited with a male vocalist who s voice parallels more with the original singer. Outside of that the band itself was spot on and just as talented live on stage.

My third time seeing Galactic. As expected Neville was superlative fronting the band. I had never heard of Erica Falls, but wow! incredible stage presence and beautiful, powerful voice. These two really let the regulars of the band create a powerful, lasting experience. Very lively, great variety, and well, just funky funk. T5 is somewhat maligned, and the main dance floor Is not huge, but it handled a sizeable crowd very well several large bars conveniently located. $4 coat check is a joke, though. I also enjoyed Soulive, but as an old fart I would've appreciated everything starting an hour earlier.

I titled my review that way because being a big Galactic fan, I have many shows with which to compare this past weekend's show. While good, comparatively speaking - it wasn't as good as other Galactic shows I've seen of late. But - as is the usual with them - they put on a great show - Cyril Neville & Erica Falls were awesome! When Erica did that vocal thing - playing notes with her voice - I was in absolute awe! The venue - Terminal 5 - is one of my favorites to see a show - I love the multiple floors - so you can really move around and see the show from different views. One thing I must say - I really REALLY hope that someone from Galactic reads this - bring back Maggie Koerner & David Shaw. In my opinion, one of the best Galactic shows I've ever seen was back in 2013 when they both took the stage at Terminal 5 with Galactic. That is the show that I compare all others to!

A great band with a great drummer that we ended up having relatively little time with during this evening. Was so happy to see after 2 years Cyril was going to be the lead singer again. Well something happened to Cyril and Erica stepped in. I'm not saying that Erica, Maggie and Macy are not great singers but I like Galactic with gritty male lead singers ...who can also rap like they have had since the beginning. I really enjoyed Corey's singing and trombone solo's...awesome! Hope Cyril is back in front next month when I see them again!

Missed the opening act. Soulive was awesome, as always. No shady horns or guest vox. Galactic had Cerill Nevill, erica hall and Trombone Shorty sit in. Great night of music. Fillmore is far from my favorite Denver live music venue. Main floor is flat and crowded, but the sound quality is great. On the elevated sides, the lows get muddy and reverberate. Pick your poison. Stage right "secret" bathrooms are rarely crowded, however and that back bar doesn't have a line.

The first act from Houston was amazing that came on before Soulive. They played maybe 3-4 songs and left the stage. Soulive was boring after the 3-4th song however they droned on for another 10-15 songs. They all sounded the same. Galactic is amazing but did not even come on until after 11:00 PM. Being from out of town, this is rough on us. If the first band played from 8-9 and Galactic play from 9-11 or 11:30, it would have been a great show. Forget Soulive!

Have seen Galactic many times before. Show was ok but the fact that with 2 opening bands the Galactic set didn't start until 11:15 was very late. I noticed many in attendance leaving after 4-5 songs of their set. My wife and I were in the venue for over 3 hours before the main act ever took the stage and the show didn't get out until after 1:15 AM. I was not disappointed, and to the contrary their performance reinforced what a talented group of musicians this really is. I'm amazed at how many people are not familiar with this group, and hope they get the recognition they deserve. Additionally, Corey Glover was absolutely incredible sitting in as the vocalist for the evening, and both Steel Pulse and the Soul Rebels Brass Band turned in flawless sets warming up for Galactic. And the term "warming up" doesn't do justice to these groups, as just seeing either of these groups perform on their own for the evening would have been terrific.

Galactic rarely disappoints, but they were truly in great form on Saturday night. From start to finish, a high energy show. We were dancing our asses off the entire time, as was everyone around us on the packed floor. Great contribution from guests Corey Henry, Corey Glover and the Soul Rebels Brass Band.

Wow, What a show. Everyone was great, but the highlight was an amazing, long set by Shorty (Mr. Andrews). He really brought my NOLA home to Fort Lauderdale, and the crowd ate it up!! Awesome show and a real bargain for the festival, length night of music!

this show was awful. the cavernous hall dwarfed the band . . . terrible acoustics . . . . and all the character of a concrete block with a huge police presence . . . not too warm and friendly. Love Galactic but this wasn't worth the money by any stretch of the imagination.

With musicians of this calibre, its hard to go wrong. That said, leave it up to Superfly to do the bare minimum for the fans. The show started way too early for a Jazz Fest after dark - funky METERS on at 8? We caught the last 30 minutes of their set after rushing to get there from Fest. Heard many complaints from people who missed it entirely. Then the 'superjam' that was so overly hyped was actually 2 songs and lasted 15 minutes. My partner missed the whole thing just waiting to get a drink, not realizing it would be dwarfed. For a ticket price at that level, being billed as a Jazz Fest after party - We expected a lot better and left disappointed, even though the music was great.

Missed Funky meters altogether because they started at 8:30! Way too early for this type of music. Most of these types of musical shows don't start till 10;30 soonest. Venue sucked for dancing. This is a sit down venue but this is DANCE MUSIC! Tipitinas, Howling Wolfe, Rock and Bowl, even House of Blues would've been way better. Shame on you!

Amazing set from a mainstay of the New Orleans music scene. Just steps from the birthplace of Jazz in Congo Square, the Mahalia Jackson theater made the show even more special. If you are ever down in the Big Easy, Galactic is a must and the Mahalia Jackson theater is a jewel.

Once again Galactic blows my mind, impresses me with new material, and keeps their ever-evolving sound of good ol New Orleans funk blazing through the whole evening! Cyril Neville sounded great and really helped mix up some of the funk,. Corey from Rebirth Brass Band added that extra horn element to Galactic's grooves that really help bring it all together, and give you that full, brilliant New Orleans sound! Whoooooooo Galactic brought the heat! Stellar playing from the boys as usual.

Excellent set, featuring Cyrille Neville. Neville is true New Orleans royalty. Every bootie in the houses was shakin' to Stanton Moore's funky beat. They should come out to the west coast more often.

I went to this concert with reservations. I had never heard their music before and everyone kept telling me Galactic is fantastic. So i went in with low expectations and they ended exceeding those expectations and actually turned me into a fan. I am glad my buddy invited me to go.
