At first I was disappointed when I saw a new female vocalist replacing Grace Slick; but after the first song I was on board! The new singer is amazing and it is super cool that she is keeping Grace's legacy going by performing all the great songs this band (or these two bands) has recorded over the years. Do not miss this band if they come to your town. We need that 60's attitude more than ever these days.

I don't see how these bands can use the original band name when there are no original members. Both Starship and Quicksilver had the same band members!. country Joe should have hung up his guitar after Woodstock. Not at all what I expected for the ticket price.

It was really great to see the "old" rockers on stage. And some of the fill-ins, like Kathy Richardson, were really terrific. The music was rockin' - but the overall feel of the program was "yeah, we're disorganized, but who cares." Really sad. The idea to project footage from Woodstock on the back wall was brilliant...but it wasn't lined up correctly. The picture was at the bottom of the back wall and covered by drum sets and amps. We could hardly see anything. It was like that all night - no one seemed to want to fix it. Then what was projected seemed to be just a trailer of some sort, so the same footage kept repeating. Not cool. There was so much that could have been done with that - like having footage of Canned Heat projected while the current band was on stage, etc. Having Country Joe out front while band set-ups changed was a good idea, but again, the disorganization of that was distracting. Then the set itself had no thought put into it. Music stands were set around in front of keyboards so while Tom Constanten was playing, we couldn't see him. Overall feel - good sound but visually disappointing.

Loved the concert. I loved that it was informal and went on for hours. Well worth the money. Canned heat rocked, big brrother and the holding co were great. Their Janis replacement was unbelievable. I was a little dissapointed with jefferson starship because there so many good songs they could have played but didn't. Overrall I loved it . would do again in a heartbeat.

Can you imagin seeing the same bands that made history at Woodstock in 69 playing in 2009! Canned Heat was great, the first band I've ever seen with 2 drum sets playing at the same time, the sound was great! BIG BROTHER AND THE HOLDING COMPANY ROCKED!! Their singer( Sonya I believe) sounds almost just like Janis Joplin, she brought CHILL bumps to my skin and tears to my eyes , with her voice. Janis was with us in spirt last night. Quicksilver had alittle sound issues, but I can finially put a face to their songs over the years. Jefferson Starship also had a young lady singer who did them proud AND CAN ROCK!! She was incredible. COUNTRY JOE I still remembered the words to your " F- - k" song. You still sound good man. What memories and good times we had back then. Peace, Barbara

isn t descriptive enough for everyone involved...Country Joe as the performer/emcee between acts, which were Canned Heat (Great); Big Brother & the Holding Company (who included an amazing Janis Joplin-impressionist whose last song still, literally, makes my throat hurt); AND there aren t words-aren't-enough Jefferson Starship, who incredibly performed the Woodstock set of Jefferson Airplane with their singer, Cathy Richardson, who was simply outstanding. It was an unforgettable night...

I really enjoyed the music. I was disappointed at the turnout. There were many empty seats. The concert was excellant and deserved a full house. The crowd that was there really got into the music. Canned Heat rocked! Cathy Richardson was very enjoyable singing with Jefferson Starship. Sophia Ramos was awesome singing the Janis Joplin tunes with Big Brother and the Holding Company. There was a projection behind the bands of the trailer for the 40th anniversary Director's cut of the movie which looped throughout the show. It would've been nice to see something besides that video... over and over for 4 hours. As I said earlier, the music rocked. If there had been more production tying it to the original event it might've been awesome.

Like my Grandfather's Ax, which had the handle replaced 6 times and the head replaced 3 times, there are no original members of this band. Nothing about them is Jefferson Starship. There are tribute bands that come closer to the original. The show started at 9 PM with a warm-up band taking up an hour, so the actual headliner started well after 10 PM. The vocals were mediocre and although the musicians were decent, they didn't feel like a band, just several musicians on the same stage. There was no presence to their music or their performance. The original band would be very saddened by this act. Aura is a nice facility, in fact it is beautiful inside, but it is not well run, the ushers did not know how to get people to their seats, which were already occupied by squatters who were apparently expecting to be treated as GA customers. People were clustered and hovering all around our seats like we were in a mosh pit. The venue, as are most these days, was completely overwhelmed by the sound system, so loud that I could barely make out the music and voices with earplugs and fingers in my ears, nothing but distortion and echo. A small venue like this needs a sound man that is not totally deaf in both ears. I have seen many tribute bands this year, but this band was not among the top half. Very disappointing!

This concert was phenomenal! It started off with Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad. He is like 68 years old but had the energy and moves of a 30 year old. His voice is still as strong as it was in the 70's. There were original members of Jefferson Starship. That was drummer Danny Baldwin and David Freiberg. David is 79 years old! Talk about dedication! Cathy Richardson was incredible. Grace would be proud. The crowd was mostly rockers from approx age 50 to 70. I wanted to quit my job and become a groupie! It was a nice new venue. In what used to be the Asylum. The security was very helpful and they seemed very happy to help. The Aura had seating to accommodate the older crowd. I sat next to a disabled person and she said the place was very accessible. All in all, it was fabulous!

Okay, so there s only one member of the original Jefferson Starship but this group remains true to the original arrangements. Very talented group of musicians. Long list of great old tunes delivered with lots of energy.
Excellent double show. Did not know if Mark Farner was doing his own opening gig or maybe performing with JS, maybe doing some of the late great Paul Kantner tunes... Mark's separate act was terrific. JS energized and put on a great show as always. We typically see them two or three times/yr. Cathy was superb and it was super cool when she mentioned me to the audience as her friend wearing my typical funky clothes; then, during White Rabbit, came over and pointed at me re: the mushrooms.
A lot of Bang for your buck, which goes to a very good cause. Music was awesome and a lot of it. The bands were great and Jefferson Starship was surprisingly good and sounded every bit the way they do on record. I would definitely go again.
It's always good to support a Wounded Warriors benefit concert, and I encourage people to do so. But as far as the concert itself, I was looking forward mostly to Jefferson Starship. They are the only band featured in the picture for this show. So I was under the impression that it was just Jefferson Starship playing with maybe one opening band. The Jefferson Starship meet & greet was at 5pm, and the concert start time was scheduled for 6pm, so I figured the concert would be over at about 8pm or 9pm and I could be out of there. However, upon arrival I found out that there would be four bands performing! I hadn't even heard of the other bands, and wasn't very interested. There were no signs pointing out where the meet & greet was at 5pm.I had to ask around to find out. Jefferson Starship members were generally nice but very reserved. One of them didn't seem to want to stand next to me for the picture. After the brief meet & greet, one of the random bands started playing. After they played for a while, I asked an arena staff member what the band order was for this concert. She said she had no idea. So I just left early before Jefferson Starship even took the stage. I bought a Wounded Warriors shirt before I left to show my support for them.
I love concerts at Pier Six. This was for a great cause and I will be attending next year and inviting all my friends. The music was fabulous. First time hearing Midnite Run. They were awesome, down to earth and friendly as well. Dave DeMarco is a beast on the bass. Crack the Sky and Jefferson Starship rocked the place. Had an awesome time. Was lucky enough to be 4th row center !! Rock on !
This was my second time attending the Wounded Warriors concert at Pier Six. I really enjoy going to Pier Six because it is such an intimate facility in which to see a concert. This show was no different except for the headliner. I didn't care for Jefferson Starship. Dave DeMarco Band was fun but Crack The Sky stole the show!!! Frankly, I was surprised that Crack The Sky wasn't the headliner since they own Baltimore. I look forward to attending the next Wounded Warriors concert at Pier Six next year as long as Crack The Sky is part of the bill.
Jefferson Starship should have opened for Crack the Sky instead of the other way around. By the time Starship took the stage, it was a letdown. Crack is so good that the audience was screaming and on their feet. When Starship came on, it was a yawner! Starship's vocalist is good, though with a powerful voice that does Grace Slick justice. Dave DeMarco Band was good, as always - they play a great selection of cover songs and their guitar player is awesome. There was never a long line anywhere - bathrooms or concessions/drinks.
Midnight Run and Dave Demarco Band were excellent and music was great! Crack The Sky, as always, stole the show. They are the best and always rock to the max !!! Jefferson Starship started slowly and lost some of the crowd. The second half of he concert was vintage music and White Rabbit saved it for them. They need to do more of their hits and less unfamiliar material. We almost left half way thru their set, like a lot of people. The vocals were unbelievable and strong, but the music sometimes was weak and not having a bass player was strange. Overall disappointed that the crowd size was so small. I thought it would be packed as Crack The Sky always draws a big crowd.
This group needs to focus on music that the fans want to hear.. this group has at least a dozen hits and only sang 5 out of an 1 1/2 hrs. At which those songs were off key.. my only non-regret is my money went to a good cause. The other 3 bands .. Crack the Sky, Midnite Run and Dave Demarco were also mediocre.
All of the music was absolutely fantastic. Most of all it was for a great cause and awesome to see so many vets in the audience. Will definitely be going to the next one.
They were amazing! Wasn't sure about not have Grace, but the new singer has a very similar voice and tone - not disappointed at all. They even did a "meet & greet" after the show!
We saw Jefferson Starship at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City and they were spot on! A really great show with lots of energy and fantastic sounds. They played some newer stuff, but old favorites brought the audience to its feet, joining in the singing and clapping in rhythm. They also greeted everyone afterwards, chatting and signing pictures of the band. May go see them again in Baltimore in the next few weeks!!
Excellent show! Some equipment problems, but they handled it professionally. They were having just as much fun as the crowd.

The latest lineup of the #JeffersonStarship Did not disappoint ! The show was full of energy, a satisfying set list, and as usual, excellent musicianship. I did miss Marty Balin's voice on " Miracles ", but other than that, it was a great time. The band played on, rarely taking breaks between songs. The only disappointment was that there was no encore. The lead singers were amazing, their voices were pitch perfect. However, the sound level was way over the top for such a small theater. 75% of the audience were people over 50 years old, and 25% of them left as soon as the music started. You could feel the bass pounding in your chest. I wish someone could have told them to tone it down just a bit. Also, there were no stage theatrics, just the singers & their instruments. Otherwise, it was a great concert with all the favorite old songs.

I once saw Woodstock and Fillmore East with Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Marty Balin, Jorma Kaukonen,Jack Cassidy,Spencer Dryden... All different at this point. Celebrate Paul Kantner....I expected surprise guests....Grace Slicjk ? Jorma,Jack ? Marty ? ok no guests.. Show could have had intermission, with another hour of playing..No Lather..No 3/5 s mile. No Plastic Fantastic Lover......Mostly cause a year ago Paul Kantner had heartattack. And show was short. But this show was short. Not even full 2 hours...Like a year ago. Does BB King Club cut shows Short ?

First, although the first band was musically good, we had never heard of them(I've worked in the retail music industry for many years), weren't familiar with the music, and was glad when their set was over. Quicksilver was good, and would have been better if they were the opening act, followed by the Starship! Finally, after the two bands, came the Jefferson Starship, which would have been more appreciated if there wasn't so much before them! The lead singer, Kathy Richards, did sound a great deal like Grace Slick, and the fellow from Quicksilver did sound a lot like Marty Balin, which made the the band sound a good deal like the Jefferson Airplane. We appreciated hearing most of the Airplanes songs being performed. I believe the only one missing was Plastic Fantastic, and Lather. But again, by the time they came on we were tired from the first two bands.. Yeah, too much of a good thing.

I had seen this exact same lineup one year ago at an outdoor festival and they were awesome. This was a no brainer at this casino, but I had my doubts on GA. It turns out that it was not even sold out. They still put on a great show, but I could hardly understand Dave Freiberg (mike problems?). Sorry, but when the only founding member left is almost 77 and better known as a member of the Quicksilver Messenger Service, it's time to do the right thing and retire the name. All musicians are very talented but I'm afraid it was a highly priced cover band. Best of luck to all band members in their future careers.

I was with a total of four people. The music was below par. With the age and abilities of two of the performers it was obvious that maybe it is time to retire. The lead singer was very average. The sound couldn't have been worse. Paul sat removed from group and at one point stumbled off stage. I'm not sure if he even contributed to the music. Cathy's mic was lower than everyone else. She chewed gum the entire time and her voice is no comparison to Grace, not that any other's ever could be. No charm, no connection to the crowd or the other musicians. The young lead guitarist was off in his own realm doing his own thing playing the notes in a modern way that didn't seem to fit the tradition. David was trying hard but nothing ever seemed to come together. If resting on laurels was a competitive event they might have won. I left after the 5th song, very disappointed. I guess I expected too much, having listened to Starship and Airplane for the past 45 years. They just need to get it together and behave like professional musicians who play classic rock with heart and soul.

I was very disappointed. This event was billed as celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jefferson Airplane so I was expecting Jeff Air songs all night. They played only 4 Jeff Air songs. 5 if you include the horrendous rendition of "Embryonic Journey" by their guitarist. I wanted to throw eggs. I took my wife to this show for her birthday and we traveled 80 miles to see the show. I don't know if the false advertising can be blamed on Kantner et al or BB Kings, but shame shame shame.

First of all, I had just seen the starship two nights before at sugarloaf pac, where they put on a flawless show at a beautiful friendly venue. Five stars The show at bb kings was a different story. The band was obviously tired. Paul Kantner wasn't himself. His voice was off. He took a break and walked slowly and exhaustedly back to the stage. He missed the first song of the encore. He looked like he needed medical attention. He is in the middle of a full schedule at age72. They played much too loudly. The combination of vocals and guitars was frequently distorted. And I was sitting right near the mixing board. Go figure. Much of the great harmony between Cathy and David was lost, and it is the most musically impressive part of the show. They played a standard set list, with all the hits (except wooden ships). One great moment was when Paul played some little ditty solo. Vintage and really cool.

Great show - wish it went on all night. Starship was the best I've seen them since Cental Park in the 70's.

I last saw the Jefferson Starship (then the Airplane) in 1970 -- twice. I was convinced by a friend to see this incarnation of the band, and despite my generally bad impression of "geezer rock" bands, on his recommendation I went. I was overwhelmed. I was transported back to my youth. I cried. I screamed. They are awesome. The new singer, Cathy Richardson, I swear to God is better than Grace. And David Freiberg, from Quicksilver Messenger Service, is an awesome replacement for Marty Balin. I hope I can sing like him when I'm 76. Hell, I wish I could have sung like him when I was 20. Jude Gold is an awesome guitarist. His version of Embryonic Journey is not to be missed. Anyone who was there should not miss this group. They could re-kindle the Revolution; maybe this time we'll win.

The show had some great songs and some just okay songs. Cathy Richardson the female singer was good and the show could have used more Grace Slick songs in the mix. Jane is such a great rock song that it could have really rocked the house but it just didn't have the magic. Overall the show was enjoyable.

Most folks I had asked to go to the concert did not want to go due to the original band members weren't all there. Well, they surely missed out because the new band members were absolutely fantastic. Cathy Richardson was Cathy but she sang the original songs great. She even acted and got into the music and audience. David Freiberg was awesome. For 75 he sang like he was in his 20's. Paul of course was also great. A shout out to the lead guitarist, JUDE GOLD who blew me away with his originality and his knowledge of the original songs. Everyone looked like they truly enjoyed making the music that made me and the audience really rock and enjoy. Thanks guys!!

The venue was an amazing place. Small, decent acoustics with no hassle and close to the NY/NJ Metro area. This was the best venue to see a band in many years. The crowd was terrific so you know how that goes. It encourages the band to give it their all and a great time was had by all. It's been a long time since I enjoyed listening to music because life has gotten in the way. I almost forgot how much I love seeing the artists perform and Jefferson Starship with their new talent is as good as they ever have been. Paul Kanter keeps trucking along and we appreciate him, his style and his music.

I don't know of a person alive, who when they think of Jefferson anything, doesn't think of Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane album Surrealistic Pillow. At least that is what I always thought, that is until I saw Starship at Sugarloaf Performing Arts Center. Paul Kantner and David Freiberg were excellent, the whole band was excellent, Jude Gold's version of Embryonic Journey was outstanding. But, Cathy Richardson was out of this world. I am sure Grace Slick is extremely proud of Cathy taking over her role in Starship, because she's got the pipes, the range, the power, the CHOPS! What a powerhouse! I missed Woodstock '69 and never got to see the Airplane in concert. But I am satisfied, to an extent, now that I have seen the current Starship in action. That is, until the next time they are are near!

Great Concert! With only Paul Kantner left from the original group, I wasn't sure what to expect. Cathy Richardson really surprised me with her powerful vocals! If you closed your eyes during songs like "Wooden Ships" and "White Rabbit", you can still hear Grace Slick. David Freiberg did a good job on the vocals formerly done by Mickey Thomas. I loved his rendition of "Fresh Air", while "Jane" was a little bit of a disappointment for me. Kantner, while getting up there in years, still has amazing guitar skills! All in all, I had a great time and I would see them again!

The show was great. They played all their favorites. I still miss Grace, but the female singer (sorry I forgot her name, getting old) was wonderful. Wonderful night especially for the price.

The concert overall was pretty good. Keep in mind not all the original members are with the band. The current lead singer Cathy Richardson did a pretty good job of filling in on the old Grace Slick classic songs. Seeing concerts at the South Shore Room in SLT is a really good place it is a small venue and I love the intimate setting. If you are going to see Starship keep am open mind because they only have two of the original members it wont be like seeing them back in the 70's and 80's. But if you want to reminisce go see them as you will get to hear the original songs. I do wish they had played more of their hits. Like We built this City and nothing gonna Stop us now.

I took my wife for Valentine's day and we are both in our mid 50's and we loved the show , it was remarkable given Jefferson Starship ( Airplane ) as we once knew them, their 50 year history was remarkable. The energy of the band has not skipped a beat. I would recommend young and old , go see this show, you will not be disappointed. Paul was awesome as was the rest of the band, especially the guitarist. There was not one fight and the crowd was mellow and enjoying themselves. Rock and Roll lives on... P.S. - If you can send this msg. over to Paul, that would be great.

The amps on the instruments were so loud that we could barely hear the vocals. There was no way to hear any words. We figured out what song they were playing by the guitar chords. It's a shame that we came to hear songs with lyrics and instead, only heard instrumental versions of them. During intermission, the sound engineer told us that Paul Kantner was the one who set the amps so loud and did not want them to be changed. What was Kantner thinking??

I'm 60 YO, and I've seen Hendrix at the Garden in 1969, and Led Zep at Nassau Coliseum in 1973. The Airplane was my favorite group ever, though. And I never got to see them, because they always stuck around San Francisco. About 10 years ago, I saw a reconstituted Airplane in Philadelphia. It was good, not great. Then about 5 years ago, I saw Mart Balin at a small cafe called The Turning Point. Slick Aguilar accompanied him. It was insane. He looked great, and sounded even better. This show at The Paramount though defied expectations. The band was made of of Aguilar, David Freiberg, a guitarist last name Gold, a drummer who was great, and a first rate keyboard player. The singer was Richardson, who played Janis in "Love Janis". And then there was Paul Kantner. It literally brought tears to my eyes to be seeing one of Rocks truly great legends live. The band was beyond tight. Freiberg, a founding member of "Quicksilver", sounded better than ever. For those unfamiliar with Aguilar, he is without a doubt one of the world's great guitarists. And Mr. Gold did a version of "Embryonic Journey", where, if you closed your eyes, you would have thought Jorma was in the house. The harmonies, the musicianship, the set list were all beyond belief. The Paramount has some of the best acoustics in the Tri-State area. This was probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. I've run out of superlatives. All I can say is, if they ever come around again, do yourself a favor and RUN to catch this show.

The show was OK but I have seen Starship.Airplane many times and this version really does not sound like Starship. THe lead singer is good but has none of Graces sound down. THe show need either Diane Mangano or Marty Balin in it
