This is our event at the winery and loved it. It was a very hot day, but you could go in and buy chilled bottles of wine. There was wine tasting and great food. Will do this again next year

I went thinking I wanted to hear Herb Alpert and not his wife, Lani Hall. However, she was the best part of the show! She has an incredible voice and clear diction. The drums were too loud. (I am a drummer and thought I would never complain about that! Somebody else in the audience even told Herb the bass drum was too loud.) I had hoped Herb would have played one of his old hits. But he did not. His new music is very relaxing and pleasant.

A little disappointed Mr. Albert didn't play more of his enchanting songs from the past. His wife can really sing and was entertaining along with his band. I brought my mom who has waited at least 38 years to see Herb Albert and she really wanted to hear his big hits. All in all a great evening. Thanks for coming back to Newport News.

Delightful performance by Herb Alpert who played his trumpet like an angel. Enjoyed the very tender moment he and his wife Lani Hall shared during the show. Lani Hall had a slow start with some song which were too large for her voice. However, toward the end of the performance she rallied with enchanting version of "Black Magic". Overall any opportunity to see the Legendary Herb Alpert is worth it!

Herb Albert plays the trumpet exceedingly well and Lani Hall is a very good singer. However, after saying that I was disappointed that he did not play any of the songs that made him so famous. All the songs were from their new jazz album which was not mentioned in the advertisement. If he had only played a few of the songs from 40 years ago, it would have been a perfect performance.

I love Herb Albert and was anxious to see the show. I've never heard Lani Hall before and very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed her performance. The whole ensemble was good. Although I am a fan of the T. Brass and Pop music era, my son and I really enjoyed the informal setting and the music that has a latino influence. I would definitely recommend this show to all Albert fans.

I was looking forward to more comtemporary selections from the 1990's. I know his wife shared the concert with him, but she seem to control the selections and performed more songs than needed. When he asked the audience what did they want to hear, his wife would change it to meet her needs. They even had to talk about it. I was truly disappointed because we haven't seen Herb in so long. He wife also sang in Brazlian and I didn't know what she was saying. She seems very controlling and I was ready to leave. I hope he changes his tours in the future and be more Herb Albert we wanted to see him Blow that Horn. I wanted to hear North on South Street and I wanted Herb Albert to blow that Horn and he didnt,One lady called out "PLAY RISE" I called out ROTATION. We got nothing new. I was not impressed with his Wife's singing. Sorry folks.

Very informal and warm performance. Lani Hall was great and of course Herb Alpert was wonderful! He was able to make a whole auditorium full of people feel like we were in a small club and jammin'. His three musicians are terrific. All in all a great evening!

A fine Jazz performance from seasoned professionals. They are accompanied by just a piano, bass, and drums. Playing mostly a combination of Jazz standards and Bossa Nova numbers, their improvisation provides a fresh interpretation of familiar material. Lani Hall is still a stellar Jazz vocalist with technique on par with anyone performing today. Herb is melodic and wonderfully understated. The ensemble is tight and has obviously been playing together for years. On the downside, most of their songs have a similar laid-back vibe. They could use a few raucous songs to keep it exciting and engaging. A lead guitarist would help in that area. And I may be bias, but Bossa Nova without a saxophone leaves me wanting. Don't come expecting to hear The Lonely Bull or Tijuana Taxi. But if you love Jazz, you'll leave satisfied.

I have been a supporter of Herb Alpert and Lani Hall since the late sixties. Herb's playing and Lani's voice is as strong as ever. The give and take between Herb, Lani and the trio was awesome. You could tell that all the artists were having fun. Jazz is primarily a conversation and there was plently of creative dialogue taking place last night. The painted backdrop by Herb added to the warmth and vibrance of the musical experience.

As life long fans of HA & the TB, my husband, parents and I were supremely disappointed in the concert. With the focus being on Lani, who is quite talented, and not on Herb's traditional music, we felt robbed. We understand an artist's desire to try new songs and expected a few, but for not a single 'traditional' HA song to be played blindsided us. To have paid that much money for 4th row seats, we could have stayed home with the 'smooth jazz' music channel on and paid for cable for months. If they had just billed it as "Lani Hall songs with Herb playing backup brass" we would have understood and saved ourselves the aggravation of the $6 wine, chilly theater, and tunnel traffic.

My wife and I just attended the Herb Alpert/Lani Hall concert. We sat in the second row and must say, as a musician, it was terrific. The music was tight, laid back, and sophisticated. Mixed in was there own down to earth solid marriage of 36 years. This concert is a must see for old and young, married and single. Even your kids should seethem. Truly nice people and great musicians. The interaction with the audience was wonderful. A night to be remembered. Many Thanks Herb and Lani!

Nearly a last minute decision to attend the concert and wow, am I glad we went! An amazing historic venue and the perfect intimate setting for two hours of awesome music! While most of us have gotten older, neither Lani nor Herb showed any signs of it. She sings and moves as she did in the 70's and Herb's trumpet skills are just as fantastic as they were when he started. Enthusiastic standing ovations were evidence of just how great they still sound! The pianist, bass player and especially the drummer were incredibly talented. Young or old, if you have the opportunity to go... DO! You'll love it!

If you've been a fan of Herb Alpert or Brasil 66's music this is the concert for you. I must admit I didn't know what to expect as Herb is getting on in years. He played trumpet for 3/4 of the concert playing all the greats that you remember from the Tijuana Brass and his solo career. The guy can still play very well! Lani performed Brasil 66 hits with great warmth and skill. This is one of the best concerts I've been to. The 3 piece ensemble that backed them up were consummate performers. The whole group was very tight and balance and volume were perfect. If they get to your area make sure you go. You won't regret it.

It was a true dream come true to see them both live and in person at The Birchmere. I have been a fan of theirs since I was a child, practically. They are such endearing and down to earth people. I saw Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass when I was 12-years-old at the Baltimore Civic Center. I was thrilled to find out that he and his wife were going to perform at the Birchmere! Herb Alpert sounds as wonderful as he did when I saw him in 1967 and Lani Hall's voice is a strong and clear as it was when she was the lead singer for Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66. The music brought back such wonderful memories! My dad was the one who took me to see my very first concert which happened to be Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. The only thing that would have made that night better would have been having my dad be there with me at the concert!

Show was very well put together. They were on the stage for 2 hours (no intermission) and played most of the time. Great videos and multimedia addition. Sang many of his old songs ibut often in a medley and sang some great cover songs from Brazil 66, Antonio Carlos Jobim as well as the Beatles. His wife has a beautiful voice and the rest of the band is first class. Well worth the ticket.

Amazing show! Listening to Herb Alpert as a child on my parent s turntable...those iconic melodies have veen permanently recorded in my mind. Whipped Cream and Other Delights provided hours of entertainment and the cover was about the raciest thing I had ever seen! Herb has a professiosl, talented group..but honestly from the first note, it wa all about Herb! The creative display of art and video during the music was very effective. It was our 2nd time seeing Herb Alpert and Lani Hall. The 1st time was in an intimate setting. This time, on a much larger stage, they had wonderful projections behind the band. Photos of Herb Alpert's paintings and photos and videos of their history - albums covers, old band photos, photos of him and Lani, etc. It added a lot to the show. The music was great - a combination of his and Lani's hits. A lot of her music was with "Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66" and has a Brazilian flavor. They've been married for many years and their affection for each other is evident. Also, the band is excellent. I'm a fan of Bill Cantos, the pianist, who has a few CDs of his own. Herb Alpert, at 83, still looks and sound good.

The venue was much improved over last year but I'm not sure Herb Alpert should have been the final act. David Sanborn was much better and much more upbeat. People wanted to dance but ending with Herb Alpert was pleasant but boring. On another note, with the seemingly hot summer days over the years of the jazz festival, I suggest to move the start to 4pm. It's a killer sitting in direct sun for over 5 hrs.

I tried to check for the time the venue's ended it didn't say on either website, Ste Michelle or Ticketmaster. I found out when I got there it was about 7 hours. It was a disappointment with Herb Albert I thought he was going to play more of his hits. They also didn't have an announcer so I didn't know who was coming up next or when it ended kind of bizarre.

This was my first visit to the venue, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. However this was a VERY hot day for an outdoor, midday concert and no shade! Word to the wise, bring your own shade, since it was my first visit I wasn't prepared and didn't want to risk bringing anything extra like an umbrella if it wasn't allowed. So I found out YES they are ok, next time for sure:) The jazz music was so relaxing, the chilled wine was so refreshing and all the pricing was reasonable, can't wait to go back.

As with all shows at CSM this was a great venue with fun for all...until the last act (Lani Hall and Herb Alpert). They took a great jazz show and ruined it. Herb proceeded to talk between each show about his memories and Lani was just awful. We (along with many others) left the show early.

From the opening notes of Bittersweet Samba to the Tijuana Brass and Brasil '66 medleys, you can tell they simply enjoyed being on stage together. Supported skillfully by great talents at bass, piano and drums, they wove in many covers of pop and jazz standards. Herb filled the evening with many stories from his A&M Records and TJB days. They closed the night with an encore covering six songs from Antonio Carlos Jobim. They covered more than 30 songs during the concert.

I have waited all my life to see Herb Alpert perform; doubled the pleasure and got to see Lani Hall as well. I missed their performance in Rochester in May last year when I was home on vacation; heard they were coming to Florida and I bought my tickets right away. I wasn't at all disappointed. The theatre was beautiful, seats...5 rows back center and the music, accoustics and performance was just wonderful. The piano, guitar and drum musicians were top of the class. Herb was wonderful and Lani...beautiful, beautiful voice, a wonderful performer in herself; have the new CD, read Lani's book and listen to them both and know all their music. Thank you God for giving the gifts you have given to these two, the love and the fact that they give back so much. Awesome!!!

Herbs performance was fabulous. I wanted more!!! Lani Hall was wonderful as well. What a voice! However, seating was pretty compact. Late arrivals were a reminder of how small the seating areas were. They distracted from the show because we had to actually stand and walk to the aisle for people to get to their seats. This went on with different aisles in front of us as well, throughout the show. So, we saw a lot of bodies and heads where we would have preferred to see more of Mr. Alpert. Standing in lobby was also a bit of a struggle because the room got quite crowded before anyone was allowed in theater. I don't remember the seating being like this before but it may explain why I haven't been to shows for years. All in all loved the show. Love the beautiful old theater that I first visited in the late 60's. Just need a little more space.

Herb Alpert was in to playing music with a melody and he and the three other musicians did just that. Each one was a great musician in their own right and put them together and you've got a great show. Now add Lani Hall who was once the lead singer for Sergio Mendes and you have an even greater show.

Overall excellent show. However almost too much Herb Albert. Time should split equally between the two. Seems like the show was about him with Lani Hall second. Also when she sang the background pianist, gutarist, and drummer almost drowned her out. Also how about a big screen showing them proforming from the 60's.
