Jesse Cook

Jesse Cook

Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook is one contemporary flamenco's most beloved acts, combining unparalleled guitar work with elements of world music and jazz on his elegant compositions. Possessing a deep, first-hand knowledge of gypsy musical traditions, Cook has earned himself opening slots for luminaries including B.B. King and Ray Charles, but it's his recent solo shows that have really turned heads.

We have attended many wonderful performances by 60 s musical artists. Jesse Cook was highly recommended by our close friends whom joined us for dinner and this concert. Cook is very talented and supported by his four piece group. If you get the opportunity...take it and open your mind to his wonderful musical style. Widely considered one of the most influential figures in nuevo flamenco music, he incorporates elements of flamenco rumba, jazz and many forms of world music into his work.

I saw this concert on Pandora first, and rushed to find a ticket. We first saw Jesse Cook at the Chateau St. Michelle concert series a few years ago, and we have several albums. The venue was perfect, the concert was great, and the energy was fantastic. So glad to have him back on tour!

Jesse is one of the best guitarist on the the planet. He did an amazing solo that once again proved his virtuosity. And a fabulous entertainer. He had everybody in the theater on their feet and rumba dancing by the end. Very intimate with the audience. Talks to the audience and answers questions. Great mix of new and greatest hits. The new stuff he played will become the next greatest hits. Three encores; do not miss Jesse "unplugged". Worth every penny.

I've seen Jesse Cook four times now around Seattle and British Columbia but by far my favorite concert venue around the NW is the Triple Door in Seattle. Small, intimate, and highly classy, the Triple Door makes an event of any artist privileged enough to play there. The only thing that could top the venue itself is seeing one of my favorite artists Jesse Cook play in it. His new songs which he debuted there sounded amazing and were a hit with everyone, despite not having heard them before. And his standards were great as usual, especially with Chris Church back in the five-man line-up once again (he was missing for last year's show). But the icing on the cake was the a cappella version of "Fall at Your Feet" with Chris on the lead vocals. It totally silenced everyone in the crowd and left us wanting for more. Thanks for coming again Jesse!

Jesse and band sound more like a latin jazz orchestra than just a 5 piece group. They are so tight, and get the audience involved with clapping, dancing. Simply amazing!

This group is incredibly talented with a wonderfully exotic sound. Sexy music at it's best! We were fortunate to sit next to the stage to really appreciate the skill Jesse and the other members of the group have with the variety of instruments they play. Clearly professional and in love with what they do, just a phenomenal performance. Relaxed, confident, engaging and fun. Don't miss him!

We have all Jesse Cook's albums, even the new one that came out 3 days prior to the concert. We can (and do) listen to him all day - seeing him live was the perfect frosting on a delectable cake of recorded music. The band played a set of new music and old, taking us on a virtual music journey through Columbia, Cuba, North Africa, Persia, and back to South America. Yummy, Delicious - music filled our hearts and spirits and gave us a world tour too!

Jesse Cook's music is always amazing- both exciting and relaxing. It was great to hear music so new it didn't even have a name. And to attend in that location (The Studiio Theatre) made it even more special - an intimate, friendly set, like being in a large livingroom. My least favorite part of the evening was all the camera flashes going off thoughout the concert. How Rude!!

The show in the historic Lincoln Theater in Columbus, Ohio was a great show. The individual musicians moved around so there was different configuration of who was playing with whom, which made the show move pretty quickly. And even though most of the show had the entire band playing, the word music feel of their music kept everyone's attention. Their 3 encores were really good, once being an acoustic song, meaning their instruments and voices weren't amplified. Something they could do in a small theater and still have everyone hear them. Their final encore song, called "Lullaby" soothed everyone and prepared us for the end of the show. We had a great time.

We're a huge fan of Jesse Cook. We've seen his concert a few times and really, I (we) don't think we'll ever tire of it. His concerts are always refreshing. However, and not sure if we're just reaching the point of Jesse Cook-fatigue, or maybe he needs to refresh his concert/s a bit more. His dialogue is way overused, and this time around we can almost mimic his lines way before he utters them. He desperately needs a new format and/or lines. More importantly, this night is the first time I've seen him 'disconnected' with the audience as though he'd rather be somewhere else than be playing the guitar. He wasn't as inspired to share his music. He wasn't as intimate and involved as he normally is in his concerts. He seem to had just gone through the motion.

Jesse Cook's guitar mastery always amazes me and my wife, and this concert at the Saban Theatre continued that trend. The new songs impressed us--including the sad ones--and the familiar tunes made us smile, clap and tap our feet. Near the end of the show, the much-expected "rumba party" broke out, energizing the crowd and making the old building rock. For anyone who's never seen Jesse Cook and his remarkably talented backup group--led by Chris Church--in action, it's time for you to attend one of their concerts.

This was my second time seeing Jesse at the Saban Theater, which is a great venue for its size and acoustics. He still has the "It" factor and is vibrant, alive and entertaining as usual... and especially as compared to one of my previous great favorites, Ottmar Liebert, who I saw at the same venue a few months ago; they play similar music. Ottmar was slow, lethargic and very repetitive in his music these days. Jesse, on the other hand, appears to be gaining strength and does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Yes, he is a must see! F. Reeves

Have several of Jesse Cook's CD's. Saw a music program on AXS TV recently of a concert and he was so good, that when his tour was announced, I had to get tickets. Wanted to see this guy live. It was a real treat. ROW 2, center! Very professional stage presence. The entire band was top notch talent on their instruments. Especially enjoyed the bassist, moving to the music as he played. Percussionist was truly a talent. This concert did not feature any singer. A little disappointed with that as my favorite CD has a female singer on some of the songs. I guess Jesse changes out on his back up musicians. Worth seeing for sure.

Lovely evening with Jesse Cook and his band. They were very engaging with the audience and enjoyed listening to the narrative between songs. The music is varied (as one would expect with world music). You have your quiet moments and your 'dancing' moments. Enjoyed having a short intermission during the concert. Great idea! Have been a fan for a long time and will remain so. Note: Until FEMA decides to give the Parker Playhouse their parking lot back to them, you will have to walk from temporary parking across the street to the venue. (not far though) Valet may be worth it.

Every time we see Jesse Cook and the band we are amazed. They take things beyond playing music and venture into the surreal with some of the things they pull off. Just watching Jesse use the entire length of his nylon strung guitar as a drum set is worth the price of the tickets alone! But then bring in the violin, the bass, another guitar and one of the best drummers i've ever seen and it is incredible. They cover off quite a spectrum of musical styles so one second you are transported to Columbia then the Middle East and then back to Denver for a Lumineers cover. We are looking forward to seeing them on their next visit!

We loved Jesse Cook's concert last Friday night at the Parker Playhouse. First, the playhouse does not have a bad seat anywhere. Jesse Cook & his band are world-class in \u2018new flamenco genre. The music is percussive and very dancable. It was all I could do to stop myself from bumping my neighbor in my seat, and I was grateful when Jesse Cook asked the audience to stand up! The band is impressive in its creative mastery of a wide range of instruments, bringing a physical texture and cultural richness that are very satisfying. While the acoustics of the venue were not great, the sounds of the live performance were a sensory feast. This was easily one of the warmest and most engrossing concerts I ve been to. Jesse Cook is a consummate artist and musician and the rest of his group were excellent as well. They gave a wonderful concert, including some of his older compositions as well as numbers from his most recent CD, Jesse Cook One World. His music is so encompassing that it defies classification. He is more than just a brilliant musician. His warmth and charm as a human being come across the footlights and make you, as an audience member, feel welcomed and a part of the musical experience. The venue was perfect for him and his group because it was cosy and comfortable and there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I have been a fan for several years, but this is the first opportunity I have had to see him play live. It was a wonderful experience and one I will recall fondly for many, many years I am sure.

Jesse Cook is still a niche artist, so you can often get very good seats at a reasoanble price. No turbotron arenas necessary. Commonly touring with 4-5 bandmates, each can swap out instruments to add layers to the music. Theur style is led by flamenco and other world-music guitar leads, with strong percussion. They're a very audience-friendly band. Lots of hand clapping, dancing, and even some sing along parts. Though I wish more people would learn to turn their smartphone screens to dim, and not use flash photography, it is a plus that Jesse Cook seems to always allow photos and video. So you can probably capture a few key moments.

Loved Jesse and his group, Chris, Nick, Dennis (Chendi was missing, sadly, but the young man who was the percussionist was extremely good) put on a fabulous show, again. This is the sixth time I have seen Jesse Cook in concert, and he never fails to deliver. He interacts with his audience, he tells background stories of his songs and the instruments and mentions his family. He personalizes his shows, and the time just flies by. Crazy about Jesse Cook's nuevo flamenco....I first heard his first album 'Gravity' at Big Sur and had since been hook and followed his development since then. Visualizing his mastery of the guitar is to me a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A Must-See moment. My only 'disappointment' is that the audio could've been managed a little better. I took my 16 year old son, who just received a Martin Guitar for his birthday, to the Jesse Cook concert. You know how hard it is to get a 16 year old to talk, right? Halfway through the show I turned to my son to see if he was enjoying himself and he just looked at me and smiled and said, "Mom, this is amazing!". Priceless. If you're a fan of latin guitar and the intersection of Ottmar Liebert and the Gypsy Kings, then you'll be sorry to miss Jesse Cook on his latest tour. Backed by four incredible musicians on guitar, violin, bass, accordion, and percussion, Mr. Cook tore up the stage with is virtuosity and affable stage side manner at this intimate setting. The band played two sets of music that took the better part of two hours from earlier albums and his new CD - The Blue Guitar Sessions. While Jesse Cook was clearly the star, all the musicians had a chance to show off their considerable chops. It was a great night of live music in a small setting. Outstanding.

I am a new fan to Jesse Cook (less than a year). I have his live DVD from Montreal and some cd's so I knew what to expect. His drummer/percussionist (Chandra?) is extremely talented trying to cover what was done by 2 musicians in the DVD. There is a little less depth in that area though in doing it that way. Jesse is flawless and a joy see perform. Nick was a wonderful compliment musically on the guitar. My wife and I were not disappointed as Chris Church played his heart out on the violin & showed his versatility with other instruments. We missed seeing the 'palmers' which we on the DVD but we were still very entertained. Jesse & Chris were very kind afterwards to sign my tickets. I didn't have room on my camera's memory card (video's) otherwise I would have gotten a picture or two afterward.

I only just became acquainted with this guitarist through my radio subscription service where I listen to the Contemporary Jazz channel. Last year they played one of his new songs, Double Dutch, which I loved. When I researched the artist, I discovered I liked a lot of his other works, and that he was coming to the Lincoln Theatre! His style is a mix of contemporary jazz, flamenco, rumba and world music. Jesse plays an acoustic guitar, and his band is small, 5 players; another acoustic guitar, an electric base guitar, a violin (among an assortment of other instruments, familiar and exotic) and a drummer (who also plays more than standard drums). The songs are mostly instrumental, although there were a few with vocals, and Jesse had some commentary between songs that was fun. I was fascinated watching musicians play real instruments, these were not synthesizers! The sound was adequately loud, without being deafening. Jesse also encouraged audience participation in keeping time to the beat. The Lincoln Theatre is a marvelous place, it made me wish I had been alive to see it in the heyday of the Columbus jazz culture. It has been renovated to bring back the original feel and charm of its glory days. It is a small venue, but was the perfect size for this concert. There was not a bad seat in the house, and the performance was close to sold out, if not sold out. Apparently Jesse Cook had played this venue some time in the past, and I'm sorry I wasn't familiar with his works then and missed it. I had a wonderful time, and my friends and I are are down for any repeat performances. I even went for groupie status, buying a t-shirt and a couple of CDs.

Jesse Cook and company did not disappoint. Some of the music was familiar to me because I play it at home a lot but some of it was new and I liked that too. Sometimes it was hard to believe there were only five people on that stage. The venue was excellent for getting the best sound possible and the seats were comfortable.. I don't know why I just learned about JC in the last year or so but better late than never.

I have seen many musicians and truly love live music. Jesse cook and his band were talented and engaging. They performed and sang and interacted with the crowd. The venue was small and quaint with great acoustics. He makes playing the guitar look easy and his Latin and middle eastern influences comes through in his music. It refreshing and unique to hear the Colombian Gaita and the violin in the same song. It is truly a great show and would recommend it.

I love jesse cook and have seen him many times I thought this particular concert did not have the usual energy Could have been the sound sydtem which i thought was harsh Could have been the playlist Could have been that jesse personally played less than usual deferring to his band mates who are excellent but they are not jesse Or could have been the replacement percussionist who several times was off the beat

This is the 3rd Jesse Cook concert I have attended in Atlanta and the 2nd one at the Buckhead Theater. He is an awesome artist with a wonderful band. I listen to his music all the time as I travel on business and pleasure. I highly recommend attending one of his concerts. Also, the Buckhead Theater is a great venue to really enjoy his music!!

I have been a Jesse Cook fan since Sept 2005 when I first saw him in Starkville, Mississippi. That was the night before Hurricane Rita struck the Gulf Coast. His show then was just as amazing that night as it was 1 Oct 2017 in Atlanta Georgia. He has never lost his showmanship playing before an audience nor has he lost his respect for his fellow band members, be they long term or new. He praises each member of his band repeatedly during the show and lets the showcase their respective talents. I frequently travel with in the southeast to see a Jesse Cook Concert and will continue too as long as I am able. Jesse keep up the good shows and people will always come to see them.

The VERY BEST QUALITY SHOW !!!!! Jesse Cook combined with the DCPA, Raleigh was a class act. This was the 5th time to see him in concert. Jesse is both talented and entertaining in the delivery of a world class show. He gave us a break from the crazy world around us. The Best.

Jesse Cook was incredible! His band is top notch, and you can tell they all enjoy playing together. Mr. Cook engaged with the audience and made sure we knew how happy he was to be there. He played a lot of his own songs and did some fantastic covers, too. He got the entire audience up on their feet and dancing, and what a blast we all had! Definitely one of the better shows I ve seen in my life. If Jesse Cook comes to you venue near you, don t miss him. I hope he comes back to Raleigh soon so I can see him and his wonderful band again!

Show was great. A bit short but impressive. Very talented group of musicians playing latin/rhumba music with classical/middle eastern and other influences. I wish I could play Aux. Percussion with this band! I currently play in Asheville with the band Lyric. Thanks again for your performance!

This was our first time at such a small venue for a concert. It was so personal by comparison. We would have gone to any venue to see Jesse but were so pleasantly surprised by the Birchmere we would definitely go there again.Parking was extremely easy and quick. The wait staff was courteous and prompt. Jesse certainly did not disappoint either. This was our first Jesse concert but we would follow him elsewhere as well. That was the best Wednesday night we've had in a long time.

Amazing group of musicians! Jesse Cook is a virtuoso player, but his entire ensemble is extremely talented. The entire show was outstanding, start to finish. Great, fun interaction with crowd, and they did some surprising cover tunes with some Latin flair. Excellent show! If you're considering going, stop considering and just go!
