Tom Odell

TOM ODELL IN CONCERT:Acclaimed British singer-songwriter Tom Odell isn't much concerned with musical trends. While many of his contemporaries have started dressing up their tunes with elements borrowed from dance music and hip hop, Odell has stuck to his indie pop guns, favoring simple, piano-based arrangements that let his heart-rending voice and confessional lyrics shine. In concert he performs seated at the piano, conjuring up evocative chords and melodies while his band adds gentle guitar, glacial glockenspiel, and haunting vocal oohs and ahhs to the mix. Odell wears his heart on his sleeve, and seeing him perform deeply personal songs like "Real Love" and "Magnetised" in the flesh only heightens their emotional impact.

Tom Odell is magic. His lyrics and passion make my heart go all pitter pat. He loves performing and it shows. His five piece band has an incredibly full sound and EVERY song is a showstopper. I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd- one of the most polite, respectful audiences I've seen in 20 years of LA concerts. Best $25 I've ever spent!

If you have a chance to see Tom Odell on his US tour, you should! My friend and I went in having only ever heard a few of his songs in passing and came out blown away. Tom Odell is clearly a very talented songwriter (we googled him afterwards), a dedicated musician, and an exciting performer. That he is also a singer with a powerful voice that was never drowned out by the percussion-heavy band (and the few obnoxiously loud folks at the bar in the back of Howard Theatre) seems to just be icing on the cake. Will be keeping an eye out for the next time he comes to the States.

I have been a Tom Odell fan for several years. He is an extraordinary talent, so I was thrilled to see that his current tour included DC. His concert was excellent. His band was a stellar group of musicians that helped make his music come alive. His lyrics are revealing and his piano skills are impressive,, Can't wait to see him again.

It was a miraculous evening. Everything inside just died for a moment to revive and bloom at every song, with every tune. Wonderful venue, very cosy and good acoustics.

Tom Odell is one of those acts I stumbled across on Spotify a year ago, and fell in love with. His writing and singing are top notch, and his first album (which I own on vinyl) is enjoyable from start to finish. I've kept an eye out waiting for him to tour in the US, and was thrilled when I saw that his sold-out show at the Mercury Lounge was moving to the Williamsburg Music Hall so that I could snag ticket My roommate and I got there early and sat upstairs, and had a great view of the stage and the audience below. The crowd in Brooklyn was fairly low energy at first (late weeknight), but as the show continued Tom connected with everyone and the house started to rock. I really enjoyed the more plugged-in, drum driven style of his live show - his band are great and I was moving along to the music with each song. I had a wonderful night and would recommend Tom Odell to anyone who enjoys folk/rock.

Tom Odell's performance was utterly amazing! I was blown away by his fantastic talent, as well as his highly energetic band. The sound quality and lights were very well done. However, the crowd was rather rude and talked a lot during softer songs or breaks between songs.

Tom Odell was so great live. The show started a little late which I wasn't too happy about but it was definitely worth the wait.

Tom Odell is a legend. He's not as big in America as he should be. Quality performer. Great live. Fantastic pianist. So worth it. Looking forward to his next concert in LA, whenever that might be.

Tom O'Dell gives 200% to his performance and so glad we got to see him perform but waiting until 10pm from an 8pm door opening was frustrating and unneccesary. At $13 for a beer we couldn't really afford to enjoy a couple of drinks either

This was my second time seeing Tom Odell in concert this year. Really like this guy - he will be a big star this year. So it was great getting to see him in a smaller venue before you have to pay big bucks to see him at the mega venues. He is really fun to see live, knows how to rock the house. And his music is awesome. I also LOVED the opening band, Vance Joy. They are a relatively new band from Australia and have really fresh music with intriguing rhythms. I will definitely go see them again when they come back to LA. This was my first time going to the El Rey. It, like the Avalon, is one of best smaller venues for live music. There is plenty of room and you can position yourself where you can easily see the band without being in the crush on the floor. And their wine is better than most of the other venues.

It seemed I was the oldest person on the room. I knew I was going to be. Sometimes it's okay to feel old after a show. I can't take many more of these "long nights on my feet" concerts anymore, but I came to see the Piano Player. I saw him in the Bowery earlier this year, and I knew I had to follow this Brit. He can get a crowd into a frenzy if he wanted; it's hard to believe this dude can be so good while being so young. And I'm talking about his piano playing. His voice is a mixture of the late Jim Carroll and David Bowie, with a little of Tom Odell thrown in. He is so mature in his lyrics, his working a song, it's hard to remember he is so young, even compared to me.

I cannot believe the circumstances in which we were able to see Tom Odell. It was $10 at the House of Blues in San Diego. The event was intimate and awesome. He is so passionate live. I prefer the live versions to his EP but we still listen to the studio versions. Seriously, see him live. You'll be glad you did! I saw him at SXSW in Austin and loved him there as well. I hope he comes back soon!

I have been a fan of Tom Odell for a few months now, and seeing him at the Media Club in Vancouver was awesome, such an intimate venue, so close up. He is such an amazing and talented young man. Met him before the show and he was lovely, very unassuming and sweet. He should go far!
