The Walkmen
The Walkmen consists of longtime friends Hamilton Leithauser, Walter Martin, Peter Bauer, Matt Barrick and Paul Maroon. After releasing an EP of four songs and playing shows at local New York City clubs, the group issued their full-length debut, Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone, in 2002. The album received rave reviews and earned the group a sizeable following. The band's major breakthrough came with their second full-length album, Bows + Arrows, released in 2004 and featuring the frantic, super-charged hit "The Rat.

The Walkmen always give a fantastic show, and Father John Misty sounded great as well. It was nice to get back to The Newport, too. Haven't been there since I graduated from Ohio State.

I've been a Walkmen fan for years. They helped me through some difficult times in different periods of my life. Needless to say, they expectations that they had to live up to performing for such a die-hard fan were very high... They delivered. They played all of their best songs, putting together a great blend of old and new classics, and incorporated a few surprises as well. They put on a fantastic show. I look forward to the next time they're in New York. The opening band, 'Tennis', was also pleasantly surprising.

It was amazing. Possibly one of the best concerts I've been to. There were a lot of instruments throughout the whole concert and it truly lively. It was so original, so worth it. I will definitely will be looking forward to yet another concert with them. bottom line: if you get the chance to go, GO!!!

this was the third time i have flown to see The Walkmen (Webster Hall, 09, Pittsburgh 2010)! i have never been taken back by a band as much as them. i have even stated to close friends, that i feel comfortable placing them at equal with The Clash (not that they sound alike but that they require a specific ear to appreciate the subtle of their chemistry). The music is ALWAYS on such different levels that require repetitive listening to appreciate. 'Everyone who pretended to like me are gone' is their anthem. Terminal 5 was the perfect venue for them and the lighting was extraordinary! i feel sorry for those who have not experienced their music. thank you Walkmen for another wonderful show and for giving me back my faith in Music as an art. Please come down to Florida (Boca Raton).

missed opening band. school of seven bells review: singer fits the part. drummer and guitarist could be omitted without anyone noticing. Gap soundtrack anyone? the plus side? they sound the same live as they do in studio. Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, good choice for interlude music. THE WALKMEN review: simply incredible. crowd was into it. cute boys. good sound. excellent stage presence. beautiful live sound vs. album.

The band sounds amazing live. I have to say that the lead singer Hamilton Leithauser reminds me of Rod Stewart. Just too cool and he can truly sing! It just comes out naturally\u2026what a gift indeed! However, they need to tighten-up their setlist. Too much lullaby can be a sleeper. They have several cookies and they should just hit the audience full force.

Awesome Show!!!! Hamilton belted the lyrics out like it was his last night on earth and the band was right behind him! It's such a pleasure to go see The Walkmen play and recreate live the energy they captured on Lisbon. This was a very inspiring show...... basically a master class in how to put on an amazing concert. If you missed them on this tour def make sure you catch them on their next one.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this show. I bought these tickets for my boyfriend as The Walkmen is his favorite group, but I had never heard of them myself. I listened to a few songs thru iTunes, but boy does it not do them justice! The music was great. There was not a single song that I didn't enjoy. The crowd was really into it as well. The sound was great, loved the instruments but most of all the singer's voice. I would definitely travel again to see this band. (I came from a little over an hour away but it took over 2 hours to get there because of an accident and construction) - it was totally worth it. The only thing I would say, is that I did not enjoy the Japandroids at all. They had such a different sound and it didn't seem to match the Walkmen. The crowd that came for them left and a whole new crowd showed up. I would have been happy if it was just the Blood Feathers and Walkmen.

The Walkmen sounded amazing. They are the best act going right now by far. Every song was performed with intensity and blew everyone away. I wnat to give some credit to the sound crew at the Troc for doing a great job with getting everything sounding perfect. I don't think the place was filled because of certain babseball team that was playing at the same time. I would not have missed this show for anything. I can't wait to see them again.

The evening began with the classic metallic voice of lead singer Hamilton Leithauser mezmerizing the audiance. Throughout the show I was amazed at how energetic the band was while maintaining the most mellow sound and coolest vibe. A short but sweet set with three encores was just enough to leave me wanting more. I will definatly see this band again when I get the chance. Thank you for playing in my life...

They were awesome. They did such an amazing mix of songs. It was great to hear We've Been Had and Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone along side so many songs off the new album. The crowd wasn't even obnoxious, which unfortunately is sort of rare at shows I've been to lately. The band was incredibly nice. This is my 4th time seeing them. This band has a very important sound. They know how to really rock and captivate audiences. Listen to their songs more than once. Their raspy jingle jangle vintage sound and unconventional guitar riffs along with organ and old court piano melodies, got my attention. I am sure this group will earn yours. From EWPTLMIG to Lisbon they have rolled with the punches(thats the punchline). I am a die hard fan if they continue this winning streak. Its truely great music.

This was my third time seeing The Walkmen in Boston. The other shows were at the Middle East which is always an amazing venue for this band. This show at the Royale was a nice change in scenery from the sort-of dirty underground vibe the Middle East goes for. This is fitting for a band that is transforming their image and sound in the same fashion. The Royale reminded me of a place I would go to for a high school prom, with black lights, chandeliers and leather couches strewn about. The space is very open which makes it easy to get a drink or move around if you need to. The Walkmen played a mix of songs from many of their albums, though mostly from Lisbon and You and Me. The opening bands were very good also! Overall a great concert.

This was my 12th Walkmen concert and they just keep setting the bar higher and higher. Hamilton's voice is a beast, and the rest of the band was tight and really bust their asses off when they perform. It was a perfect blend of soulful ballads and breakneck rockers and the song selection, a blend of old songs and songs from "Lisbon", flowed together seamlessly. Dan Mangan was a delightful opener with catchy, folk pop tunes. I did not enjoy Japandroids one bit. They remind me of a high school band that tries to hide its lack of songwriting/singing ability by drowning everything in distorting. I doubt they know the definition of the word, "nuanced". They were very painful to listen to, and the singer's spastic stage-presence was obnoxious.

the music box in hollywood as a venue was great. not too big and not too small. i tend to find smaller venues stuffy and hot, but this was not the case with the music box. they had a good selection of beers. the lines for the beer was not insane. the bathrooms were fine, too. as for the walkmen live, i was a bit disappointed. i love their old stuff and they did play some of that, which made me happy. more new stuff at the beginning of their set and more old stuff towards the end. they came out for an encore with old songs which i loved. i never thought of the walkmen sounding anything like coldplay before, but as soon as they sang their first song on stage, i couldn't get over how similar they sounded to coldplay. i am not a huge fan of coldplay, but i have seen them live with a friend at the izod in NJ and they sound very similar especially live and especially their new stuff. i have never heard of the opening bands. dan mangan band came out first and they were really cute. mellow songs. nice. japandroids were super intense. it's just 2 guys. they were great live as far as they were SO into their set. it looked like they were having so much fun up there playing music. it got the crowd into it. the singer/guitarist had some cute comments. their music is too "loud" for me, but their presence on stage was great.

These "after party" types of shows rarely work well. The band is usually tired and just not into it. They had just played the Boston Calling festival a couple hours prior. Personally charging $25 to see this type of after show is a bit over priced. A $17 would have been more appropriate. Hamilton (lead singer) seemed awake enough but he was pretty dull most of the show keeping his hands in his pockets and not really getting involved as much with the crowd as they would have liked. Watching him, you'd almost think he sold out Madison Square Garden. I didn't love the vibe he was giving out. As a band, The Walkmen were simply just alright. Nothing incredible. If you enjoy the albums, just stick with that.

I had seen them a few years ago before Lisbon came out and was impressed by Hamilton's vocals but not blown away by the band. This show blew that one out of the water. The setlist was definitely focused on Heaven and Lisbon, but there was plenty from their older albums to mix it up. Hamilton absolutely killed it and the horn section they brought on for standouts like "Stranded" really added a lot. Super fun, fantastic, exhilarating show.

Got to the venue alittle early and ended up in the front row off to stage left infront of the guitar player. The Walkmen were really good, transitioning very well between songs and playing a very diverse setlist. The lead guitarist has a very unique playing style and it stands out even more live than on record. Hamilton's vocals were near perfect and he brought a lot of energy to the songs.

The new material from the albums 'Heaven' and 'Lisbon' sounded even stronger live. A number of back catalog tracks, wheeled out specially for the NYC audience, were incredibly powerful. You'll struggle to find a more committed and evocative singer - it's hard to take your eyes off him - while the band can deliver either hypnotic, edgy, discordant guitar or create a range of mellower moods. Nothing is predictable and all is thoroughly genuine. Simply one of the best bands around.

The band sounded great and Hamilton's voice is very powerful and passionate live. Great stage presence - really blew me away! They also brought out the horn section for a number of songs, which I loved. Terminal 5 is a pretty decent place for a concert -- it's a huge place, but I got there early and got a really great spot very close to the stage. i had high hopes for this walkmen gig, it sounded like the perfect musical storm: headline slot at a worthy festival, in - of all the cool venues - an opera house. but they STILL far exceeded my expectations, and the astonishingly good set they delivered had more potency than all of the opening acts combined. whether showcasing new material from their upcoming sixth album or playing older material, including their first ever composition as a band, they fully connected with their audience at every opportunity, making every measure of every song count, regardless of its arrangement or history -- that takes some doing (and about ten years of practice). about halfway through 'all hands and the cook', when hamilton leithauser wails "by the way, this won't last..." i imagine he's talking about something other than his band's longevity, because this is far from being their farewell tour.

the stage presence of Richard the Lionhearted. the spittle flying from Hamilton Leithauser's mouth is like the smoke from the proverbial gun, the sign of a man who leaves it all on the stage. the dude wrecks his voice; he knows no fear. the instrumentalists are consummate professionals playing with tight possession of their ability, with the exception of drummer Matt Barrick who lives on the other end of the spectrum, a genius Loki who puts his body and soul into fast, powerful, accurate percussion. the strange mix of passion and professionalism rising from these young men in well-fitting clothes and cynical hearts is like the mix of the alcoholic drinks they imbibe on stage, to hide the pain of not being the billionaire stars they deserve to be, and to help focus on giving the music they've been playing for literally decades a shine and newness that the neighborhood can sense. feel ashamed that you weren't at this concert and the hundreds they've had before. feel shame. this was an excellent performance by men who know the meaning of the word "musician."

I'm a huge Walkmen fan and I got tickets to see them in NYC for the Lisbon tour as a surprise for my husband who is an even bigger fan. We were completely blown away by how incredible they are live. They have this amazing energy to them and it was contagious with the entire crowd. They are so talented musically which makes their live shows so much fun to watch and be apart of. They played a great mix of old and new songs and we left the show so excited that we are still talking about it every day since the show. I also loved Terminal 5.
