At the Drive In

At the Drive In

AT THE DRIVE-IN IN CONCERT: Post-hardcore quintet At the Drive-In always gives audiences a show that’s just as powerfully cathartic as it is sonically adventurous. The band builds each song around the familiar pummeling power chords and screaming vocals of hardcore, but they also push the envelope by launching into off-kilter riffs and noisy sonic explorations. This is largely thanks to the efforts of guitarists Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Jim Ward, who combine jazzy melodies, face-melting riffs, and swirling sound effects to bring a richly textured musical experience to fans. Vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala is a lightning rod for all the energy, creativity, and intensity of the group’s diverse sound, stalking around the stage as he shouts his cryptic, angst-fueled lyrics into the microphone.

At the Drive-In was a lot of fun. They still have the same stage presence and exuberance they did over a decade ago. I don't know how Cedric doesn't break his ankles jumping around at 41 like he did at 25 but he's still the same incredible performer. The sound was great, the Fillmore is a great venue. Watch out for the circle pit, if that's not your thing. Le Butcherettes and were very good as well.

I've followed this band since I was 10, so this show blew my mind. Regardless if you are a new listener or a loyal fan, you will not be disappointed!

At the Drive In restored my faith in live shows. Being in my mid forties I've seen too many shows and get bored or annoyed quick. From the opening act Le Butcherettes I was fully engaged in the show. Teri Gender Bender is a delight to witness live. Screeching, moaning, dancing, punching herself and even singing sultry deranged songs. At the Drive In hit the stage at full blast and was memorizing. First time seeing the group and can't even imagine the energy they had 17 years ago considering they made the Energizer Bunny look like he needs a re-charge. Cedric Bixler-Zavala leaped into the crowd about a minute into the first song and never stopped his high flying front man antics. The rest of the band was amazing. I love music but I have never had an ear for who is doing what but their sound was overwhelming. Why does no one like Rock n Roll anymore? Because, they've never seen At the Drive In. The Fillmore is Detroit's second best venue after the Fox (John Stewart once said "I see why Detroit is so broke, you spent all your money on this theatre."). The installation of metal detectors is appreciated instead of the wand and pat downs they use to use. We sat on a long red velvety couch in the Box seats which was sweet. Thank for reading

the show was too short, would have liked to have heard more songs off of In Casino Out and Vaya, a little over and hour is too short for any headliner

Go see this band! At The Drive In put on amazing live show. High energy, raw power, & passion. Cedric Bixler Zavala is incredible to see & hear. Le Butcherettes were the perfect opening band. I hope to see both bands again.

Saw the 6/1 show and it was GREAT. I am a little bias so please take this review with a grain of salt. Performance 10/10 Sound 10/10 Set list 7/10. Considering they have 2 EPs and 3 LPS mainly playing of the recent LP set list was what made the overall experience not as great as it could have been. Still worth checking out and will see them again.
