Asleep at the Wheel were terrific as usual. I love this group. But the real surprise treat was the opening act, the Quebe Sisters (kway-bee). Three talented fiddler's playing with the Clark twins (two tall, beautiful redheads) and bass player from AatW. They harmonize reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters, with a Texas swing accent. I liked their part of the show so much that I bought two of their CD's. Highly recommended show.

This is one of the best shows we have seen. If you like Texas Swing, you will love Asleep at the Wheel. Ray Benson has a fabulous voice and guitar and is one of the best musicians around. The most difficult aspect of the show is not being able to dance to the music!

Show was great as usual. However, I missed John Michael (previous piano player). The new piano player didn't seem to enjoy himself which was sad. Loved Eddie, steel guitar player. And Ray Benson is wonderful. Will plan on returning to the Birchmere for future shows. Especially liked that the band changed the play list and included some new songs from Willie & the Wheel.

Great venue. Great band. You can never go wrong with seeing these folks. If you like the best in Cowboy/Cowgirl; Texas Swing music, these are the guys. Each member a superb top notch musician. And they all look like they're having a blast. Favorite part is when Ray mentioned Willie (Nelson) "couldn't be here tonight." "Then again, he was never going to be here tonight." referencing their new Willie and the Wheel album. Then, a band member said, "Filling in for Willie Nelson is Ray Benson" who then replied, "I had to get real high for this part .... " Was a fun night!

I have always been a big fan of Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel and that type of music. Thisis the 3rd time I have seen them and it was a great night. It was my birthday and I had front row tickets with my wife......they played most of my favorite songs, some new ones and they could have stayed hours longer.

This band is so good! I must say upfront that I am definitely not a big C&W fan. But this group has everything working right, and I was drawn in immediately. I went becuz the tix weren't too expensive and I heard rumors they were are a bargain to see a great band for a first-timer like me. The group was musically tight, nice variety of vocalists and musical styles, great mix of tunes, not too much chatter but some good humor thrown in to make it all enjoyable. There was a dance floor, and the room was full of swing dancers who jumped right up to do their thing, which gave the room an unexpected casual ambience that was as much fun to watch as the musicians. The downside was that it was a small venue, and even at that, was only half full. I didn't feel the show was well publicized. Did keep the wait short for drinks though. I noticed that my friends and I were about the youngest people at this show, these old folks know something we don't. Overall, just a plain enjoyable evening.

The show is awesome!! I don't think there was a person in that arena who wasn't clapping or tapping to the music. Blues, Jazz, Swing. Country, with a lot of soul!! Maybe, Rockabilly might be the answer!! The whole band was amazing!! My Sister & I had no idea what we were going to hear, we absolutely enjoyed ourselves. The Venue needs some updating but, all around great show.

I have been an Asleep at the Wheel fan ever since I first saw them on Austin City Limits years ago. I love Western Swing music and am glad they keep that kind of music going. Have seen them 3 times and it is always a good show. Amazing how Ray Benson keeps bringing in new members and the music is still top notch.

Amazing evening that paired The Wheel with the Quebe Sisters. Two top western swing groups on the road today. The Quebe's are unmatched fiddle players who sing harmony the way it was invented - none better. Put that together with the drive, musicianship and variety of songs from Ray and The Wheel and you have the best evening possible. I'm watching for a return in the future!

I always catch AATW when they SWING through the Northeast. This time around, they added a few really nice twists to shake up the act. On tour promoting their new Still the King album (another gem!), they added an intro act...The Quebe Sisters Band. GREAT addition! High energy fiddle players...with David Miller on bass. Another highlight was having Brian Newman (Gramercy Park Hotel residency) join the band on trumpet for a few tunes...Choo Choo Ch'Boogle rocked the house! AATW live is always fun. Ray Benson has been at it for 45 years! What's nice is that the band continues to evolve. They are constantly on tour...hopefully for years to come!

We saw this group last year and I remember only a few repeat songs. This show was much more downbeat with a new great female pianist . It seems the group changes slightly every year but the very talented musicians put on a different show so that it does not become repetitive. We will see this very enjoyable group anytime it appears.

The band is still wonderful to listen to. Two new gals in the band. One on piano and a fiddle player. Both can play their instrument very well and both have great voices. Fiddle player is very cute and always has a great smile. I saw the ring but I am still in love. Both are a great addition to the band. Steel guitar was also very talented. Can't wait to see them again somewhere. Great performance!

From the minute Ray Benson and his band walk on stage, the first notes, it is one great song after another. Texas Swing in the genre, Bob Wills was the founder. Boogie-Woogie with a honky-tonk piano, tunes are always included in the show.

Saw Big Ray and the band in 1980 for the first time ever..34 years later Turning Stone gave me a second chance to see the Hottest Texas swing band around. The band didn't start til 8:20 due to unforeseen delays and didn't have a problem making it up by playing til 9:45. This band is a MUST SEE... Totally AWESOME SHOW. :) It is always great to see the performers having a much fun entertaining us as we do enjoying their show. TY AAtW

When it comes to classic Country and Western Swing there is no one better out there than Asleep At The Wheel. Ray Benson is the stalwart of this band and although the rest of the lineup changes periodically Ray keeps them grounded in what they do best. The band was professional to the end considering that they had serious travel issues and apparently arrived only 15 minutes before the scheduled showtime. Much respect to their crew as well for performing expertly under such intense pressure with no set up time and no soundcheck.

As always AATW was high energy, western swing fun. Their new fiddler, Katie Holmes, is terrific and looked very at home with the band. They had traffic/bus trouble getting to the gig and didn't arrived until just before the show- their crew and they were super professional and good spirited getting the show on and entertaining the crowd. We in the crowd were happy to have them even if they were a little late. 2 encores- great show!

Over the last several years i've seen huge arena concert shows from the stones to streisand with their 20,000 size audiences in vegas and baseball stadiums... they were awesome... when i saw asleep was coming to town didn't hesitate to get tickets... upon arriving at the 1,000 capacity gilbert venue it took a little while to get used to the idea this was not going to be a million dollar extravaganza.... no dazzling light show, special effects, or liquor... but as asleep began their first song i was instantly glad i was in the room, they were awesome.... this was a total show about the music and their fantastic swing boogie style... i believe they did "route 66" third song in, that was the one song i was waiting for... as the show progressed, was unaware ray benson is such a great guitarist... started to wish we all were in a small bar and could've been dancing with the band rocking a few feet away, and i could've had a couple of drinks... but, it was great...

I wasn t really sure who they were, but I bought the tickets for my dad for Fathers Day. Turned out the band was awesome! With Ray Benson standing at over 6 7 , 67 years old still shredding the guitar with his fiddles in the background was incredible! Very bluesy, bluegrass style. Loved it. Venue was smaller than expected which was great for those not liking crowds. Will be going back to the Aura.

For someone who loves Texas swing and country-western music this group is superb. They are very versatle and can jam on traditional and modern country. Their leader, Ray Benson seems to like Maine as they play up here every now and then. The group can be heard often on Willies Road House on Sirius radio.

The opening act was good "cocktail music"; Patsy Kline-type smooth songs. "Asleep" was the GREAT group of musicians I have seen four times before. I even danced a few steps with my favorite waitress in the aisle on the way out!!! The beat just makes your feet itch!!!!

I am not a big fan of big or even medium size concerts, so the intimate scale of the Birchmere was perfect for me. Asleep At The Wheel is such a fun uptempo group and I thoroughly enjoyed their performance which was played to an audience of white-haired, gray-haired and no haired people--yes, this group is really big with the AARP crowd.

I love live music so much more than studio recordings. This band is a huge reason why. They are endlessly surprising, simple when called-for and unbelievably proficient at their craft. A great sense of humor and conversational tone with the audience caps it all off. I've seen a lot of bands and these guys just topped my list.

A terrific Friday nite for this 80 year old - - enjoying a still wonderful 66 year old, Ray Benson. The guy has not lost a thing during his almost four decades leading AATW. He also has not lost his touch for retaining long time band members as well as finding new members when necessary with world class talent. Two amazing fiddle players/vocalists along with long time drummer and steel guitar player. A wonderful evening for this toe tappin' man. Don't know how any fan of Western Swing can sit still during the show. Thank you much Ray and Company!! The opening Dale Watson also very enjoyable as well as the "encore" with both Ray and Dale, or was it Dale and Ray??

Good songs and fast paced. Enjoyed the night. My daughter did not know what "Texas Swing" music was, and she liked it. Now she says she is going to visit Austin. Enjoyed the steel guitar, also.

The band was exceptional in it's content and execution. The fiddlers kept the tempo upbeat and the solo performances by virtually all band members were superb. Not certain what to expect from a Merry Texas Christmas, the content was both seasonal and captivating. Definitely would recommend it to a friend.

I've been to a lot of concerts through the years. This was the first time that I've ever seen a band that genuinely looked like they were having as much fun as the audience. Despite the fun atmosphere, they band was tight. Their music was almost flawless. The Birchmere is a great place to see a band. It is fairly intimate and the acoustics are great. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It was the best entertainment evening I've had in many years. I can't wait to go to another event there.

We have seen Asleep four times. Every show has been different and always superbly entertaining. We make it a point to go to their performances any time they come to the Birchmere. The group, especially the piano player, are great musicians.

I loved the show -- we had an amazing view to watch the performance. Would definitely recommend Asleep at the Wheel. Their music was fantastic and we really enjoyed the complete show.

The performance by Ray Benson and his Asleep at the Wheel at Birchmere was so great.. One of those concerts that you just did not want to end. The concert showed what great musicians everyone was and the way they "shared the spotlight" was magical. They clearly love their music and one could not tell that they probably play the same songs every night in different venues. But to us in the audience, they seemed fresh, engaged and energized! I will see them again!

Even tho the weather kept some folks from attending and the audience was not as large as it could have been, Asleep at the Wheel was terrific and the audience really made up for the folks that were missing. What a talented group of entertainers.

A no-intermission 90-minute show with a variety of instruments, multiple singers, and a variety of musical genres -- not just country and western (although that was the dominant one). The band had some fun at the expense of the lighting technician when the timing of the spotlight was a bit slow (or was that planned?). I was disappointed that the lead singer's voice had the least clarity, but it was still understandable, and familiarity with most of the songs helped.

As usual Asleep At The Wheel put on a great show. Doing the western swing music of Bob Wills, their own tunes and several Christmas songs, it was a show nobody could forget. Ray Benson has some of the best musicians which help make his music sound great. Can't wait for them to come back to Fort Worth!

The 1 and 1/2 hour show flew by. We did not want the great music and fun to stop. This was the best way to get the holiday spirit. I can not remember when I have had so much fun at a concert. I am looking forward to the next time I can see Ray and the gang perform.

It was a really great show...loved the music and the steel guitar was out of this world, but needed to smile more. And the girl's voice was very good, as well as her playing...but she needs some help on her stage appearance. But I would go again.

This is probably the 5th time we've see AATW and the first time I was not completely revved up when I left. Ray's voice is still amazing and the instrumentals and other vocals were tight. What I missed was the connection between band members. There was no eye contact and only minimal banter. Felt like i walked in on a couple that was having a spat.

Very tight, disciplined performance of classic Western swing...A@the Wheel is a tough act to follow! They are the gold standard! Birchmere sound engineers may have been "asleep at the wheel" at certain points in the performance, however.

This was my first time seeing Asleep At the Wheel and I was totally blown away by the extreme talent and professionalism of every member of this band. They are on top of their game... very high energy. I loved they way they related to the audience, and especially loved Ray, who is larger than life. My only regret is that I waited 53 years to see these fantastic performers do their thing. I will be a repeat customer for sure!!!
