Moby

World-renowned DJ and super-producer Moby dropped his 11th studio album Innocents in October 2013, impressing fans yet again with the announcement that it was entirely recorded in his Los Angeles apartment. Moby is best known for the 1999 musical milestone, “Play,” which not only sold 10 million copies and produced eight singles, but also turned EDM into a household name. In 2013, Moby entertained ticket holders with both old and new songs, covering popular and lesser-known material from all 11 of his studio albums. Between a small tour in support of “Innocents,” as well as a handful of west coast DJ sets and festivals, Moby keeps concertgoers in both theaters and rave tents happy with his massive energy and stage presence.

I'm surprised everything went so well considering how massive this event was. The "tent city" that popped up in the RFK Parking lot was great, and gave the promoters the ability to create their own space exactly as they wanted it. No narrow hallways or small rooms - The rooms were huge and the hallways had plenty of space for groups of people to walk in opposite directions. Dancers and hoopers told me they enjoyed having enough space in the rooms to dance. The sound and lighting in each room were incredible, and all of the professional dancers on stage and around the event really added a nice touch. I would definitely recommend any of the Massive events thrown by Steez to anyone who loves electronic music, loves danging, and loves a good party.

I gotta say that Moby it's WAY much better in concert than in any of his albums. He is energetic and funny, and make everyone have a good time. Going VIP? it's not worth it. Even though is a good show, I wouldn't pay more than $35 to see him. Keli SCARR ROCKS

I've been a fan of Moby's music for years. Nothing's better to lounge around to. Plus, he's got some great uptempo, clubby/techo(or whatever it's called these days) tracks when you feel like actually moving. When I saw that he was performing live, I had NO idea what to expect. I know there are actual instruments and actual musicians on his albums. So..... Moby behind some turntables? Moby surrounded by computers like some evil wizard? But Moby with an actual BAND!? With a guitar (a Gibson SG, no less! Channneling Angus Young, maybe?) A very pleasant surprise, indeed! I must say, the man rocked out. Guitar solos and all. I do think there was some lip/instrument synching going on some songs. I imagine that it's well nigh impossible to get certain tracks to sound remotely the same outside a studio, but I'm not offended. This was a rock show, pure and simple. Lights, amplifiers, you name it. I'd absolutely see him again.

Moby's concert was amazing. First, the venue is small enough for you to stand as closer or as further as you want, and still hear the music clearly. Second, Moby's songs are so varied, from rock, through ambient, to techno, on stage as well. And his performance is personal. Extremely recommended!

Moby was amazing! I have always followed his music but this was the first time we went to see him live. The Music Hall is small so the setting was intimate and Moby rocked the joint! His rave background was quite evident because the backbeat was deep and throbbing and kept the crowd swaying even through some of the slower numbers. My only quibble with his set was when he asked his opening act (Kelly Scar, I think, who is also part of his band) to sing a song to her 2 yr old son, which was sweet and sentimental but totally was out of sync with the rest of his show. But the rest of his show was just awesome!

MOBY was amazing. His singers, band and the opening act. I mean seriously. I cried, I laughed and I danced. Blown away. This is in my top five concerts of all time. And I've seen U2, The Police, Cat Power, The Strokes, Depeche Mode, The Cure Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc. The Music Hall of Williamsburg was such a great and intimate venue for this. It's my new favorite place to see shows.

Moby was spectacular! Last time I'd seen him live was in North Carolina in 2003 and I'd imagined this show would be more technical with lights & more "showy" but it was so grassroots & small & amazing!! The Music Hall of Williamsburg was the perfect venue to see him. The musicians he performed with were outstanding and displayed his music with authenticity. A special shout out for Kelli Scarr who's vocal range is incredible...I will be checking out her work TODAY! The only issue that almost ruined the evening for me was a pair of drunk German teenage girls who disturbed everyone around them by spilling beer, taking incessant photos and talking at inappropriate times during the show....I wish that the venue had security around to monitor this issue because they would have been kicked out for the remainder of the crowd to enjoy the show. I liked Moby's mellow attitude - and the intimacy of the entire evening.

moby, kelli and all of the musicians really put together a great performance that had us dancing at the music hall in williamsburg! he covered a lot of material in the 2 hour set on a small stage in a very intimate setting where they were just a few feet away from me and the crowd. it takes an incredible amount of energy to perform at that level a few nights a week in different locales and so i thank you moby and allof the other musicians and performers for a great evening of fabulous music!

It's great to have Moby back in the US again. It's been a while since he toured here, especially with a live band. The show was amazing. It was a great combination of new material and old. From his version of Honey, to the amazing Feelin So Real, to Pale Horses the show was incredible. Great light show and great fun. Kelli Scarr opened the show and has an amazing voice. She also backed Moby and took lead on a few tracks. The entire band was very talented and the singers all have some pipes! All in all a great show that I would LOVE to see again.

I had high hopes after Starscape earlier this year and MASSIVE totally delivered. The artists were great, the venue was great, the crowd was great (thank god they made it 18+), and it was just all around a great time. Being a bit older and not indulging in any "rave-enhancing" substances, I sometimes get worn out before the end of the night but MASSIVE had me dancing til security showed us all the door. I felt that all the artists put on great shows but my personal favorites were Bad Boy Bill, Tittsworth, Moby, and Infected Mushroom.

Had a blast at massive, cant deny it. But how whack was it that the left speaker blew out during freaking skream... pretty early on in the night and nothing was done about it. I know it has to be a difficult thing to fix in the middle of a festival but shiiiiiiit, Excision with no bass???? Next time bring your PKs for back up! SORRY but that put a HUGE damper on the night. $75 to listen to speakers that sound worse than a car system?? (Not your fault, Jeff, still king of womp in my book) Anywho... Ok so fall massive was awesome. I love shows and I'm always going to them but this was seriously unrivaled. This was even better than starscape. The whole idea with the tents being in a circle made it so easy to go from one artist to the next and it made it very unique. I primarily went for the dub nation arena. wouldn't you know that's the stage where the bass was lacking. Even the artist complained. I think they only had mids. the organizers blamed the police for that but ironically when i went to the other stages the bass was rocking. That is what stopped me from giving the full 5 stars.

...Not really, though. My friends got me listening to Dubstep and while I liked it, i couldn't find myself listening to it for more than an hour but when i went to Fall Massive....oh my god. The music was amazing, the staff people there were really friendly, the other fans were super cool, and the lights blew my mind. I've been to quite a few concerts of various differences but I have to say this one was my all time favorite. It changed the way I will listen to music from now on. The only complaint i had was the price of water....$3 bucks for one bottle? I know that's how they make their money but damn. Whatever, i had a great time and will probably go next year.

The event was incredible, loved the location and the set-up was also incredible. Awesome people, awesome music, awesome time! Why 4 stars? The staff was total fail. Spent like 30 minutes being herded from one place to another being told conflicting stories about where we could smoke, sit, or stand. There seemed to be no communication between staff about these regulations, and most of them did not know where anything was. Other than that, it was incredible.

It was really great. Infected Mushroom and Dirtphonics awesome. Bummer that Infected and Excision played at the same time. Some music was average and all a little the same, I felt like I was waiting for the big acts, and then my 2 favorite djs where both playing at the same time, could of mixed it up a little bit. As the festival wasn't overly packed and there was enough room to dance and get from stage to stage. There should of been a chill out area, with some couches, or carpet. the term heated tunnels, made it sound like it would be heated. It was still cold, let people know that they should still wear warm clothes, you aren't going to get massively sweaty hot. I was cold, which was a little annoying. Have a little more variety with music, maybe some breaks, more drum and bass or psy-trance. better food. get a bit more creative

Getting into the show was super fast and easy. It only took them a few minutes to get each person searched, ticket checked and through the entrance. It was very easy to navigate from tent to tent and plenty of bathrooms. The first few acts that I caught were pretty good. Lucky date and Charles feel good were awesome. Mord Fustang made me a follower- I can't wait until he comes back to town. He started off with his hits and progressed into remixes. The only issue was his set ended early because of laptop/sound complications. Zedd was also great-played a lot of great remixes along with his own music. Sidney Sampson, Zedds Dead and martin Solveig were epic too. Diplo blew my mind with all of the great mixes he played. When he played Rusko-Hold on(subfocus remix) after just playing Bass Cannon, I literally started screaming. Moby's set was great until the sound problems with the DC noise ordinance and the noise had to be turned down. Armand VanHelden was an incredible way to end the night-perfect dance music.

There were less than a handful of DJs who played House/Techno/Electro music. The best and most entertaining one was Christopher Lawrence. His mixes and the laser show was phenomenal! My eyes were getting spoiled rotten. I heard this even has been struggling to find a venue and I hope that will continue searching. The parking lot of RFK stadium just doesn't do it. A bit too much dub-step. Maybe it's more prevalent up here, but this is a previous resident of Miami speaking.

I was simply blown away. I really like Moby, have liked him for many years now but I really wasn't expecting the concert to be as good as it was! Phenomenal experience, tremendous energy from the crowd and the performers, songs from the last 20 years, a combination of both quite, slow and fast, powerful. Moby is great but the concert wouldn't be as amazing if it wasn't for the female vocals that accompany him in his songs thanks to Kelli Scarr and an African-American singer (whose name I'm unfortunately not aware of) with an insanely deep, soulful voice that rocked the house. His drummer, the violinist and the basist are also great. Moby played from 9.35 p.m. to 11.45 p.m. without taking a break...pretty impressive. Definitely go if he comes to your town, you don't want to miss it.

This is the second time that I saw Moby live and it was once more AMAZING! This time was a smaller venue but he is just too good!! Even if he didn't like it in the beginning, cause the guitar was too loud, the sound was great and he (and the singers -2 great women- and the band) put all the audience on their feet for almost 2 hours.Especially because even, as he said, he has songs with deep meaning there are others that are "just fun to play and dance" and that's what we did.

Moby's live performance is so incredible, it makes his energetic DJ sets seem pointless by comparison. With two singers, a bass player, violinist, drummer, and himself on guitar, congas and vocals as well, it was a full-on concert experience. The venue was clean and intimate, like a House of Blues, but the acoustics were a bit fuzzy - it was hard to pick out the instrumentation at times. Moby is a very self-concious musician, asking the crowd several times, "Are you guys having a good time?" YES, Moby, YES although I don't blame him for wondering - the dull, conservative Texas crowd send a mixed chorus of boos and cheers to Moby when he brazenly made fun of George W. Bush, pointing out that their claiming him as a native son is a falsehood, since the Bush family is origianlly from Connecticut. Moby makes no effort to separate his political beliefs from his music, which is offensive to some, but this reviewer believes is a great thing! We need more intelligent liberals in this world to speak out! He played a great cross-section of all his U.S.-released works, from "Feelin' So Real" to a Johnny Cash cover, to songs and reprises from his newest album, "Wait for Me." The only thing this reviewer would have asked for is more material from the album "Hotel," which is one of his best and badly underrated. Moby was very nice to stay after the show and sign our T-shirts and take pictures with us behind the venue after the show. Moby's political morals even came through at the souvenier stand . . . the T-shirts were made from climate-neutral organic cotton! Thank you, Moby! Come to New Orleans!

From the opening by Kelli Scarr I knew the night was going to be wonderful. I've been a fan of Moby's music for over a decade now. From his beginnings in punk rock and evolution into techno/dance all the way up to his more melodic and ambient style, I love it all. I've seen Moby perform only once before (about five years ago in Houston, TX) and it was something I'll never forget. But his Wait for Me tour is something else. I got my girlfriend to go with me, who wasn't THAT familiar with Moby (until like most people she actually heard the music and said "THIS is by Moby??), and she has been telling everyone about it. The show itself was beautiful. His performance of his older techno songs, his more mainstream songs (ala Play), the singles from Wait for Me, and everything in between (including a nice cover of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash). Moby's performance in Dallas at the Palladium Ballroom now takes the number one spot in concerts/musicians I've seen perform in terms of performance, ambience/environment, fun, etc - which knocks Radiohead down to number two (sorry Thom). Moby, I love you!

As I walked into the House of Blues for the first time since it has become the House of Blues (formally my old stomping grounds - night club Avalon and nightclub Axis) I felt an overwhelming rush excitement come over me. Not only was I walking into a place where I had spent MANY years dancing and enjoying music spun by local and international DJs, I was also about to see Moby perform live for the first time. For the record I have loved and still love Moby's musical creations. I think he is brilliant and the music he creates is beautiful and tends to tickle my soul in only the way that REALLY good music can :) His music has been with me through thick and thin so needless to say I walked into the concert with a biased opinion. On my way to the House of Blues I knew that I was going to have a fun filled night of music/dancing. We opened the doors and we saw that the place was packed with people dancing and singing along to Southside with Moby and Kelli Scarr (the original version of Southside was recorded with Gwen Stefani) on stage. We immediately went for the floor and made our way towards the stage. It was a difficult task pushing through the energetic crowd but we made our way up close and found our spot for the night which was about 20 - 25 feet away from the stage. From then on, the show was nothing less than great. Moby performed all of the songs with live instruments rather than with turntables which was what I was REALLY hoping for. He played a great mix of his classics and of course songs from his new album Follow Me. Moby's back up vocalist is AMAZING, a real power house. I couldn't have picked a better vocalist to sing for and with Moby. Kelly Scarr has so much talent, another great voice to compliment Moby's music. The sound was great and the light show was a lot of fun and had a lot of energy. I hope that Moby comes back to Boston real soon. THANK YOU FOR SUCH A FUN NIGHT, keep on rock'n!!!!!!

I couldn't believe this guy was as good as he was live! I knew of Moby from the song "Extreme Ways" but other than that I thought he was just someone who recorded cool "electronic music." I wasn't expecting him to have such a high energy sound! How does the drummer get so much noise out of a single bass drum? Unbelievable! The bass player really supplied the necessary low-frequency punch for the the Vic Theater! Kudos to Moby for making a fool out of the guy who threw a drink on him from the audience! He was clearly upset about the incident!

Last night's concert was an experience of a life-time. Moby, Claudia, Kelly and the rest of the band created an unforgettable ambience with their outstanding performance. God bless them!

I was very unsure how Moby would pull off a smaller venue. I had seen him at Glastonbury and knew he was phenominal live... Needless to say, he was amazing and I loved the more intimate experience. Truely awesome

Moby played all his best dance tunes. The venue was perfect. He was personable toward the audience and he even allowed a marriage proposal to take place on stage. I hope he returns soon!

Good set up with the tents. I would advise that next time give hand outs at the doors or set times and performances on which stages. Also, need more bass, more amps/watts. Try to get less of the grungy sounds and more of the west coast rave scene, you'll get more ravegoers. Also try and end the night with a big name such as; Skrillex, Kaskade, Doc. P, etc. Overall great event, I will see yal next year!

We spent most of the night walking from tent to tent trying to find anything even vaguely decent that wasn't dubstep. Zedd was the only enjoyable set. All my friends had left due to the lack of any interestng music by 11, so I followed suit at 11:30. A total waste of a sizable amount of money. I am done with Steez Promo, too many events overrun with 16 year old hipsters on acid wearing leotards ironically. The laser system was spectacular though, that's the reason this event gets 2 stars. In 11+ years of raving, I cannot ever remember such an insane, frantic, luminous laser system. That was a highlight in an otherwise disappointing night.

I enjoyed Fall Massive overall, and I was there for almost the entire time. It was hard to find a beginning dj that I was into, but the good djs were there at the end. The tents were kind of cold unfortunately, which kept me going back to the dub tent to keep warm. Also, there were not a lot of options for food to eat and no place to sit but the ground. Oh well. Overall, it was fun.

Many DJs have been playing at the RFK stadium parking lot recently, but the layout for this event was perfect. It was easy to get to all of the stages, bars and Porto-potties. Some great DJs played and Moby had a great set. Unfortunately, the sound system blew for DJ Dara and Charles Feelgood, so their sets were played fairly quietly and most people wandered off.

Overall it was very well planned, everything went smooth both going in and out. The music was amazing and the crowd was fun. It was easy to find water, beer, restrooms and coat hanging. The only down side was that after they blew the speakers on Dub Nation, there were no replacement. The rest of the night I had to avoid this part because the music was not loud enough and it just made me angry. Had really looked forward to see Excision, but it was better to listen to them through head phones on my iPhone.

Epic as usual. I only wish the sound had been done differently. The Dubnation stage and the stage next to it were awfully quiet.

I have been in the party scene for the last 16 years and have traveled to 20 cities on two continents. I have been to hole-in-the-wall places in the city of Detroit that has had more atmosphere than the best clubs on Ibiza. With that said I no a good party when I see one but I also believe in supporting you local scene. So I coughed up the $300+ for two VIP tickets so that my wife and I could get the full experience. Now I don't know about the average person that goes to parties nowadays but I remember something called variety. This event had 5 tents and 90% of the DJs played some form of Dub Step. I can understand new music will come along as I get older and I may not like it but I find it impossible to believe both old school and new school DJs are all playing the samething. Bad Boy Bill, a Chicago DJ with over 25 years of DJ experience played a Dub Step set. This is highly disappointing due to the fact that if he is within 100 miles of Chicago its housemusic all night long. Now for the disappointing part of the night. I wanted to see some of the old school talent as it had been awhile but was sorely hurt by the fact that these DJs whoe were going to inject some much needed diversity were all lined up in a room that was to have its sound cut down by a third because it was facing the local police precinct. My wife and I hunted down a promoter and asked why is such world class talent being treated like the new kid on the block. After hearing about the sound consideration for the police we through in the towel and left after 6 hours. I can say this much. I learned my lesson and I will not be going to anymore parties by this promoter or of this size ever again.

MOBY mentioned he had something in common with Jimmi Hendrix, besides a love to Seattle... he said they both had only one top 40, with Hendrix's being "Purple Haze." I shouted at the top of my lungs, "PLAY IT!!" He asked the crowd, "Should I play it?" and when everyone yelled back in the affirmative, Moby launched into an impromptu, SUPER BADASS version of Purple Haze, rocking the house and making the Seattle show totally unique. The two women who work with him are INCREDIBLE also! A REALLY rocking show!! YYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!!!!!

Venue was terrible, no where comfortable to sit or be... the acoustics were terrible and when the performer actually has to tell them to turn it down you know it is bad! As for Moby I am so sorry to say since I am a huge fan, i was greatly disappointed... stick to your roots! As funny as Purple Haze was the rest just left me with a very bad taste in my mouth... I appreciate some branching out, guitar or drums, but when that is all he was doing I got annoyed very quickly... I didn't go see a rock concert I went to see one of the greatest electronic composers of the past 20 years... seeing Moby deny his roots was simply sad, mix some new stuff get creative and make it original, branch out a bit sure but I didn't go to see Pearl Jam or Audioslave I went to go see Moby... obviously others felt the same I saw lots of people leave early... another thing that lady from NY who sang most of Moby's old stuff (not the new softer stuff) she was terrible, you think that in a city as talented as Seattle you could find 20 people who could have done a better job than her in an instant.... I am still a huge Moby fan, just hope he finds his way back to his roots.

For someone labeled as an electronic artist, this man is very talented. It didn't matter what he was doing onstage, guitar, keyboard, bongos, he did it very well. The full band on stage also made it seem like so much more than just a few electronics and a DJ. The vocals done by Kelli Scarr and Inyang Bassey were amazing, and the way that he changed genres on a whim and blended it so well together was truly a sign of a great artist. Definitely worth the while.

After seeing Moby for the first time at a Halloween massive, I was expecting an equally powerful dance experience. I was caught off guard completely by the performenace being primarily rock / accoustic, with only small inclusions of electronic loops. However, it was a very good performance, the singers were amazing and the amount of musical skill that went into constructing it was very impressive.

This was my first time seeing the man of many moods perform as he pulled songs from several decades in a primarily upbeat set. I was curious how he would work in the wide variety of music available in his arsenal but it came off nicely. Mid-tempo songs got some energizing on stage and of course his rave days came out with a bang and rocked the crowd. As a Seattle tribute he played "Purple Haze" Hendrix's only top 40 hit and Southside, Moby's only top 40 back to back. There was also a jam based around "honey" towards the end of the set that was unexpected and great to hear.
