Little Steven Van Zandt plays a 22-song show tracing the history of rock music, from Do-Whop to present day. There are a few references to Bruce Spingsteen and Southside Johnny. A song from Lillehammer made it in to my show. You have Lowell "Banana" Levenger from the Youngbloods beaming on organ and even playing a mandolin. You have great guitarists (Mark Ribler and Little Steven) trading licks. Eddie Manion from the E-Street Horns leads a five-piece horn section including Stan Harrison who was one of the original Asbury Jukes. It is a solid show.

The 2-hour plus set featured songs from Little Steven's most recent excellent "Soulfire" album and tunes from his earlier records. The Disciples of Soul, which features a 5-piece horn section and three backing vocalists, is a terrific band. The George Theater in Staten Island is a lovely venue. The show was a great experience.

Caught Little Steven and his terrific band at the House of Blues in Chicago on October 8. The 15-piece band is tight, talented, and entertaining. And Little Steven showed what a great songwriter he is, as well as demonstrating his social responsibility and conscience. They're playing some dates in Texas and Florida over the next few weeks, then going to Europe, and then probably (hopefully) will be back for more dates in the U.S. Check 'em out if you can. And if you like good, well constructed, classic rock and roll, with some blues, soul, and even some old doo-wop mixed in, buy or download his new CD, "Soulfire," even if you've never heard of Little Steven or any of his stuff. You won't be sorry!

Great Great concert. It is refreshing to see an artist who is comfortable in their skin...playing what they want and having a great time doing it. Consummate professional. Could have listened all night. On a down note the security guard in our section was a little overzealous with people who were taking pictures and recording on their cell phones...I though we were past hassling people over this.

WE COULD SEE THIS WAS A HIGH ENERGY PERSON AND SO WAS HIS BAND BUT THE VOLUME THAT THEY WERE PLAYING AT, WELL WE STUFFED PIECES OF NAPKINS IN OUR EARS. AND...WE WERE NEAR THE BACK OF THE HALL!! THE PERSON ON THE SOUNDBOARD WAS NOT DOING A GOOD JOB BALANCING IT OUT! WE GAVE IT A GOOD TRY BUT ENDED UP LEAVING EARLY...

First time at the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield for a show. Easy parking, accessible, drink prices reasonable, seats at venue (row R, section 2) nice location. Picked those seats, as close enough to see, but far enough back to hear well, not over whelmed by sound. Was not over whelmed by sound, just terrible sound for about 1/3 of the show. Mix was miserable, vocals unintelligible. Feedback(squeal) every so often from mics. After about 5 songs, got better, then much better after another 2 more. Since first time at venue, do not know if it is inherent to the venue site or just lousy sound by act's sound people working the sound board. By far the worse sound at a concert both my wife and I have heard in over 20 years of attending various shows at various venues in and out of town. I could have worked sound board and got better results. So stunned, crossed my mind to leave after first 4 songs, sound was so bad. I did not want to endure a whole set of that. As said, sound did get better, but 1/3 of show was over. Once sound got better, it was a very good show; great band. Which makes it so disappointing, "lost" 1/3 of show. Hate to spend good money on bad sound. Will go back to venue again, but will be wary of getting lousy sound. With technology of today and where it's at, no reason for lousy sound at a concert for more than 1 to 2 songs.

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul are a GREAT night out. Steven is a consummate professional.....and his guitar playing is fire. The band has a solid horn section, 3 cool lady singers, percussion, guitars, etc. Oh.....and BTW.....if I closed my eyes and didn't listen to the vocals, I thought I was listening to Springsteen music. Both Steven and Bruce obviously have the same musical DNA. Little Steven is cool.....and so is this show! Rock and Roll!!!!

Rock n roll at its best! The show started out with Even the Losers, a tribute to the late Tom Petty. The band did a great job on a song they probably didn't rehearse much. Steven has never sounded better and the band was excellent. They played the entire Soulfire album (which I love), as well as standout songs from earlier in his career. The three female backup singers were a nice touch, both from an audio and visual standpoint. Unfortunately, there were a lot of empty seats at this venue, which was a crying shame. Music this good deserves a sold out venue. Fortunately, those of us lucky enough to attend made up for it by our enthusiasm.

The Lyric needs to be restored, but the entertainment was on point. Little Steven and his band rose to the occasion. October 2nd, was one of the most sad days in our country's history, but the "show must go on" and it did. Through his music, he was able to give us a period of peace and hope for the future. Horrible day, but Little Steven and his Disciples of Soul helped us get through it. With love and understanding we will prevail. . . Loved the show and I will see it again if I get the chance.

Loved the concert and the venue was easy- parking right there, food and drink readily accessible and manageable crowd. Only complaint was the sound was not wonderful. Not sure if it was the mixing or the acoustics but often it was hard to hear Steve over the female back up singers and the band. But very high energy and well worth the trip.

What a show. Steven was so alive up on the stage. His voice was nice and clear. The band was terrific, 6 piece horn section added so much. Everett Bradley on percussions added to the sound. The backup singers besides their harmony put on a show of their own dancing to every song in their Tina Turner dresses. I went with my wife and two daughters (28 and 32) and we all loved the show. See him if you can you will be entertained and become a big fan!

I never considered Little Steven as a solo artist. I've seen him a few times with Bruce and was indifferent about his participation. Sure, he slung a decent guitar but his backup vocals never struck me as standing out. As this show was coming up, and after listening to his solo music online, my expectations were raised. Well, he and the Disciples of Soul delivered and now I am an avid fan. This show was everything I hoped it would be and more. Little Steven had 15 musicians on stage that delivered one great song after another running the gamut from Rock to Soul to Blues to Doo Wop and even Funk. His set arrangement had you on your feet for the first hour, then gave you some more introspection and personal stories for the next 30 minutes and then brought you back to your feet for the rest of the show. His 2 hour set, plus a 30 minute encore, including a surprise guest in Peter Wolf with two J. Geils covers was spectacular. Highly recommend for anyone, especially the reluctant pessimist who will surely be converted. Enjoy!

Amazing show, after hearing the warmup/cd release show as broadcast on Sirius/XM's E ST Radio and Underground Garage back around July 4th. Obviously, the Disciples have improved dramatically since July, which stands to reason after 3 months of playing. For me, the show was 35 years in the making, and loved every second of it. I've always been a fan of that classic Asbury Jukes horn sound, which, quite frankly, Southside Johnny hasn't been using for years. Not surprised that the show was not sold out, Steven's music isn't exactly what is popular, but for those of us in E ST Nation, it was all we needed. To close, 2 personal highlights: getting a complimentary seat upgrade from the balcony to 4 rows from the stage in the orchestra; once again, seeing Peter Wolf guest at a show

OMG! Five piece horn section, 3 women backup singers, Little Steven in full headscarf regalia with leather cape looking like he just arrived on the planet from Mars, 2 keyboardists, a percusionist, killer guitar from Marc Ribler - what a great band. Very tight, danceble set, included all the LS hits. Joined on-stage at the end of the set by Boston's own Peter Wolf for J Geils band covers of Lookin' for a Love and Freeze Frame. Unbelievable.

They literally couldn t give tickets away for this show! (Goldstar had comp tix! StubHub had the best seats for about $25 after fees) I paid full price from Ticketmaster for front row. Steve opened with Even the Losers as a tribute to Tom Petty who died a few hours later. Front row may have BEEN to close as my view Steven was partially obstructed by a large TelePrompter in front him. (Kind of disappointing). Musically, he had the difficult task of presenting an overview of his diverse solo work mixed in with covers of some his favorite R&B. So the concert was a bit schizophrenic, musically. From covering Etta James to songs from his politically charged Voice of America album. Thankfully he proclaimed at the beginning it would be a politics-free night ( he did still perform his songs Solidarity , Leonard Pellter and I am a Patriot from that 80 s era) Highlights were Princess of Little Italy from his first solo album and the encore of I don t Wanna Go Home (a minor hit for Southside Johnny he wrote) and the uplifting Out of the Darkness from voice of America .

A great show, by any stretch of the imagination, featured a band of 15 people including Steven. It was powerful. The pacing of the set was flawless as they moved easily from one musical genre to the next. I did think the sound quality was a little muddy, and the 45 minute wait on the sidewalk before entering the venue was annoying, but those are just minor complaints. The evening belonged to Steven and his Soul Disciples.

I've been waiting 30 years to see this band and they delivered. Little Steven is a legit frontman and songwriter playing a history of himself and rock and roll from doo-wop to the Blues to some good old straight ahead rockers. Horn section licks really added to some of the songs like "Bitter Fruit". I hope it isn't another 30 years before he comes back through here!

Steve and his band are amazing but the sound was mixed so poorly you could not understand the lyrics. Steve has things to say so this is important. Being from NYC I have had an affinity for the Jersey sound. Van Zant was a hole in my show attendance. I was not disappointed. Bought Soulfire to reacquaint myself with Little Steven. Steven's voice was never a supple instrument, a little wayward on pitch and limited in expressive range. Those constraints have boxed in farther in the intervening decades since his first tour. That said, he's still a top-notch guitarist. I feels like Sturgill Simpson learned what Steven needs to learn early on. On Simpson's current tour, he's letting his impressive guitar playing move front and center for much of the show. Steven would do well to watch a Sturgill show and learn from it. Overall, while the band hung in there and Steve's performance had its highs and lows, the show was mostly hampered by largely weak material from his new album.

Little Steven and his 15 piece band hit the ground running and never let up in a 2+hr show that delighted fans. Humphrey's was the perfect venue for the evening and the band was tight, energetic and sounded great. Everyone walked out of the show saying they were blown away by the amazing concert Little Steven and the Soul Disciples delivered in San Diego October 18, 2017. Some had flown in from out of state to see the show, some drove down from LA for the better venue, some were Underground Garage Radio show fans, some were longtime Jersey fans - great mix there to see Little Steven's own band perform and walked away impressed and anxious to see them again. The talent in the band was incredible. Mark Ribler's guitar leads, especially when doubling with Steven, among the best. San Diego wants Little Steven back with his Soul Disciples! I Love Steve. I loved the energy of the show. But...... When you've got 15 people in a band in a place as small as the Fillmore I think the sound person has to be a little more on top of things. It was kind of hard to discern what was going on and impossible to understand the lyrics. And no, I'm not an old fart who thinks everything is "too loud" It's just that Steven and the band sometimes forget that everyone doesn't have to be playing every second.
