Eric Clapton

Over the course of his more than 50-year career, guitar legend Eric Clapton has covered an immense amount of ground. Along with dozens of album releases and concerts worldwide, he’s received three Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions — one for his solo career and two more as a member of both Cream and the Yardbirds. He’s also earned an unofficial spot high on the list of best rock guitarists of all time.Though his eponymous solo debut surfaced in 1970, Clapton’s solo career took off in the mid-‘70s with “461 Ocean Boulevard” and its now-ubiquitous single, “I Shot the Sheriff.

Likely one of the best concert experiences that I have had in my lifetime. Eric Clapton has not lost a beat over the past 50 years; still plays and sings as well as ever. Sad if he is not able to continue playing.

Not that anyone was questioning whether it would be a great show or not, but this was an absolutely incredible showcase of musical talent at its best. It was awesome to hear classics played live...this is definitely a concert that will be remembered.

They did an unbelievable performance! There were 4 of us there and we all enjoyed it immensely. The only issue I had was there were 3-4 people 2 rows behind us that kept talking, and rather loudly - I don't know why they bothered going because they weren't listening to the awesome music! I would see them over and over and over again!

Just a great show. I really hate travelling from South Orange County up to the bowl, but it was required for a show of this magnitude. EC, as always, was incredible. It was great to see him with Winwood and they played together throughout the night.

The tickets were way overpriced, and while I wish he played longer, and maybe some more of his heavier songs, we were very satisfied all the same. Such amazing talent as a guitarist and bluesman, such emotion conveyed. And I got to see Steve Gadd on drums!

I loved seeing it all, but my family would have preferred the electric Layla. I wanted Eric to talk to us a bit. Even so much as to apologize for postponing the show from March. In retrospect, he and his band looked tired and ready to go home. But I still loved it all!

My absolute favorite part of the show was when his acoustic set was done and the opening of White Room thundered through out The Forum Monday Night ... I have never felt so alive !

Eric Clapton is a rockstar, and a guitar virtuoso - no doubt. His concert was filled with great performances; vocals (great backup singers), keyboards, bass, drums, etc. What would have made it better would have been another lead guitarist to challenge EC to create an even more impassioned performance. As far as the setlist, there was great material; but leaving out "Sunshine of your love" is a huge faux pas! An no "Motherless Children"! come on!! I love "Layla", but I like the original electric version, not the softy-acoustic version as much. The warmups were great; Jimmy Vaughn presented classic blues, and Gary Clark Jr. is a real find...kinda like "Metallica meets Jimi Hendrix & Jeff Beck". I'm probably nit-picking, but the seats (Chase Preferred in Sect 203) had a great, albeit distant view. The legroom was poor, and other people in my row took to standing or sitting in the steps so they could straighten their legs. The Forum has very good acoustics, but the seating (in the Chase Preferred) is not great.

Eric Clapton is truly a guitar master. Few guitarist are as talented and he did not disappoint on Monday. Although our seats were to the far left of the stage, the sound system was still pretty good. Gary Clark Jr and the other open act were pretty good as well. Construction at the new football stadium has made a mess of the parking around the Forum.

Really good show. Started with Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-A-Whirl Band for a short 40 minute set. Great blues band and he played "Texas Flood" in memory of brother Stevie Ray. Next up was Gary Clark Jr. - This was a slower moving set that was not too engaging. I was disappointed with the song selections and was glad when he was done. The Main Event- Clapton came out on the stage solo and strapped on his stratocastor while the remainder of the band ambled out in the following minutes. The set list was a collection of songs from most of his previous bands and solo performances that highlighted a 50 year career. Best electric song was Cream's "White Room" and best acoustic set song was "Tears in Heaven". Drawbacks- I don't like the acoustic version od "Layla" and I wish that he would have included "Sunshine of your Love" in the electric set like he did in New York. If these are his last shows I'm glad to have attended. If there are more next year you bet I will be there again !!!!!

I have seen Eric Clapton multiple times over the years and each time has been a magical experience of classic rock music by a guitar legend. I feel very fortunate to have attended this amazing performance at The Forum for "A Celebration of 50 Years." I went to the forum in the old days and did not like the sound quality and was hesitant that the changes wouldn't have been enough. I was surprised. The seats we had were in the Loge level and were very good. I didn't need my binoculars. The sound quality was good. Clapton can still play that guitar despite his medical concerns! Way to overcome difficulties. I was impressed and he gave me hope to continue on. Gary Clarke Jr is phenomenal. If you have the chance to see him live...DO IT! He is truly impressive!

Seeing Eric Clapton was definitely on my bucket list, as was seeing The Forum. Clapton hasn't lost his touch. His talent is second to none. I only wish he would have addressed the crowd, as the original show was scheduled six months ago and was cancelled due to Clapton being diagnosed with severe bronchitis. Many people such as myself traveled a long way to see him...twice. Other than that I would definitely see him again if given the chance. Gary Clark, Jr and Jimmie Vaughan were great as well!

I've attended about 20 Clapton concerts over the years. I try never to miss him when scheduled in NY/NJ area. Nobody can play guitar with such clarity, speed and sound. His ability to ad lib a solo is absolutely amazing. He lives up to his motto "every time you pick up your guitar, play like its the last time". At 72 years of age, he is truly the best guitar artist who ever lived. He doesn't use body movements to look like he's squeezing out a solo. He just closes his eyes, looks up to the heavens and plays like it's his last time. God bless Eric Clapton.

So. saw Eric last night, another special night, but this one would be different. This was the last time I would see him live. We began our pilgrimage by taking the 7 to GCS and a walk to The Gingerman, for a cocktail and apps, if you've never been to the Gingerman, GO! There's tons of great beers, specialty drinks, good food, friendly bartenders, servers and happy-go-lucky imbibing patrons, not to mention, this place may very well deserve landmark status, if it isn't already, huge ceilings, posters, stained glass; nostalgia written all over it. The bar has some neat turns too and the wood work is beautiful, anyway back to the show... Opening for Mr. Clapton was Jimmy Vaughn, brother of the late Stevie, with a great horn section, and a serious Hammond B3 in the lineup, Jimmy tore through some great, fun moving blues, including the classic SRV Texas Flood, with a call out to the families in Houston, what a treat that was. Next up was Gary Clark Jr. whose voice infused tones of James Dewar (Robin Trower fame) and Lenny Kravitz, and with diving guitar bursts that set up the perfect storm for Eric to ride through. We had decent seats middle back upper, but thought to take a walk up to the new bridge, which was higher in the Garden, but much closer and right on top of the front side of the arena with a clear view of the stairway where Eric would enter, and some great bar stools and a table top, we decided this would be a great place to set up shop. Since I wasn't really there for the music, great as it was, I knew he couldn't match my imagination of the original work, but just seeing him again, live, and realizing these might possibly be his last performances, but who knows, and having a full unabashed fawning, and devout love for the breadth of his portfolio, his life ,his setbacks, and comebacks, just being there in the presence of thousands of admiring onlookers meant everything to me; I had to be there for much more self-identifying reasons, I've known him, through his music, almost all of my life, and it was all I needed, like one of those, you had to be there, moments, possibly the final, For anyone who knows what it's like, they'd get it...Everyone has someone or something that creates that emotive bond, Eric is mine, the only way I can put it is familial, I know this guy very well.. The lights dimmed, he appeared in the lit stairway, eyes fixed, I m a kid again. He stepped up, stage left arrows, walked out in denim, clean, matured, a casual wave to roars of the adoring, lights down, set complete, the band settles in, and what seemed an often-common moment, slipping into his Strat, draped below his shoulders so naturally there was no separation of instrument and person, the two were one, dependent on each another; youthful again, it s on, like I said earlier, you just had to be there. Our evening was devoted to observation, reminiscence, sorrow, joy and appreciation. As usual, we made several passing friends throughout, you go with your energy and good things usually happen. Our evening was a privilege, an honor to be so interconnected to someone who is so interconnected to his craft. And so, the walk back after an experience like that is filled with, well, gratitude. That s what Eric Clapton does for me.

Eric Clapton was amazing. He played what I wanted to hear and sounded incredible doing so. Our seats were in section 213 row 3, ride by the side of the stage. We paid almost $500 for 2 tickets and figured they'd be good seats. The sound was great from our seats and they would have been great seats if not for the screen that blocked our view of all of Eric Clapton except his feet. If he was a tap dancer I may not have been upset but I paid to watch and hear him play guitar and sing and couldn't do that. There was no mention of an obstructed view on our tickets and looking around I realized that everyone in our section was as upset as my girlfriend and I. The ushers were understanding and told us we could move, unfortunately with it being a sold out show the only place we could go was standing room at the top of Madison Square Garden. The sound isn't great up there because the bridges muffle it but at least we could see the speck that was Eric Clapton on stage. Do not buy seats in section 213 but do go see Eric Clapton if you ever have the chance.

Many people are saying this is Eric's last Go around, but after tonight I believe that we will still see him play at various events such as Crossroads festival. Tonight's performance, albeit on the shorter side, included many of the hits and some gems. What is interesting is what he did not play (Pretending - always the best song in the set). I was surprised he didn't have another guitar player with him and chose the one guitar set up, but who can argue? It's Clapton.

Eric Clapton and his band were in fine form. They played a nice mix of Clapton's hit songs and classic blues tunes. "Badge" got the audience cheering early in the show. There were many crowd favorites, including an uptempo "I Shot the Sheriff", an acoustic "Layla", and a new rendition of "Crossroads" with a heavy delta blues rhythm. His singing was strong, and two outstanding female backup singers added harmony and richness to the vocals. Great instrumental playing by the entire band, with Clapton delivering several guitar solos in his signature style. On both electric and acoustic guitar, he demonstrated his mastery of the instrument. He is a key innovator of blues rock guitar, and has inspired many guitarists over the decades. It was wonderful to see him performing live again.

From the moment Eric Clapton walked on stage the entire venue was filled with magic. Never before, never again will a man and music become one as they do through Eric Clapton. His presence, his ease, his fluidity made his performance feel as if he was playing just for you. For his birthday, he gracefully shared the stage with Jimmy Vaugh, John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall. All amazing musicians, who Mr.Clapton managed to spotlight and appreciate as much as his fans appreciated him.. One goes to see Slow Hand for his musical prowess. He channels the heart, talent and the soul of every blues musician before him creating a once in a lifetime experience for all who bear witness.

Eric Clapton put on a spectacular show featuring an array of talented artists! He is still Remarkable at 70 years old with his fusion of blues, jazz and rock 'n roll! I've seen him a few times before but this night had a unique vibe! Eric memorized the fans with his "very cool" electric & acoustic melodies from his early days to more recent tunes! My first time ever at the Madison Square Garden. Eric played for a little over two hours. This was an experience I will most likely never forget. To think it was to celebrate his birthday... It felt more like christmas and my birthday all wrapped into one day. He played all my favorite songs except River of Tears, but that doesn't even really matter. His performance was up to his normal wonderful guitar playing. The show was short - because of weather - but the experience of listening to him play was outstanding. I was disappointed that he dropped Gin House - since I've never heard it before. But Clapton is Clapton - and there is really no one finer. The "local" band - his neighbors and friends from his neighbor - was tight - and exceptional. It was a fine evening - no disappointments from this performance at all. Our 22nd time of seeing him play live...

Beautiful venue, although the location of food and beverage sales was poorly placed, making it difficult at best to navigate the crowds. It's an outdoor amphitheater, so the seats are hard and cold. This was my first concert at Mud Island...I was initially concerned about the sound quality, but for the most part (from my seat), it was decent. Had it been a warmer evening, the show would have been more enjoyable. Granted it's Clapton, so it was still a good show regardless of weather and seating. Would have been nice if he had done more than just one song for the encore. That song ended and he was out of there, saw his car drive away when we were still applauding him. Having seen him perform before, this was a step down from what I expected. ZZ Ward opened for him, really enjoyable performance!

I saw Clapton before at the old Mellon arena in Pittsburgh 3 years ago. It was an incredible show and the seats were side stage but on the second tier. Compared to that concert though, this one beat it by the end of the first song! The new arena is luxurious and very visitor friendly. And, Clapton and his band were at their absolute best! The energy of the blues was felt throughout the whole venue. I sat side stage again but on the first tier. His music compared to 2010 was so much more soulful and intense. The ripping solos on the Strat were bone-chilling, and the soft tone of the acoustic were mellow and passionate. He held back nothing, playing two songs I never thought I'd ever hear him play live: Layla (unplugged) and Tears in Heaven. He spread around the wealth by letting others take solos and singing roles for several songs, but he was still in the limelight for the majority of the show. As a blues, metal, and rock fan who just saw Metallica for two nights over the summer, I can say that Eric Clapton and his band clearly eclipsed that show for my most amazing musical experience of my life!

He started by playing a song with the Wallflowers. As he eased into his set with songs from now and the past 40+ years it was wonderful to watch him play. Alone on the stage, sitting in a chair with an acoustic guitar he played our favorites. Thank you Eric Clapton

Back in December 2012, when the tour and dates were announced, I was ecstatic to find out Mr Clapton and Co. along with the Wallflowers, would be making the rounds. This particular evening got off great, with Messers Dylan, Jaffe and company opening up the show! The drummer for the Wallies was JACK IRON, who, in case you didn't know is the ORIGINAL drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Jakob ran down their set which was filled with nic slide guitar work from guitarist _______, I just can't come up with his name right now. Dylan has the unenviable task of performing in his father's wake, and many Clapton fans are also hardcore Bob Dylan fans, as the two collaborated quite frequently in the 70s. So we got all of the great stuff from the blockbuster album Bringing Down the Horse, as well as other good uptempo numbers. The sound for this band was a little murky, not their fault, just the occupational hazards of being the opening act! So by the time they got to "One Headlight" and "The Difference" the crowd was almost to capacity and the group played it real loose and fun. Great opening act. Mr Clapton 's set started with the lovely hit "Hello Old Friend" from 1976's album No Reason to Cry. He played a Martin D model, maybe a 28 or 35. The lilting clean electric lines were provided by the lap and pedal steel guitarist, whose parts were very integral throughout the night. We then progressed through some great but standard fare from EC, with him strapping on his Gunmetal colored Strat to kick things up a notch. His band and backing vocals were very tight, and of course Doyle Bramhall III who plays a right-handed guitar upside down in the true sense of the method (with the heavy woven strings at bottom of neck) took a lot of the famous hooks from songs like wonderful tonight and other Greatest Hits type offerings. Eric would build up the set in waves of intensity by playing some hot blusey and rock songs, mostly from his mid 70's and Robert Johnson homage periods. Then he would bring it down a nothc with some lovely acoustic work on "Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out) and then a slightly uptempo version of Tears in Heaven with a reggae flavored guitar accenting the upbeat, which added a happy and celebratory demeanor to this very deep and personal song. It was amazing. He brought out one Dominos song, Tell the Truth, which was a staple of his live shows in the 70s. It's a great hard hitting number with a bit of a message, great slide work by the lap player and leads from bot Eric And DBIII. Its key change is always fun to hear. Black Cat Bone, from his new album Old Sock was fun, and in the same vein but with much more power was "Got To Get Better in A Little While." This one had a great muted wah (Dunlop Cry Baby) intro and had great production value with the lights and monitors really making you feel as if you were watching the show on DVD, but just happened to be at the gig! It was great. The sound and tones from all the players were not overly compressed or distorted, and Clap used his trusty Strats throughout. His Strats were the ones set up with the 25dB boost and Noisless pick-ups, run through an old Fender Princeton and possibly a Vibro Champ. Great and loud, but not deafening. No banter with the crowd as usual, which is totally fine by me, as I came to hear this man and his group play music, not do ten minutes of stand up and tell us how great it is to be in Charlotte. The man has a ten million dollar yacht that he sails to the French Riviera for pete's sake! Charlotte is nice, but I doubt the Westin or is comparable! The encore wa pretty much a done deal, with a feedback-induced beginning of Sunshine Of Your Love, which Eric Played pretty close to the vest and shared the vocal changes with Bramhall. Steve Jordan did not try to copy Ginger Baker, as such a task is impossible, but played his own whopping, upside down American Indian sounding drum part on this song. That drum beat is one of the most recognizable and significant rhythms of all of rock/blues/jazz! And he did his own take while staying true to the original and requisite time and meter of the song. He is a phenomenal drummer> All in all a great concert. Probably aimed more at true EC fans than the casual cat that wants him to play The Cream of Clapton greatest hits from beginning to end. Ok, the fun part: Eric had enlisted a guy called Paul Carack to play organ and keys. Paul Carack is a famous singer and frontman in his won right. He is best known for two monster hits from the late 70's and early 80's. The 70s thing is the song "How Long" by Ace, which he fronted and sang . Eric and his players gave this number to Paul who played it and sang it. His voice is still golden, and i thought I was in 70's one-hit-wonder heaven as this is one of my faves from the 70's. And to have the greatest guitar player of all time play on one of my favorite one off numbers was like an awesome, totally unexpected mind-melting event! It was great and added some spice! The other song given to Paul was "Tempted" which he sang with the very popular UK group called Squeeze. So it was like A Clapton show with a mini two hit parade by a truly talented guy> And Eric played great with this framework! I wanted to hear "Badge" but didn't get to. I knew he was doing it at some shows, but oh well. Great night all around. Go if you can. This artist is nearing 70, and has no need to continue touring. I'm 33 and have been a fan since I was about 13. Ive seen him four times from 95-13 with great seats almost every time. So check it out. And listen to some of his recent Robert Johnson work to have a pre-conceived appreciation for what he is doing. It kills me when clueless people heade for the bathrooms when he plays anything other than a Greatest Hit! Bravo, Slowhand! Your talents are incredible....a truly immortal performer!!!

My husband, son, and I saw Eric Clapton at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC on 4-3-13. The show was incredible. We had floor seats that were pretty close to the stage so we felt like we could almost interact with what was going on onstage!! Eric and the band are so talented and the show flowed so smoothly. The singers had amazing voices also. Eric is my absolute favorite guitar player, and he still sings in perfect tune at his 68 yrs of age. I have another wonderful memory to add to our families moments together!!

Great concert! It's been years since I've seen Clapton. First saw him in the 70's. He's mellowed some since then but so have we. Enjoyed hearing the classics as well as the Blues. Wished he would have played "I Shot the Sheriff".

Clapton seems to really enjoy playing. His band is also talented, right down to the back up singers. He played for over 2 hours. 21 songs in total. Starts on time. Doesn't waste time between songs. A true professional that values our time and dollars. Love watching and hearing him play. Not all sorts of jumping around, just good quality music

Clapton's got it goin' on! Now more than ever! He's an amazing guitar player. Vocals were great with the 2 female backup singers. The audio quality couldn't have been better. His choices in the songs he performed was perfect and all across the board. Paul Carrick was a great surprise on keyboards. And the opening band, The Wallflowers with Jakob Dylan were also great. I've always wanted to see them as well. I highly recommend seeing Clapton sometime in your life. I would go to this show again in a heartbeat!!

The concert was good, but didn't have the amount of excitement I was anticipating. There was more standing around and singing than moving around and singing. I enjoyed hearing the oldies and the new songs. However, everyone in the audience was screaming for EC to play Layla which he never did. Maybe his voice couldn't hit the higher notes required. On the way out of the arena, everyone was talking about how disappointed they were that he didn't play Layla. I share that disappointment. Layla is legendary and he should have played it!!!

I'll just get it out there : he didn't play "Layla," and I was disappointed. That's the only reason I'm not giving this show 5 stars, even though I recognize that he has no obligation to play "Layla" at every concert. But with the band he had assembled for this tour, it was really a shame not to dig in to this super-hit. In fact, the section I was sitting in actually booed because he exited the Arena without playing "Layla." Still, this notable absence notwithstanding, the show was fantastic. He played a little dab of everything, from Derek & the Dominoes to Cream to the more mature, emotional stuff of the 1990s ("Tears in Heaven" and "Wonderful Tonight"). He also played some classic blues and even an oooooooooollld country song !, "Goodnight Irene," which was quite a surprise. And he nailed it all. Clapton greeted the audience with "Hello Old Friend," and that's just how it felt to be in the New Orleans Arena on Saturday night : like you were sharing a couple hours with a comfortably fabulous lifetime acquaintance who somehow manages to keep surprising you. Great concert, with typical tremendous Clapton soloing on acoustic and electric guitars, plus the keyboard wizardry of Paul Carrack (he played Squeeze's "Tempted," as well as Ace's "How Long" and Joe Cocker's "High Time We Went"), the amazing guitar work of Doyle Bramhall II, and the steel pedal of Greg Leisz. As the local newspaper pointed out, turning over 3 of the songs to Carrack may have been on the extreme side, but they were not disappointing, and Carrack on the keyboard alone is something I'd have paid to see. "I Shot the Sheriff" afforded Clapton the opportunity to explode in a mournful, cadenced solo that started slow and then burned with dark rage as the chords progressed. It was wonderful. "Got to Get Better in a Little While" felt like an anthem to previous Clapton shows (perhaps a wink to the audience that was here three years ago when he blew through the setlist like a minor hurricane, leaving everything topsy-turvy and empty-feeling). "Cocaine" closed the setlist before the encores, and had everyone on their feet stomping and singing and cheering. I'm not a Clapton fanatic have always liked his stuff without really *knowing* it. I bought these tickets as a Christmas present for my boyfriend and so went into the concert with just the hope that it would live up to his expectations and excitement about his favorite guitarist. I mention this because after leaving the show, the first thing I did was go download a whole bunch of Clapton from iTunes. He put on such a great show that he made me want to know his work better. It wouldn't be fair to review this concert without mentioning the opening act. The Wallflowers put on a great if subdued; I mean, how do you open for Clapton??? show, and made me regret that they only got about 45 minutes to play. They did their big hits, "1-2-3 Marlenas" and "One Headlight," plus a few other songs I hadn't realized were by them, and a new number, "Love is a Country," that likewise sent me to iTunes right away when they left the stage. They were note-perfect and friendly with the unfortunately anemic crowd, and my only criticism is that they sounded just like their songs on the radio. With the talent they had onstage, they could certainly have improvised a few things or taken some risks. All in all, it was a great concert, and now we're looking forward to Clapton's next visit to the South hope he brings his whole band, including "Layla" !!

Clapton is God, A familiar phrase to many. His concert on March 23, 2013 proved exactly that! Eric came out in style and for 2 hours sent electric goodness through the air that moved the soul and rocked the body! From his opening song Old Friend, he held the audience in his hand seemingly knowing exactly what notes to hit to make them Scream and jump in appraisal. However, not only Clapton rocked, but his entire band! The opening act the Wallflowers were great too. However, Eric and his band Delivered a flawless show playing all his classics (except Layla, which cocaine substituted for in equal enjoyment). I can almost guarantee that every fan left the stadium thinking "it was absolutely 'Wonderful Tonight'!"

If you even remotely like Eric Clapton or his style of music, you will not be disappointed in this concert. How often do you get a chance to see a LIVING LEGEND. His skill and voice have not wavered with age - he's still an incredible musician. I saw him 20 years ago and he's more incredible to see in concert than ever! Pretty cool to see the Wallflowers, too. I've seen Bob Dylan in concert - now I can round out my Dylan family after seeing Jakob play some songs I've love for many years. Worth every penny.

He and his band put on a great show. Eric Clapton is timeless. Just classic Clapton. No light show, no set changes, just guitar changes. The only thing that was bit on the down side was the lead guitar played quite a few famous slow-hand guitar jams instead of Eric. Doug Bremhall was equal to Clapton licks, but it was not the man playing himself. They all did him proud, don't get me wrong. When the man jam himself...it was awesome!!.
