I enjoyed the way he addressed the audience. His performance was impeccable. Although the sound system did not fully helped his band, they played so intense and with the feeling that reached all of us in the auditorium.

Great musical performances makes for great memories and this show at the bowl was among this summer's greatest of all. Latin Jazz all star big band led by a legendary virtuoso has never been performed better or in a more exciting way. Major surprise guest artists such as the Natalie Cole, the Gypsy Kings and Andy Garcia all contributed to making this a most special event. Cuban legends Buena Vista Social Club brought us all the way back to a bygone era when old world naturally gifted musicians made real music that resonates at some core primal level that just can't be found anywhere else in the world today.

The performance was enthralling and the talent displayed was exceptional. He was a fascinating Jazz musician with so much enthusiasm. He and his band were worth every penny. The theater offered a lovely indoor setting with acoustic balance. Eventually, the theater may consider permanent seating. This would probably detour the more rock and roll performances, as the chairs would not be collapsible and the open space for moshing, eliminated. I would love to see similar performers in this lovely venue in the future.

Arturo is a genius mucisian. His versality, ability to play the melody and his harmonizing technique makes him one of the great Jazz mucians of our country. Although he sacrifices accuracy of low/high notes to prove his ability his style and musicality is unique. Bravo a thousand times!

A collection of uniquely gifted artists- - teamed to amaze and delight. We have previously seen and heard Arturo's special latin trumpet skills (including a wider playing range than anyone sporting an embouchure) but he now demonstrates his considerable keyboard skills and interesting vocals. The woodwind and percussion artists are truly not to be believed and electronic base and keyboard talents are also outstanding. Don't miss this collection while they are still together!

What an amazing performer. We knew he was great, but didn't realize the versatility with all the varied instruments he plays. We were surprised he sang too! And the Cuban rap was cool as well. His group of musicians are equally talented performers and we enjoyed his spotlighting each of them. Adelante Arturo!

Arturo Sandoval continues to entertain without any sign of aging. He bonds with his audience, besides giving superb performances with multiple instruments. The Dizzy roots are unmistakable. The only negatives probably relate to the concert hall (a converted church), where the accoustics made the sounds of the keyboard especially difficult to fully enjoy -- I can't term it reverberation, but rather, just intense verberation. And, I would have liked a printed program. The program was nicely varied and covered the range of Mr. Sandoval's discology -- bop, fusion, ballads, afro-cuban -- as well as could be in 90 minutes (plus a 15 minute encore).

Saturday, the 28th of August was a wonderful experience. From the time I got out of my car to the time I got back in it after the show, I was treated well. The venue is a great place to see a show. The people, from the young explorers to people inside the venue were pleasant and helpful. When leaving they thanked people for attending. Conga Bop was wonderful and I was delighted to find out at the end that many of the musicians were local and part of the Hartt School of Music. I had never seen Arturo live before. The music was fantastic and Arturo is quite a showman. His energy was contagious and the crowd responded to it as did the other musicians. I would definately return to that venue to see other performances. It's a wonderful place to see a show. And if they brought Arturo back, I would love to see him again as well. Thanks for the great evening.

My spouse and I have been fans of Arturo Sandoval for many years. His smooth approach to any given audience, and his latin flare is soothing at times, but always uplifting and entertaining. The venue at Summer Winds is quaint and serene and depending on who the artist is, for a more consevative group... we've attended several shows at Summer Winds in the past, and we've never been disapponted... Arturo rocked!!

Arturo Sandoval and his combo performed an awesome concert in Orlando at the Plaza Theater. Such a great little theater with the best acoustics in Orlando by far and away! He performs trumpet, synth, piano, percussion and sings with such high quality and again has the best combo with him - one certainly of matching his style and improv!

I have seen Arturo in five different venues from Miami to Boston. I don't know what took Orlando so long and why this show was not sold out. The seats at the Plaza Theatre were not very comfortable in Orchestra seating. My guest stated that when she was there previously at a Poco concert that the seat was very uncomfortable.

Listening to Arturo Sandoval live is a rare treat. In addition to his dramatic personal story, he brought an amazing depth of talent to the Northridge stage. This concert was billed s a tribute to his hero, mentor and friend, Dizzy Gillespie. Sandoval's opening number on trumpet began with his quartet, and ended with his surprising skillful and playful vocalization. Sandoval radiated energy and joy, while he and his band played with soul and and heat - unforgettable! Sandoval played the trumpet, the piano, the drums, and brought along his friend, Andy Garcia, to play congas. The only weak spot in the evening's performance (and the reason I gave this concert only 4 stars) was the pitchy female vocalist after the intermission. I felt as though she was not only not adding to the performance, but stealing time that I could have spent listening to Sandoval and his band. The encore performance of "Night in Tunisia" was hot!

I've seen Arturo a few times in different venues. The VPAC was one of the largest venues I've seen him in. The venue is amazing and the sound was great! There was one issue... My seats were changed from the front row on the balcony to somewhere in the loge section. This was unfortunate because I was sitting towards the back and off to the side. They claimed there were "upgrades" but I didn't consider it.

We were not fans of Latin jazz, but went along open mined-this show did nothing to convince us. The opening act was rambling and self-indulgent, but things picked up with Arturo Sandoval- his set has some swing and punch to it. The Orquesta started off well enough, and the current female lead had just finished a song when Omara Portuondo came on. Knowing nothing about her , her singing was very weak, and really the rest of the show was for fans only. Very disappointing. LA bowl was great though- part of the reason we went.

I knew I was in for a good night of music when I got my tickets but I was so incredibly surprised at how much I'd underestimated the living legend factor. Arturo Sandoval's set was totally on point! It included a performance by Natalie Cole who joined for 2 sultry songs, the Gypsy Singers for 2 explosive numbers and Andy Garcia (who took a little bongo solo and can actually play) sat in on percussion the entire set. I was all warmed up when Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club walked out like the coolest old school cats ever (instead of doing the glitzy turn of the stage entrance). I knew by the swagger they were going to put it down, and they absolutely did! I'm now embarrassed to say, I didn't know who Omara Portuondo was because after seeing her barefoot entrance/performance and hearing her flawless voice, I put her into the Celia Cruz family without a second thought. AMAZING show - beautiful venue ... GREAT TIME!! If you have a chance to catch a show - DO you won't regret it!!

We were in Los Angeles for the week and picked the most interesting concert on the calendar to match our tastes. By chance, it worked out perfectly since we just happened to see the Cuba photography exhibit at the Getty Center earlier in the week. We really enjoyed the music and the venue. I always like bands that utilize many instruments such as jazz ensembles and bands. The Hollywood Bowl really allowed them to showcase their talents. We also loved the venue since we could take a picnic dinner and enjoy it before the show in our seats.

This was the third time I saw the Buena Vista Social Club perform live, and unfortunately, some of the senior greats have passed on. That being said, inimitable vocalist Omara Portuando and her husband Barbarito Torres were superb, defying time and place. Also commendable were the much younger pianist and lead male vocalist, whose identities I do not know. Classic musica cubana, passsionately performed, outdoors in the magical Hollywood Bowl, nearly transported us to a casa de la trova.

What a night of music! From start to finish all acts were special BUT the set with Arturo Sandoval and the L.A. Big Band was tops in my book. The percussion section had a guest appearance by Andy Garcia, the actor. Who knew he could rock the house with his bongo solo. The horn section was top notch. Although Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club was entertaining, I was looking forward to a more substantial set with Omara Portuondo.

It was an evening of unbridled passion & rhythm. I think all 17,376 seats were filled. Opening act Stephon Harris and Ninety Miles provided the kindling for a night of hot salsa. They played the count-onable, old-time rhythm with modern jazz sounds. Excellent! Following that was Arturo Sandoval and his big band - an ensemble of L.A.'s best jazzers with a fine percussion section. There's nothin' like a big band rockin' away with a first-rate trumpet man like Arturo Sandoval letting the band do its thing and adding his great solos into the mix. Shades of Dizzy Gillespie. Squarely placed in the rhythm section was actor and premiere bongoist Andy Garcia. Although he is a fine & well paid actor, I think his heart truly lies in El Ritmo. There was a surprise walk-on by Natalie Cole who sang 2 of her father's famous tunes with the band. Primo! After the intermission, BVSC walked out to thunderous applause. They were so "in the zone" and the audience was blissed out. This music IS in their breath & their blood. Looking toward the stage, I'd never seen so many audience shoulders swaying to the rhythm - there was more seismic activity in the stands than last week's East Coast earthquake. People were clapping; people were singing along; people were dancing in their seats. It was beyond joyous. They closed the show with MY favorite song, El Cuarto De Tula...and the crowd went wild...as did I.

Wow - not only did we revel in the musica Cubano jazz fest, but we were honored with Natalie Cole and Andy Garcia - both excellent in their craft. Omarao and the band were outstanding - keeping us caught up in the swaying music. We brought empanadas and black beans and drank red wine, setting the mood for our evening of Cuban rhythms. The crowd was congenial and expansive, sharing commentary about the performers and their skill. What a great night we had!! Looking forward to thier next performance. I've been to a lot of music concerts throughout my 59 years on the planet and I can't recall any that received more applause, whistles and shoutouts for the many talents and emotionally charged music continually displayed throughout the concert than this concert by the Master Impresario of Entertainment Arturo Sandoval. Sandoval gives more than he receives and keeps on giving. Sandoval played not only his stock-in-trade mesmerizing trumpet but also the piano, moog synthesizer and snare drum/cymbal/cowbell all with equal perfection and sensitivity, backed by some of the finest talent this listener has ever heard, all of whom measured up to their leader's best. Oh, and did I say, Smile, Arturo knows how to sing too. Set list programmed to keep you listening, always wondering what next. The consummate musician and entertainer--Arturo Sandoval. First the good- Arturo Sandoval is a wonderful performer and a great musician, and put on a lively and entertaining show. Nothing in the review to follow should reflect on him in any way, but... The bad- first of all, who at the VA Arts Fest thought it was a good idea to put a 9-time Grammy winner in the ballroom of a conventional center? Surely there was someplace else in Williamsburg (College of WM, maybe) that had a venue. Pretty cheesy and unprofessional, but could be overlooked, except for the few fools in the crowd who essentially heckled the performer throughout the show. Why one guy in particular wasn't tossed is a mystery, and reflects again on the venue and sponsor. Arturo cleared was bothered by all the noise. Want to know why there was no encore? Well, there you go. VA Arts Fest will be getting the same email.

This was a present for my boyfriend who has played trumpet for over 6 years and he was totally amazed. Sandoval is such a talented musician. He was born to do what he does and it shows. Anyone who has the chance to see him should go without thinking twice about it:) i would go see him a million times if possible.

Wow, is that photo old. Amazing playing from Arturo and company as always! His energy and enthusiasm are infectious. Wildest version of Night In Tunisia I've ever heard. Loved his story about coming to America to, among other things, learn perfect English. I was seated in the second row of the loges near the center and the sound was very uneven. Way too much bass drum, not enough bass guitar. Most solos weren't brought up until a few bars into them and then too much. Couldn't hear the sax section at all when the brass was playing. Guest singer, Becky Martin sounded harsh and piercing at times. I expected better sound from such a new facility. But the poor mix was secondary to all the great music and musicians. Fun to see Andy Garcia on bongos. Wish the program had listed the band members. Come on VPAC, that's standard procedure. Give credit where it's due. So all in all, I loved Arturo and the band, but the venue needs to work the kinks out. Can't wait for the upcoming album tribute to Diz!
