Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Based in New York, the post-punk/garage rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs consists of Karen O (vocals), Brian Chase (drums) and Nicolas Zinner (guitar). The trio released their self-titled debut EP in 2001—featuring angry yet sexy vocals and equally fierce guitar work and drumming. As fans awaited the band's first full-length album, Yeah Yeah Yeahs released a second super-charged EP, Machine, in 2002. After much anticipation, Fever to Tell, the band's debut full-length, appeared in 2003 and featured a range of songs, from ballads to high-energy punk tracks.

So if you don't like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs then I think you need to listen to Gold Lion. I loved this concert. The stage has no barrier so you're right there and Karen O high fived me because I has my face painted for the show. It was one if the best shows I've ever seen. I loved that night and remember every moment. The venue was so nice too! And what I loved was that the food and drink prices were great! If you go to as many concerts as I do you know that most venues charge way too much for drinks.

this was my 8 times seeing the Yeahs, it was one of less favorite, the band seemed to just run through the set list with not much excitement. The last show at the Riv was amazing, Nicks hands were bloody from playing so hard. Overall is was a 3 star. cheers Marc

The show got moved to an outdoor stage, which sucked because it was pouring rain and the grass turned to complete mud under the feet of a thousand hipster Columbusonians. But I enjoyed the mix of their old songs plus the stuff from their new album. Starting off the show with "Runaway" was actually a nice surprise. When you half expect Karen O. to kick things off by chewing up the microphone and spitting the partially digested remnants into the audience, she emerges in an ethereal kimono and croons out the simple and sweet lyrics of "Runaway." Of course, she then rips the kimono off to reveal an all-over sequined bodysuit and lime green tights with combat boots. Great band, but they hardly played at all. They were pretty much done by 11:30, which was quite earlier than expected and a bit lame.. Oh, and there was a giant eyeball prop on the stage.

Not only did the YYY's release of It's Blitz! be the best album we hear in 2009 they produce quite a show. I personally go to 15-20 shows a year and the YYY's are hands down the best show I have ever been to. Stage set up was fantastic. Good crowd.

I loved every minute of it. I have been waiting to see this band for the past 5 years and it was definitely worth the wait. They played songs from their newest album and even sang ones from their first. I couldn't believe this was the first time in Columbus. The only issue that seemed to happen during the show was that their monitor system might of not worked for a little while. The lead singer had to stop the song a couple of times because she couldn't hear the guitar beat. All in all they looked good, they sounded great.

great to see Karen O leading beefed up band at the Aragon Ballroom. Karen is a charismatic leader whose dares you to take your eyes off her. Guitarist Nick Zinner continues to explore sonic landscape while drummer Brian Chase keeps the time effortlessly additional guitar work from David Pajo only adds to the excitement. The highlight of the show was their cover of the Cramps "Human Fly"

Show was great. Karen O was decked out in some pretty amazing outfits - and, more importantly, she rocked the house. Would have liked to hear more tunes from Fever To Tell, but new stuff sounded great live. For those disappointed with new album because of the dance beats, no worries. You'll love it once you've seen the songs live. My only complaint about the show was the venue - Beaumont Club in KC - couldn't see the performers on stage from most angles in the club - have to be standing directly in front to see well. And this is a show where you want to see AND hear the whole thing.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs performing at the LC Pavillion was one of the best shows I've been to all year. Everything was completely on-point: the stage set look AMAZING, with the lights and decorations as all, and Karen Oh was so splendidly energetic and incredible throughout the entire performance. The whole band sounded so great and I was happy to hear them play a few older hits as well.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs sounded great, but because of all of the underage drunk kids that were allowed to be admitted, with it being an 18+ plus general admission show, I could only stand to stay for 2 songs before I had been knocked down numerous times. I would go see them again, just not in this venue, was definitely a waste of my money.

I absolutely love this type of music, trouble is most local radio stations don't play it with the exception of my fave 96.5 the Buzz, thank you, thank you! The recent Yeah Yeah Yeahs concert did not disappoint in terms of sound and performance. They sound as great perhaps even better in person which fans have to appreciate. The venue however was too small for this act, the place was packed and some of the concert goers were crowded which made them a little cranky and rude. Other than that a great experience!

This was an amazing show. I have been wanting to see the YYY's for a long time now and I was not disappointed. They were really fun and Karen O was rocking as usual!! The ballroom was really pretty and there was even a beer girl that walked around to serve drinks so we didn't have to miss anything or give our spots up. I just wish I wasn't so short b/c I always have troubles with tall people standing in front of me and then I get angry...grrrr... Go see these guys if you get a chance! You will not regret it. I had a good time hanging with friends. Overall i would say the preforms was pretty good , they sang a mixure of new and old. The lead singer was very enternting to watch, she was alway doing something. I had heard from other people that had been to the yeah yeah yeahs concert that the lead singer goes a bit crazy on stage....but this time i wouldn't say it was too crazy, it was just right. They preformed very well, it almost sounded like it came stright off the cd.

First let's get one thing straight, this show was at the LC and NOT Newport due to size constraints on the laters max occupancy. The venue change was perfect! I had always wanted to see YYY's and to have them play at my favorite outdoor venue was just simply amazing. It rained a bit before the opener came on and then Brian came out and talked to some of us along the rail. He is a super nice guy and it was really cool of him to come out and check up on us. The opening act was actually the guy who played keyboard for the YYY's touring band. He came out, claimed he was from Columbus (which he isn't) and played really slow covers of The Misfits songs. It was bad, really bad. My friend and I were going to hang out in the pavillion, but didn't want to loose our places on the rail. Then came the second opener, Grand Ole Party, who was simply amazing. I really enjoyed the energy that this trio put into their music and to have a female singer who also plays drums was astonishing. Now for the main performance: Karen came out in a kimono and had the biggest cheshire cat grin I have ever seen on a person in my life. Her vocals were top notch and the bands music was tight and percise. The crowd lit up for the whole show and simmered down appropiately for the hit song "Maps". The lighting, the music, everything about this show was just perfect. The whole place exploded during "Zero" and "Y Control", but again, during songs such as "Maps" and "Skeletons" the crowd just swayed in awe to Karens crystal clear vocals. By the end of the show I was hot, sweaty, crushed against five different people, and totally blown away by this amazing band. Anyone who missed out on this show definitely missed out on one of the top five shows of this year and probably the best show this year at the LC. Security was amazingly lax so I was able to bring in my 7MP digital cam and get some amazing pictures.

Yeah yeah yeahs gave an unforgettable performance! My only pretty minor complaint is that the Aragon Ballroom seems to have some issues printing tickets from ticketmaster in their box office. The ticket they originally gave me wouldn't scan at the door and a few folks in front of me had bought tickets online that it took the folks a while to find. Both issues were fixed quickly, but it might be better to just print at home.

show wasnt sold out, bought the tickets at full price the weekend before. should have known not to bother. band is over rated and they believe their own hype. almost 10pm on a thursday night and they started. show said it started at 8 so i figured we would have been out of there closer to 10. having a job to work the next day made us leave very early. seemed very unorganized. advertised times should say when headliners start and not openers, especially since they dont promote the opener. sound was terrible. not a lot of people were there so it sounded flooded and extra loud for no reason. would never buy the bands music since i feel ripped off. would maybe still listen to them for free. probably wont go back to barclays unless an amazing band was there that always sells out and has a sound guy that isnt a moron

YYY's return to Brooklyn! In typical fashion they were great, although I wish they played a longer set they awarded the crowd with a mix of new and older hits including having a choir perform onstage with them! Karen O performed in an outrageous outfit as usual and was great. The lights and confetti bombs made for an awesome show - though the place wasn't full, it felt a little more intimate with a smaller crowd. The Barclays Center is pretty sweet - though its location isn't the best, it's easily accessible by mass transit. In all an awesome night with a great band doing what they do best - playing great music

The show opened with Har mar Superstar, which was one of the best opening act combinations for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There is a history between Har mar and the YYYs, and he was such an amazing showman. Once the YYYs came on stage it was electrifying and Karen O was mesmerizing. I had waited 10 years to see them and they delivered as a band. The energy level that was radiating from the entire band allowed the audience to observe how a great band can transform into a collective performing entity. Some highlights of the night included singing into the microphone during Cheated Hearts, seeing Karen spit water into the air, and watching Karen snake the microphone down her shirt and into/through her pants. The precision that each musician played their instrument showed such an awesome professionalism that was inspiring. Nick was in the thick of controlling the sound and was precise with his solos, and also involved the crowd with his photography. Brian has been a hero to me on the drums and played with a much enjoyed charisma. David rounded things off for me, fine tuning the sound to accompany the already amazing music that flows from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs no matter what. I strongly suggest seeing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, it was a life changing experience, I can't thank the band enough.

I've had friends tell me the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are amazing live and they weren't wrong. This concert officially became the best concert I've ever seen and I've been to my fair share. I think I enjoyed myself here more than being at EDC back to back years. I've been a big fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for a very long time now and I'm glad I finally went and saw them live. Karen O brought it and did some weird things but you know what? She's incredibly beautiful and I love every bit of her weirdness. She definitely knows how to get the crowd going. They played all their hits and they even played Maps, which is my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs song. I guess the only song they didn't play that I wanted to hear was Y-Control but that's such a minor oversight compared to getting everything else. Fantastic show and if you like their music, you won't be disappointed when you see them live!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs always put on a great show, with awesome music, impeccable sound, and Karen's antics. They all rocked out and were at the top of their game music, performance, and sound-wise. Radio City isn't the best venue for them; I prefer them in more intimate settings or larger outdoor venues. Absolutely love this band and the energy it exudes! The Yeah Yeah Yeah's shook the house down as they performed powerful renditions of songs from throughout their career. My only complaint is that the venue may have been too large. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are notorious for their ability to completely demolish an intimate-medium sized venue, but the sheer size of Radio City seemed like a bit of a challenge. Nonetheless, that didn't stop the fans from loving every minute of this amazing concert!

First time at the Fox Theater in Pomona. For starters, the place was a class act. It's like if the Wiltern & the Henry Fonda had a kid and it was the Fox Theater. Unfortunately, only one bathroom for each gender in the whole place. Not a big deal for guys, but sucks if you're a girl. As for the show, Karen O is officially a legend. Seeing the YYYs live is one of those things you do that will forever stay with you. You get to tell your kids that you were there. That you've seen them. "Y Control", "Maps (acoustic!)", "Heads Will Roll", & "Date With The Night" were the ultimate highlights in this show. I saw people screaming (or rather 'heard'), dancing, smiling, crying, & laughing. When is the last time you saw such a spectacle, at least from a respectable rock band. If they ever come to your town, don't think twice. Just see them. No matter how you do it, make it your top priority.

you never disappoint me when i see you guys live, and last night was no different. you took the normally 'too cool to get excited' l.a. crowd and shook them to the core. the sound was clear and loud, which doesn't always happen at the greek theatre, so thank you for that as well.

The show was great!!! took my buddy there for his birthday and he didnt even know them that well. But they hooked him in playing across the span of their entire discography. Hit after hit. The crowd warmed to every odd pose and performance of the band. Rainbow confetti cannons showered the crowd amidst smoke and giant eye beach balls that bounced in to on-stage action knocking over the band to have them simply laugh about it. Their was alot of laughter, play and communication from the band's heroine and the whole performance surged with life, laughter and love. This show was raw and authentic. Top marks.

The opening act, Yacht, was interesting. Reminded me of some early 80s and Eurythmics. YYYs came out a bit late I thought. They played a nice amount of old and new. The crowd was full of your typical tweeny dbags but easily ignored. The show went till 11:30, mainly I think because of the late start. Karen O was in great form and her voice was tip top on Skeletons though could've been louder. The Fox is a nice venue.

Yatch (The band opening for the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs) was great at getting the audience pumped for the YYY's. They (the YYY's) started with six rockin' songs to get the crowd pumped, then slowed down the tempo and eventually played one of their slower songs. When they left the stage, we all sat around for a few minutes cheering and to the crowd's delight, they came back on stage for two more songs!

She is in the genre of great originals female singers. She has her own unique style and great vocals. Her appeal crosses generational lines as my daughters likes them as well as my husband and myself.

Great show, overall. Unless you were within 25 feet of the stage or sitting in the balcony, forget seeing the band. Sound was great, vibe was awesome, and it was a bit nice to actually be surrounded by shoulder-to-shoulder people and not be sweating to death. They had the a/c dialed-down for the crowd, and it made for a VERY comfortable show. Staff was great at the Crystal Ballroom, and helped to make this one of the best shows that I've seen in a while. They played 90 solid minutes and barely took a breath without all the mundane stage rap that many artists spew into the crowd. They played, they destroyed, thanked the audience, shook hands with the people in the front rows, and walked off. Awesome.

Well worth everything i went through to finally be able to see YYYs in concert. The venue was very nice, fun and inviting. Although the outside of the building looks like a dump, the inside is all but that. The opening act was fun and entertaining for sure. Amanda Blank and Spank Rock really know how to open a show for a great band. As for the YYYs, of course it was all that i expected and more. I just wish it would have lasted all night.

If you were to make a list of the three or four things you d want in a concert, Karen O and company not only had it, but on this night they did it better than anyone else. In fact\u2026 1) Intimacy I d rather see a band in a back alley club than some 100,000-seat arena. There is something unique about being within an arm s length of your favorite musicians. The concert becomes more personal, more emotional. The YYY don t get this opportunity often these days. They ve grown a ton since their debut at the beginning of the decade and recent gigs at Lollapalooza and All Points West are now more the norm than the exception. This show was a surprise announcement and likely just added so the band could play a nearby show on their way out of N.Y. after APW. The venue probably didn t hold more than 250 people. Anyone in the mass at the front of the stage was as close to Karen O as friends sitting across a room watching television together. When she spit beer, people got wet. When they released Y-shaped confetti, we were showered in it. 2) Showmanship Take a look at Karen O. Her outfits are over-the-top eyecatching. Her antics are in your face (beer spitting, placing the entire mic in her mouth, this sadistic smile that s oddly seductive). The energy she conveys through her vocals and her movement across the stage is unmatched. I ve seen Girl Talk, Bob Dylan, Ted Leo, Death Cab for Cutie, Kanye West, The Hold Steady, Ra Ra Riot in Syracuse and other acts with a reputation for pure lovefests with a crowd. I m not sure I ve ever experienced an act who developed a more sensual relationship with an audience despite carrying such high expectations. When else would YYY be near Albany? Precisely. This was the lone chance for the YYY to cement their reputation to fans in this area. Naturally there was a ton of hype, but Karen O exceeded it. 3) Energy and Communal Experience This may only be possible if items No. 1 and No. 2 are present. A crowd that totally buys into the act (singing along, constant movement, responding when prompted from the act) adds immensely to an experience. The crowd was in a state of constant motion with people right on top of each other all night (in my experiences, it was only rivaled by a Girl Talk crowd). To sum it up briefly, the no sweat paper arm band Karen O wore was transparent by the end. My hands looked as if I showered for an hour straight. The drive back to Syracuse needed to be done shirtless. 4) Quality Musicianship I feel the need include my trips to see Dave Brubeck, John Mayer, Ben Folds or the like (Kirill Gerstein, anyone?) when discussing my best concert experiences. Maybe it s the large amount of life I spent in concert wind ensembles, jazz bands and orchestras, but technical skill and creativity matters to me when evaluating a concert. This doesn t always strike me even when I go see bands I thoroughly enjoy. The YYY absolutely floored me in this regard. Guitarist Nick Zinner writes riffs that are brilliantly simple yet they evoke visceral reactions from crowds. The band won t wow you with incredibly fast runs, vocal pitches well above the staff or blistering paced percussive syncopation. Instead they create a tight pocket (borrowing the term from my high school jazz instructor), finding a joint groove that where all three bandmates seemingly function as one. The past couple hundred words could have the same value as it was the best show I ve seen, to many. If either description moves you to buy a ticket the next time they re around, than mine job is done. It d be your turn to get subjective on the subject.

Karen O. has the most amazing stage presence out of any show I have ever seen. She puts on multiple accessories on throughout the entire show, making it truly an experience. I wish I got to be one of the fans in the front row being crushed by the roaring fans, but I guess 3rd row will suffice. :) The Yeah Yeah Yeahs played several songs from all of their albums, and came back to sing 3 more songs because of an encore. This show will be one that I will never forget. If you get a chance to see her in a show, don't be worried how much you paid for the ticket. It will be worth it and much much more.

I deem Yeah Yeah Yeahs as the best concert I have ever been to and I want to repeat it every day of my life! First Ave was such a good place to see them for the first time! The opening acts were good too. Karen O is such a good entertainer and they sound so amazing live! I was happy it wasn't at a larger venue because we were able to get up really close and rock out super hard!

Considering the sound of the new record, I was expecting a pretty somber concert experience from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs this year. However, from the first minute of their set, I realized that we would hear a little bit of both. Their first song was a tune from their new disc, Dull Life. It starts out slow and escalates into an explosion of winding guitar and bashing drums, with Karen O. leaning over the front rows of the audience enunciating the bridge of the song. If this doesn t get you into the rock n roll spirit, then the rowdy Detroit crowd jumping up and down shaking the floorboards certainly will. Being a longtime fan of the band, this was my first time seeing them live. They very rarely come to my neck of the woods, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were coming to Michigan for their headlining tour. Despite the economic troubles of Detroit and the rest of the state, they didn t bother to remind anyone of that. Instead, they played everything we wanted to hear and it made my friends and I forget that we were poor. We got to hear Y Control, Date With The Night, Gold Lion, and of course the new shake-your-tail-feathers-dance-number, Zero. This is the best concert I ve seen in a long time. After seeing the show, the YYY s secured their place in my top five favorite live bands of all time list. I spent a lot of time getting photos during the show, which turned out to be pretty easy because they re all a very photogenic bunch of rockers. About three quarters of the way through the set, the band slowed things down by playing a couple of stripped-down versions of some of their songs, including an acoustic version of their most well-known number, Maps. Surprisingly, the song still held water without the help of guitar player Nick Zinner s effects pedals. My favorite part of the show was when the band played Miles Away, the song that introduced me to the band in the first place. I first heard it a few years ago on a free sampler CD. I hoped they d play it, but didn t expect it to see the light of day at Clutch Cargo s on this particular evening. But, once again, they surprised me and played the punky two-minute anthem which I endear so much\u2026 seemingly, just for me. The opening act, Grand Ole Party were excellent as well. We really expected to make fun of them, but after about two or three songs, they had people heading straight to their merch table to try and buy them out. They, too, were a three-piece band with a female lead singer. But this singer, however, also played the drums while she sang, and she was brilliant. She sang songs about her father possibly being the devil and another tune called, Love Button, in which she talks about growing her hair long to, cover her eyes from the men she craves\u2026 Anyways, it was a night consumed by two very talented rock bands with a lot of sex appeal. Do I recommend seeing the YYY s live? Yes, go now! See them immediately!!!

Great show. Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs sound great live. Plenty of energy, and the tunes were great. And a beautiful night as well. Also, since the venue was small, we had a great view of her and the band.

Philadelphia doesn't seem like it has a huge YYY fan base which made the show lame. From where I was standing (near the front center stage) I could only pick out two other people who knew pretty much every song the YYY performed. Also on a personal note I'm not a big fan of the River Stage, I thought the YYY could have picked a better venue such as the Skyline Stage at The Mann Center but I guess they wouldn't be able to fill that venue. The YYY overall played an awesome show, had a very good line up. Karen O has pretty good stage presents, people seem to like her just maybe not her music as much. As a YYY fan, to perform an encore please don't ever just play one song and let it be Maps at that, I've heard that song way to many times and I want to leave a show feeling pumped up not bored :/ On a side note there were technical difficulties as well.

20 years ago I would have rated this 5 stars and been one of the kids dancing nonstop at the front. Still a great show, Karen Oh has incredible stage presence and it is very clear that she loves performing. So much better than an act just going through the motions. My 14 year old loved the show as well. I have only two complaints. First, the vocal mix seemed a little low, I would have like to hear Karen's vocals a little better. Second, why do jackasses get there late, spend half the show in the back, and then try to cram up to the front at the start of the "hit" song they recognize. The people that spent the whole show at the front are just as important as you, and are probably bigger fans of the artist since they bothered to wait in line an extra hour to get in, stake out their place out front, and then sing along to every song, not just the one popular one that you know. Get off my lawn. End old fart rant.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' energetic performance could not overcome the show's obstacles: a two hour delay for the weather to clear, an apparently shortened setlist, and the worst sound quality I've heard at a professional concert. About all the sound engineer got right was the volume -- loud! -- which is fine except when the sound gets muddied, over-distorted, and the vocals unintelligible. Even walking around in the standing only area I couldn't find anything close to a sweet spot for the sound.

Karen O is a Goddess in leather, her voice is incredible live and the entire band just feeds off each other. The show was indescribable, mostly because the crowd was so excited. I saw a person cry from their joy and that's rare unless the act is perfect. The YEAH YEAH YEAHS were perfect.
