Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys

When Sheffield, England quartet, Arctic Monkeys, released their first single "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" in late 2005, the song immediately shot to No.1 in the UK singles chart. Their infectious sound--a blend of catchy pop and garage band edginess--quickly garnered them an enthusiastic fanbase in the UK and abroad. The band was touted as the "next big thing" by UK press, and their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, became one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year.

First time at this venue. The acoustics were nice and I enjoyed the space. Concert was awesome. Only complaint was the last poster was sold to the person in front of me. Will see AM again! Will return to this venue again!

Awesome show! Arctic Monkeys were fantastic and an outdoor venue in the summertime is always the best place to watch a show!

i've always wanted to check out the fox theater but no one playing was of any interest until now. i usually like a band more after watching them live, but the sound quality defeated my expectations the band: song choices were alright. the energy levels kept alternating, which i guess is more for an endurance thing. when me energy level was up, it was brought down by a slower song which resulted in me falling asleep at my seat. the venue: lots of help getting direction to my seat nice decor and lots of breathing room...if you have a seat on the mezzanine level. not sure who is responsible for sound quality but it was definitely lacking. often sounding muddled. did i mention the place looked good?

I waited a long time to see the Arctic Monkeys and they did not disappoint. Combining both their older stuff with songs off their new Humbug album, the band reminded us how good rock music can feel. Their new album sound is reminiscent of 1950's guitar styles mixed with their own unique rock and soft-to-hard song movements. The drummer is just phenomenal. Go see them when they visit a venue near you.

Turner and the boys return with their newest album Humbug. To be honest, I didn't think many songs from this album would sound all that great live but I love it when rock and roll proves me wrong. Coming on stage performing Dance Little Liar gave you a taste what you were in for that night. It didn't take long for elbows and sweat to start flying once the first few bars were played and soon many crowd members, including myself, found themselves being literally moved by The Arctic Monkeys. Somewhere along the lines someone in the crowd to tastelessly shout out, "The Strokes are better than you!" which might be true, but I don't think they could rock a crowd as hard as The Arctic Monkeys. They've just got too many frantic, fast paced rock and roll songs so comparing the two when it comes to how the crowd reacts. All in all, the Monkeys put on a fantastic show last night.

Saw the Arctic Monkeys at the Fox Theater in Oakland. This was my second show at this venue (the prior one was The Allman Brothers). Loved the minimalist stage setup of the the band, and they brought a lot of energy to the show. Unfortunately, the drums seemed to be miked, and were so loud that you could barely hear the rest of the music, especially the vocals. This was not the case the last time I was at The Fox. Not sure if it was the band's sound guys or the venue sound system.

Their hair is getting longer but their songs are still short, so a lot were packed into a noisy, rocking 65-minute set plus a two-song encore at this great venue. The band was loud and tight, especially on those patented stops and starts in many of their songs. Alex Turner was a bit more of the focus than when I saw them 18 months ago, and he took the mike in hand and put aside his guitar on a few songs. (Couldn't quite make out much of what he said between songs, with the accent & distorted mic). The fans up front swayed like a wheat field - not quite a mosh pit but close - and there was some some crowd-surfing, a British flag waved, and their older songs drew the biggest applause. Drummer Matt Helders, hair still short, did his usual great work while managing the important -to-their-sound backing vocals. A fifth unofficial member of the band played keyboards and sometimes guitar. Wish they'd done "Fake Tales of San Francisco" and some other oldies but can't expect many I guess.

The band was fine. I have seen them on several occassions and they were as good as ever. The problem with the show, however, was the Fox Theater in Oakland. The Fox is probably the most beautiful and accomodating venue in the Bay Area. The staff at the Fox is top notch. The theater's acoustics, however, are terrible. I have seen multiple shows at the Fox, both upstairs and downstairs, and the sound has sucked every time. As for the Arcitic Monkeys, they were a great, as usual, I just wish I could have heard them better.

Well, it's official, the Fox Theater is the least favorite venue in the East Bay. Aside from the low stage height, combined with a poorly designed floor (you should be 6 foot plus if you hope to even see the musicians) it's hot hot hot. Still, I was hoping the Arctic Monkeys could deliver a show comparable to their Warfield appearance from back in 2006. Unfortunately, they have shed their catchy, scratchy garage rock for darker, more Black Sabbath style dirges. Thing is, Ozzy and company did it best, it's a bit hard to swallow from this band. What can I say, I left early...

OMG where do I start. Well first let me tell you that I have seen the Arctic Monkeys twice at the Warfield and they were awesome. Then let me tell you that last night was the first time ever I have walked out a gig!!!!!!!!!!! It was a disaster. They opened the show with a song I did not know, it was slow, monotonous, not the best start to get you going at a show. The sound was awful. The Arctics are all about Alex's strong and distinctive vocals and they should be up front and in your face but last night his vocals were lost in a blur of noise. The sound was muddy and just plain bad. I went to a few different spots to see if it was where we were standing but that didn't help. We had driven all the way from Morgan Hill to Oakland so I was gutted that it was a wasted journey, we left in disgust after we heard our fav tune 'bet that you look good...." even it couldn't make up for the dismal sound. I have seen a few other bands at the Fox and the sound was great so the venue is not to blame. I have gone to at least a hundred gigs in my 37 years on this planet but I have to say that last night was the worst I have ever seen, including support acts. I would have given them negative 5 stars if I could. Bad, bad , bad...... Arctics:- fire your sound guy and get back to what you do best!!!!

Arctic Monkeys rocked however from the balcony the sound was pretty bad. Was very excited to see a concert at The Fox, especially Arctic Monkeys, but it was very difficult to hear the lyrics from our seats in the balcony. It was almost like there was a delay and very little treble. Next time we will get tickets for the floor. Hopefully its a lot better down there. If anything, The Fox made me miss the incredible acoustics of the Warfield where I saw the Monkeys last.

Saw these guys at APW Festival in Jersey and they sounded great! I liked their music before, but you can't tell how good a band is until you see them live. It would be pretty hard not to enjoy this music. There's a lot of talent in this band, and I can't believe they're not huge in the states yet.

Everything about their concert was amazing. The venue was beautiful, to start. It was this lightly sloping hill looking down on a stage with the whole city in the background. Their performance was even better, though. They are truly artists, no doubt about it. Every song sounded just as good (some even better) than what is on the album. If you ve been considering seeing the Arctic Monkeys in concert, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend it. Likewise, if you ve been planning on seeing any concerts at this venue, it s a lovely place and I would certainly recommend that too!

I love the monkeys and the majority of their catalog but let s face it, the new album isn t exactly going to rock an arena. When they played material from previous albums it was great and the crowd was lively but the large proportion of tranquility prevented the energy and excitement from gaining consistent momentum. If they swapped 3 tranquility songs for others I would give the show 4 stars. If they swapped 6 for others it would enter 5 star territory. They re a great band but the set list on this tour left me underwhelmed.

The show was incredible from start to finish. I've seen Arctic Monkeys before, and I was still blown away. One of the best concerts I've ever been to, if not the best. The band isn't very personal with the crowd though, but it's hard to do so in a larger venue anyway.

The band was absolutely fantastic, and considering I had never heard of the opening act: Mini Mansions, the way they opened up for The Monkeys was also pretty great!! There was about 30 minutes of waiting in between Mini Mansions and Arctic Monkeys for last minute sound checks and stuff, but overall, an unforgettable performance by every single member!

Arctic Monkeys were great. They seemed to play mostly from their AM album, but had several older hits in there too. Half the floor was empty, as well as the back sections of seats. That was kinda annoying, because a concert is much better when there's more of a crowd due to the added energy. This might indicate that tickets were overpriced. Also, I pretty much never could see the band except for a silhouette. While all the lighting effects were cool, the lights were always from behind, and you couldn't ever actually see the band members' faces.

Sporting Park is a great venue however I never found the designated parking lots for the concert and so left my car in the Legends parking lot after grabbing a bite to eat. This worked out fine even though there were signs discouraging it. We arrived later in the afternoon due to rain and were pleasantly surprised to find the "field" covered with flooring! No muddy mess! I was there to see Weezer and Arctic Monkeys primarily but also enjoyed The Mowglis and The 1975. I missed Big Data and Meg Meyers since they were at the 2nd stage and I wanted a good spot at the Main stage for W and AM. Overall it was a great event despite the rain and constant crowd surfing.

The band had an opening band "Royal Blood" that was awesome, two guys, a bass player and a drummer. The bass player played that bass like a lead guitarist and bass (at the same time). Amazing, then the Arctic Monkeys show up. Great Sound, Great Music, Very Clear vocals and played their set. Then the encore, it was fantastic, the disco ball light effects, the whole experience was a plus.

The Arctic Monkeys took the outdoor stage at dusk and played an energetic set centered around their latest record, AM, augmented by a variety of past favorites. Great Band. Great Crowd. The sound at the Pageant is usually good, but for whatever reason I was having trouble picking out individual instruments/vocals from the mix; the sound was a little muddy, which was disappointing to me, but sound quality almost always is. I'm nit-picking though, as the overall experience for this show was quite enjoyable, (I love the setup and layout of the Pageant), and the band and crowd were definitely into it and having fun. Being in the front row of the Arctic Monkeys concert was an amazing experience. Of course, the opening act was highly amusing, and the Arctic Monkeys were beyond amazing, regardless of the bruises I received from the people behind me who felt the need to smash me into the barricade repeatedly. The security was nice, and it was fun to meet Mario of the Orwells after the show. All in all, best night of my life. Probably over half of the reason was because I made eye contact with Alex Turner. I just wish I would have caught his guitar pick. Matt O'Keefe of the Orwells waved to me, that was cool, and so did Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys. Fab.

The Arctic Monkeys were beyond, far beyond, what I had hoped for. It has been several years since I saw them live, and they have become polished and fluid in their performance. The music was and is just incredibly addictive. The packed out crowd was roaring with delight at every interaction with Alex Turner. It was so sad when even after an encore performance, they had to leave the stage. I think the crowd would have stayed all night if they could have given the time to us. People were stomping the floor to get them to return to the stage after the show ended. Just the best concert ever at the most wonderful venue ever. The National has the most considerate and thoughtful staff one could hope for. The manager is constantly vigilant to see that everything runs smoothly yet can take the time to help you out if you need a question answered. Excellent evening in every way.

AMAZING SHOW. The only thing I don't like is that they aren't very interactive with their fans, so the show goes by faster because they're just playing their setlist and are done. But they are phenomenal live. I was a few feet away from Alex and the crowd was absolutely insane. Lots of shoving, but then again, who wouldn't want to be close to them? Sound flawless live. AMAZING PERFORMANCE AND SETLIST. They played off of every album, and encored with "cornerstone" "one for the road" and "r u mine?" It was a sold out show. Go see them.

Seeing the Arctic Monkeys at the paradise was an unforgettable experience. It's very rare that such a great band, who headlines 80,000 person festivals in the UK, plays a 1000 person club venue. The band played songs spanning their entire catalog, but also focusing on their new album "AM"by playing 6 song from it. Though it's a shame the Arctic Monkeys have not gained as much traction in the US, it rewarded the audience in attendance with such an amazing intimate show.

Arctic Monkeys are great performers. You shouldn't expect a great light show or fireworks, but they play their music as you'd probably like to hear it live. Not a run of the CD, with some surprises. Alex Turner doesn't miss a tone. They could be more interactive with the audience but they were the minimum accepted.

I saw the Arctic Monkeys a couple years ago in a smaller venue and they completely lacked stage presence and crowd interaction. They played all the songs one would hope for, but it seemed to lack a personal touch to give it a wow factor. This year in the larger, and cleaner, LC Alex seemed more up for it. He played to the crowd from time to time and even talked to us. It could still use some work, but they played all their hits hard and fast and it certainly rocked.

Unlike last years visit to the Hard Rock, the Arctic Monkeys blew the roof of the place! I was there for their Humbug tour which, for the most part, the entire album is somewhat drab. So, going into the show, i figured i might see a laid back style of show. I was right. the group appeared dressed in black suits and played mostly off their Humbug album. I was disappointed. though i do like humbug it is my least favorite of their work and left me craving for an uptempo track. Perhaps it was their moments on the lollapolloza tour or just another year to grow, but the arctic monkeys seemed like a different group this year. They played all of their hits from start to finish. they had a nice blend of hype music mixed with what appears to be their new sound (humbug & parts of suck it and see). this was a great concert by one of the most underated rock groups in the history of the world. i am amazed how this group isnt selling out arenas here in the US!

This is an amazing band playing the perfect sized venue. This is the fourth time I've seen them, third at the Hard Rock Orlando. They never disappoint. To give you an idea of how awesome their lives shows are; they didn't come to Florida during their Fall 2009 tour, so my friends and I got in my car and drove over 700 miles to New Orleans so we wouldn't miss them. It was worth it. The opening band didn't suck. They weren't great, but they have potential. The only downfall was the old drunken sk@nk who hit me in the face while flailing about then got all pissy and yelled at ME. She also made contact with a few of the people around me. It's a pity that idiots who can't hold their liquor have to go out in public and ruin other people's good time. She wasn't young either, and it was quite sad to see a woman her age act like a complete fool. Go out, have a few drinks, and have a good time. Just don't ruin the evening for the rest of us.

I was extremely excited when I found out the Arctic Monkeys were doing a North American tour. I literally bought tickets for my friend and I seconds after they went on sale. They didn't let me down either!! I loved the openers, The Vaccines, also. Alex sounds incredible live and the band in general was just terrific. I was upset they didn't play one of my favorite songs, Fluorescent Adolescent, but they ended up doing an encore and played it for us. There was a good mix of their old and new songs. It was amazing! If they ever come back to the US and are relatively close to where I live, I'm going again. And, if they ever play in England and I just happen to be there... I'm going again.

This was a great combination. I was so excited that Arctic Monkeys were playing in Seattle again, I had no idea who the opening band would be, I was pleasantly surprised. Both bands rocked, and The Vaccines left with a new fan.

Arctic Monkeys put on a great show in Dallas! I absolutely loved it. Really small venue so they were extremely close up. They were as good live as on CD, played for about 90 minutes, and after the show they signed things and took pics with fans who were out back (myself included). A night I won't forget!!!

The band was on top form especially seeing this was the 1st date of their US tour. The Palladium was a good venue. Sound was excellent. Parking in/out was not a hassle. Drinks cost is preety cheap for a music venue. Also, in Dallas, it was fanastic to be inside in airconditioning as well as its currently 100+ degrees even at 10pm (outdoor venues like the Gexa Energy Pavilion suck as its so hot .... ie the ill fated Kings of Leon gig which I was also at.... gexa audio sucked, 90 degress and $10 beers... not somthing I'll be returning to in a hurry... I will be returning to the Palladium !)

Wow! One of the best shows I have EVER seen.... I have loved these guys for years (so maybe I'm already biased), but this show totally blew my mind. I've seen some great bands over the years, but this was on the level with any of the best shows I've ever seen. Thanks so much to the band for bringing it so well!!

The show kicked off with The Vaccines, who played a really great set, that hyped up the crowd. Then once the Arctic Monkeys came on stage, the crowd went wild. They played a ton of songs, and they sound amazing live. The whole band is on another level with the music they play. They played some of their old and new songs, which all sounded great. They finished off with "When The Sun Goes Down", and left. Then the crowd chanted "monkeys, monkeys, monkeys" for a good couple of minutes and they came back for an encore. It was the most amazing moment of a concert. A super great band, and I recommend if anyone has the chance, to go see them live. Truly an amazing experience!

Really good energy. They keep the pace going strong and rock hard. Play songs from all albums, especially the second, as well as some new unreleased songs. Love me some Arctic Monkeys. The opening act, The Vaccines, sucked hard though.

The Arctic Monkeys were incredible, and put on a fantastic show! The sound was great - everything was well balanced and clear, and the acoustics of the venue were fantastic. One of the best live shows I've been to, without a doubt!! I can't wait to see them again!

Arctic Monkeys rock! The show started right on time without glithes of any kind. Most of the songs sounded close to studio record, but not all. The sound quality was good and not overpowering. They played a nice mix of songs from different albums and overall the show was great! The only down side is they played just 1hr and 15min, which seemed a bit short. That said it was an excellent value considering ticket prices and size of the venue. I will see them again next time and will recommend it to anyone who likes their music.

The venue was small and had several floor heights. I stood on the second tier even with the stage. I was really close, but not getting trampled. I was able to get several good pictures from my spot. The concert was so great! They had lots of energy and there was never a moment when I felt like it was fading or they were losing the crowd. The crowd was really into the concert, singing along to every song. I hope I can go see them again, maybe in England!

The show itself was great! Good mix of old and new songs. My complaint and it seems to be a trend I am noticing more and more, is that the concerts are too short. Artctic Monkeys played for a little over and hour and had a 10 min encore. The show was over before 10:30. Given the cost of tickets, fees, and concessions, I feel like an hour and 15 minutes is not long enough. I've been going to shows for almost 20 years and headliners would always play for at least two hours, until recently. While there was an opener, I don't buy my tickets based on who is the opening band.

I attended this concert with my daughter, despite not really knowing much about the band ahead of time. I was duly impressed - great performances by both the Arctic Monkeys and The Nude Party. My only complaint is that it took 45 minutes between sets to get AM set-up, which is way too long to wait in my opinion. I can't remember being at a concert that took more than 5-10 minutes between bands. Overall, I'd definitely return to the Ascend Amphitheater and both bands now have a new fan.

Took my girlfriend for her birthday. Expected blues esque type of sound from the monkeys. While they did have that, I was pleasantly surprised by their metal edge. Several songs had powerful riffs and amazing guitar play! Completely unexpected, I was blown away. This band is a live must see!

I know you can t control the crowd you see a show with, but there were a select few guys who got together and decided to mosh to every song. The Monkeys were fantastic but I couldn t enjoy it as much as I wanted to because I was defending my territory and acting as a barricade.
