Million Dollar Quartet (Touring)

Hot on the heels of its Broadway run, rock and roll musical Million Dollar Quartet is on the road to tell the story of the fateful meeting between Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash at an impromptu jam session in December of 1956. The musical focuses on these newcomers before they became icons, gathered for a rare collaboration at Sun Studios in Memphis. The cast brilliantly portrays the original performers while playing each timeless track with perfection and ease. Million Dollar Quartet will have fans all shook up this summer with their red-hot 2014 tour dates.

We took my grandmother and she can't stop talking about it. She swears it took her back to her teenage years. Best thing we could have ever done for her. Can't wait to do something like that again for her it was great.

The show was great. Carl Perkins portrayer was a great guitarist. When Johnny Cash first opened his mouth he was spot on to the real Cash. Elvis was a great impersonater as was Jerry Lee.

My wife and I are starting the empty nest part of our lives. and we have had more time together and have found R.B.T.L. interesting. She usually picks the shows but I suggested The Million Dollar Quartet. We both loved every second of it. All of the characters did a very good of the real celebrity they were playing perfectly and could entertain a theater on their own as their own as them self's and not being in character.

This show is a real gem! The performers were very talented and their imitations of their characters were perfect. It was a walk down memory lane for us and thoroughly enjoyable for my son and his wife who are in their forties. The story line and flashbacks help tie the music together and explained the connections and circumstances. I would see it again, if I had the chance. The finale was such a great way to end the show!

We really enjoyed the fabulous show on Thursday, October 27. The cast was obviously selected from very talented musicians -- they were all outstanding. Unfortunately, the sign language interpreter was a huge distraction. She was under a spotlight, and we just could not ignore her or her hand movements. Please -- let people know in advance of ticket purchase that an interpreter will be present. We would have selected a different show if we had known.

"Million Dollar Quartet" was incredible, one of the best shows I've ever seen. The actors playing Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins were extremely talented, having to act, play instruments, sing, and imitate, which they did to a T. At times, I felt like I was watching and listening to the real deals! If you get a chance, you've got to go!

From start to finish, it was a fabulous event. I am not sure whether I should call it a play or a concert, because it was both. All of the actors were extremely talented with great voices. Since I did not know anything about Carl Perkins, I cannot compare that actor to the real person, but he had a great voice and could really play the guitar. The actors playing Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis were great and especially the actor playing Elvis looked just like him, moved like him and sang like him. But to me, the one that brought down the house was the actor playing Johnny Cash. When he said "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash," you thought that Johnny had come back from the dead. I do not want to forget the actors playing Sam and Diane because their performances were also outstanding. The audience loved it and clapped and yelled throughout the entire performance. It was wonderful, and I would highly recommend it to my friends. In fact, I already have.

We decided to go to this on the spur of the moment after hearing an interview on the radio with one of the lead characters. It was fantastic! The music was great -- I sang the songs (silently in consideration of others around me) and we both bopped in our seats throughout the entire production. This ranks right up there with Jersey Boys for nostalgia and incredible entertainment. Go!

One of the most fun shows I've seen in a while. Really enlightened about the history of the old and great stars. This is a great story with great music and bigger than life characters. While the cast was musically talented and up to the challenge, the acting and overall production fell short. I don't know the resume of the actors involved, but it felt like a very high level community theater group. The lighting was sub par as well with dramatic shadows on the actor's faces.

In a show where I anticipated that music and story would have the audience in a constant state of exuberance, the show fell sadly short. It was more on par with a History Channel documentary - to the point of being boring at times. The role of Jerry Lee Lewis came closest to exuberance out of all the cast of characters in the show. My great seat for my first time at the DPAC in Durham, NC was the real memory maker of the evening fro me.

It was just ok. The dialog was mumbled and given without much enthusiasm, except for the actor who portrayed Jerry Lee Lewis. Yet even he was hobbled by the poorly written script. The music saved the show, a bit too loud at times, but it is rock and roll. Save your money and buy the original Sam Phillips recording.

Overall, it was a pretty good show. The guys playing Jerry Lee and Johnny Cash were really good. Elvis was good, but just didn't look as much like Elvis as the other two did. Perkins is a really good guitar player. Sam added a lot of levity and humor to it. The female character could really sing! The musical performances were great. The musicians were all good and I generally liked the song choices. The story is a little weak and seems forced. It is weird when Sam Phillips goes into the soliloquy at the end. That just doesn't fit with the rest of the play. Also, it makes Carl Perkins seem like a jerk and Jerry Lee seem dumb. I don't think that is an adequate portrayal of either of them.

This performance was very special to someone who "live' in Memphis during this musical phenomenon. Lived near one of Elvis's girl friends. Amazing time. As for the performances, Cory Slaughter looked the part so well and his performance was super. Personally know one of his past GF's. New Johnny Cash...amazing voice...great job. We have seen a lot of Broadway musicals. We saw Phantom in New York. We saw Les Mis in London. But Million Dollar Quartet in Raleigh was the best show of all for amazing entertainment, talent, pure fun and excitement. Elvis rocked the house. Jerry Lee Lewis was incredible. Carl Perkins was the leader of the band. and we had been around Carl in those early years in Memphis. And the new guy who played Johnny Cash was by far the best we have ever seen. He took our breath away. He nailed it. We should know. Johnny Cash is my Uncle (mother's brother). We spent many hours together almost every Thanksgiving and Christmas having Cash family reunions at J.R. 's (Uncle Johnny's) home in Hendersonville. I grew up at the Ryman auditorium in Nashville backstage attending his concerts. He used to bring the band over and practise at our home just for my Mama's free cooking. David Elkins (Johnny) had the mannerisms, attitude, speech, and "golden-throat" vocals almost identical. Our whole family could close our eyes and felt like we were back with the dear one we grew up with for all those years, in Memphis and Nashville. We were moved, touched, amazed, and spell-bound. Others around us were saying the same thing. Thank you cast and crew for gving so much. It was an unforgettable spiritual experience.

Went expecting/hoping to be entertained, not knowing what a treat we were really in for. The narrator brilliantly took the audience along as he shared his once in a lifetime experience with four musical geniuses. The singing was spot-on! You felt as though the actors were the real thing. And their instrument playing was equally fabulous. So refreshing to hear real music, real singing, no recordings. The selection of signature songs from each of the artists was perfect. Just when we thought the show had finally climaxed, another surprise hit would rock the stage, raising the bar to even greater heights. And in the end, the Narrator cleverly pulled it all together with one simple photo. We could see it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an enjoyable show, and a fabulous cast and creative team. We saw understudies who ROCKED the show! There were people that you normally wouldn't see in at a musical, attracted by the classic rock icons and their music (I imagine this is more than just a "juke box musical" for many new theatre goers). Not always uncanny impersonations, but pretty damn close! And ALL played their own instruments (no small feat with this music). Seats were terrific! Aisle allowed for unobstructed view!

I went to see two friends IN THE SHOW....I was never a fan of the music of any of these four performers. However, my dad was and he would have loved it had he still been alive. I had no idea that this show was actually based on a REAL EVENING in which these fabulous entertainers actually all came together. I thought it was an WHAT IF THESE SINGERS ALL CAME TOGETHER. No orchestra...the actors were playing their instruments. Jerry Lee Lewis, portrayed as just a young kid, was already a wild man at the Piano. Most sang songs we know, and a few I had never heard of, either jamming together or singing in Perfect Harmony. The only female member of the cast, was the understudy, and she was just FABULOUS (Alyssa Marie). Though upon follow up web searching I read that though Elvis was with a date that evening, it was with a model who did not sing....having a woman singing showed a sultry side of Elvis's music. No Intermission....and the evening flew by and you didn't want it to end. An Encore at the end reminded me of the ending of Mamma Mia, where the actors donned sequined jackets and each got to perform one of their performers major hits. JUST FABULOUS

Being a huge Elvis fan and a lover of good music, I was interested in seeing this play. I've read professional reviews stating that this is nothing more than a glorified tribute concert. Not sure I agree with that. Yes, the actors/performers sing a lot - they play their own instruments and sing too. And they are extremely talented. This musical is very loosely based on the night Elvis (played by Cody Slaughter), Johnny Cash (played by Derek Keeling), Jerry Lee Lewis (played by Martin Kaye) and Carl Perkins (played by Lee Ferris) jammed together at Sam Phillips' Sun Studios. They may not have sung the exact same songs as those on the real life recording, but you'll know most, if not all of these rock and roll classics. And, the dialogue in the play isn't what went down on that December night in 1956. But you will get some historical facts about these four pioneers of music along with Sam Phillips' story. I think it works beautifully. Besides the "quartet" of singers and Sam Phillips (played by Christopher Ryan Grant), Elvis' girlfriend (played by Kelly Lamont) also makes the scene, but in the play, she sings a couple of songs (which didn't happen in real life. Elvis brought a girlfriend to the studios, but she didn't sing with the guys). Then there is a drummer and stand up bass player who fill in. The talent is over the top. ALL of the performers are outstanding playing their counterparts and they are wonderful musicians. I would highly recommend this play for anyone who is a fan of music. It really makes you appreciate what true talent is.

I have seen the Million Dollar Quartet 8 times now and it gets better each & every time. I instantly became a fan after seeing it for the first time in Chicago in May 2011 followed by the New York production in August of 2011. When it was announced the show was going on tour, I immediately booked my tickets for my local theater in Southern California not once, but for 4 shows. On an impulse, we went to see them in Tempe, AZ in June and now 2 more times in Los Angeles for my 8th & 9th times. I am huge rock and roll fan who just can't enough of the show. I love the music, the production, the acting, the drama, the costumes.....everything about this show is a winner. Call me crazy but I just might have to book my tickets for Canada next month!

Although the actors had amazing voices, the sound system really needs an upgrade. No speakers up in the balcony;I missed a lot of the dialogue. Awkward silence at times made you wonder- is that part of the script? No intermission made for a quick show. Perfect for a older crowd. Thoroughly enjoyed the bop down memory lane. Actors were well in character and have great musical talent. It was hard not to get up and dance, even in close together rows!

The musicians where first class, the performance was great. Maybe the southern accents were a bit much but it was so much fun who cares.

Great show! The perfornmacnes were outstanding. I enjoyed the story of Sun Records and the music of four of the greatest performers of the rock and roll era. Recommend this show to all music lovers.

What can you say about this show other than the music was the best. From the low, soulful notes of Johnny Cash and musicality of Carl Perkins to the high energy songs of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, it was an evening of delight. We especially liked the actor who played Jerry Lee Lewis (from my Alma Mater of SUNY at Buffalo) for his outrageousness ability in character.

The musicians were wonderful, they tried their best, The only terrible situation was they sat half of our group at the cheapest tickets and half of us in front so two tickets were wasted, the ushers did not know where the seats were and put my son and his wife on the third floor when we were at the very front of the theater

My wife and I saw this show in Las Vegas 02/16 and it was OUTSTANDING that is why we wanted to see it again. That was a mistake! This venue is great, however whoever was running the sound missed a lot of queues to start with. There were only 2 performers that did a good job. The lady that sang I should more say screeched and they way she walked on stage looked like she had been in a bad wreck. She led with her head about a foot in front of the rest of her body. We were in the 5th row, the seats were great and that is were the greatness ended. I could go on but no reason.

We thoroughly enjoyed this show! The music was great and the performers were all so incredibly talented, it is hard to believe, The bass player and the actor who played Jerry Lee Lewis were exceptionally talented and entertaining. If you have the opportunity to see this show, get tickets now... you won't regret it!

I loved this show. Music and acting was good. The Elvis character was spot on and so was the Johnny Cash character. Very enjoyable show.

The music was great, and the characters were perfect. Everyone in the audience knew all the songs, and moved in time to the music. It was about 1 hour 45 minutes with no intermission. We would go again tomorrow.

We took a group of teens to this show and it was so well done that not only did the adults enjoy it immensely, all the teens went crazy for the music and story. They want to know more about this era and the birth of rock and roll. Each character was portrayed so very accurately and their talent was out of this world. The concert at the end was the cherry and sprinkles on is treat of a program. We left the theater laughing and singing - wonderful memories made for our whole group!

Being a long time rock & roll fan, this play brought back many, many memories. The actors and one actress were excellent both in their singing abilities and acting. The songs chosen for the play were time period correct unlike movies I've seen.
