Beach House

Dream pop duo Beach House plays a haunted rendition of ‘60s-style pop that is sure to captivate and mystify audiences wherever the group plays on tour. Singer/keyboardist Victoria Legrand is the focal point in concert, supporting her smoky vocals and graceful melodies with retro organ chords. Cutting through melodic basslines and minimal drum shuffles, guitarist Alex Scally weaves an intricate tapestry of chiming guitar notes. These sparse elements sound straightforward enough, but the group slowly adds layer after layer to create a climatic wall of sound on miniature epics like “Zebra”, “Norway”, and “Used to Be”.

I had never seen Beach House before and really wanted to see if they could produce what they do on their albums live. They did not let me down one bit! The mood of the place with the awesome acoustics and lights made the show epic!! The new Kings theater is beautiful!! they did an outstanding job of bringing it back to its original state. I look forward to more Beach House shows and more shows at the Kings theater!!

Amazing concert, great light and video production complimented the performance. Venue is GORGEOUS! Can't believe this exists in NYC. Beach House never let's me down, played some of their older songs along with their new ones, it was absolutely magical and dreamy.

The ambiance of the place was stellar, the people of both venue and audience alike were spectacular, spectacular, and the sound itself was entrancing from the get-go. I try to go into a concert with my expectations set at a certain obtainable/realistic level, especially when in such intimate a surrounding as the Playhouse, and I must say Beach House exceeded it by leaps and bounds. I would put the quality of sound, and tempo high up on the list with Barrett's Pink Floyd, along with the rhythmic beat maintained from start to finish. The air was alive with good karma. If I had to sum it up to a single word, it'd be: Scintillating. Even if you're not familiar with the music, just being part of an electrifying audience is enough to put you on a happy natural high. I'd definitely see them again.

Let me tell right away: I love the album and have no problem with the spacious sound at all. But what I heard live was such a shame. The band is great, the sound system excellent, the room was nice (Music Box), but what an unfortunate decision of the sound guy to drown almost everything in reverb. Her voice had about a 10 second reveberation, mixed louder than her direct sound. It made the show slow, unintelligible, frankly...boring. I left probably 3/4 in the show. It was just too much. Someone should tell the soundguy to take the fx down a notch or 2 and use it a bit more tastefully. It really hurts the band.

LOVED beach house as always, just an amazing show all around... perfect set for them: swirling diamond pinatas, twinkling pom poms, driving beats and victoria's soaring and scooping vocals that make you feel like a tidal wave of goodness has just swept the bad stuff in life away for all time!

I really enjoyed seeing Beach House at the Cedar, but it was kind of an uncomfortable experience too. BH were annoyed that the audience was all seated. It was Easter Sunday night, clearly everyone was mellow. BH's music is also quite mellow. In fact, the guitarist sat through many songs. But everyone ended up standing after BH pretty much insisted on it. It was fine, and I do want bands to have a good time, but it all felt contradictory to the spirit of their music and the venue.

they have a certain mystique about them that is inviting. not a warm chummy, personal band but more like angels on acid doing celestial rock. Really like their sound and cosmic detached, almost morphed out approach. What they lack with movement on stage they make up with skeletal vibrating volume. Weak point is lyrics, strong point is detached coolness and very hip sound. will do well in Europe

It was exciting to be part of the Beach House "homecoming" at the Lyric, however the volume of the amps was WAY too loud for that space. The female singer, whose voice I love hearing on the radio and CD sounded like she was straining, even shrieking. The beauty of the Beach House sound was completely overwhelmed, it ended up being a not very enjoyable experience. I was really disappointed.

Each of the bands were technically proficient, and aspects of each of the songs were always enjoyable; that said, Lower Dens did next to no talking (just the music), other than to say "Thanks." For me, music is often as much about the story, and live music is as much about the interaction between audience and the artist. Not even a "Hey, Baltimore!" type of introduction. The same rang true for the other acts, though Ira did some talking for YLT, and Victoria did a little bit for Beach House, too. I thoroughly enjoyed the music - I love Lower Dens' rhythm and hypnotic melodies, YLT is among my favorite bands (I wish they'd played more than 7 songs), and Beach House is the quintessential modern Baltimore band with some delightful earbugs. The only other complaint I had was that it was almost too loud when Beach House came on. Their light show was, however, amazing, and I wish every band would have as much fun with their presentation.

Beach House gave an incredible performance at the Wilbur Theatre! Their setlist was well thought out, and they performed each song fantastically. The centerpiece, Victoria Legrand, was an ethereal haunting beauty as always, and her vocals were husky and fragile yet soaring. She and Alex did a great job of translating their complex recorded sound into a live venue and I was genuinely impressed by the acoustics (I was standing only a few yards away from the band). The audience was fantastic, the songs were awesome. All in all, an unforgettable night.

I saw beach house in oakland at the fox theatre, and the combination of the venue and the atmosphere made an amazing night. I was about 15ft away from the stage, and their stage prescence was great. Their lights went to the beat of every song and accented their music perfectly. It felt as if I were standing in from of gods who were serenading my very soul

Okay, I am a casual fan but i really do love their music. I went to the concert not knowing much about their stage act - the positive is that they sound just like their studio recordings. The negative is that they sound exactly like their studio albums - there is no showmanship and, because they were backlit the entire show, I couldn't even see what they looked like on stage. I think I was spoiled by the Avett Brothers this summer, who gave the best concert I have ever seen - their energy and spirit came through and I walked out with a new appreciation for their music. I walked out of Beach House thinking I could just as easily could have stayed on and listened to their music on a good stereo. So not a bad concert, just not what I expected.

This was my second time seeing Beach House perform... I was weary when I saw they were performing outdoors... Alex and Victoria both have said that they prefer playing music in small indoor spaces because of sound... this is true.. when I saw them at Webster Hall (well over a year ago) it was amazing.... ( Webster Hall is no Bell House but it is intimate) it felt personal and the lighting was beautiful... it was all about the music... you couldn't see much of them... they were covered in smoke and star lights... it was breath taking. So... seeing them in Central Park outdoors in daylight and in the upper east side was extremely different than seeing them at Webster Hall or some place like Music Hall Of Williamsburg at night... it was different and in a good way. The day was disgustingly humid.... I was ridiculously uncomfortable... it felt like the air just stopped... I was perpetually sweating... I was straight up miserable... and seeing all the kind of annoying teens ( or maybe people who just appeared to be teens) all over eachother making or almost having sex while their pupils were either huge or pinpoints put a damper on things. I always make fun of the Williamsburg hipsters... in that moment I wished I was in Williamsburg with the oh so serious hipsters instead of some ( not all) immature kids acting like they were at a Skrillex show... they were hipster models but not actual hipsters.... I admit I really do appreciate the real deal hipsters who claim to hate being called anhipeter. I was all misery but then Lower Dens came on and something happened... I stopped looking at all the girls wearing see thru shirts with their fancy bras showing and their boyfriends who spent 2 hrs making their hair look unwashed make out and dry hump and I smiled the first time that day.... I was transfixed.... Jana's voice blew me away... the music was perfect... and the lead singer was so far from the indie models in the crowd... she was wearing a plain shirt and pants... she was sweating her ass off from performing and put all her energy into everything she was doing and her band did the same... as soon as I got home I requested both their cds from the library. When Beach House came on they killed it.... the sky was getting gray... it was perfect... then the rain started and it only made their performance even better... it was raining hard then the lightening started and they kept doing their thing... I commend them for that. One of my favorite moments was the end when they performed Turtle Island... the hard rain complimented the song like peanut butter to jelly... it was one of the best moments of my life. Suddenly all of the girls who were taking pictures of themselves and putting them on instagram while they were doing one of the most amazing performances ever didn't annoy me anymore.... I was privy to something special and memorable.... my only regret is making my boyfriend bring his Ipad 3 ( to take video) because he had no choice but to use an umbrella to protect his 800 dollar device.... he didnt get to feel the beauty of the pounding rain mixed with the music... it was so refreshing after being tortured by humidity... I also made him hold my purse... poor guy hahaha.

Wow, never in my life did I imagine that Beach House would sound as good as they did. I always thought Victoria's voice was so distinct and different that it wouldn't compare to her recordings, but I was extremely wrong. She sounded spot on. Alex was incredible as well. I prefer being up front for concerts. There are certain instances that it is impossible. Usually I am with someone who is not that interested in arriving 4-5 hours before a concert. The Beach House concert was one of those times. I was actually glad I was not up front. As always, Beach House put on a spectacular show. Victoria's voice is so haunting yet beautiful. Three fluorescent light up tipis flashed on stage as well as star like lights. You could not get the full experience of the light show up close against the barrier free stage. Sadly, the light show rarely showed the band's faces. I came out of the show set list free, but 100% satisfied with the concert and performances.

Beach House might not be a band I d be really into. They came up really big in 2010 and I could probably have seen them at a festival but it wasn t really much that I could get into. Not that I don t listen to a whole lot of sleepy or strange music, it s just tricky to mix the two. Beach House just hadn t really appealed much to me before. But the girlfriend was really into their Teenage Dream and of course had to go to the show, and of course I went along. I listened to the album a lot leading up to the show and I can t say that I fell in love with it (at least not as much as she was) but I found some great stuff in it, especially Norway. It s only as sleepy as you let it be, and you could say that it s strange (is the singer a chick or a dude or some inter-dimensional alien?) but that s also its greatest strength. It s different, it s unique. The show itself wasn t much beyond the sound on the album, just three people on stage and a lot of pre-programmed stuff, with lots of lights behind some shaped props (probably to show that this was a band that deserved a slot at a bigger place and to make up some of the extra money in the budget for the tour), but for a run-through of the high-points of the record, that was enough for the crowd. And for us. Even for me, who let the music carry me away (until those lights brought me back down again).

Performances of both Romantic States and Beach House were phenomenal! The sound in the theatre is INCREDIBLE!!! The theatre itself is like stepping into an actual palace. Positively gorgeous. Both bands seriously outdid themselves in their performances. Best show of either band that I have ever seen. My only complaint is to Kings Theatre in that why bother to have seats if you are not going to enforce that people actually SIT in them during the main band performance? There was a super tall guy in front of me and I could BARELY see the show. If I wanted to stand for the entire performance, I would have bought a PIT ticket when I had the chance to do so, but I bought a SEAT ticket so I could SIT during the performance.

Beach House's music was perfect. That's what made this event amazing. The venue was a bit warm, though, and visibility was tough, especially for people of below-average height. The speakers were very loud and the sound quality was high. The lights added quite a bit to the show as well. The opening act, Entrance, was, like most opening acts, not very good. He was certainly a competent guitar player, but the vocals were just not good enough for someone who has devoted his life to being a singer/songwriter. Just like how Hulu lets subscribers pay extra to not have to watch ads, I wish bands would let concert-goers pay extra to avoid having to experience the opening artist.

I've wanted to see Beach House for a few years now and it hadn't ever worked out. I finally got to see them at the Buckhead Theatre and they did not disappoint. In fact, they exceeded my expectations. Gorgeous, atmospheric music, wonderful vocals, and great backdrop lights/art projected that added to and didn't distract from the music. My only complaint has nothing to do with the artists themself, it was that more than a few jerks in the crowd were talking and laughing loudly during my favorite songs, which are sacred to me. They can go to H E double hockey-sticks. But Beach House was heaven on earth, and my fiance who doesn't even listen to them regularly enjoyed the concert greatly. I enjoyed the show from both the balcony and then the crowd on the main level. Had a smile on my face the whole time and am still walking on a cloud.

...it was an otherwise forgettable show. I'm a big fan of Beach House. I own everything they've ever recorded, and I was really looking forward to their show. Bottom line: they sounded terrific, but in just about every other way, I was bored to death. I know their music is somewhat dark and brooding, or if you don't like those words, atmospheric. I wasn't looking for a kinetic performance. That said, this was one of the least interactive shows I've ever been to. I liked their lighting design, but not once did we get a good look at the musicians. Worse than that, their lighting director and backstage manager turned the Ryman Red-Coats (the ushers) into full-on Nazis. I don't like people using their phones to either record or exchange messages during a performance. But this was over the top. The ushers were instructed to actively pursue anyone who used their phone for any reason during the show because it would have theoretically messed with the lighting design. What was far worse than messing with the lighting design, was the number of times an usher loudly came into the crowd to tell them to put their phone away. That was way more distracting than the phones themselves. I'm all for bands making an announcement about not wanting video to be taken of the show and their encouragement to the crowd to "be in the moment with the band". I totally get that and support it. But at least make the announcement. As it was, the band and their stage manager came off as divas, and they put the ushers in a bad spot. It also affected the show. Ironic, to say the least. The band is obviously composed of good musicians, and they did sound good. I just think they need to rethink their approach to a live show. As good as the music was, I'll always remember this one as a pretty lifeless show.

The opening act was just okay, nothing special. Beach house was great. Their lights and sets are spectacular. The show was just really good, really true to who they are as artists and really chill.

They played beautifully, as I knew they would. But they were completely lacking in showmanship. They didn't chat or engage with the audience in any way and started with very mellow music. Not a great idea at 10:20pm on a Monday night. It was kinda like listening at home but really loud. Also, the beer selection at the Venue is just shocking. Why don't they have a handful of delicious local beers? There's really no excuse for that anymore. We didn't even stay until the end.

This was an incredible show filled with good song list, great people, and sweet vibes! I even got to have a sing along with the concert goers next to me. It was such a blast when it started to rain it felt good.

Went to see Beach House at Central Park Summerstage with my husband and brother(s)-in-law. In the end I was tired and soaked but had the time of my life. They gave a great performance and was all worth it. The crowd was cool and calm but jammed packed by the end of the night. We left after an hour and 15 minutes into their performance that was around 10:15 and they were still playing (may have played another 5 songs). GREAT TIME

Admittedly, I went to this show because my boyfriend loves Beach House. (To me, they sound as if a bunch of old porcelain dolls started up a band in an old lady's tea room. Sweet but creepy.) I was sort of surprised that I liked the songs and danced around the bit. But still, this show was not goosebump inducing. I could have played the record loudly at home for the same experience. The backlit stage made it nearly impossible to see--I have no idea how many folks were on the stage due to that fact plus the amount of umbrellas that popped up when it started to rain. It was still fun to hear and the ambiance was a nice experience. I'd recommend them to anyone who never saw them before, but I probably wouldn't go see them again.

I was worried about experiencing them for the first time outdoors. I was ready for Beach house's sound not to be as good as a more intimate indoor setting.. but it was just perfect. Victoria's voice is even better live. and then came the rain.. and it was all so MAGICAL.

Nice venue. Beautiful older building. Sound was pretty solid and volume was good, even for an old guy like me.

For this type of music, some people like to take drugs to enjoy it. I did not need the help of drugs to enjoy this concert. One of the best shows I've seen since moving to Columbus 3 years ago. "Bloom" is a wonderful album. Do yourself a service and listen to their stuff and go to their shows. The opener, Wild Nothing, was also very good. I would check them out as well.

On Thursday, July 19th, The House Of Blues welcomed Beach House to Cleveland. Beach House is one of the truly great Indie groups playing today and they only added to their lore at HOB. For those of you who haven t yet heard Beach House s ethereal sound, you re in for a very pleasant surprise. The crowd at the HOB certainly thought so and they let the band know it in no uncertain terms. Victoria Legrand, the lead singer and keyboardist for the 2 person band from Baltimore, is becoming one of the great female lead vocalists in rock. Her sensuous, ruminating vocals drift through the haze and soar through the choruses, reaching heavenly heights on songs like Silver Soul , Myth , Used To Be and 10 Mile Stereo . The music can be classified as mellow and yet it has an underlying urgency that makes it timeless and difficult to classify.

The music was awesome, there is no denying that, but the lights always kept the musicians in the shadows. Also, they didn't talk too much and I kind of like seeing how the artists interact with the audience. There wasn't much of that going on so it was a tiny bit disappointing. Overall an awesome concert with talented musicians.

With their down-tempo beats, organs that produce beautiful soundscapes and well-placed guitar riffs that take the song to the next level, Beach House is truly amazing. The lights show was very fitting to the overall ascetic of the night as well. I would totally go to a Beach House show every night if by some strange circumstance they were playing in my living room.

Beach House have a great live presence. Victoria's vocals were spectacular as always. The only complaint I have about this concert is that the volume they played at took away from the sort of feel that their studio recordings have. Wild Nothing opened for them, and they had an awesome, powerful live show, probably the highlight of the concert for me.

It was my first time seeing both Wild Nothing and Beach House. I am a fan of both, but mainly Beach House. They both put on good sets. But, Beach House was excellent. Victoria was not very talkative, but i rather hear her through her great powerful songs. They played songs from all of their albums. I feel in love with the song "Gila" all over again from the album Devotion. But most of the songs were from the albums, Bloom and Teen Dream. I enjoyed the experience very much. I recommend see Beach House to anyone who likes or loves them. I would go see Beach House again without a doubt.
