From the set that looked like any of my classrooms from 15 years of parochial education to the habit worn by the Sisters of St. Francis and the Dominican nuns it was all too real! This one woman show was funny, funny, funny because "Sister's" interaction with audience members reminded me of episodes I experienced from the perils of gum chewing, talking in class, not following classroom rules to inappropriate dress. Sister hit all of the highlights of being educated by nuns and some of the old Catholicism beliefs. I loved it and thought the actress playing "Sister" was excellent, and played the role to a T that I wasn't sure if she was a real nun or not. Loved it - Loved it! I also must say how much I love the Hammer Theater. It is conveniently located to parking, restaurants and public transportation. MOST important to me is how comfortable the seats are. I have stopped going to SF, because the theaters there have seats that are miserably uncomfortable, the seats are ridiculously close to the seat in front and behind. I am considered petite, but even for my short legs, my knees are touching the seat backs of the row in front of my seat. I have back issues and find the seats in SF so horrible, I can not sit through a whole show. The Hammer Theater is a wonderful venue to enjoy excellent entertainment. Thanks so much for providing outstanding events to San Jose audiences!

I've seen Late Nite Catechism several times and it never fails to make me laugh and provide me with additional information about the Catholic Church. You don't have to be Catholic to enjoy it! The humor is universal.

Our group of 8 cousins attended the 5:00 show and had a ball! We all grew up Catholic, with most of us attending Catholic schools. The humor was great, the audience interaction was especially enjoyable. Several of us were "called out" by Sister. It was light humor that didn't offend, which we all really appreciated.

It was an ok show. Funny enough but I thought it would be funnier considering all the funny adult-type (i.e., "blue") things that can be said about the Catholic Church.

One person liked it one person didn't. I was not raised Catholic but my husband was. I think it is better for you to have gone to catholic school to appreciate the humor but the show was done well enough that it was still funny. Oddly enough, I enjoyed it more than my husband. Very audience interactive. But the second act sort of fizzled with the q&a.

Small crowd! 17 to be exact which I'm sure impacted laughs due to participation. Definitely brought up some fond memories of attending Catholic School! Sure hope the request for donations at the end for retired nuns was legit! Requested a picture with "Sister" after the show which she did out of obligation I'm sure! Very unfriendly-walked away without a word! Wish we had spent the same amount for another show at Second City!

Actress did a great job even if there were only 12 people in the audience. Made us all laugh multiple times. Hard to do without the energy of more people. She got ALL of our names and kept referring to us by name even as we left the theater. She turned a production into an intimate comedy gathering. Good for her!

Late Nite Catechism, Royal George on Halstead, is one-of-a-kind . The humor, the personal interaction, the sense of love and laughter and reflection is high. Cozy studio "classroom". If you are feeling bold, reserve your seats in the front row. Doesn't matter. If you're out of line, the nun will find you. Just a brilliant, funny, clever and remarkable show. Highly recommended ! ! ! Arrive early for parking, or, we successfully parked down the street a ways, and took a cab the rest of the way ! Lots of cabs available in the area.

This was something different from the usual improv you find around Chicago, so in that sense it was good. I went in not expecting much, which helped. A little background on the Catholic church helps in liking the humor, but is not required. It was a show where I'd chuckle every 5 minutes or so, not one where I'd have my side hurting from it being so hilarious. It's in support of the Catholic church, so you won't find any deeply discriminating jokes, but it's kind of fun and refreshing to not have all nasty humor. Overall, decent for getting discount tickets - would recommend to someone that went to Catholic school for a little "blast from the past."

The show was very good and funny. There should an age limit for this show. There was a 6 year old and a 8 year old at the show and I think the material was not all heard because of this. It is worth seeing for a fun night out. Theatre is very small so get tickets early.

It was great! The nun did a fantastic job and we laughed the entire evening. She was the best!!! Although the seating had a lot to be desired! I realize we were in a classroom, but the seats would be better if they had some padding! I realize the show has nothing to do with the cleanliness of the theatre, but the bathrooms need to be cleaned

This was a great choice of theater for a relaxed, intimate evening of comedy. The concept is great - whether you attended Catholic grammar school or not - you are the classroom and the solo actress, is your teacher, or Sister, for the evening. Our actress was really great - indistinguishable from the real thing. She walked the right line between making us feel like we were all about to get in big trouble, and addressing our naughty, unCatholic behavior. It was a perfect time capsule, full of laughs and ironies, of Catholic school in its mid-century hey day. There were very few people there that evening, which made it more intimate and fun. Loved the set - fantastic stroll back in time. Loved our "Sister". The only criticism -- while I know this is a long-running show, some of the "current" references and comedic punch lines needed a little updating. They gave away the slightly dated origin of the writing. But we loved being a part of the show, and the overall civility and humanity of it. The hard edge and deep concept of modern theater, while thought provoking, isn't so relaxed and enjoyable. This is respectful and a lot of fun. I expected something harder edged and racy..and really enjoyed the "nice" quality compared to most of what is out there.

Having grown up with 12 years of Catholic education and being taught by nuns over many of those years, many of the memories of those years are relived with a lot of humor. It's a one nun show, but with lots of interaction with the audience in a very intimate theater. Don't be late or sister will fine you and make you apologize to the rest of the "class."

This was by far the funniest show we have seen in years. The fun started even before the show started with a trip to the ladies room. It made the waiting so pleasurable. The "matron" kept in the theme of the evening and had everyone laughing. The show was absolutely hilarious from the moment it started until the very end. Audience participation made the evening. You did need to know a bit about Catholic schools and/or CCD classes to understand all of the jokes. Highly, highly recommend this show as well as the regular Late Night Catechism

Sister had two Carol Burnett moments when she had to turn her back to compose herself...one was when the answer to Easter Duty was "when I get my Easter basket done by noon." But she never wavered with her witty comeback that was very funny but non-down putting to respondent. Deep theological truths in memorable easily recalled smiling context. A must for all members of the body of Christ to experience.

Celebrated a few birthdays in a group of 10. The evening was pure fun and joy. We were pleasantly surprised with the Royal George theater in itself. Super clean, cute, and loved everything about it. No one knew what to expect, but the evening with Sister Mary had all of us (age 16 - 83 in our group) belly laughing. The show was fantastic and reasonably priced for great entertainment. Interactive comedy in a catholic classroom in an intimate theater room of approx. 75 people. Catholic or not, no matter...all will enjoy this show. Next door to theater is another pleasant surprise...the Balena restaurant. Went to dinner there after the theater and it was again perfect for our group. Great food/pizza/bar/ambiance.

A delightful evening! Although not of a Catholic background personally, I have heard so many humorous stories from my wife and other friends and acquaintances regarding their parochial school experiences. I believe that the evening included at least a small portion of each story, so the experiences must certainly have been universal! It was enlightening, however, as to the audience's lack of knowledge as it pertained to Catholic theology! I believe that most of them are due for a refresher course!

This play was hysterical, and the performer was outstanding. Although she had a script to follow, she deviated constantly to involve the audience, and her improv skills were amazing! I completely recommend this to everyone...no matter your religion....it is 2 hours of forget your woes, and laugh, and be thoroughly entertained. The theater is perfectly conducive to comfort and visibility. And for those interested, the bar is inside the theater room....one does not have to wander but a few steps.

We had heard great things about the show. Found it cute and nostalgic, but much was ho hum. Was anxious to leave long before it was over. We enjoyed the audience interaction, but after a while, wondered what was the point.

I drove all the way from Michigan to see this show and it was well worth the trip. Sister was amazing and gave the audience a sense of what it might have been like to attend Catholic School.

A quaint and intimate theater. The "nun" is really funny...and certainly if you are Catholic or know anything about it, it is even funnier. She gets the audience involved and it makes it all that more funny. I highly recommend it. Stop in Old Town for a meal and beverage...it is also fun to visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed this well thought out and funny trip back to our Catholic education classes - for us who had them. the sisters did a great job of using the same silly thoughts and phrases we all know.

This show was hilarious. If you went to a Catholic grammar school you will get many of the jokes immediately. If you did not, have no fear you will still laugh your butt off. Plus you can order beer, wine, cocktails and enjoy them during the show. Whats better than that??

What a great was to reminisce the old days. As funny as it seems Catholic school really did happen! This is not a play rather than a real life depiction! I remember being afraid of the nuns and this brings it all back in a comical way. The actress was hysterical and it was still contemporary. Please see this play if you want to see why the world is like it is now without as much religion on the schools

Loved the show. The sister sure made it feel like we were in a real class. She yelled at someone because they didn't put her reading materials and phone away. To say the least the lady walked out because she was mad. Was funny

The Sunday matinee audience was very small, but that meant that everyone got to participate in this interactive play. It was intimate, engaging, and very funny, especially for a "cradle Catholic." Even those not Catholic seemed to enjoy the fun.

Most fun we had all weekend. Sister rolled with the crowd. Much of the humor didn't require, say, a Catholic education or upbringing, but there were some priceless undertones if you had.

This show was extremely enjoyable. I brought my wife and Mom to the show with some apprehension. My wife is Jewish and my mom is very Catholic. The Sister did a great job of keeping the show funny, informing, and walking a fine line between being self-deprecating towards the Church and respectful. I was laughing the the entire two hours and she kept the audience engaged. Even with an audience member being respectful she made sure to control the class and keep it funny. I loved the show, my wife really enjoyed it and from what I can understand my Mom did too. Everyone in the audience was laughing. I already recommended it to friends and can very easily see how this show has continued since the 90s. Favorite moment: After 'having fun' with people that came late to the show because they were getting a pedicure. She asked them at the end of the show why they were here, they said to celebrate their 40th birthdays and they were out of town (i.e., including getting a pedicure). You could almost see the Sister being apologetic/sympathetic with her eyes. Honestly she is a truly good-hearted person.

Spending an evening in catechism class with Sister was very entertaining. She engaged the audience fully and never lost character. Beware of being late or misbehaving in class! Sister will call you out. Little prizes for correct answers added to the fun. You won't regret seeing this great show.

It was sort of funny. The actress did well by herself but you had to be Catholic to get the jokes. I felt it was over priced but maybe that's a Chicago thing. I wouldn't go again but it may be worth it once if you're a Catholic.

This show was filled with audience participation. As long as there are a few willing people in the crowd it will be a lot of fun. The actress or as we were required to call her "sister" did a great job playing off of what happening in the audience without skipping a beat. It is all about poking fun at Catholics, but it was always good natured and not demeaning. I didn't grow up Catholic, but still thought it was funny. Those who are Catholic will be rolling on the floor.

Treat yourself to happy & funny step back into childhood.
