Friday: Beck Killed it and great light work on the face of the Government Center building. Saturday: decent weather, Tove Lo rocked the crowd, great night. Sunday: Amazing weather, very mellow and low key artists, TV On the Radio put on an entertaining show and Tenacious D had the most memorable show of the entire weekend.

Sunday's opener, Boston based originals, Martin Earley (Guitar, Lead Vocals), Devin Mauch (Percussion, Harmony Vocals) & Calin (Calie) Peters (Cello, Harmony Vocals), definitely left their folk rock mark at Boston Calling. Opening with ARCHERS, and working song to song through a journey from their recently released full length CD, A WOLF IN THE DOORWAY, the tight 3 part harmonies and unique percussive rhythms emersed an eager crowd of an ever increasing fan base in talented delivery. Among the highlights, were WILD WOMAN, OARS TO THE SEA, OAK, LANTERN each to its own motif and genre, everything with BALLROOM THIEVES precision. The closing number, WOLF left concert goers wanting more... surely BURY ME SMILING would have made an exceptional encore, if festival rules permitted. Not one listener was let down by the excellence of musical thievery, Boston hearts have been stolen.

This was my first east coast music festival and I was not disappointed. The ticket prices were reasonable, the venue was easily accessible by public transportation and most importantly, the artists were absolutely amazing!! There were plenty of vendors, bathrooms and nice people as well. Overall, a very well organized and unforgettable weekend!

aside from the amazing line-up, the sound quality was phenomenal. and the punctuality of performances left no long wait in between acts. one band after the other after the other made the days flow into the nights beautifully. looking forward to the next one!

Small cramped space for a music festival, almost impossible to switch between stages for different acts. Beer garden on sides makes things more complicated than they need to be.

With that about 20k people there, there was no way you'd not meet some amazing ones. So on top of the great music there was an amazing crowd. I loved all the bands, so it must've been a given that I'd enjoy myself there, but if I had to pick a favorite it'd be Matt and Kim. The rain didn't even ruin my day, that's how awesome it had to have been for everyone to ignore the crappy weather. Can't wait for September.

Overall the two day event was pretty amazing for a first time concert-goer like myself. The second day was not as good as the first but was still pretty decent due to the performances by Ra Ra Riot and Of Monsters and Men.

This was my third time attending Boston Calling, and while I've loved every one I've been to, this one was definitely my favorite. The lineup was really solid and every band delivered an incredible performance. It's now been a week and I still can't stop thinking about it and smiling. It was truly a fun and beautiful weekend and I know I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Boston Calling puts on a good urban festival experience. They moved the dates to later in September this year, I believe to attract more college students. This definitely showed and I felt like Saturday was far more crowded than past Boston Callings. Sunday's crowd was much more laid back. The amount of food vendors, beer vendors, and bathrooms were very adequate for the crowds and I never had to wait more than a few minutes for anything. There were plenty of open spaces, TVs, and games too for anyone that needed a break from the standing-room crowds. Seeing the bands, as with any GA show or festival, required some strategizing and spot-saving for the more popular acts, for example I ended up missing Chvrches set to stake out a good spot for Alt-J. Performance-wise, all the acts were at the top of their game. The bill was a good mix of indie and electronic flavored acts on Saturday and rock/soul acts on Sunday. Father John Misty and Walk the Moon were surprise hits for me. The real draw for me was Alt-J, the Saturday headliner. Hozier and Alabama Shakes were also amazing, although I was a tad disappointed that Alabama Shakes didn't play more from their first record. Overall great experience and looking forward to the line-up for Boston Calling VII.

I don't understand what happened with Alabama Shakes - there was painful feedback and Brittany's voice is so awesome that I was crushed when it happened during their set! The last one of the entire weekend. What about a feedback eliminator or something. Otherwise, the lineups and music were fantastic, per usual.

My favorite artists all had some amazing performances. However, I dropped it down one star because there were way too many people in there and not enough space around the stages for each performance - everyone had to pack together like sardines and even then you couldn't see anything and there were people who still could only stand far off and just listen. I think the performance area needs a better design to accommodate for the ridiculous amount of people they let in. Of course, this was only an issue for the major headliners that started in the late afternoon.

All right, so this was my first music festival. I wanted to go specifically to see Hozier, because he wouldn't be coming to my area any time soon. So, I decided to fly out to Boston and grab a ticket. I did this about two/three weeks before the actual concert. So I spent about 500 bucks getting the ticket and the flight and food and that good stuff. Five days before, they post the lineup. Maybe it's because I'm new to this sort of thing, but it seems that should've gone up way earlier. I live in DC and have a full time job and graduate school I have to get to, so I bought a flight for 9 PM that Sunday night. Big mistake, because Hozier went on at 8:15. No way I could have made my flight if I wanted to go see him. Tried to change the flight, but no dice. I wouldn't have spent so much money to go and see bands that I'm not as fond of if I had known. Boston Calling, please release your set list earlier than five days beforehand - some of us have lives to plan for! Otherwise, this was a nice event in a fairly safe area of the city.

I liked Ben Howard before the show and by the end absolutely loved him. I will say right away that I only went to this concert to see Ben Howard but we were there all day Sunday..daughter was great. Very "real" . I have to say that once it got dark and the music began there were times when the smell of marajuana was very overwhelming and we were there with a ten year old. I'm not sure how they can control this but it was heavy at times. Now I'm over 50 and the general age was mid 20's so I do think the smoke was most likely welcomed or at least not an issue. My concert partner made a funny statement, "I feel like we have entered a giant urban outfitters" (mid 20's..lol)...everyone was dressed in their clothing. I thought the selection of food was really really good. I was impressed and I'm very picky and like to eat healthy and there were good options.

It did not feel like there was much variety or diversity in the artists who performed. I have been to several other BC events and this was the least exciting. The music was good, I didn't really observe any poor performances, it just was not very different from performance to performance.

Lineup was very weak this time around. I skipped Friday and only saw the headliner Sunday, Alabama Shakes. Having said that, they were awesome, and Sat had a lot of good acts, particularly Chvrches and Father John Misty. I think I got my money's worth, but it was not as overwhelmingly good as some of the previous ones. I would still buy a discount ticket for next time though, at this point.

As an avid music listener and lover, I found September's Boston Calling weekend to be an absolute blast. Even though there were only a few sets I was desperate to see (Walk the Moon being my #1) I still very much enjoyed being in my element and getting the opportunity to discover new music :) The vendors at the festival were also pretty good. The only thing I would suggest is having the vendors offer more gluten free options. My friend and I are both gluten free so it was difficult finding food there. I would also suggest having a larger supply of Wicked Wines' Pinot Grigio - there was a lot of demand for that but the bars would run out of it quickly so the semi-chilled Chardonnay was the only opton left (for white wine at least). The activities the other vendors had were awesome! So many photo booths and the human Jenga and huge Connect Four were a huge hit. I'm really lookinf forward to the reveal of the May lineup and can't wait to get to the next Boston Calling!

Went to Boston Calling for Sunday only. Not too familiar with most acts past recognizing some names. I'm in my 40s and not in touch many new bands, i went mostly just to see Alabama Shakes. The earlier acts were pretty enjoyable, but the Alabama Shakes were the rock powerhouse I was hoping for! They rocked loud with power & soul, blasting and grooving, crunching and spacing out. Would've busted the moon if the lunar eclipse hadn't beat them to it!

There is plenty of Swag...all day long! The food vendors are also varied and I highly recommend the Flat Bread Pizza and the hand cut French Fries! Plenty of PortaPotties makes for a gereat time!

We went Friday night and bought the VIP tickets because I wanted to be able to sit down from time to time and not have to wait in a long line for drinks and bathroom facilities (ok, porto potties). We hung out up in the VIP lounge for the first act and had a cocktail and our boxed food (pulled pork sandwich, slaw and a cupcake), which was pretty good. Then spent the rest of the evening standing up in the VIP area closer to the stage, which was elevated and to the side of the general admission area. It gave us a pretty good view of the stage. During the transition from second to third act, we went back to the VIP lounge for a drink and to sit down for a few minutes. I was really happy with the high def screens and the terrific sound. The lighting was great too, including the artistic and ever changing light show projected onto City Hall. A great night.

I'm 67yo but have been into Boston Rock since the Boston Tea Party days. Took my granddaughters (13 and 15) to the Sunday show. The younger one and I attended last summer's show, too. The music was great but, and a good mix of styles, because of the younger girls, I was most impressed with the civility of the crowd, the high level of organization, the not-obvious-but always-around security, and in general, the organization annd control of the event. Will attend this fall and next year! Thank You!

The music was amazing but having paid additional money for the VIP area was not worth it. Main VIP area very far from the stages so felt disconnected from the music and the rest of the crowd. City Hall building actually distorted the sound of the music so very muffled when in VIP area. The small VIP staging area near the stage was completely across the venue from the other VIP area and you had to push your way thru the general crowd only to be told the staging area was at max capacity. The 'private' bathrooms were a bank of port-a-lets that were no more clean than the general admission toilets. Bags of chips and protein bars are NOT hors d'oeuvres. I liked the free Polar sodas/seltzers but would have been nice to have better alcohol options. I am not a beer drinker and Wicked Wines were nice but not worth $7/glass. Had a much better time on Friday when I just paid general admission.

Really wanted to see the pixies at this year's Boston calling so I dished out the high cost for the ticket. The whole fest isn't bad, nice set up, free water, food vendors inside, but the pixies had no energy. They stood their for the entire set and added nothing special. They're like robots at Chuck ee cheese with a pixies mix cd playing in the back ground. Overall fest is OK I just feel like I didn't get my money's worth.

The bands were fantastic, the food options were great and the ability to go in and out was a very helpful. However the extra money we paid for VIP felt like a waste and caused our experience to be less than expected. The VIP platform was great to see the JetBlue stage, but without a bathroom in that section it was very frustrating. Walking through the massive crowds to any bathroom, VIP or not, from the platform was extremely difficult. I expected more with the VIP bathrooms too. They ran out of hand sanitizer and toilet paper then at night the lighting was terrible making it more appealing to use the non VIP bathrooms. The "snacks" provided were not what was pictured on the website ahead of time. Half deli sandwiches and cookies were all we saw the entire weekend. The free water was all sparkling and sweet, so I was glad we brought our own plain water for the times we wanted it. The VIP platform also ran out of the free water for those who did want to drink it. Overall I would go back if the line up were worth it, but would not pay extra for the VIP. Bring your own earplugs if you plan to see a show from the platform.

Other than Saturday's grossly hot heat and sudden downpour, an awesome weekend with a good variety of bands. Childish Gambino killed it on Saturday. Twenty One Pilots put on one of the most energetic and entertaining shows I've ever seen. The Roots killed it to end the weekend with an Epic set and monster performance making Jimmy Fallen proud. One of the best parts about the festival is that you can come and go as you please. I give huge props to the staff and security on Saturday for handling the crowd during the storm calm and collectively ensuring everyone was safe and got back into the show. The only thing this festival may be missing is a comedy act!

This was my third time at Boston Calling, but the first time I went more than one day. So many artists put on great shows, especially Neutral Milk Hotel, The National, Bleachers, Lorde, and The War on Drugs. The crowds were awesome as well, with everyone in good spirits and friendly. I find Future Islands offensively bland and couldn't care less about the National so we showed up for Neutral Milk Hotel and left when they were done, but NMH was great as they seem to always be, although with less time to play than usual so the set was not quite as long as normal. Not the venue or events fault but it is annoying how no one under 30 can be off their smartphones for 5 seconds without getting the shakes. Also kind of annoying when they lack the awareness of the fact that it's not cool to leave your flash on while videotaping your 30 second clips of a band playing in the middle of one of their songs. Awesome show for NMH though.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros kicked off the first night with such an amazing entertaining real performance. Walk off the Earth is now my absolute favorite band!! Literally all I want in life now is a chance to sing with them! They were so incredible. Not to mention I got to see the beautiful Jenny Lewis perform for the first time! The show was incredible! I was there from 130 till close which was around 1030 and it only got better as the day went, more people showed, and the bands got better. The venue was perfect for an outdoor rock festival, I imagine Woodstock was something like this but with more drugs. Beers were $7 a pop so not bad at all and day drinking on a beautiful day in the heart of boston surrounded by amazing people and amazing music is the way to enjoy a good Sunday buzz. I hope to make it back in September with even more people! Brand new, modest mouse, and tegan and Sara totally killed it. Top 5 shows for me!

Very nice festival, just went one day, Sunday. Because there were two stages, acts were continuous so you didn't have to wait. The day I went was sold out and I think they sold too many tickets because it was super packed. There was food available in the venue but it was expensive. The nice thing is you could leave and come back if you wanted to. The most popular acts were at night, my favorite performer being Tegan and Sara. For the most popular acts, you had to work your way to the front or else you would be pretty far away. Also, it was hard for me to see since I am so short. I would recommend this festival but make sure to look up the artists before you go.

I love Boston Calling and we always go. They did some changes from Fall of 2013 to Spring of 2014 which I'm sure could be argued as pros or cons. I did not like the changes at all. 1. They moved the stages closer together. This could be a pro for the fact that you didn't have to move very much to see either stage. However what it also meant was that everyone was packed in so tight the entire day. There was no flow like last year. It lost the festival feeling and just became a huge floor crowd. 2. They did away with the beer garden and put beer tents everywhere. While most beer drinkers would celebrate not having to be penned separately to drink, what this meant for the rest of us was that there were literally hundreds of drunk stumbling beer drinkers sloshing beer all over the rest of us. It was gross. These were people who had clearly been drinking since the moment the gates opened until the very last beer was sold (and as of 9:30 that night they were still selling). I repeat, it was gross. 3. Where was Kickass Cupcakes???!!! Overall we love Boston Calling because it's always fun to see bands you like plus see bands you've never heard of. But this Spring really lost the laid back quality it always had and became a kill or be killed to even find a place to stand.

The variety of artists in one place was incentive enough for me to purchase a 2 day pass. This was the most fun "festival" i have ever attended because it was so much of an anti-festival! The production had all the best aspects of a traditional festival and none of the annoying tribulations. Firstly, we were allowed re-entry! AND I wasn't unnecessarily searched when ever i re-entered the concourse! We were able to leave after Jenny Lewis, have a fancy Italian dinner in the north end, and then we were re-fuled and ready to rock for Death Cab! The sound was perfect, the video monitors enhanced the experience and the people were respectful. It was just a great gathering of happy friends and beautiful music. The lines for the bathroom (porta pottys---blah i know--- were cleaned every night and ample in number) and beer were very short.

This show was great. There was a great mix of well known artists and smaller ones just getting their start. Every performance was amazing. My only complaints were the amount of people made it hard to see the blue stage because of the way it was set up. Also the beer made the event challenging for people who weren't drunk. Getting run into by drunk people and beer spilled on me was definitely not a highlight but the concert itself was great.

As a short person, it's almost impossible to get a glimpse of the stage or even the screens. You also need to stand pretty close to the stage to get the full effect of the acoustics. Solid festival! Great artist lineup... some big names and lots of lesser-known artists that I immediately found online after the concert for more of their stuff. Not the normal multi-stage festival I expected: Artists play in sort of a rally, back and forth between the two stages. Somewhat more formal feeling than other festivals like Lalapalooza, but nice because you have the chance to hear EVERY artist on the list because there is no overlap.

The September event was well worth the money. 20 bands over 2 days, very well organized, and loved how short the gaps were between sets. There was plenty of food, drink, and random fun and free stuff to do within the gates, and the fact that re-entry was allowed was great. Staff was mostly friendly unless they needed to be tough, and the crowd seemed to be pretty respectful throughout. I have to say I watched around 16 out of the 20 bands, and I was incredibly impressed with both who I went to see and so many others I'd never heard before. They really picked well. My only real complaint is how big of a block of techno/electronica/house/DJs there was on Sunday- it was really fun at the first set but I felt super burnt out on it once the second act of that genre went on. Obviously this is personal preference and there were a ton of people watching, but I wish it was even just broken up a bit throughout the day. But really overall, this was one of the best weekends of my summer!

I have been to both the Boston calling concerts and I will say without a doubt that although the first one was really great, the second one was incredible. The weather was a lot more agreeable this time, the music was perfect for dancing and the length and flow of the acts from stage to stage was flawless. My boyfriend comes up to visit every BC weekend and it's now become our favorite parts of the summer start and ending. Can't wait for next memorial weekend!

The whole event was great, almost no lines for beers, plenty of space, and a great set list on Saturday.

Insane. Both days were unreal. I really liked the difference in performers on both days. They brought two totally different crowds that were both really fun. Also the events accessibility was great. Getting in and out was a breeze and it was in a prime location for getting food. It's also really close to North Station. All around it was a very well planned event with great acts. I can't wait for the spring line up.

After attending the first ever Boston Calling, held in May, it was an absolute must that I returned in September. The lineup featured even bigger names than before, including Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend, and Kendrick Lamar. The weather was great and the new layout of the festival was more convenient this time. Not a single act failed to impress the crowd; Major Lazer, in particular, was the one band able to make all 30,000 of us twerk like there was no tomorrow. The entire City Hall Plaza was filled with energy and passion. And the best part- I somehow managed to stay in the center of the front row the entirety of both days. I would never have expected to make new friends so quickly, especially during the middle of a music festival. Boston Calling was the highlight of my year by far and I will be returning to each and every one in the future.

A great lineup for the weekend! Loved the two stages, made it so the whole day was non stop music and there wasn't really a bad spot anywhere to view either stage. Loved being able to leave and come back as you wanted. Even though there were a ton of people, lines weren't too bad at all.

This was an in unfathomable, unforgettable, and unimaginable experience. The only thing that wasn't done to perfection was the weather, but even that didn't bring anyone down. This festival was everything one could imagine, an incredible lineup, wonderful stage performances from all acts, and everything was on time without error. This is the first of many in the future, a huge success, and if I oculus relive those two nights... I wouldn't even hesitate to go back.

I think the venue for an outside show was great. Too bad the weather was less than optimal but the organizers did their best to make it bearable. The bands were great, I was really impressed by some of the acts. I had never heard of Ms Mr and thought they were pretty good. Matt and Kim were outrageous and fun, got the whole crowd going wild. Portugal. the Man rocked it completely. Andrew Bird was great. The National always worth seeing. Overall, it was a great weekend of music.

The nice thing about Boston Calling is that because it is a smaller festival with only two stages, you are able to see every single act. With the larger festivals, you have to elect which artist to see since multiple sets run at the same time. Everything ran smoothly regarding set time and length-- it seemed like a well-oiled machine. The staffing, on the other hand, was pretty horrible. The workers seemed confused, and some were so pushy/in your face that they took away from the experience. Also, I went VIP and there really wasn't a benefit to it...The food was terrible, and the lines for the GA porta potties ended up being shorter in between sets than in VIP! It was ridiculous.

I thought the concert was very well organized and everything ran smoothly. There were several food options, plenty of restrooms, etc. Marina and the Diamonds and St. Vincent were fantastic, but I was blown away by MØ. I didn't know much about her going in, but her energy was incredible. I've never been to Boston Calling before, but now I can't wait for September!

The show was great, there was a lot of freebies being given out at sponsor tents and the artists were all wonderful. My one complaint was that they should have had a third stage to rotate between, because as the day got longer it got harder to get around between the two crowds standing back to back. All in all it was a good day, and they had great food.

We attended this festival to see My Morning Jacket. I purchased two Saturday VIP tickets. For the experience of seeing My Morning Jacket, the festival was AMAZING. However, the extra money spent to have access to the VIP extras was poorly executed. It would have been useful to have a map of inside of the festival to see where VIP access was. We did not find out until 8:00 PM that we could have sat next to the stage. The only benefit of the extra $200 to be VIP that we received were two free Polar waters. I wish I did not pay for VIP access. Otherwise, I had a great time listening to the music

My 17 year old daughter has been attending Boston Calling since the very first one. She loves concerts but Boston Calling is a must for her, she hasn't missed one yet! This year she got a 3 day pass for her birthday. She was excited to see BECK on Friday night but had no one to go with. So she called her friend from the Cape (a friend she made at the first September Boston Calling) and he met her at the festival. Not only is she making memories but she has made many good friends to last a lifetime! Thank you to all involved in making the Boston Calling Music Festival great time!

The artists played amazing. My issue was with the location, size, and complete lack of festival atmosphere. This should not be labeled a festival because its not a festival. There were no booths or vendors. I felt like a mouse trapped in a cage. Way too small, very boring, but good artists.

Considering Beck's staggeringly diverse output, I had no idea what to expect. I always assume the artist will primarily feature their latest release. I really like the mellow folk of Morning Phase (similar to Sea Change) but was concerned that the natives would get restless if he focused on that. No worries, this was a greatest hits rundown and a great show. I was really looking forward to Sharon Van Etten and Tame Impala. They were great but their sets were way too short. Given the early start time 6:30 and the 2 stages available I expected them to play for at least an hour. Sharon Van Etten came on about 10 minutes early. I have been attending concerts for about 40 years and I have never seen someone come on early. She only played for half an hour. Tame Impale played 10 songs. They only used the one stage. Oh well, it was worth the $50!

As Boston rocked all day with live music at it's core, the crowd was certainly anticipating the best live show they have seen in ages, When The Pixies came out, the energy was unmatched, the music was perfect and the best time was had by all. Pure Love.

I thought the show as a whole on Friday night was very good. Sharon Van Etten was a good opener with a beautiful voice. I wasn't really a fan of the style/singing of Tame Impala as well as their type of performance. Beck was the highlight; he literally brought down the house and had everyone dancing- he's a natural performer.

This was my second time at Boston Calling (the previous time being May 2014), and I'll be heading back in September. It's simply always a good time. And this was no exception. The venue itself--City Hall Plaza--is absolutely unreal, and the festival offers little perks that you don't always get elsewhere (water refilling stations, re-entry Saturdays & Sundays). A lot of people will comment on the flood of hipsters and "corporate culture" of it all--lots of tents offering free marketing perks, and it's hard to miss the JetBlue banners--and I'm sure that turns potential attendees off, but having those partners means they really can deliver on the lineup each year and bring out those big-name artists. The lineup this May was a refreshing mix of up-and-coming artists, big label headliners, and many in-between, but my favorite sets were certainly Beck, Marina & the Diamonds, The Ballroom Thieves, Vance Joy, and the always hilarious Tenacious D. I couldn't make it in from the very start every day--the perk of getting the pre-sale 3-day pass is that you can afford to be more flexible with time--but there wasn't a single artist I actively disliked. And the ones I wasn't crazy about or hadn't listened much to (Tove Lo, St. Vincent) ended up delivering great sets. All in all, it was pretty awesome.

I am embarrassed for this event that they considered what they offered a show of a VIP experience. The 'hor dourves' were freezer food tacos. And a small bag of chips and onion dip. For all the price I paid for VIP -- I couldn't even be treated to a soft pretzel and honey mustard - or any something from the fantastic food vendors that everyone had access to? The seating and lighting was pretty. And had it rained a roof would have been nice for the money. BUT... the acoustics were terrible so we had to go to the general admission area to even hear the show decently.

Tame Impala was AMAZING as usual and it's really cool to see them gain traction. Beck was also great - was not a terribly huge fan until I saw him live! Good call, Boston Calling! I took a star off of my review because of the crowd. They almost ruined it for me. So many people taking snap chats and taking videos with their phones the ENTIRE TIME! Is it really about the music anymore? Extremely disappointing.
