First off, I had a great vantage point from the 5Th row in the orchestra pit. Bought our tickets while in Brazil through Ticketmaster. The stage itself was simple and cool. Lots of images of Brazil projected on the backscreen with a color changing parasail in the foreground. As always Caetano delivered the goods from the moment he opened his mouth. What a voice. Some of the songs he performed from his latest album (zii e zie) are a little eclectic and hard to follow. But there is no denying his talent. As far as I am concerned Caetano has earned the right to a free creative license to do whatever he wants. His voice is like butter and his falsetto leaves you wanting more. By the second half of the show most of the audience was on their feet dancing to many of Caetano's well known standards. Three encores latter and the crowd still wanted more. Brazilian audiences are very enthusiatic--about everything. It is a good thing too because opening night of the Greek theatre was a little on the chilly side. Overall, a fantastic season opener.

The show was amazing. I've listen to Caetano Veloso for years now and I finally got the chance to hear his music live. I was very much entertained. The Greek theater is an amazing place. I recommend this to everyone.

When he came into the stage without even saying hi, the music started playing and he started singing and it was a completely unforgettable experience after that. The lighting mixed with the music was really well pre-produced. He is a really simple guy that likes to share his music with the world, no need to have a stage with lots of decorations, just one hang-glider and a video projection on the back...amazing!

There is no need for words. Caetano is a master! He played mostly new songs, but some of the classics as well. The venue was somehow too blunt for his charisma and energy, but the crowd enjoyed every moment! It was unforgettable...

OK so, it wasn't bad. Terminal 5 needs to spread the sound a little bit. I was hoping that Caetano would have played a longer modern classic Bossa Nova repertoire. After being in an Air concert in terminal 5, I will need a little bit more.

Caetano's quartet, with three young sidemen supporting him gave a master class of total musical artistry. He's a unique musician that covers all bases, from acoustic bossa nova to mega-decibel rock adventures.

Caetano Veloso rolled into New York with a young, three-piece backing band and played a fine set under a hang-glider backdrop. His singing was sharp, and his playing was at ease and he was having a good time dancing about. Although his performance was excellent, I would liked to have seen an opening act or a longer concert (it was one hour and 45 minutes). Also, I would liked to have heard more of his early Tropicalia songs (although he played two from his 1969 album) and more in English because I don't understand Portuguese very well.

the best performance I've seen of Caetano live. Started with an amazing version of A Voz do Morto and played classics as Leãozinho as well as a great cover of Kasiin's song "Água". With Calado on the drums and the amazing Pedro Sá on the guitars you can't go wrong.

Caetano began at 8:15pm on the dot with no introduction. He began to sing as if he was an old friend of yours that you barely had time to miss. He then decided to take you on a journey from Bahia to London and then over to New York circa 1971. By the end he gave three encores and still the crowd was left wanting more.

It was a great show. Caetano deals with the pass of time in an amazing way, still with a perfect but natural voice and plenty of energy. His show was intimate and expressive, showing all his tricks, deploying the simple beauty of his poetry. Nevertheless, the sound of the site was under my expectations.

it was simply sublime. Caetano is a gem. I liked him before, I love him now. You can really describe the magic, you have to be there and be part of that beautiful energy. Happy, loving, giving and above all funny! He's so funny. Dancing with his red polo and his jeans. I have very seen a 67 year old so youthful before. He did not do a show, he was not performing really, he was "being", and what a beaufiful creature. The sound was excellent. He gave all songs a very strong rock edge with the electric guitar: it was really cool and modern.

Seating on chairs was very uncomfortable. Caetano new style singing that he does not like Bossa Nova? Is that middle life crisis? Is that why he has to play so loud with electric guitar choruses as loud as in a hard rock concert..... Definitely not the Caetano Veloso from the 70, 80's, 90's nor even 2000's.

For an international audience, we were expecting a more balanced performance, including some of the new and the old stuff (i.e. bossa nova hits) but Caetano Veloso limited himself to play the whole new album (which, to my opinion, is way below his talents) plus some scattered songs from previous records. Thank God I listened to his new songs before going to the concert because most people were lost and many even left the theatre before the concert was over. His voice is still great but I missed his bossa nova soul. And I wasn't the only one...

the show was not good at all. instead of the singer who is a great one do a show with his most popular songs where everyone came to see and know him for those songs he tried to push his new record songs which first were terrible not successful in any place and totally different from his character and his usual songs. too loud, too much guitar and rock which most people who went there didn't want to see rock we wanted to see Caetano Veloso, so he failed miserably singing some terrible new unpopular songs which were very long and painful to hear. people everywhere started walking out and very dispointed at the show. he sang 2 or 3 old popular songs but he could have done much better and when those singers come abroad they should stick to their most popular songs only not try to push anything new and that it doesn't have any success even in their home country.

In his bio, it says he was born in 1942, but he sings and dances around the stage like the any singer in his prime. The show was one of the best I've seen. He mixed some of the old classic with many new tunes and had a talented accompanying band of three young music players his own son's friends). I had a lot of fun.

I've seen stars of this caliber performing all over. From the majestic energy of multi million dollars productions to I've seen stars of this caliber performing all over the World. From the majestic energy of hundreds of millions of dollars productions to voice and guitar only in smaller venues. I've never experienced the degree of energy coming from the stage as I felt when I had the privilege to attend a Caetano Veloso's concert. No wonder he is one of Brazil's top stars. His music is impecable, his talent barely matched and, on top of it all, based on the oportunity that I had to briefly meet with him backstage, he is also very humble and pleasant. I can't wait to see him back to the US. I strongly recomend!

Caetano Veloso's wonderful voice was overwhelmed by way-too-much extremely loud guitar and percussion. His wonderful voice was virtually lost in much to most of the musical arrangements. What a shame! I found myself actually hoping these raucous pieces would mercifully end sooner than they did. In addition, there were a couple numbers that assaulted our eyes with white lights so extremely bright as to cause some of us in the audience to close our eyes until they ended. Maybe Veloso feels he must, ,for reasons of career survival and success, cater to current audiences' likes and desires for rock-and-roll, Metallica-style,light-show entertainment. In that case, he's compromising and "selling-out" his past musical origins and solid accomplishments. On the other hand, if he truly believes that the above-mentioned majority of his show is his next serious creative stage, then I believe he's lost both his vision and common sense. The show could dramatically be improved simply by lower- ing the volume and eliminating at least one of the two guitars (What on earth are electric guitars doing in a Brazilian music show, anyway?) It's sad that for many of today's audiences and musicians, "louder means better". Great singer, great musician, great performer ---but everything else on stage greatly detracted from the quality of the show and my wife's and my enjoyment of it.

The show was ok. I was dissapointed because Caetano didn't perform so many of his best songs. Songs like Cucurrucucu Paloma were missing. The stage was the most simple I ever saw. And Caetano looks terrible at stage. His clothes was not the appropiate to be on stage. I know that this kind of artist dont use to put focus on fashion but it is just a basic requirement to follow some limits at the time to be performing to any public.

Caetano Veloso ruled the stage with grace and aplomb. His silky voice reached all of its usual highs and lows and while the music was as contemporary and relevant as the most current new artist, his classic smooth style was unmistakeably present in each song. I first saw CV at George Washington U. several years ago and have been a big fan ever since. At first at the Greek, I was disappointed by all the talking, but that comes with outdoor venues. He seemed to take some time to warm up, too, and the concert got better and better as the evening unfolded. Some new songs from his most recent, but some old favorites as well, revealing the true depth and breadth of his talents. Odd that the audience at the indoor venue was far more energized than at the Greek; could it be DC verses LA? He has the stage presence of a cool eighth grade boy, which is refreshing.

What a performance, and what a generous artist. He performed many songs from the new album and many old songs. The crowd was mostly Brazilian, and we all sang the lyrics. His band was young, talented and the rock samba bossa music that Caetano has innovated over his long career is alive and well. He continues to push the musical envelope and grow as artist and master. The only disappointment was that he only performed one song with the classical guitar...I wished for MORE. As much as he has been an innovator on the Brazilian music scene, he is really the next master after Joao Gilberto of the Bossa-Nova. Muito Obrigado Caetano!

This was a wonderfully intimate performance experience - voices and a guitar - sometimes two guitars. My wife and I have seen Caetano many times over the years and we enjoyed his singing and guitar playing here. We loved it that, despite having an opening act, he played a good number of songs. He was the main reason why we came, so were happy about that. It was very enjoyable to see and hear Teresa Cristina and guitarist Carlinhos Sete Cordas for the first time. The theatre sound quality was fine. There are two factors that detracted from the experience: (1) people coming in late during songs (why can't the theatre coordinate with the performers to allow this at only certain times, such as during long transitions between songs?) and (2) seemingly random lighting of the audience. What's that about? It was very distracting.

Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil brought their 50 years of musicality to the Paramount Theatre in Oakland on April 12, 2016. Both sat center-stage, guitars in hand with a beautiful backdrop of Brazilian State flags staged the show. The duo pulled from their expansive catalog of mainly Portuguese sung songs. A total of 26 songs from Back to Bahia to Tropicalia to Sampa to Drao.

My friend and I really enjoyed this concert. We are both Brazilian and we've been fans of Cae for a long time. He is one of the most accomplished musicians imo. We especially enjoyed some old tunes such as "Baby", "leaozinho", and "Eclipse Oculto." some of the newer stuff was good too. We also liked Andrew Bird. they are real musicians, and their music was fun. We could have done without benhart, he was so boring. the dj in the beginning was nice, setting the tone with some braziian tunes.

Amazing blend of original, expansive music--and don't forget DJ Frosty, whose international vibe belied his Angeleno residence. Definitely got us in the mood for Devendra Banhart's playful yet thoughtful music full of quirky personality, Spanish and English. Wish his set had been longer! I admire Banhart's ability to make a personal connection with his huge audience, all the while remaining seated. But if Banhart's set were longer, we wouldn't have experienced all the angles of Andrew Bird and his weird gyrating Spinning Horn that looks like some modern gramophone but takes the plucking and stroking of his violin and swirls it all together in completely unique music, but in the end, traditionally sweet. All leading up to the gracious, undefeated Caetano Veloso. An honor to be in his audience as his modern back up talent made him not only tireless but timeless. What a vocal range this master has, as well as a huge mixed genre of music from romantic to magical to political. Surrounded by Brazilians who knew the lyrics made the evening perfect. Bravo! An amazing blend of musicians.

KCRW really did a programming disservice. 3 openners before the headliner, Caetano Veloso - one of the gods of Brazilian music came on. so he maybe did half a set. ixnay. and the others, though good, were not of the caliber to be at the Bowl - more The Mint or maybe The Bottom Line. what a waste. CV deserved better. so did we as it is an expensive venue.

Very disappointed. Devandra Banhart was self-absorbed and boring. I thought Andrew Bird and his group were very talented. Caetano Veloso, whom I came to see, disapponted me because I expected his more traditional music for which he is famous. It was not a good evening music-wise.

The first warm up act was the worst performance I have ever seen. The artist was terrible, silly, and ridiculous. The second one was just fair. Then Caetano's set was not the greatest. He seems to have become a bitter old man. He's lost his charm, although his lead guitarist was excellent. And I didn't appreciate that the crowd started streaming out during the middle of his set because they were so worried about the terrible parking situation at the bowl. It's extremely rude, and I think he felt that. He didn't even do one encore. It seems that the main goal of the public for going to a show at the bowl is to have a picnic, not to see good music. I also didn't appreciate the fact that they let glass bottles into the bowl because there were several that broke. That makes it dangerous and dirty. Oh, and I bought a popcorn at the concession stand that was 1/2 kernels and crumbs.

The 1st opening band was really bad and boring. Cateano Veloso didn't play much of the old songs and his new songs are boring

The entire bowl was too much for this line-up. Caetano minus Banhart or Bird would've resulted in a similar review. Banhart appeared to play for a coffee shop.

This is easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to at the bowl. The combination of Devendra Banhart, Andrew Bird, and Caetano Veloso was fantastic - they were all electrifying. The Bowl was packed, the crowd was dancing and lively. Great night!

Caetano did not play any of his most famous songs. His choice of songs was not good. We walked out 3/4's into the concert. Very sad.

Caetano was lackluster and forgettable. His stage setup was bland. Disappointing song choices, no one wants to hear new music, just stick to the classics! Everyone around me was complaining, and at least 1/3 of the venue cleared out during his set. The song about menstruation and orgasms was disturbing. Andrew Bird and Devendra Banhart were fantastic on the other hand! Truly talented musicians.

Caetano is a Brazilian legend. As Brazilian and researcher of Tropicalia, it was a great pleasure to watch him on stage being, as Silviano Santiago said in the 70s, the super astro. The Paramount theater is also amazing, beautiful. It's worthwhile even to take a look in the theater's architecture. I just can't help to watch another Caetano's concert and/or to come back to Broadway, Oakland in the portentous Paramount theater.

Caetano has the same exact voice than we he was in his twenties, and the same magnetism. I loved seeing him again! (I saw him live in Buenos Aires many years ago). Don't give five starts because of the sound... a bit loud, which it wasn't really necessary. Specially the guitar player, we had to cover our ears every time he played (I saw other people doing the same). The base was too loud also. I liked everything else, the sets, the new songs and the new versions of the old ones as well.

I wish I would have never gone to this show, because I saw Caetano as a idol before the show. The show completely changed the way I look at Caetano now. I want to force myself to forget this horrible event, so when I listen to his music, I could still enjoy it!
