Great rink setup and location on the field, great entertainment, great game! Ace Freeley, the Goo Goo Dolls, Max Weinberg were all excellent. The taxi cabs on the field were a great touch to give the game a feel of taking place in the city. The "cop" dancing to YMCA among the cabs might have been the highlight of the show. The pregame fan zone could have used improvement.

We arrived around 11:30 to enjoy the pregame party located outside Citi Field. There were games and giveaways... Sponsored by Nickelodeon which was fun! We were able to enter quickly, the lines for security and to get in moved quickly. Our seats were phenomenal!!!! The rink was right there!!! We brought binoculars on recommendation and didn t even need them... I didn t even need my GLASSES like I normally do at MSG! Amazing! The only downside to this event was the merchandise ran out quickly... Like insanely quick. So we couldn t buy hats that we wanted. They should have had one item per ticket sold. It was freezing but that s typical because it is January 1st, and Citi Field is a wind tunnel (I was at the Mets season opener last year and it was ridiculously cold because of the wind!)... What an experience! I highly recommend going to one at least once in your life... It s cold but worth it for the experience!

For all the hype that was the Winter Classic, the actual event really wasn't that great. I had great seats and a good time, but I feel like no effort was put in to getting excitement out of the crowd. The players were not introduced individually. There was no loud music to pump up the fans. It sems like it was treated as a normal hockey game. Something should have been done that was more exciting.

The Winter Classic is a must see event for every serious hockey fan. Even though the game means nothing more than a regular season game for both teams, the spectacle of outdoor hockey is really something to behold. Even with sketchy weather conditions the game was enjoyable and the experience is one I will remember for a long time to come. Well done NHL!

The 'Night" experience was amazing, Very well put together event. Not a detail left unattended. Fan pretty respectful overall no major caos (which you often have at theses types of events). Pittsburgh put o nquite a show and had so much fun went home and watched the recorded version.

Pittsburgh and the NHL did an amazing job of putting together an awesome event. Communicating the change in start time to later was handled well. I received emails and texts, and the local media was all over the change. Security at the event itself was present yet not overwhelming, and they did their job when needed (I witnessed this firsthand in my section). Exiting the event was also smooth, with exiting the parking area appearing to be well planned (we were out of our parking lot and on the "road" in a matter of minutes). The event, while a bit soggy, was awesome. I hope these continue. I'd love to see some more geographic rivalries in upcoming outdoor events, such as the Pens vs Philly at Beaver Stadium!

The event itself was amazing...with great fans and a great atmosphere. However the city of Pittsburgh was not ready for this event. Once the event was moved from 1pm to 8 pm the city did not respond. There were many restaurants and stores closed. It was very difficult to find a place to eat before the game. Even after the game it was difficult to find places which were open. The NHL has to look at the city of the event in the future years to make sure that the city is able to handle the additional people and will be open. Also, getting out of the stadium was a disaster. There were only 3 ramps which were so crowded, it was very difficult to move.

Fabulous event on the ice, although the rest of it was not without flaws. However, it seemed most of those were venue or fan-related, and nothing the NHL could control. Seriously, people, it's not just the players who are supposed to be gracious, win or lose. And Heinz Field is a nonsmoking venue, but you wouldn't have known it Saturday. On top of the cigarette level of rudeness: Victory cigars?!? Really necessary? Not unless your name is Red Auerbach. It also would have been better if the sound system had functioned throughout the pregame actiivities, national anthems, first period and half of the first intermission. This was my second Classic, and amenities, in general, have improved since the Buffalo game. For all the weather issues, there were no long breaks in play due to conditions, and whoever set up the rink versus the seats did an amazing job. Other than one whiny chick in my section, no one I've talked to had any issues with visability in any section of Heinz Field.

The 2011 Winter Classic was nothing compared to the 2008 classic in Buffalo. The PA announcing, hosting, giveaways and entertainment (aside from Clarks, Hinder, and Styx) were horrible. Also, why would anyone think it was a good idea to incorporate so much related to the Steelers. The fans were there to see hockey, no one cares about Jerome Bettis or Franco Harris aside from the Steelers season ticket holders who shouldn't have been there anyway. They didn't even have the courtesy to represent the Penguins, they egotistically wore their Steelers jackets. Lastly, the game should have been postponed until Sunday. How can the NHL expect to have a good game played in weather conditions so horrible. It wasn't enjoyable for the fans or the players I'm sure. Luckily none of the players were hurt due to the weather.

The Winter Classic in Pittsburgh was an awesome event. The change in the start time until 8 pm was great! The festivities prior to game time made it feel like a Super Bowl type of event! The only thing we could have asked for were a few snow flurries and a Pens win! NHL needs to make the start time 8 pm from now on. Under the lights made it that much greater!

It was a great event despite the cold, the lousy site lines for game and the fact it was more a Rangers home game then Buffalo Sabres. No home game do you ever hear visiting team goal song. Ticket buyers should have been told certain seats would not see the puck at all.

Citifield is a real nice venue. My son broke his ankle right before Christmas and we had gotten him tix to this as he is a big Ranger fan. So I took him to the game - the attendants could not have been nicer. A gentleman inside the gate directed us to a ticket office where we traded our tix in for handicap assisted seating. The attendant in our section also could not have been nicer (section 123) helping us in and out of our seats. The concession situation was terrible tho - I missed the entire 2nd period online for concessions to get my son and I hot chocolate. I got the last 2 cups and the 100 people behind me (who had also been online for about an hour) were told no more hot chocolate. Meanwhile there were a million vendors selling beer which no one wanted because it was too freezing cold!!!! Definitely poor planning in terms of concessions. And luckily I'm not a huge hockey fan but felt really bad for all the big hockey fans who missed half the game waiting in line for concessions! Very disappointing.

If the rangers played again at citifield. Our family would go. Getting out of the parking lot was crazy over an hour to get out. For the 40 dollars they charge for parking they need to hire employees or have the police officers direct traffic instead of standing there talking.

Good game, well organized. Two issues (1) Start of game delayed ~0 minutes due to sun glare. Seems many of these outdoor hockey games have this issue. They should be able to figure this out before hand and adjust the official starting time accordingly. (2) The should install. radiant space heaters around the stadium.

The Winter Classic this year was absolutely amazing. Incredibly cold, but so much fun. Couple of things I would fix, selling beers in 24 oz cans in 9 degree weather meant that my beer literally froze before I could finish it. Also, baseball parks are not designed for quarter/period based games so it was impossible to get around during the intermissions and especially use the bathroom. It also didn't help that people were staying in them to keep warm. If you could set up warming stations that might help with the bathrooms. All in all though, really fun and was glad I went.

The game itself was good, but the hospitality was horrible! Tried to buy nachos and cheese, cheese was frozen, tried serving with no cheese, tried to buy hot chocolate, sold out, bought a hot dog and condiments were froze. Granted it was cold out but they knew it was going to be cold so be PREPARED! All this was after the 1st period also! Also waited in line to buy clothing for over an hour. Then when leaving we could only go out one gate. Why wasn't the other gates open. Makes me mad that I traveled all the way from Buffalo to watch this game as a season ticket holder and had to deal with this, especially this was suppose to be a HOME GAME!

On a day that was single digit wind chills how do you run out of hot coffee in the first period? The gates were so limited and congested to get in and getting out they did not fully open the gates causing serious bottleneck issues. Portable heaters, hand warmers for sale, anytgingto accomodate fans on an extra chilly day would've been nice. There was zero consideration for the weather when it was clearly forecasted. Not worth it at all for the price. Sight lines were very bad and the stadium was not properly studied for it to be a suitable venue.

In spite of being frozen temperatures, the Winter Classic is an amazing event regardless of the outcome. It is unfortunate that Ticketmaster missed the mark for some including myself by offering VIP advance tickets and then sending over the plain typical ticket stub that you would get for any other event while others who also bought tickets through them after the presale, were able to at least have a souvenir ticket that commemorates the event.

It was a great experience. Once in a lifetime. My only gripes were that it was expensive for a hockey game and that it was freezing cold. To be honest for how expensive our seats were we should have gotten free hand warmers, a program, something! And I was disappointed that I didn t get a commemorative ticket. That is the one reason I think I may stop buying through Ticketmaster. For events that offer commemorative tickets and are over $100(these were 250 each), I would like to be given the option. Especially during presales! This is an event you would want that keepsake!

We had a great time tail gaiting before the game. It is a great way to meet other Ranger fans and share stories and just plain having a good time before the game. Our seats were in section 528, row 15 and the view of the game was awesome (better then the seats down low and up close!). By setting up the rink in the dead of Winter they should play a couple of games instead. They would definitely sell out! And ESPN took our picture and loaded it on their website

What a great experience, our third Winter Classic. The viewing lines were surprisingly better in a football stadium. The snow continued through the entire game but the players didn't seem to mind. The crowd was jovial even after Detroit lost the shootout. It was strange to park free on the street for an event with over 100,000 people. The stadium itself was a bit of a dive with no where near enough washrooms.

The game itself was unforgettable! Seats in the 300 club level were worth the expensive price. Club level - perfect distance away to see all the action. I play hockey so I prefer watching the play develop from up top at a distance than be super up close. Loved being able to warm up inside during intermission. Zero wait for the ladies bathroom, which was 100x cleaner than the bathrooms in the regular seating area. The staff at concessions delivered great service too. The atmosphere and overall execution of the Winter Classic was top notch! Hats off to the NHL and Michigan Stadium staff! However - Merchandise stands closed down way too early - I wasn't able to buy a thing since I decided to stay and watch the men's Olympic team announcement.. Which was only another 15 minutes after the game conclusion. I went to buy online, but all the merchandise I wanted was sold out. So disappointed. The biggest FAIL, which I could easily have given the event an overall 3 stars for (the game was too good, which made up for this) - The traffic on M-14 westbound heading into the game was TERRIBLE. And this congestion had little to do with the weather - which was snowy, but road conditions were not terrible (although the trip back home was rough). More police presence to direct traffic was DESPERATELY needed. Let me preface this with the fact that I am not unfamiliar with The Big House/game day traffic. I was an undergrad at Michigan from 2002-2007 and am well versed in the influx of cars on game day. Yet, it took me 3 hours to get from downtown Detroit to Ann Arbor... And that's not including the time to find parking and get to our seats. Specifically, it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to go from just before the M-14/US-23 junction to the Main St exit off M-14! That's only a few miles!! We ended up missing part of the first period even though we left Detroit at 10 am! So much for grabbing food and drink at a local place prior to the game. Considering the weather and projections of a world record crowd, I am deeply disappointed in Ann Arbor police and the Michigan state troopers for not directing traffic/opening up additonal lanes, or do whatever was needed to stop the bottle-necking that occurred at the M-14 junction. Major failure and it almost ruined the game.

I would have given this event five stars if it had not been for the sound system. The announcements, entertainment could not be heard in my section. I have been to Heinz Field many times before so I know that it had nothing to do with the section and everything to do with the sound system. This part of the event was very disappointing to me. The park did absolutely nothing to combat the intense sub zero temperature, and did not have coffee available. However they did have $10.50 hot chocolate! I spent over $500 for nose bleed seats and froze my ass off. I feel the park completely cashed in and did not have customers well being in mind. The overall experience was very good. I thought the game was a great time and very entertaining. My seats had an advertisement board in front of them so I could not see the fans on the other side of the stadium, the sky, or any video boards or ribbons. The tv screen placed on the back of the advertisement was broken so I had no way of knowing how much time was left in a period nor could i see any replays. The lines for concessions and bathrooms were a bit long and took away from the game. I was EXTREMELY disappointed that I was issued a standard ticket rather than the special edition ticket made specific for this game. I received minimal help from all parties included in trying to obtain the proper ticket. The pregame activities, the quality hockey, and the family time salvaged this event for three stars.

Despite the cold weather the Winter Classic was an awesome event. It's as good as it gets. The NHL did a masterful job of setting up the field and making it easy for people to get into the stadium and feel comfortable. Great job!

Obviously, as a hockey fan, going to the Winter Classic was an unforgettable experience, one I would do again. I would only recommend this event to a hardcore fan, because overall the cold was miserable. My critique lies mostly with the venue, and how ill prepared they were to service that amount of people in absolutely frigid temperatures. The hot beverages (only coffee and hot chocolate) ran out by the end of the first period. Many of the bathrooms (the only heated spaces besides the merch stores) were "out of service" and should have been opened as a space to warm up even if the toilets themselves weren't working. Also, it was so cold people's beer cans were exploding, but no alternatives were available. The merch stores themselves only had a very limited amount of blankets that sold out extremely quickly and weren't selling hand warmers or any other warming product. On the positive end, Citi Field is well laid out for an event like this. Even the very upper level seats had clear views of the ice, so that was nice!

Regardless that the temperature was very low, near ten degrees, and the wind is blowing hard, the game and the concept is great. We knew prior to the game that sitting in the stands would be brutal. After all, we are aware of the winds off the bay and the openness of Citi Field. We have attended several games at Citi and Shea each year. When we purchased the tickets in the autumn, there was the possibility of a raw day at the venue. Who knows how cold and windy the day would be. The weather conditions were so bad that the game rules had to modified. Instead of playing 20 minutes per period, the third period was changed to, in essence, two 10 minute periods to equalize the conditions to both teams. The same happened in overtime. Anyway, we have wanted to attend the Winter Classic for a couple of years. The Ranger Sabre game was a very good game. Always nice to have the Rangers start the scoring first which they did. Unfortunately, the Sabres tied the game and it became more exciting. It was even more exciting that the Rangers won in overtime. We would purchase tickets for another Winter Classic in the future. Hopefully, the conditions will be dramatically better.

First, attending the Winter Classic is a dream for so many of us, and kudos to the NHL for setting up a rivalry game within acceptable distance for both teams. Lots of Bruins and Habs fans made the game, and the energy was very much there at the beginning of the game. Venue was a disaster. They played very non-hockey-crowd music before game and during the intermissions, which might be nice for the performers, but killed any buzz. Gillette isn't known for being a loud stadium in the best of conditions, so once the Habs scored, you couldn't tell anyone was cheering except in your own section throughout the game. Also, do they have the 100+ person waiting lines for the bathrooms the ENTIRE game for football? seems like a poor design... Get back to the idea: back to outdoor hockey beginnings!! Crowd involvement and the fun of the outdoors should be central! Go if you get a chance and scream your head off!

My wife and I were very excited for this, unfortunately besides the Bruins awful play, NBC decided to really muck it up with their self promotion and tone-deaf decisions. First was the decision to NOT have Rene Rancourt sing the national anthem. This was clearly done to promote the winner of the Voice. The game was supposed to be a home game for the Bruins, and not having Rene sing the anthem was a slap in the face to all the Bruins fans who attended. Simple Plan - They are a Canadian band, and the style of music they play is not conducive to hockey. It did nothing to get the crowd going, they were boo'd several times. Apparently NBC inquired about the DropKick Murphys (hometown band), but NBC wanted them to do a duet with FUN. This was also a poor decision, they should have just let the DropKick Murphys play. Again, this was a HOME GAME for the Bruins, it should have been tailored for that. Replays- during the game, there were no replays shown on the big board. Even during the reviewed goal the Bruins had, there was no replay. There was no replay on penalties, no replays on hits. The only replays I can recall were towards the end of the game and were mainly of Canadiens players (which makes some sense considering they were making the plays) but they were only of saves or shots. Trivia - The big screens did have several trivia questions, most of them were related to NBC or the Canadiens. I mean seriously, who thinks it's a good idea to have a trivia question of "which Canadiens player has the most points against the Bruins during their career"... again, it was a BRUINS HOME GAME, the majority should have been Bruins related. Overall we had a great day, but that was mainly just from the experience of tailgating and being in Gillette Stadium watching hockey.

The entire event was set up to cater to fans sitting on the west side of the stadium while the other 50%+ of the fans could not see any of the entertainment (even the flyover). Everything catered to the tv cameras with absolutely no regard to those who paid good money to be there. The game sounds were miles in for the legends game on Thursday (which was a great idea), but then they didn't bother to do it for the main game!! We couldn't hear the whistles and when a goal was disallowed because of a whistle we couldn't hear,?they never even bothered to announce to the fans in attendance why it was disallowed! Also, the NHL ran out of many sizes and players' game jerseys and Tshirts before the game even started (they couldn't order enough in ad advance?). The flyover was actually a prop plane!!!! I was very disappointed.

being at the event was awesome. as far as the game itself it was disappointing. one team and 2 goalies showed up. the bruins should be embarrassed by the way they played and as far as the long standing rivalry that was mentioned in the weeks leading up to the game it was if the panthers played the coyotes. I would recommend attending a winter classic if able as the experience was great too bad the hockey game sucked.

Football stadiums are the obvious choice for a Winter Classic, Fenway had bad sight lines. Gillette was great. The fly over was great by RI Air National Guard! Thanks for hosting Bob Kraft!

I have to say I enjoyed the Alumni game the night before just as much as the Winter Classic event on New Year's Day. I was pleased overall with the experience and if I had to compare between this event and the one at Fenway Park, this one was WAY BETTER. I reccomend in the future that the Boston Bruins find a way to return the Winter Classic back to Gillette Stadium....Only next time, against the NEW YORK RANGERS OR CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS.

Without a doubt one of the best hockey experiences that I have ever been to. The Winter Classic is special for the NHL, showcasing everything that hockey is and should be. Having this year's Winter Classic be a clash between Montreal and Boston, the oldest rivalry in the sport, made it that much more enjoyable. Gillette Stadium was sold out, and the pageantry that would be expected for the game was fully on display. Gorgeous grounds for a historic event.

The visibility of the ice rink was poor from everywhere in the stadium. Unfortunately the rink is too far in the middle with nothing happening around the empty, dead area of the field. One would have expected a bit more entertainment in this empty area, such as Ice Girls, Cheerleaders, Mascots, etc. Nothing.

Overall the event was a good time, expensive but still good. I had decent seats but regardless of where you sat it was a too far away to see and stay focused on the game. I did expect that so that aspect was not a disappointment.

The Alumni game was great, the atmosphere was great, the weather was great, the fans were great but the Boston Bruins were an embarrassment. We are season ticket holders and we were so very disappointed in out team. They did not even try to make a game of it. They were an embarrassment and if i could boycott a game and not show up like they did i would. Very disapointed in the level of competition in them. On the other hand i am sure that the Canadians are not happy as well. Sure they won but it was like they played a farm team

The NHL Winter Classic at Nationals Park in Washington DC was hands down one of the top 5 sporting events I've ever been to. They truly made it a fun celebration for the city. There's something very neat about outdoor hockey in general, but the Winter Classic exceeded my expectations.

The only issue was the lack of preparedness from the stadium vendors and food. Many items were not stocked properly during the WC.

Only complaint was too many people were herded down the main entrance and this was where all the pre-game events were going on. Why too many people and could not move!

What an awesome event, from the metro ride with other hockey fans to the game, the party zone village next to the stadium, the pregame festivities, and the game itself, you could really feel the electricity in the air, it was like being at the Superbowl of Hockey, everyone should try to see a winter classic in person, TV is nice but nothing compares to being there in person.
