The Brahms concerto was completely stunning. We were in the presence of a consumate master of the violin AND a stunning interpreter of the music of Brahms. Sitkovetsky played as if from 'within' the orchestra, he knew every note in EVERY part. It was overwhelming. How lucky are we to have this remarkable musician participating in our community. Thank you, Dmitri, and the GSO for a performance to remember. the night owl

The symphony performed like one would expect a fine first-class international orchestra and each of the three young soloists was amazing. In particular, the violinist, Stefani Collins, performed superbly. Her selections were totally virtuosic and she demonstrated the ability to perform like a seasoned virtuoso!! My congratulations to all!

Although I had heard such good things about this group, I was still unprepared for how much I would enjoy this concert. Although the vast majority of the audience was adults, I took two third grader(who both play the violin) and they were absolutely blown away by the concert. It is so easy to get drawn into the excitement on stage and the joy with which these musicians play is infectious. Clearly this group's music transcends generations and I am incredibly grateful that I could expose these young girls to a concert which will inspire their muscial efforts as these young girls certainly represent the upcoming generation of music lovers. This was one of the best concerts I have attended. I hope to see them re-booked year after year. Bravo to the guys in "Time for Three"!

It's was memorizing listening to a group so unique in their musical style- using violins and a bass to present classical, jazz, rock, hip hop, and blue grass. Very friendly with the audience and interactive.

The performance (especially from the singers) seemed to lack a certain Latino passion that I would expect from a salsa performance.

Great show! John Denver's music is marvelous for the soul. Jim Curry did thesongs justice and the orchestra back-up added greatly to the pleasure of John's poetry. Thanks for this great concert!

the lyrics of John Denver's songs are poems. I forgot how beautiful they are. Jim Curry and company have the sound down perfectly. Greensboro Symphony Pops was excellent. The auditorium at Westover was ideal: sound and video was wonderful.

The Jim Curry concert with the Carolina Pops was excellent. I was impressed with the quality of the orchestra and the way they accompanied Mr. Curry and his group with litte practice. Having seen John Denver in concert in the 1990's, I was prepared to be disappointed. I came away very satisfied. The music was right on, and Mr. Curry's voice was strong John Denver. I closed my eyes, and it took me back to my earlier concert. My only hang up was that Mr. Curry tried a little too hard to recreate John Denver in his dress and mannerisms. The music was good enough to stand on its own.

We thoroughly enjoyed Jim Curry and company. I was totally impressed with Westover Church. Never been to that church and thought from the parking to the filming of the orchestra was well done. We got to watch on the big screens the intrumentalist. Normally we can only see the front row. I would have liked to purchase Jim's CD but we exited to the right rear of the auditorium and there were no tables set up to purchase in that area or as we exited through the lobby. We will watch for events at Westover Church and buy tickets.

What a great tribute to the legendary John Denver. Jim Curry, backed by the Carolina Pops Orchestra was just outstanding. Jim not only brought his music and singing tribute of John Denver, he brought many wonderful insights into John Denver that not many people knew. And to have three of John Denver's original band members along was added delight. Jim's singing of "Annie Song" was just spectacular. Bruce Keseling's direction of the Carolina Pops Symphony was great. From " Rocky Mountain" High to "I'm Just a Country Boy" was great. I highly recommend Jim Curry. If he could only sing a bit more. The audience wanted more.

Saturday night, Emmanual Ax played Beethoven's 4th Concerto for Piano and Orchestra wonderfully. The orchestra gamboled about with him as he and the conductor clearly had a good time playing a piece, as the concert notes indicated, that Beethoven wrote at the height of his creativity. However, it appeared that the orchestra was better rehearsed on the piece with Ax than the other two pieces that were on the play bill. Where was the horn and woodwind sections in the Scottish symphony? They had no life; no brightness. The strings played beautifully but may have overwhelmed the smaller horn and woodwind sections.

The New Year's Eve pops concert of the GSO was excellent in all respects. The vocal soloist, Diane Penning, had a beautiful classically trained voice bust careful to temper her use of range, volume, and technique to songs in the Broadway and film musical traditions. The instrumental soloists, Rich Ridenhour (piano) and his son Brandon Ridenhour (trumpets) were top notch. Rich is a virtuoso, Juilliard trained, pianist who demonstrated his "chops" on Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. He quickly built a rapport with the audience with his relaxed and unassuming manner. Brandon is a phenomenal trumpeter and a former member of the Canadian Brass. His technique and expression on three instruments was most impressive. Finally, the GSO performed with aplomb and precision. As a former member, I was gratified to hear the orchestra playing so well under the direction of Nate Beversluis, its very capable conductor

The Symphony and performers were excellent. I was hoping for some older Disney music as I'm not as familiar with the newer movies (ie., Mulan, Princss and the Frog) but I understand that the younger crowd would expect that. I wanted to bring my grandchildren yet the performance was past their bedtime but hopefully next year. Great show!

Talked to lots of people who would've wanted to hear more OLD Beatles, early 60's I want to Hold your Hand, She loves You, etc. With age group in attendance lots of white hairs, older Beatles would've been better I actually see what this is called my hubby bought tickets at last minute if I had seen mystery tour I would've told him to save his $80.00 We had season tickets in past and saw some impersonators at War Memorial and they were great, played all old old Beatles from early sixties, don't think they were these same guys but would be curious to know.

Outstanding venue; the acoustics were incredible. The music was fun, lively, well played and exceedingly well sung. We are new to the area and had no idea what the church setting was like. We were not expecting this type auditorium and would definitely return. The only piece lacking was either a program or more comment from the conductor on the music: I couldn't identify which musical for each song and knowing that would have enhanced my experience. Overall: topnotch.

The musical selections were great, especially Rhapsody in Blue. The orchestra brought color to the evening, and the guest piano soloist's explanations and anecdotes about the music added to the evening. It should be noted, however, that the over-amplification of the piano affected the overall quality and enjoyment of the piano solos.

Even though Richard Glazier is a fine pianist, I thought the show focused on him way too much. I wanted to hear a lot more singing from Michael and Natalie. I believe that Natalie sang 1 song prior to intermission, and 3 in the second half. Michael sang a total of 6/7 songs. To me, Natalie and Michael were not treated fairly, and the audience was left with a large void. In years past, the soloists were featured as they sang many songs, but this wasn't the case Saturday evening. With intermission, the show went from 8pm to 10:25pm which is too long. Think the show should be no more than 2 hours. Overall, I would not want to sit thru this particular show again. If there was much more singing, I would love to be there.

For my husband's birthday, as a surprise, I purchased tickets to see the Doo Wop Project! It was an evening of "pure" entertainment that would put a "happy" face on anyone who attended. The group of singers were talented, charismatic and pure delight to watch. From outstanding harmony to great choreography, their repertoire of songs took us down memory lane into the popular music of today. Each of the performers had their own story to tell and a unique delivery of the songs they sang. I cannot emphasize enough how much we enjoyed the concert, especially my husband. He said it was one of the best birthday presents he ever received! Hopefully, the Doo Wop Project will return to Greensboro. Also, I would be remiss in not mentioning the Greensboro Symphony who gave an outstanding performance and enhanced the music presented throughout the evening!

The Doo Wop Project performance in Greensboro was EXCELLENT! The talent of these young men is phenomenal! The venue is lovely and well kept. There isn't a bad seat in the house and acoustics are great. The orchestra was on point too! There couldn't be a better way to introduce our daughter to this genre of music. She loved it and has a new playlist of doo wop classics and the DooWop Projects album as well. We are so glad that the Pops series included this act. Songs included were: The Angels Listened In, Tracks of My Tears, I Only Have Eyes for You and more. They also doo wop-ified several current songs from Maroon 5, Adele, Sam Smith and Jason Mraz. A classic take on some great songs. I didn't think that I would like this part of the show but I was WRONG! DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!

Dave Bennett and his band put on an unusual and delightful performance, and were beautifully supported by the GSO Symphony; I would certainly go see them again - somewhere else. Sadly, Westover Church was not a good setting. Our seats were excellent, and clearly Westover has invested in a state of the art sound system. Unfortunately that system could not make up for a hall that has fundamentally poor, unfocused and mushy acoustics (at least for this kind of music). We were able to move around and try seats in three different sections & levels, none of which offered any better sound. We will not attend another musical performance at this venue in the future.

A great performance by the husband and wife team of Broadway singers. One can certainly understand why he was the Phantom and she was Christine in "Phantom Of The Opera".. They were brilliant vocalists. I enjoyed their diversity of song selections, meaning several of their songs from popular Broadway musicals were not the well-known songs, but were other less heard songs. There final song was a favorite of mine, "Love Changes Everything". The Greensboro Symphony was also brilliant. Greensboro folks are extremely lucky to have such wonderful musicians and directors in our community. The overall program was superb, and I can't wait til next year.

We decided rather too late, to go to the Symphony Pops New Years Eve concert, so did not get the best tickets ( our fault!). Our seats were somewhere at the back, but we still had an excellent view. Being new to Greensboro, this was our first time hearing the GSO symphony and it was well worth it. It was also a treat to have broadway artists Sandra Joseph and Ron Bohmer, both stars of Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Spectacular voices with an excellent symphony orchestra, well led by assistant conductor Nate Bersluis. The evening was filled with broadway show favorites. Very nostalgic and entertaining! I saw the Texas Tenors 2 years ago at Wendover. At that performance it was only the Texas Tenors, I also did not realize this was a Christmas program....not advertised that way. Very disappointing. The paintings featured in the first piece added a needed visual dimension. I had never heard this particular piece, and I must say its not my favorite Tschaikowsy piece. Sleeping beauty was ethereal, breathtaking in its depth and well performed. The 1812 Overture was flawless. My only complaint was the lack of respect shown to the performers by some members audience and ushers. There is no excuse for banging doors in the middle of a performance. If one has arrived late, and must be seated between movements, one should move quickly and quietly to a seat, not parade down the aisle waving to one's friends. Ushers should enforce this, and control the closing doors if the music has started.

I was expecting more oscar winning themes rather than musical scores. The guest artist Rich and Brandon Ridenour were absolutely wonderfulThey were Marvelous!!.I was not expecting to here American in Paris , Rhapsody in Blue or Sumertime by Gershwin but they are my favorites so that was a pleasant surprise.I hope that the symphony would consider doing a tribute to Gershwin. I must be honest in saying that I did not care for the guest singer.I or none of the people that I was with cared for her style .I have heard the selections that she sung done much better. Over all it was a good concert a lot of fun.I love the Westover Church venue and hope to attend more symphonies there.Except for the guest singer I would have rated 5 stars. All things considered 4 stars.

most fabulous thing I have ever witnessed or heard had to be there to believe the magnitude of the greatness of the talent

This was very disappointing. An exceptional clarinet player was coming, and the Bruckner Symphony was the other draw. Not only did the clarinettist drop out (no reason given to patrons), but the program bore no relation to the original, and the Bruckner disappeared.

Show was better than expected. What a great experience to hear Jim Curry sing these songs with the Greensboro Symphony backing. All on John Denver's 70th birthday! Jim Curry is amazing. I only wish the show was longer. 2 hours was worth the money but not long enough to do the music justice. The great camera/screen work really helped make seating in the back OK.

Jim Curry sounds so much like John Denver, it almost seems like I have gone 30 years back in time and am at a John Denver concert. This was the second Jim Curry/Greensboro Symphony concert I have attended. I hope there will be another one soon.

Jim Curry is very respectful of the legacy of John Denver's music. He performs beautifully ... nostalgic fun show. It feels like John is in the room!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Jim Curry's performance! The GSO Symphony was perfect in its accompaniment and background, the flautist and bass player PLUS Jim's wife were simply great. The young man who performed the duet with Jim on "Perhaps Love" was truly spectacular, and to think he is a local talent, too! Jim's renditions of John's songs brought tears to both our eyes and we hated to have the performance end. Kudos to all who brought this to Greensboro! Glad there was an excellent turnout, too.

Fantastic! During most songs you could close your eyes and feel John Denver was back live on stage. Lee Holdridge as conductor, with his experience actually working and arranging for John Denver, added tremendously to the overall experience. This show was much improved over Jim Curry s first appearance here a few years ago!

I picked this program because the last time I went to the symphony, I ended up wishing it would be over some during the last half. I knew that with the ballet component and the choice of music that there would be enough going on that I would be able to enjoy the whole thing. LOVED IT- from start to finish!

My husband and I loved the orchestra! It was very well done. The ballet was okay but has a lot of room for improvement. Overall it was a lovely evening out. Would recommend.

Visiting from out of town, we decided to check out the local symphony. The venue was old but serviceable (they are building a new one), the snack bar was minimal, but the performance was first rate. The Russian conductor was excellent, as was his orchestra. The Greensboro ballet troupe provided several dancers to enhance the evening's music and they performed credibly. The choice of music proved to be top rate and there were no 'nodding heads' at this performance! We were thoroughly pleased with our evening.

You just never know when life will present to you just the right alignment of circumstances to produce a revelation of beauty or truth or both, such that you not only are thrilled at what's unfolding but you also are keenly aware that you're the witness of some kind of miracle. This was the case on Saturday evening, May 11, in Greensboro NC, quite a few hours from where I & my friends live. In short, let me just highlight the facts: two violin concerti in one evening, the first one feature two violins (Bach's incomparable "double concerto" in D minor, which I never before got to hear live); two first-class players, one of whom is the symphony's own gifted conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky, the other his own nephew, the touring violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky; first-class orchestral players across the boards; better-than-average acoustics in the "Dana Auditorium" of Guilford College (go there!); the tonally well-chosen programming & dynamic performance of a composite symphony crafted out of 4 separate symphonies of Beethoven (the three [French] horn players in the trio of the third movement, the scherzo from the "Eroica," were as good as it gets); a thunderstorm that roared outdoors, but only faintly audible during the music, having mostly spent itself by the time we all exited into a cool night with only light rain; an audience that knew something extraordinary was up; etc.!
